Many of our 1800's traditions were celebrated centuries,Men's Fashion Men wore tailcoats and sometimes cloaks. Overcoats made their appearance at the early part of the century as well. Men's clothing had ornamental detailing if the man was part of a well-to-do family. Full-length trousers became fashionable around 1804, replacing knee-length britches. Children still wore britches, and the switch to trousers was one of the trappings of adulthood. Waistcoats, ties and cloaks completed the man's wardrobe in the early part of the 1800s, with overcoats quickly replacing cloaks during the 1820s. High, military-style boots became popular with the rise of Napoleon.
