This book is a tutorial introduction to using Python in common application domains and task. It teaches how to apply Python for system administration, GUIs, and the Web, and explores its roles in networking, databases, frontend scripting layers, text processing, and more.
Who is this book for?
If you can answer “yes” to all of these:
2- Do you wish you had the know-how to program Python, add it your list of tools, and make it do new things?
3- Do you prefer actually doing things and applying the stuff you learn over listing to someone in a lecture rattle on for hours on end?

4- Real World Instrumentation with Python

Introduction
WordPress is the most popular content management system (CMS) on the web. Users of the WordPress platform can easily publish their content on the Internet because of its intuitive user interface. A large segment of the WordPress user community wants to delve a bit dipper into platform so they can not only publish content, but also make their web sites look fantastic through the customization, design, and manipulation of their WordPress themes. In fact, as a WordPress designer and consultant, two of the most frequent questions I hear from my clients are “How can I design my own theme for WordPress?” and “How can I design and build my entire web site with WordPress?”

This book answers those questions and unlocks the mysteries of designing Web sites with the WordPress content management system. If you have ever tried to tweak an existing WordPress theme file, or even design your own WordPress theme from scratch, and have found it to be intimidating or too difficult to understand, this book breaks it down for you in a friendly and easy-to-understand manner.

Who this book is for?
This is where you come in. You are probably a web developer or administrator with some experience using common technologies like HTML. CSS, or JavaScript, and who probably use an existing content management system like WordPress, Drupal, or Joomla!. You’re intrigued by the possibilities of adapting or building a website for a mobile audience, and want to figure out how you might get started.
This book assumes you are relatively technically literate, although you don’t need to be an experienced developer to benefit from the advice or, hopefully, to understand the examples. In fact, one of the huge benefits of having used a content management system in the first place is that you may be quite happily running and maintaining a website without ever having had to write software yourself! If that’s you, then this book should still be appropriate. We talk extensively about how to use off-the-shelf plug-ins and modules to mobilize your websites, and these days, you can get a very long way without having to write a single line of code.
All I ask is that you aren’t daunted by the prospect of the mobile web. Mobile devices (and simultaneously, HTML5 and its related technologies) are changing the way we think about the web as whole and some might feel threatened that their existing tools, infrastructure and skill sets are at risk of becoming obsolete. Not at all! You might be pleasantly surprised at how familiar most of the technology we discuss is – I almost want you to be underwhelmed with how easy it is to establish an online mobile presence! And much of what I want to do i this book is to provoke a change in mindset, rather than learn an entirely new set of tools. The mobile web is different enough from today’s desktop web to require us to revisit a log of our assumptions about how we build sites, and at the bray least I hope you are receptive to the idea of thinking carefully about what your mobile users might really want from these new sites and experience you will be building.

Who is this book for?
It was the dichotomy between the almost trivial effort required to create a WordPress-based blog and publish a “first post” to the world and the much more detailed, broad understanding required to effect mass customization that led us to write this book. Many books on the market provide guidance to beginning bloggers by walking you through the typical functions of creating, configuring, and caring for your WordPress site. Our goal was to bridge the gap between an expert PHP developer who is comfortable reading the wordPress codex in lieu of manual and casual wordpress users creating a public persona integrated with social networking sites and advertising services, with a tailored look and feel.
In short, we hope to appeal to a range of developers, from the person looking to fine-tune and a WordPress theme to a more advanced developer with a plug-in concept or who is using WordPress in a large enterprise integrated into a content management system. We do this by exploring WordPress from the inside out. Our goal for this book is to describe the basic operation of a function, and then offer guidance and examples that highlight how to take it apart and reassemble that function to fit a number of needs. WordPress users who are not hardened PHP developers may want to skim through the developer-centric section, whereas coders looking for specific patterns to implement new WordPress functionality can start in the middle and work toward the end.

It is obvious that, by now, hundreds of specialists are naming it as the best programming language today; due to its features and characteristics. The last version of this language was launched on April 27, 2011, and those programmers who used it after the update where strongly impacted by its efficiency. What is Groovy? What makes it such a success? Just keep reading…

Groovy is a programming language that is oriented to implemented objects over a standard Java platform. It shares many characteristics with Python, Ruby, Perl and Smalltalk, which makes it very useful for multiple tasks. Groovy uses a Java-like syntax due to the way it manages objects, safety and other functions. In fact, it is possible to access all existent API’s in Java from Groovy. This programming language is designed to be compatible with almost anything related to Java. This is because Java is what people use the most in the internet today. Making it compatible with it was the best decision, as it lets people use it without having to worry about compatibility issues. In fact, even the byte-code generated by Groovy is 100% compatible with Java’s language generator for the Java Virtual Machine. This means it can be used with any Java application at any time, no exceptions. It is almost as it was a product designed directly by Java.
This compatibility works sideways as well. All code written in Java, or at least a 90%, is compatible and usable in Groovy. This is also a great advantage for Java programmers as they can easily adopt Groovy and start using it. It requires almost no learning, as the code’s structure and syntax is almost the same as in Java. In the case of Jython or JRuby, it takes a lot more research and learning if it is about adopting either of them. Not only Groovy is extremely compatible with Java, but it also can be used in a dynamic way as a scripting language.
When did this awesome language appear? Well, it was in January, 2007, that Groovy launched its 1.0 version. It took eleven months of beta versions and edition for Groovy to launch its 1.1 version, in December of the same year. However, they renamed this version due to the amount of editing that was done to the language, and called it 1.5. After years, in December of 2009, Groovy finally launched the update everyone was expecting for, version 1.7. About a year and a half later, Groovy launched its 2.0 version in April 2011.
Users and experts all agree that when Groovy 1.5 was in the market, it already felt superior to a lot of other languages. However, in the moment version 1.7 was launched in 2009, it made Groovy 1.5 look like a toy. Well, according to many comments, this is nothing compared to the improvement found on Groovy 2.0, and it is almost for sure that this is one of the characteristics we like the most about it. Just when we think it is impossible for Groovy to get any better, a new version is introduced to blow our minds. In the other hand, its compatibility with Java makes it very useful, as Java is the #1 language used in internet developing. This majority is now able to use Groovy very easily without having to learn a new syntax, or about new functions and commands. This can be seen as a side version of Java which can be used in a Java platform or work with Java codes. Efficiency + Compatibility + Improvement is what makes Groovy such a success!

Picking which language to use in the development of a site is the first thing to take care about when launching it. Certainly, there are a lot of languages to choose from. However, modern sites are all about user interaction and high-tech animations. The best languages to make this happen are ASP and PHP, or at least these are the two most-used ones. All that have had some experience with one of these two languages can tell that each has its own qualities and flaws.

It is very important to be aware of both the pros and cons of both languages. First of all, let’s know a little about their fabricators. PHP and ASP are both Dynamic building languages. ASP, which stands for Active Server Pages, is from Microsoft. Many people decide to use ASP because they feel some kind of support and more reliability; just due to the fact that it is from Microsoft. It is used with IIS, which runs on certified Microsoft servers.
PHP in the other hand is a Hypertext Processor that is produced by Rasmus Lerdof. Differently from Microsoft’s ASP, it runs in UNIX and Linux servers, and it even offers a NT-server version. As you can see, PHP is really safe as well, as it runs on strong servers. There is a lot to mention when it comes to differences between these languages.
Let’s talk about costs. ASP requires IIS installed in the platform’s server in order to work. However, this is not free. PHP is the winner on its round, as it is free. Remember that it runs on Linux, which is totally free. In addition, ASP also generates higher costs due to the connectivity of the database. It also needs to be purchased in the case of Microsoft’s language. However, testimonials clearly state that this service is a lot more efficient and reliable than PHP’s MySQL, which is free.
Regarding speed, for those who have tried both languages, it is easy to identify that PHP runs significantly faster than ASP. Differently from PHP, ASP uses a COM based architecture. This makes it slower, but somehow safer and more stable.
So this decision is totally up to you. Both languages have their public, as some people look for safer languages with more guarantees. Others look for money-saving, very efficient products that might not be as reliable as others.

Choosing the correct structure for your web applications is the number one task you have to take care of when bringing a dynamical site online. There are two main competitors when it comes to this niche of web development. These are Silverlight from Microsoft and Flash from Macromedia. It is curious that with such a large company as Microsoft, Flash has become more famous than Silverlight. This is because Silverlight took a lot more time to impact the market than Flash. Let’s describe these two structures to have an amplified glimpse of its main advantages.

Both Silverlight and Flash are application structures that allow features like the reproduction of videos, vector graphics, animations and advanced interactivity. They are both very similar in the ways they manage to accomplish this. Other competitors of their kind are JavaFX, Open Laszlo and some components from AJAX. Silverlight’s first publicly-launched version was introduced in September, 2007. Today, the 5.0 version is distributed with no cost; the same as flash. So until now they are both very alike. Silverlight, differently from flash, launched an open code version called Moonlight. This version is mostly designed to work in operative systems based on UNIX.
Macromedia Flash, our second competitor, is one of Adobe’s most popular programs. It is an application that allows exactly the same as Microsoft Silverlight. The biggest advantage that is offered by flash is the following. A lot of the world’s most visited sites are actually designed over a Flash base (e.g. YouTube, Tweeter, etc). This makes Flash’s structure somehow more reliable and some designers feel safer when using Macromedia’s program; just because it is the most commonly used. Macromedia Flash uses a programming language called Action Script. This language is orientated to objects, and it allows the user to amplify all functionalities offered by flash on its design panels. With this language, users are actually able to even build their own interface very easily, even if it is complex. Action Script 3.0 is Flash’s language most famous version. It is said that this upgrade brought strong changes to Flash and its efficiency. There were several strong changes in the language for this 3.0 version; so much that even some syntax commands were changed.
These are both very good programs. However, most people tend to choose Macromedia’s famous, and always well seen, flash structure. There are a fair number of people that chooses Silverlight over Flash for their own convenience reasons. This is why it is important to have a strong vision of what is needed, in order to choose the best program for the specific cause.
