1942-2016 RIP Muhammad Ali

2016-06-04T07:42:00.001-07:00

Ali said that he first heard of the Nation of Islam (NOI) when he was fighting in the Golden Gloves tournament in Chicago in 1959, and attended his first NOI meeting in 1961. He continued to attend meetings, although keeping his involvement hidden from the public. In 1962, Clay met Malcolm X, who soon became his spiritual and political mentor, and by the time of the first Liston fight NOI members, including Malcolm X, were visible in his entourage. This led to a story in The Miami Herald just before the fight disclosing that Clay had joined the Nation, which nearly caused the bout to be canceled.

In fact, Clay was initially refused entry to the Nation of Islam (often called the Black Muslims at the time) due to his boxing career.[104] However, after he won the championship from Liston in 1964, the Nation of Islam was more receptive and agreed to recruit him as a member.[104] Shortly afterwards, Elijah Muhammad recorded a statement that Clay would be renamed Muhammad (one who is worthy of praise) Ali (fourth rightly guided caliph).

Only a few journalists (most notably Howard Cosell) accepted the new name at that time. Ali later announced: "Cassius Clay is my slave name."[105] Ali's friendship with Malcolm X ended as Malcolm split with the NOI a couple of weeks after Ali joined, and Ali remained with the Nation.[104][106] Ali later said that turning his back on Malcolm was one of the mistakes he regretted most in his life.

Aligning himself with the Nation of Islam, its leader Elijah Muhammad, and a narrative that labeled the white race as the perpetrator of genocide against African Americans made Ali a target of public condemnation. The NOI was widely viewed by whites and even some African Americans as a black separatist "hate religion" with a propensity toward violence; Ali had few qualms about using his influential voice to speak NOI doctrine.[17] In a press conference articulating his opposition to the Vietnam War, Ali stated, "my enemy is the white people, not the Vietcong".[17] In relation to integration, he said: "We who follow the teachings of Elijah Muhammad don't want to be forced to integrate. Integration is wrong. We don't want to live with the white man; that's all."[108] And in relation to inter-racial marriage: "No intelligent black man or black woman in his or her right black mind wants white boys and white girls coming to their homes to marry their black sons and daughters."[108] Indeed, Ali's religious beliefs at the time included the notion that the white man was "the devil" and that white people were not "righteous".

Rest in Peace Muhammad Ali 1942 -2016

Ali was married four times and had seven daughters and two sons. Ali met his first wife, cocktail waitress Sonji Roi, approximately one month before they married on August 14, 1964.[89] Roi's objections to certain Muslim customs in regard to dress for women contributed to the breakup of their marriage. They divorced on January 10, 1966.

On August 17, 1967, Ali married Belinda Boyd. After the wedding, she, like Ali, converted to Islam. She changed her name to Khalilah Ali, though she was still called Belinda by old friends and family. They had four children: Maryum (born 1968), twins Jamillah and Rasheda (born 1970), and Muhammad Ali, Jr. (born 1972).[90] Maryum has a career as an author and rapper.[91]

In 1975, Ali began an affair with Veronica Porsche, an actress and model. By the summer of 1977, his second marriage was over and he had married Porsche.[citation needed] At the time of their marriage, they had a baby girl, Hana, and Veronica was pregnant with their second child. Their second daughter, Laila Ali, was born in December 1977. By 1986, Ali and Porsche were divorced.[citation needed]

Laila became a boxer in 1999,[92] despite her father's earlier comments against female boxing in 1978: "Women are not made to be hit in the breast, and face like that... the body's not made to be punched right here [patting his chest]. Get hit in the breast... hard... and all that."[93] As of 2014, Laila is undefeated in the super middleweight category, with 24 wins, no losses, and no draws.[94]

On November 19, 1986, Ali married Yolanda ("Lonnie") Williams. They had been friends since 1964 in Louisville. They have one son, Asaad Amin, whom they adopted when Amin was five months old.[90][95][96][97][98]

Ali was a resident of Cherry Hill, New Jersey in the early 1970s.[99] He had two other daughters, Miya and Khaliah, from extramarital relationships.[90][100]

Ali most recently lived in Scottsdale, Arizona, with Lonnie.[101] In January 2007 it was reported that they had put their home in Berrien Springs, Michigan, up for sale and had purchased a home in eastern Jefferson County, Kentucky, for $1,875,000.[102] Lonnie converted to Islam from Catholicism in her late twenties.

Story of a Syrian refugee Muhammad

2015-09-28T11:26:00.001-07:00

I want to begin this refugee series with a post from the summer of 2014. This is Muhammad, who I first met last year in Iraqi Kurdistan. At the time, he had just fled the war in Syria and was working as a clerk at my hotel. When war broke out, he’d been studying English Literature at the University of Damascus, so his English was nearly perfect. He agreed to work as my interpreter and we spent several days interviewing refugees who were fleeing the advance of ISIS. As is evident from the quote below, I left Muhammad with the expectation that he’d soon be travelling to the United Kingdom with fake papers. I am retelling the story because I have just now reconnected with Muhammad. He will be working again as my interpreter for the next ten days. But the story he told me of what happened since we last met is tragic.

-------------------------------------------------------------

"The fighting got very bad. When I left Syria to come here, I only had $50. I was almost out of money when I got here. I met a man on the street, who took me home, and gave me food and a place to stay. But I felt so ashamed to be in his home that I spent 11 hours a day looking for jobs, and only came back to sleep. I finally found a job at a hotel. They worked me 12 hours a day, for 7 days a week. They gave me $400 a month. Now I found a new hotel now that is much better. I work 12 hours per day for $600 a month, and I get one day off. In all my free hours, I work at a school as an English teacher. I work 18 hours per day, every day. And I have not spent any of it. I have not bought even a single T-shirt. I've saved 13,000 Euro, which is how much I need to buy fake papers. There is a man I know who can get me to Europe for 13,000. I'm leaving next week. I'm going once more to Syria to say goodbye to my family, then I'm going to leave all this behind. I'm going to try to forget it all. And I'm going to finish my education."
(August 2014 : Erbil, Iraq)

“Before leaving for Europe, I went back to Syria to see my family once more. I slept in my uncle’s barn the entire time I was there, because every day the police were knocking on my father’s door. Eventually my father told me: ‘If you stay any longer, they will find you and they will kill you.’ So I contacted a smuggler and made my way to Istanbul. I was just about to leave for Europe when I received a call from my sister. She told me that my father had been very badly beaten by police, and unless I sent 5,000 Euro for an operation, he would die. That was my money to get to Europe. But what could I do? I had no choice. Then two weeks later she called with even worse news. My brother had been killed by ISIS while he was working in an oil field. They found our address on his ID card, and they sent his head to our house, with a message: ‘Kurdish people aren’t Muslims.’ My youngest sister found my brother’s head. This was one year ago. She has not spoken a single word since.” (Kos, Greece)

“For two weeks my tears didn’t stop. Nothing made sense. Why did these things happen to my family? We did everything right. Everything. We were very honest with everyone. We treated our neighbors well. We made no big mistakes. I was under so much pressure at this time. My father was in intensive care, and every day my sisters called and told me that ISIS was getting closer to our village. I went completely crazy. I fainted in the street one day and woke up in the hospital. I gave the rest of my money to a smuggler to help my sisters escape to Iraq. Now I only had 1000 Euro left and I was stranded in Turkey. My father recovered from his operation at this time. He called me and asked how I’d paid for his surgery. I told him that the money came from a friend. He asked if I had made it to Europe. For the first time ever, I lied to my father. I didn’t want him to feel guilty about his surgery. I told him that I was in Europe, and I was safe, and there was nothing to worry about.” (Kos, Greece)

“After I told my father that I’d made it to Europe, I wanted nothing more than to turn that lie into the truth. I found a smuggler and told him my story. He acted like he cared very much and wanted to help me. He told me that for 1000 Euros, he could get me to a Greek Island. He said: ‘I’m not like the other smugglers. I fear God. I have children of my own. Nothing bad will happen to you.’ I trusted this man. One night he called me and told me to meet him at a garage. He put me in the back of a van with twenty other people. There were tanks of gasoline back there, and we couldn’t breath. People started to scream and vomit. The smuggler pulled out a gun, pointed it at us, and said: ‘If you don’t shut up, I will kill you.’ He took us to a beach, and while he prepared the boat, his partner kept the gun pointed at us. The boat was made of plastic and was only three meters long. When we got on it, everyone panicked and the boat started to sink. Thirteen of the people were too scared to go. But the smuggler said that if we changed our minds, he would keep the money, so seven of us decided to go ahead. The smuggler told us that he would guide us to the island, but after a few hundred meters, he jumped off the boat and swam to shore. He told us to keep going straight. The waves got higher and higher and water began to come in the boat. It was completely black. We could see no land, no lights, only ocean. Then after thirty minutes the motor stopped. I knew we all would die. I was so scared that my thoughts completely stopped. The women started crying because none of them could swim. I lied and told them that I could swim with three people on my back. It started to rain. The boat began to turn in circles. Everyone was so frightened that nobody could speak. But one man kept trying to work on the motor, and after a few minutes it started again. I don’t remember how we reached shore. But I remember I kissed all the earth I could find. I hate the sea now. I hate it so much. I don’t like to swim it. I don’t like to look at it. I hate everything about it.” (Kos, Greece)

“The island we landed on was called Samothrace. We were so thankful to be there. We thought we’d reached safety. We began to walk toward the police station to register as refugees. We even asked a man on the side of the road to call the police for us. I told the other refugees to let me speak for them, since I spoke English. Suddenly two police jeeps came speeding toward us and slammed on the brakes. They acted like we were murderers and they’d been searching for us. They pointed guns at us and screamed: ‘Hands up!’ I told them: ‘Please, we just escaped the war, we are not criminals!’ They said: ‘Shut up, Malaka!’ I will never forget this word: ‘Malaka, Malaka, Malaka.’ It was all they called us. They threw us into prison. Our clothes were wet and we could not stop shivering. We could not sleep. I can still feel this cold in my bones. For three days we had no food or water. I told the police: ‘We don’t need food, but please give us water.’ I begged the commander to let us drink. Again, he said: ‘Shut up, Malaka!’ I will remember this man’s face for the rest of my life. He had a gap in his teeth so he spit on us when he spoke. He chose to watch seven people suffer from thirst for three days while they begged him for water. We were saved when they finally they put us on a boat and sent us to a camp on the mainland. For twelve days we stayed there before walking north. We walked for three weeks. I ate nothing but leaves. Like an animal. We drank from dirty rivers. My legs grew so swollen that I had to take off my shoes. When we reached the border, an Albanian policeman found us and asked if we were refugees. When we told him ‘yes,’ he said that he would help us. He told us to hide in the woods until nightfall. I did not trust this man, but I was too tired to run. When night came, he loaded us all into his car. Then he drove us to his house and let us stay there for one week. He bought us new clothes. He fed us every night. He told me: ‘Do not be ashamed. I have also lived through a war. You are now my family and this is your house too.’” (Kos, Greece)

“After one month, I arrived in Austria. The first day I was there, I walked into a bakery and met a man named Fritz Hummel. He told me that forty years ago he had visited Syria and he’d been treated well. So he gave me clothes, food, everything. He became like a father to me. He took me to the Rotary Club and introduced me to the entire group. He told them my story and asked: ‘How can we help him?’ I found a church, and they gave me a place to live. Right away I committed myself to learning the language. I practiced German for 17 hours a day. I read children's stories all day long. I watched television. I tried to meet as many Austrians as possible. After seven months, it was time to meet with a judge to determine my status. I could speak so well at this point, that I asked the judge if we could conduct the interview in German. He couldn't believe it. He was so impressed that I’d already learned German, that he interviewed me for only ten minutes. Then he pointed at my Syrian ID card and said: ‘Muhammad, you will never need this again. You are now an Austrian!’” (Kos, Greece)

7 Little Known Tricks That Will Get You More YouTube Views

2015-09-22T15:12:00.001-07:00

So you want to get more YouTube views, but you don’t know where to start? You’ve got the perfect title, tags and description, your video is hilarious and you’ve been promoting like crazy on your Facebook and Twitter page, but your video is still not getting the recognition you think it deserves? We’ve got you covered with a few little known tips that could help skyrocket your YouTube video views.

Before we get started, it’s important to note that Rome wasn’t built in a day and there is no foolproof method for turning your video into an overnight viral success. It may take time for your videos to start taking off, but these seven tips will definitely get you headed in the right direction and get you more views that you’re getting today.

Annotations across videos

You know those little text bubbles that you see popping up on people’s videos with text that says things like “Thumbs Up!” or “Subscribe!”? Those are called YouTube annotations and they are a fantastic way to increase your video views. Through annotations you can link from one video to another, as well as to playlists of your videos, your channel and more, compelling your viewers to watch more of your videos.

Annotations are a great way to point your viewers in the direction of watching your other videos, in order to drive up your view count across your entire channel. Find out more in our post, How To Use YouTube Annotations To Maximize Your Subscribers, Views & Overall YouTube Success and check out annotations in action in the video below. We created a collection of viral video compilations and used annotations to link every single video together, to entice viewers to watch not just one video, but all of the videos in the collection.

Playlists

A lot of YouTube users don’t realize that playlists are a great way to increase your video views. A playlist is a list, or group, of videos that will play in order, one video after another after another. The good thing about playlists is that they come up separately in search results. That means, if you’ve got a video about frogs or a playlist about animals that includes the frog video, viewers will have more opportunities when searching to find your video. They may choose to watch your playlist, or they may choose to watch your frog video.

Additionally, because playlists play your videos automatically one after the other, when viewers watch playlists they typically watch more of your videos, which is great for increasing the views across your channel. Playlists can also be embedded, so viewers can watch all your videos together on your blog or website. Find out more in our post, The Complete Guide To YouTube Playlists, and check out an example of an embedded playlist below.

Subscribers

Subscribers are, hands down, the best way to get more views on your videos. After all, the people that subscribe to you are your fan base and they are ready and waiting for you to upload new videos so that they can check them out. The more subscribers that you’ve got, the more views you will get within the first few days, or even hours, of uploading your video. When someone subscribes to you, all of your new videos will show up on their home page and they may even subscribe to be notified by email when you upload something new to the video site.

How do you get new subscribers? Aside form uploading great content on a regular basis, ask! A lot of viewers aren’t thinking about subscribing to anyone at all, but if an annotation pops up on the screen reminding them to subscribe or, better yet, if you ask them yourself in your video, they will be more likely to click through to subscribe to your future videos.

Bulletins
As you build up your subscriber base it’s important to communicate with your fans. One of the best ways is through bulletins. Just about a year ago, YouTube introduced bulletins. Bulletins let you easily send out text and videos to all of your subscribers and the bulletins appear on the homepage of your subscribers. Don’t be shy – send out bulletins to let your subscribers know when you upload new videos.

Video Responses

Another way in get more views on your YouTube videos is by posting them as video responses on more popular related videos. It’s easy to do and can get you a substantial number of clicks, if you’re lucky and post to the right video.

So how is it done? Head over to the video you’d like to post your video response to. You’ll notice that next to the comment box you can click on “Create a video response”. Click and you’ll be directed to a page that lists all of your videos. Click on the one you’d like to use as your video response. It takes two seconds and can be a great way to get some extra video views.

Community
If you aren’t taking advantage of the YouTube community yet then you’re only hurting yourself. By commenting on videos that you like, subscribing to and following other cool video makers and reaching out to your YouTube “idols” you can do a world of good. Not only does joining the community spread your name around and encourage the people who’s videos you comment on (and others who see your comments) to head over to your channel and check out your videos, but it also helps to broaden your network and open doors for future collaborations.

Collaborating with other YouTubers is great (especially when they have a following of their own) because when you collaborate you introduce one another to your follows, hopefully leading to more subscribers and fans.

Topical Content

Finally, if you want to get a lot of views in a short time then one of your best bets is to create some topic content about something that is big right now. It could be a remix of an already popular video, a cover of a popular song, a review or parody of a movie that just came out, or something related to a big news story. Title your video similarly to that of the original clips, songs, movie trailers, or news stories and not only will your video come up in the same results, but you also might wind up on the sidebar of the popular clips as a recommended video.

Do you have any other suggestions for getting more YouTube views? Feel free to share them with us in the comments!

15 Answers To Things You've Always Wondered About

2015-03-31T06:06:00.000-07:00

There have got to be a few things in life you've always wondered about. I'm not necessarily talking about the answer to life (42) or anything big picture like that, I'm talking about small things you encounter in your daily life. Like when you take a shower that lasts way too long and your fingers become pruney - why is that? I thought it maybe had something to do with absorbing the water, but I've never been quite sure... until now.

1. If our blood is red, why are our veins blue?

No matter what people try to tell you, our blood is always red. So why do our veins look blue? It's because there are different wavelengths with different properties hitting our arm when we look at it. The blue light just happens to be absorbed by the blood and make it back to your eye.

Why does turkey make you tired?

The answer: it doesn't. Contrary to popular belief, it's not the tryptophan (an amino acid that makes up the brain chemicals that make you tired) in the turkey that makes you sleepy. It's actually the sheer amount of food and beverage you've consumed during your holiday meal.

3. Why can't you hear a singer's accent in a song?

Without hearing the Spice Girls in an interview, you probably wouldn't have guessed they were British (unless you took a look at their outfits!). This has everything to do with phonetics and cadence. Singers who speak with an accent are forced to completely lose it when they have to stress certain syllables in a song and elongate their vowels. The result ends up sounding almost "American."

4. Why do we crave greasy food when we're hungover?

Almost everyone craves a big ol' plate of greasy food after a night of drinking, but why? It's high in fat, high in calories, and you'd probably never eat any other time. The reason behind this craving is a brain chemical called galanin, which increases your appetite for fats. Since alcohol increases your body's production of galanin, you're going to want that big fat breakfast pronto.

5. Why is the drinking age 21?

You can thank the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 for this one. So while it's largely up to each state to decide their legal drinking age, this law told these states that they had to enact a minimum drinking age of 21 or else they would lose 10% of their highway funding. Since no state wanted to give up that funding, that means that no one under the age of 21 can legally purchase or publicly possess alcohol.

6. What's the difference between "&" and "and" in movie credits?

The ampersand (&) means that two writers worked together to write the script, whereas "and" means that one writer re-wrote the others' work.

7. Why can't we decide if tomatoes are fruits or vegetables?

It looks like a vegetable, but it's classified as a fruit. Or is it the other way around? The tomato is technically a fruit since it protects and contains the seeds of its plant, but according to a Supreme Court ruling, is is classified as a vegetable. Why? The Tariff Act of March 3, 1883 required a tax to be paid on imported vegetables, but not fruit, and they didn't want any tomato farmers going untaxed.
8. Why do we say "cheese" when we get our pictures taken?

The origin is unknown, but when you say "cheese," the act of saying the word turns the corners of your mouth lift up, your cheeks lift, and you show off a toothy grin.

9. What is it about showers and creative thoughts?

Our best ideas come to us in the shower because its a mindless task. Since your shower routine doesn't require much thought, it frees your mind to wander and think of something else.

10. Why is the sky blue?

Much like our veins appear blue, it has everything to do with wavelengths and blue light. Blue light scatters more than the other colors in the spectrum because it travels as shorter, smaller waves.

11. Why do different languages call countries by different names?

Most of us know Germany as, well, Germany. But to the Germans, they known their homeland as Deutschland. The simplest explanation is that languages pre-date countries, sometimes by centuries. So when small settlements joined together to create countries, like Germany, there were multiple names for the region, depending on the language. It's all in who you know.

12. Why do our fingers get wrinkly in the shower?

Scientists have figured out why our fingers and toes get wrinkly during bathtime. It actually has nothing to do with absorbing the water, and everything to do with improving our grip on things underwater. Think of it like the treads in a tire giving a much better grip in slippery conditions. The human body is amazing.

13. Why does the letter U almost always accompany the letter Q?

The reason for this pairing is because QU is a digraph, which is a pair of letters that represents a single sound. In this case, it's "kw." Basically, the two are treated as a single character in the English language, mostly from borrowed words from Latin. Q's without U's aren't as common, but can be found in words like Iraq.

14. How do magnets work?

"Magnets: how do they work?" Actually, The Insane Clown Posse asked a good question. According to Northeastern University, a magnet is simply any object that produces its own magnetic field and interacts with other magnetic field. Magnets have two poles (north and south) and the magnetic field starts and the north pole and ends at the south pole.

So if you have two magnets next to each other, and their north poles are facing each other, you will feel them repel. And when you place a north pole next to a south pole, they will attract. Science.

15. Why do we have eyebrows?

You have to pluck them and prune them, so why do they even exist? Aside from being a very distinct feature on your face that helps you communicate, there's actually a very good reason eyebrows exist. If you've ever run longer than to catch a bus, you know just how sweaty your forehead can get - sweat can even drip down into your eyes and cause temporary blindness. And that's why your eyebrows exist. Consider them a built-in headband!

Rigging models in Blender 2.64 - a workflow

2015-03-17T16:19:00.001-07:00

This is a run-through of the workflow I would use to get models rigged for Second Life upload. It doesn't include details on weight painting or modelling, and I assume the reader knows their way around the Blender interface.

This tutorial owes a lot to AshaSekayi's excellent youtube video series, but quite a few things have changed since then, so I wanted to give a clear and more current overview of how the rigging and export/import processes work in a recent Blender version.

Requirements:

Blender 2.64 installed (since the bone weight copy script apparently doesn't work with 2.65) (and please note that you can have more than one version of Blender installed at once - just use a different install location)
The free Bone Weight Copy script correctly installed (instructions on that page)
Download the free Avatar Workbench file - choose the Blender 2.63 version.
A ready-to-rig model

1. Preparing the file and models

Open the avatar workbench file in Blender. It has several elements on different layers:

Layer 1: Unjoined SL avatar model (i.e. head, upper body and lower body are 3 separate meshes)
Layer 2: A makehuman avatar, rigged correctly for SL
Layer 6: Default SL avatar hair, skirt, eyes etc.
Layer 10: SL armature

Only layers 1 and 10 are required. You can either ignore the models on the other layers, or delete them for tidiness. I also prefer to join the SL avatar into one piece and move it to a different layer, so layer 1 is free for my model. (To join the models, select them all and press Ctrl-J. To move, press m and then choose the target layer.)

Import the model(s) to be rigged using File > Append.

e.g. I browse to test.blend, double click to open it and there's a list of folders containing all the information in that blend file. To import a model, open the Object folder and choose the correct item from the list.

The model should now show up in your active layer. (N.B. if it was hidden in the original file, it will be hidden here too. Check the outliner or press alt-H to reveal it.) Ensure that it is positioned correctly. If necessary, activate the SL avatar layer to check this.

At this point, save the file with a different name to keep the main avatar workbench file clean for later use.

2. Parenting the model to the SL armature

Ensure that both your model's layer and layer 10 are both showing. You can shift-click in the layer panel to have more than one active at a time.

Select your model, then shift-right-click the armature to select it also. (The armature must be selected last.) Press Ctrl-P to parent the object to the armature; choose "Armature deform" from the list.

Now select the model by itself. Go to the Object Modifiers panel (the wrench icon), and you should see that an armature deform has been applied. Uncheck "bind to bone envelopes" - this is automatic weighting applied by the armature modifier that does not work in SL. It can be confusing because if we leave it checked and pose the armature, the model will appear to be weighted already. We will keep vertex groups checked, and apply our weighting that way.

Deactivate the armature layer and activate both your model's layer and the layer with the joined SL avatar.

3. Bone weight copy

We will now use the bone weight copy script to apply the correct vertex groups to our model. Select first your model, then shift-right-click select the joined avatar.

In the toolbox on the left (press t to show/hide it) at the bottom should be a section called "Bone weight copy".

Interpolation: higher = better weight copy quality, but if you're just testing then leave it at 1, because it will take longer at higher numbers.
Both checkboxes should be ticked.

Press "Copy bone weights". This will take some time depending on the complexity of your model, and it might look as if Blender has crashed. Leave it for a few minutes; when it's completed, the objects will no longer be selected.

To check that the weights have been copied, select your model and open the Object Data panel (the inverted triangle icon). Under Vertex groups there should now be a list of bones, e.g. mHead and mNeck. You can also open weight paint mode, select each bone in the vertex group box and see the coloured weights.

At this point you would normally begin to tweak the weighting and clean it up. There are some good tutorials in Asha's video series (Primer 1 & 2) and in the Avastar tutorials (video 6: Mesh Weighting). If you're just testing the process, move on to the next step.

4. Checking the rigged model

Activate the armature layer and the model layer so you can see them both at the same time. Select the armature and go into pose mode. Rotate the bones to make sure that the model is moving with the armature.

5. Exporting as Collada / Importing to SL

Select the object and choose File > Export > Collada

Select the following export options (in the panel on the left)
- check Selection Only
- check Include Armatures
- check Export for Second Life

Export the file and save.

In the Second Life mesh uploader, select the model as your highest LOD. (Usually, you would go through the above process for all the lower LODs, but you can let SL generate its own for a test upload.)

Under Upload Options, check "Include Skin Weight"

In the preview options on the right, select "skin weights" and "joints" so you can see that the model is positioned correctly on the SL avatar.

Upload and wear the model.
