MahaShivratri celebrations at Brahma Kumaris, Shanti Sarovar

On the eve of Maha Shivratri 10^th March which is a Hindu festival celebrated to worship Shiva, Brahma Kumaris organized a grand fair having various good events like Inspiring talks, mediation, cultural events, Drug deaddiction stall and many more.

My wife, who is very spiritual and religious by nature, somehow came to know about the event and shared the idea of visiting the place and as we didn’t planned anything for the evening, I thought it is worth to try. Also, it was very near to our residence. Initially, I was bit hesitant to attend this event but my wife successfully convinced me which is very common. And now I must say it was one of its kind events and I really enjoyed that evening much beyond I imagined. It is always good to spend time on the new experiences than spending money in shopping and restaurants as the gratification is really high and lasting in the former.

Let me describe the day. We entered the Brahma Kumaris, Shanti Sarovar, Hyderabad at around 6 pm and Parked our 2 wheeler and looked around. It was a beautiful campus sprawled in 34 acres area of Land having a good number of fountains, waterfalls and amazing green cover. It was a very soothing view and calm and peaceful atmosphere was enough to make us relax. From outside, nobody can imagine such a beautiful calm campus amidst the high rise buildings and traffic. In the campus, one can read the positive and inspiring quotes written on small boards everywhere. I at once realized that it was a perfect place to relax, unwind ourselves from the daily stressful life and to recharge our inner self. Luckily, I had carried my small little camera that day.

As soon as we entered in the beautiful garden where all the events were planned, we were nicely welcome and it was an amazing feeling. At one side, all the Jyotirlingas i.e 12 were beautifully created. Although, i was bit shy to use a camera there but i captured.

After we visited all the Jyotirlingas, somebody instructed us to visit the big shivling next. It was really beautiful and quite large.

As we completed Darshan, we visited various stalls in the garden teaching some beautiful wisdom, telling us our purpose of life and some other amazing life skills. However, pathetic me stuck in this rat race forgot about all the lessons. Now, I am not able to recall any. We also purchased some good posters like Importance of silence, Anger is one word less than Danger and many more and some good literature which I believe i will never read. There was 1 stall teaching you about importance of meditation in this competitive world. After visiting all that, we settled on the ground to see some cultural events planned during the evening.

9 goddesses whom we worship in Navratras

In one of the event, 9 goddesses were showcased along with their specialty and at the same time, there was some commentary at the background telling us about the importance of each Goddess.
It was very informative. Let me give you 1 example: Goddess sitting on extreme left wearing sky blue colored saree is Santoshi Devi who is also called as 'Mother of Satisfaction' and responsible for the satisfaction level in our life. It is believed that if you worship her regularly, then your greedy nature will be lessened and you will be more satisfied in your life.

Excerpt from a Drama

There were large number of small events conceptualized to keep the interest of everyone, however some of the programs were in Telegu (Regional Language) which bored us. In the last, there was some play based on the theme of 'How love can be the only solution to calm down the angry and negative energy in us.' The scene in the play was taken from the very famous serial, Devo ke Dev Mahadev, telecasted on Color channel these days. Luckily, I have watched that episode 2 days before and thus enjoyed the scene more.

Finally, at 10, we went to our home. It was a very beautiful evening spend with my wife. At least, it was far far better than visiting any shopping mall. I was feeling rejuvenated instead of feeling exhausted.

I am looking forward for more visits at Shanti Sarovar to experience that calm and serene environment. It is a very good place for someone who like to spend their time with nature. Also, There are no charges of any kind like parking etc. Everything is absolutely free.

Friday’ Magic Moments at Office

Today, I am very happy and excited about my wife’ first birthday after marriage which is very close i.e. just 10 days left for the celebration.

In India, we stress so much on every festival or event especially when it is first time after marriage. Every other day, I used to listen something like that this is your first Holi/ Diwali/Birthday/New Year and what not after marriage. I am not ranting or anything but instead it gives me a pleasure. It gives me a feeling that this time we will celebrate the festivals in some special way with more excitement coming our way .And yes, this is true. We are newlywed; sometimes I wonder till what time, we will remain a newlywed. I believe till eternity because it is a feeling, it is a matter of feeling how excited are you. Hehehe, married people must be puzzled.

Last week, we went to Shirdi, next week is my wife’s birthday, Next to next week, we are going to our Hometown for Holi celebrations and also first time after Marriage and next to next to next week, I am having some specials travel plans which are in progress but very much finalized and which will be a gift to my wife on her 1^st birthday after marriage.

Still making plans about her first Birthday how to make it special. For now, i have planned some surprises at midnight and then the buffet in a fine dining restaurant. If anybody has some good plan, please do share.

Tribute to my Grandfather - Part 3

After the holi ended, his end was also quite near. Although his health is improving, his mood was getting worse. I remembered the incident when he tore the 5 rs note. He was like a kid in those days. His activities are not like that of matured man. I once read a poem “The seven ages and it said that the 1^st and 7^th stages are exactly similar and very few people in this world experience this 7^th and last stage. I like his attitude. What happened once in last days that he asked for a pomegranate juice and that was not allowed. My grandmother told him to get him the juice of Mausami. I told her, let him drink pomegranate juice. She agreed and I don’t know why I said this perhaps it was in my subconscious mind that now he can be dead any time. All these things keep happened and the doom day comes, I didn’t remember the exact date. Let me tell you about the day from the very beginning. Night before the black day, I was in the hospital. In the morning, pintoo chacha came and I was asked to leave. Further, I was given certain instructions to purchase so much food from the Sargadho and give it to kodi aashram and also to go to gaushala where the holy cows live to donate some money over there for the grass, diet of the cow. After finishing these things, I went straight to home and slept. It was around 6,7 pm when my mother woke me up informing me, he was no longer among us.

Babaji was the word I used for him. He always asks me to sit in his room while dinner but I talk to him for a while and then went into my room. I was such a pathetic couch potato who didn’t understand the value. He keeps coming into my dreams and still threatens me some times, haha, it was a funny. I think today also, he would come to my dreams and to tell me how I was going on the blog about him, whether to include anything or erase anything. He was such a darling. There are lot of incidents that I remember quite vividly about him. There are also certain events about which today I feel guilty. There were days when I didn’t respect him at all and argues him, totally ignore him but gradually, I started about his way of thinking and emotions as I am growing. May be same would happen to me and even worse, this is life.

He was also the topic when I was drinking with my brother in Fox, Gurgaon. Everybody on our family is so grateful to him. He was the one who decided to switch to job after his retirement as my father died when I was small, he advised my mother to become a teacher. He decided that we both should continue our school It was he who decided to construct the shops in our garden. It was the most difficult of the decision of his life as we all know how much close is the garden to his heart. Efforts never go waste and when the time was come to reap the benefits of his efforts, he passed away. His decisions are so fruitful to us today. He makes us feel proud always. One thing I always learned from him is to live with proud. He was very passionate and once when I went with him to distribute Diwali gifts, somebody told him why do you drink? My Baba simply replied, it was my passion and the people lives for their passion. Those were also the great days when every year I used to go to him to distribute gifts in the morning in chacha’s car Fiat. These memories also keep flashing. Mostly, dhadkan music was played in the car as it was the only cassette in the car. As a result of which, whenever I listen to the songs of this movie, I got lost in my younger days which I spend with my babaji. I like the way my baba and his attitude was respected by everybody.

I caught a train from Lucknow. Its Lucknow Chandigarh, I usually prefer this train because I know how to get berth in this train without the reservation, in fact process is same in all the cases, I would rather say I know what the TT charges in this case. I was very lucky to catch this train as the time was not sufficient but still one thing we learn in colleges is rash driving. Here comes its application. In the meantime, I also enquired my brother if it was the truth what the mother said or something else. My brother confirmed and told he would leave Delhi tomorrow morning along with bua and fufaji and of course my cousins. It was a very chilly night and the rain was falling continuously It appeared to me for a moment if there is something wrong seriously as the god was also supporting my eyes. It was of course very serious but during such times, it’s a tendency of the mind to be steered towards negative and worst repercussions. I talked to the tt, got the birth and those were the days, when I have started reading. I have said reading because Atlas shrugged was my first serious reading of the life. It also helps me in bad times. As I woke up, I had a cigarette and waited for the destination. My mind was full of what-if questions. It was heavily raining and the environment was very depressed. As I landed in Saharanpur, I got a call from my brother. They have just entered in Saharanpur at around 8am and as the arrival time of my train was also the same, on the top of it, it was raining, So they called me to know where I have reached. When I informed them, they came at station to receive me and then we all finally went directly to the hospital. I always feel a kind of shyness in company of my relatives. I don’t know whether it is natural or due to my other mental requirements.

After we exchanged the greetings in the hospital, there was a kind of contact of eyes between me and my grandfather that dampen my eyes and spirit little. But I try to remain normal, as soon as we entered, condition of DM is getting worse and someone told me to get the Gangajal from the house of Dr. Jaipal Uncle whose house is very close. I walked in the rain to the house unaware of the whether it was tears or water, I asked for the same. This was another point where I felt little shyness. I went back to the hospital and my grandmother helped him to swallow the gangajal. In Hindu mythology, something rubbish is believed about gangajal and its effect or what so ever. I think I shouldn’t say the water rubbish but who knows is it really the gangajal. Haha…its normal in our mythology but let it be, we shouldn’t make fun of it. One must try to accept people and things and traditions as they are and not as he perceived. After spending some time, we were asked to go to home and then bring lunch after a gap of 3, 4 hours. I don’t know who went along with me, but one thing that I remember was that I left the hospital on Activa.

The best thing is when two People love each other very much, it becomes difficult to express. This case requires no extra explanation. Beauty and love is in the eyes of beholder as said by Shakespeare, in fact I would say respected Shakespeare. The days passed like this, DM began to recover slowly, relatives left, my brother plan to left on holi.

Holi also comes, I went to railway station to drop my brother. That holi was not the most colorless. There were Holi’s even horrible and depressing than that. Those were the days when my disagreement was at the peak against those who preaches Holi is the most colorful festival. Of course, it was a bad argument.

Things comes and goes, life moves on. Life waits for nobody and the most mystic element i.e., time heals everything.

U turn in Blog's Vision and Tribute to MY Grandfather Part-1

Well, I believe that probably nobody his reading this blog these days as it had lost its charm it once had when I was in college and wrote regularly. I am not sure if it was good but based on the number of hits, I can evaluate. I love this phase of blog also.

Everything in this world comes with an expiry and more formally, we call it life cycle. Life cycle consists of 5 phases and the last phase is usually decline. I am not sure if this blog is at the decline stage because gradually as I am shifting my focus more on the internal things rather than external, the posts of this blog are getting bit personnel. So, One of the view can also be that this blog is Rebranding itself and thus in a conceive stage. I am also not looking for people to read it, I am just doing it for myself because today, if I read the posts, I wrote before 2 years, it gives me a high. This is like recording your life high's and low's.

Today, I would like to write about my Grandfather. The idea is not to dampen your spirit or makes you sad but just to share the story, story of my life, not a story, it is actually a phase or perhaps I am not finding the right word. This post is an instrument through which I am saying to my grandfather that I am very happy, got married also. The best thing we can give to the people who are not with us today is to be happy all the time and live their dreams, carry their values and remember them in our heart.

Sometimes you realized your strength when it’s too late. The strength here refers to my grandfather and late refers to when he passes away. Don’t worry about the context. This is another purpose of this post apart from digging me deep into it to know myself better.

Let me start with the moment when my grandfather was admitted in the Tarawati hospital in Saharanpur and struggling to live or perhaps die, didn’t know exactly and I was in the Lucknow in 3rd year of my engineering. It was in February, 2007, I got a call from my mother and she told me to come immediately to Saharanpur. When I asked, she told me all the details without hiding anything. She also told me that when they have asked my grandfather if he wanted to meet somebody. He nodded when they take my name at last. Before that they have taken the name of many of the relatives but he was just lying on the bed without responding. It was when they take my name, he nodded. I think that’s because during his last days, I spend a lot of time with him. He was having some deep wound in his right foot and the recovery was at the slowest pace as he was having diabetes from the very early age. He was not able to walk properly, I used to support him while going for washrooms, at least 3, 4 times a day, also we used to go to hospital every alternate day to get his dressing changed whenever I was at home. And during those days, most of the time, I was at the home. The reason as attendance doesn’t matter in our college and also I don’t enjoyed to be in the college in those days due to all those silly reasons of love and hate. The irony was that I used to ignore him every time, he just wants to talk to me just for 5 minutes and I always deprived him of the conversation. He was the 1st person in the family to know about smoking. He is the gem. He is always full of ego, always in an angry mood, fighting with my grandmother and always asks us so many questions that we used to call him the Dm, Danger man. Everybody knows him by DM except himself, even my grandmother. We always hate present and started loving it when it is changed to past and the intensity of love always increase with time.

Leisure time in Office

Today, I am not having much work in the office as of now, Touchwood. Last few weeks were so much demanding and the stressful that I lost the track of the time. Life becomes so fast, I wake up came to office, went home to sleep. Sometimes, on Monday itself, i become so exhausted that the weekend waits began on the first day of the week.At the same time, I also want to spend quality time with my wife but that was not happening.

I decided to write something in office today after a long time to unwind myself. Its Thursday and I am waiting desperately for the Friday. The reason being we have planned for Shirdi trip this weekend. I have already been to Shirdi once couples of year back with my friends but this time trip is planned with my wife and also it would be first of our trip after marriage. Also, from last few months, every ticket I booked in flight or train went in vain due to my injury or the other reason. I was very scared this time planning for the trip. Perhaps, my luck is not working these days so actually my wife had planned the trip. Let’s see if its actually get executed. Also, my leaves balances are in negative, around -14 as I had taken lot of leaves due to my hand injury. That is why I am not able to plan my long pending honeymoon.

BTW, all this is not a problem, as my wife says we have complete life to travel.

I will write the other post if my plan went green.

For my Loving wife

This blog is dedicated to my wife. I love her so much that life seems to be impossible without her now.

Just a random thought came yesterday which prompt me to write about her in my blog.

I was operated on my right elbow 8 days before our marriage and 4 screws were inserted and doctor told that healing time for bone is 6 around 6 months. Somehow, marriage happened with all the functions cut short. Everybody was in a bad mood but let me not distract from the topic by describing about my marriage. This post is about the support which I get from my wife after the marriage.

Going on the honeymoon is the dream of every newlywed couple and similarly, I guess my wife expected the same but due to my injury; she accompanied me to Hospital for physiotherapy every day from the day we get married i.e. last 3 months. Every couple goes to Honeymoon and we are going to hospital. She never said a word and not even felt like it. We always enjoyed within our constraints. When we were in Delhi, every after visiting Hospital, we began our Delhi tour and covered almost all the import monuments and places in Delhi like Delhi Hatt, Lotus temple, Iskcon temple, Red fort, Qutab minar, Jantar mantar, Agarsen ki baoli, Cp market, janpath market. If somebody asks me, why do I get married? My reply would be “to be together.” And that is what we are doing.

I must say there is magic in her hand. She spends so much time in the Kitchen to surprise me every day with the delicious food. The best thing I like is that she never compromises on a nutritious quality of food. She always makes the healthy food so that my healing will be expedited as much as possible. She always laid emphasis on eating the food in the house only. She massages my feet daily so that I get a good night sleep no matter how hard I object and believe me before marriage I was a kind of insomniac but now I am fine.She is very hardworking, supportive and patient. Whenever I feel low, she cheers me up by her smiling face and always maintaining her calm. She is my strength, motivation to do the best in every area of my life.

Demystifying Relation between Food and Stress

Long back,I have read the research on the connection between the food and stress levels which reports that the intake of food is positively correlated with stress levels. Recently, i begun to appreciate this research. Not only this, to accentuate further, during the high stress levels, I also observed that my affinity towards junk food increases. I prefer more of the pizza and pastas, KFCs and Mcdonalds depspite of the fact that they are nothing more than the junk causing the loss of both health as well as wealth. But when i feel calm and at peace with myself, i avoid the junk food and prefers simple and healthy food.

Today, I was feeling very stressed in the afternoon due to improper sleep, work load and simple as usual relationship issue. As I entered in the canteen, there is a strong uncontrollable urge to eat Chicken Biryani. These days I am also trying to avoid non vegetarian food but today after a long time, urge was very strong. I realized my soul was looking for the instant gratification and that is why I feel the urge. I knew well in advance that eating Biryani will not going to provide any gratification or reduce any problem but on the contrary, it will make me more sluggish and sleepy and effect my productivity. But the problem is that when you are feeding the negative energy in you, it gets boost. I remember a very nice story. Please read it below. A fight is going on inside me, he said to the boy. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.This same fight is going on inside you and inside every other person, too. The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, which wolf will win? The old Cherokee simply replied, the one you feed.

But inspite of all this, I thought nothing is going as expected so let me love myself more by feeding myself with Biryani and I give in. As soon as I finished it, I am finding it hard to stand and walk and my eyes find it difficult to remain open. It is 5.30 pm now and 5 minutes of joy the biryani gives me is far less than the efforts I poured in my work. But I know myself, Instead of getting any lessons from it, I will again repeat this again as this had happened before many times. Such is nature of the mind. We knowingly make mistakes.

In the meantime, I also arranged the plan of beer today. Although, drinking on the first working day of the week is the rarest thing in my life but still I will go out today as it is Tuesday, we had holiday on Monday this time. No need to mention any relation between alcohol intake and stress level as it is self evident.

Some points to remember to have a happy life

It is not that I am claiming myself some guru or what but believe me in these challenging times, keeping in mind the following points will definitely help.

There are not my original points but sort of compilations of different talks and speeches I have came across and which i modeled as per as my convenience. Coming back to these points is what I do when i feel low.

You cannot change anybody but yourself. Instead of complaining about anything or everything, you can work upon yourself to always maintain your calm simply because you cannot change anybody else but definitely work on yourself.
Always have the attitude of gratitude and feel blessed for all what we have instead of complaining about what we don't. Always remember there are millions of people who dream of living our life. If you are still not convinced, have a look on handicapped people around us and thank god. You must have heard a quote, "I always complain about my old shoes unless I saw the person without legs." Never complain instead confront problems with smile because only our reaction is under our control and not everything.
This world is very friendly place to live and god want all of us to do the best in our lives.
Trust people openly no matter how many times you are hurt because Out of every 10 cases, you will get a person for life in 7 cases and may feel hurt 3 times. Everybody is like us and nobody really wants to hurt anybody. It is just the circumstances which make people do such things. Sometimes, we also hurt others.
Appreciate nature. For me, nature is a biggest source of inspiration for me. Feel the wind, plants, waterfalls, tress, everything around us and you will be amazed to think that we take so many things for granted. Sun, Trees gives their heat, light and shade to everyone without any prejudice and as well with detachment. Such should be the nature of the mankind.
Don't think too much. Just believe in your capabilities. Try to live in present. When life is not getting your way, always think that life has some better plan for you and which is of course better that your path as it is planned by god itself.
Try to take care of your health because in order to live a life fully, you must possess good health.

Writing after long time

Writing something after long time is not an easy task especially when you are working. In college, I wrote so many blogs with average of 8 blogs every month but after college ended in April,2012, not a single blog was written. It was not that I am not having time but it is because after college so many changes had taken place in my life that every time, I plan to write something, the idea of sharing so many things discourages me and as a result, I ended up in some other activity.

I got engaged with Chhavi Aggarwal, one of my classmates in school on 17^th April. Please don’t confuse it with a love marriage, the question many people asks when they came to know we are from the same class. I always told them, if I knew her so closely in school as I know her now, I will definitely be fall into love with her. She is beyond my imaginations and I am very lucky to have her as my wife.

My joining in corporate was from 21^st May in Bangalore. We made the best use of 1 month and met around 13, 14 times. We went everywhere in Saharanpur we thought of going before I left my home for job.

Today, I reminisced how difficult it was for me to leave on 18^th May . Holding her hand first time, proposing her, giving red roses to her, saying ‘darling’ to her first time are the moments very closed to my heart and now sleeping at night without listening to her voice became impossible. I am not writing this post to impress her or something like that but just to warm up myself before I return to my blog in a full-fledged manner.

Besides this, presently I am in Hyderabad. Last 1 month is sort of transition and I felt like I am in a travelling job but I enjoyed. Actually after spending 3 weeks in Bangalore which is about Induction, I got the project in Hyderabad. It is only yesterday that I have shifted in my 3 bhk flat which is I am sharing with 2 more guys. Finally, I unpacked my luggage after 1 month and was surprised to see many things which I almost forgot.

My marriage is planned in November. Besides, there are lot of things like planning Honeymoon, shopping.

I will return to this post as soon as I get the time. Let it be published as saving it again in the draft will serve no purpose and also it lost its meaning after sometime.

Jaya: An Illustrated Retelling of the Mahabharata by Devdutt Pattanaik

Jaya : An Illustrated Retelling of the Mahabharata, is a beautiful condensed story of our great and one of the longest epic written in very simple and easy writing style by Mr. Devdutt Pattanaik, Chief Belief Officer of Future Group. Devdutt had managed to hook the reader throughout the novel by his art of storytelling. It is my first read of the Devdutt and I am looking forward to read more novels. I have already buy Myth = Mythya. I came to know about him in our Management class of Organization behavior by our faculty.

I would say it a must read if you have never been introduced to Mahabharata. It is good for the starters who sometimes shy away from the book considering it very long. Even if you have watched the serial on Television, it would be a good read. The best part about it is that it includes a lot of small regional stories which are not included in the other similar novels or TV serial. And also, the scope for the confusion is minimized by mentioning the different beliefs systems or different stories in the different parts by mentioning it explicitly. Also, it entails a lot of information through bullet points which are at the end of every chapter. In my case, as soon as the confusion arose, I referred the bullet points and it was solved.

I have also read the Great Indian Novel by Shashi Tharoor which is about comparing the epic with Modern India. Different characters like Gandhi, Nehru, Bose are compared with different characters of Mahabharata.

The part of Mahabharata in which Krishna gave the Geeta was bit short in the novel but that is okay as that was complete book in itself. One of the best dialogues I like is Krishna is wisdom and Arjuna is action and both of them are present inside us.

I am also planning to read the book on Mahabharata by Gurcharan das, the difficulty of being good.

To conclude, I would say you can read this if you are a starter or less than 30 as the novel is full of cartoons and pictures which are to impress the youth or attract the children but if you have really read Mahabharata 2,3 times by different authors, then I doubt if you will be moved.

Learnings of a Travelling Bag

Some travelling tips, I would like to share with all of you as per as my recent experiences. Although, you will get lot of tips on web but these tips are bit different and shared to enhance the travelling experiences and apply to those only who are real travel freaks and who does not believe on planning and booking the things in advance but start without any preparation with not so big budget. And yes that is obvious one cannot follow such carefree attitude at all the places.

· Never land anywhere after 7, 8 pm because you have to bargain very hard for accommodation then. At such hour, you are in hurry to get the room so as not to waste the night and this is what the people take advantage of. We once went to Alibaugh at 11pm, everything was closed and we ourselves are not comfortable enough to look for a cheap cottage. We finalized the one quickly and ended up in paying extra money which we have saved if landed 2, 3 hours before.

· Take risks and make mistakes because at the end of the day, everything would be fine. Go on wrong routes deliberately and enjoy these risks to the fullest.

· Try to spend more time at less places than to spend less time at more placesè keep it inch wide and mile deep rather than mile wide and inch deep for the better understanding of the place and culture.

· Break your journey: If your journey is more than 7, 8 hours at a stretch, you can always have the option of splitting the journey and cover more parts provided there are more tourist spots nearby. When we went to Goa from Mumbai, we stayed at Ratnagiri for 1 night which is a very good place and break our 9 hour long journey into 6 and 3. In this way, travelling is much more stress free and rewarding at the same time.

· Concentrate less on photographs and more on experience: This is personnel view because some people travel exclusively for capturing some amazing photographs. But some people even I had travelled with them never switch off their camera. It is good if you are capturing some statue or landscape or beaches but there is no point in posing yourself again and again in front of them and then asking people, please take 1 picture.

· Prefer small group that cannot be sub grouped to avoid the conflict of ideas at small little things and also to avoid stress. When the group is small, you always have the options of saving a lot of unnecessary time wasting activities like follow ups, waiting and calling each other asking where are you, when you will come and so on. Believe me, so much time is saved in smaller groups. In large groups, even when you eat and drink at a Restaurant, it takes a hell lot of time.

· Travel in Local buses or local vehicles there rather than your personnel car or radio taxi to enhance your experience and knowledge about the culture of the place.

· Log off your mobile and facebook accounts to enjoy better instead of sharing every place you visit at facebook and then expecting comments.

Memory: The Last Leaf

I was feeling quite bored, had nothing to do on this weekend. It is Saturday. I went into balcony and started watching the nature. I don’t know how this thought of the short story ‘The Last leaf’ by O. Henry came in my mind. I had read this story early in my school life. I still remember the day when I read this story, it was raining heavily. Also, in one of the scene of the novel, it was raining heavily. Somehow, it became a part of my memory. After 15, 16 years, I still remember this beautiful story.

Sue and Johnsy were 2 girls and one of them fell ill. A failed artist also lives in the same apartment. He was failed in his life in achieving what he wants but at the end, he painted a masterpiece which saves the life of the girl. I am not sure which girl.

Life at NITIE

NITIE, another name for life and luxury and heaven. Its location makes it like another hill station and its ambiance gives it an air of tourist spot. The only difference being that here the tourist comes for 2 years, a long holiday span by any measure. Life here is so chilled out. Less classes and happy go workloads will make you a lazy guy whose sleep appetite will gradually increase and can even go to up to 15,16 hours; there is no big deal in that. There is something in the air of NITIE and on the top of that; there is good weather and 4 times food in the mess which are responsible for these ‘not so shocking’ episodes of narcolepsy.

Without any doubt, these 2 years are the best time of everybody’s life and with each day passing so fast and bringing us near to next corporate phase is simply brings dismay. This is the perfect time to live your passions, to do anything you like. Besides common passion of sleeping, tasting new whiskies, reading the classics, learning photography, learning Guitar, blogging, exhaustive travelling are some of new emerging passions at NITIE. Life cannot be better. Every time, I interacted with any senior who had passed out from NITIE, he always have one advice for me and that is to live your life fully, enjoy everything because time flies at NITIE and once you join corporate world, you will never get the time and miss the every moment you spend in NITIE.

Yesterday, I was at the Nescafe, college canteen at around 2 am and the ambiance there was perfect to give me the feel of mall road culture in hill stations during peak seasons. There were more than 50 students enjoying sipping coffee, eating Maggi and gossiping and laughing looking more like tourists. Each one is in a celebrating mood without any occasion.

How to deal with Bigmouthed people?

How many of you are happened to be the victim of free advice given by those who doing except talking. Such species are present at every corner of the world especially in India. How hard you can try but you cannot escape from them. I wonder from where such nincompoop appears and what is their purpose of life.

The things that irritates me the most is when you are busy doing something and somebody obstruct you in between and say, Do it this way. I keep nodding without giving any attention to them and praying for them. Many times, people give you advice just for the sake of talking and to let you know that they also have opinion about this, however, they also knew about the pathetic piece of advice given by them.

“Have I asked you”, is the most common reply given by the short tempered people. The irony is that even such questions didn’t stop them and they began to give excuses like I am trying to help you.

Let me tell you the best way to deal with such blabby personalities. As soon as they start talking, just tell them that their mouth is smelling. They appearance suddenly changed to very innocent person and they say they have wash their mouth in the morning and don’t know from why this bad odour is coming and you are done. Still, if someone is not stop, tell them their teeth are looking yellow. They will suddenly close their mouth and try to clean their teeth using their tongue and forgot about what they came to talk. I am sure they will ask you to excuse them in a moment.

Solo Travelling: A dream

I have never been a solo traveller for a tourist destination except once when I visited Agra and Fatehpur Sikhri alone. But I would not call that journey a true solo journey because it was just a 1 day trip from Delhi and I was back by night and another and more valid reason is that I have visited that place before also.

In Kolkata where I lived alone, I planned for Sunderban and Sikkim alone but wasn’t quite sure and the packages were out of the budget. None of that tour happened. I keep touring around Kolkata alone on all the weekends for 6 weeks. When I came back, I really felt that I have misses some very nice destinations.

I convinced many times about the concept of solo travelling. From last few days as I have nothing to do, so i am watching videos at you-tube made by the foreign tourists about backpacking in India, reading a lot of travelling blogs. Few days back, when we went to Ajanta and Ellora, i spotted many tourists carrying thick book about travelling in India. The book was titled as Lonely planet. I have read the blogs and articles at their site and find them quite interesting and descriptive and helpful too. I enquired on flipkart, book was about 1200 bucks despite the discount of more than 500. I will order it sometime later in life, now I am just a student.

I believe travelling solo is really challenging and not that easy as it seems so. Budget will go up, you cannot roam around in night alone in new city, you have to care of all your luggage and you have to take a better hotel as compared to what you choose when you go with friends or with a group of bachelors. Not only this, you have to equipped yourself with complete information especially when you don’t have android mobile.

I have planned many times but was always taken aback. I am making a plan in a near future. Let see what happen this time.I am always impressed when i saw the people traveling alone. Indian, as far as my knowledge is concerned don't travel solo. But these days, trend is reversing.

Trip to Vaishnodevi and Patnitop

Somebody has really rightly said, if there is heaven somewhere on earth, it is in Kashmir.Although i didn't went there but i can imagine about the beauty of the Kashmir being at the Patnitop.

3rd January

We went to Vaishnodevi trip and luckily, we completed the Darshan timely on 3^rd January and had 2 full days at our disposal. We were expecting the snowfall at Vaishnodevi and Bhairov Baba but that didn’t happen. We made the program at this time of the year expecting snow inspite of huge resistance from the family. Generally, during the 1st week of January every year there is heavy snowfall and the roads get blocked or so. I thought that i can visit this place at this season only this time because presently i have a lot of free time and no pressure of job and all and still a bachelor. Later, i am sure there will always be issues to visit in January.

It was a big day. We reached Jammu at 5 in the morning. From there, we went to kathara and took the hotel for an hour and then start our journey of 14km. I was with a group of my cousin and they all were very fast, they all are from villages and practices Yoga and all regularly. I had face a lot of difficulties because of the same. I was like a bottleneck moving at the end of the trail. I was confused what made them so fast when we have a lot of time.

Trip to Ajanta and Ellora caves

Less than 50 days are left to enjoy the college life and we all want to do the full justice with that. Bearing that in mind, we again finalized the plan for a 2 day trip to Igatpuri, Nashik and Ajanta and Ellora caves. The place is hard to decide. There were many options being discussed like Goa, Gokarna, Gir fores but due to one or the other reason, all got cancelled. Strangely, all the places starts with ‘G.’ We were 8 people and booked a cab previous day.

11^th Feb’2012

We have decided to leave at around 4.30 from the college in Powai. We were successful and reached Igatpuri at around 7. After having our breakfast, we went straight to Vipassana Meditation center.

Sadly, it was closed that day and we were not allowed to enter beyond a certain point. After a brief session, we proceed to Nasik to visit one of the 12 Jyotirlinga of god Shiva. We were travelling on NH-3. Highways were superb and we travelled constantly at the speed of 90 because the tourist cabs are generally locked and you cannot increase the speed beyond 90.

At 9, we reach the Trimbakeshwar.It is a very famous place and associated with the origin of the Godavari river. After that , we decided to visit Panchavati, which is considered to very sacred place in Hindu religion. It is described in the epic Ramayana where Lord Rama built his home along with his wife Sita and brother Laxman. Nashik is a nice place and very muh similar to Haridwar in many respects. This picture made me think that it is very much like Haridwar. We have the river Ganga in Haridwar and Gangotri in Nashik. Both are religious cities with numerous temples and are also described in our epics.

At around 3, we left for the Aurangabad. It was 200 km. from there. We were almost exhausted when we reach Aurangabad and after booking a hotel, we had party. Aurangabad is famous for its non vegetarian food. We had the food at one of the Dhaba near bus stand and it was superb, cheap as well as satisfying.

12^th Feb’2012

We left early the next day for another Jyotilinga called Grishneshwar which is just at Ellora caves at around 8 in the morning. After visiting the temple, we had our breakfast. In the meantime, I purchased and read the Guide of Ajanta and Ellora caves. It is very important to read the guide as well as to have the guide if you really want to appreciate the caves and if you are very passionate then carry a small torch with you as well because inside caves, there are no lights. I saw many foreigners watching the painting and sculptures with their torch and we passed like we were roaming in the garden. But believe me; if you read well about the place, only then you will be really able to appreciate it.

Ellora caves are on NH-211 which is very superb and full of scenic beauties along it. Old forts along the roadside, broken tombstones will surely make you think about our cultures, our Rajas and Maharajas.

I have read a lot on the good travelling sites and blogs that it is almost impossible to cover Ajanta and Ellora in 1 day. But we have no other option. We have only one day. So, I would like to recommend one thing that if someone is running short of time, then there is no point in visiting all the caves in Ellora. Actually, there are many caves and only 2 are famous, 10 and 16. You will also get this information from the guide there.

From there we left at 11 am and reached Ajanta and 1 pm. Distance was around 110 km. and we covered it very fast despite small Tea-sutta-toilet breaks in between.

At Ajanta, govt. is very anxious to preserve the caves. Vehicles were not allowed near the caves. One has to park his car before 4 km. and need to catch a bus that runs on CNG to reach the caves. This is all done in order to prevent the pollution near the area. Pollution generally fades the colour of the painting and in Ajanta, there were many colored paintings left. Also, paintings were preserved using optical fiber lights.

Ajanta caves are in consecutive order till 26. Some are uncompleted.

Finally, at 7 in the evening we left the Ajanta caves. Mumbai was around 500 km. We reached the college at 4am. Although, we skipped many famous places in Aurangabad but still the trip was a memorable one. Looking forward for similar trip in future. The expenses were around 2400 per person.

The last kiss

Riya was leaving India in next few days. She was going to get married next year and settle in Australia for the rest of her life. She works in Accenture in Mumbai.

Saahil also works in Accenture in the same team as Riya. He liked Riya from the day 1 and Riya also told her the same day about her marriage. Perhaps, Riya knew about her magical hazy eyes well and knew their role in making people fall into love with her instantaneously. That is why, she told about her marriage as soon as they met.

They hang around for 3 months a lot. They become a good friends. Their relation is very submissive, each of them is ready to do anything for anybody. They watch movie together, shop together, roam together, bunk together. In few days, they became habitual of each other. The first thing every day that they do after reaching the office is to call other person and wait for him/her in the canteen for a breakfast. Riya talks about future husbands a lot and Saahil assists her decisions by helping her about what boys think generally. She chattered, dreamed continuously about her future life and Saahil listens like a dumb person.

Finally, a day had came for Riya to leave his hometown to Dehradun for her marriage. She invited Saahil for her marriage but both of them knew that Saahil will not come. They meet for the last time in the office canteen. Saahil forced her to drop to her hostel in his car. She at first resisted but later agreed.

Saahil- I never asked you anything in my life.

Riya- Yes, I Know.

Saahil- Neither any foolish formality like gifts exchange takes place between us.

Riya- Because we are very mature people.

Saahil- I want to kiss you so that I can remember you always. I know you are going to get married in next few days. Please don’t say no to me. I really want to make a personnel contact with you so that I can remember you always.

Riya- Are you crazy? What purpose doe……..

Saahil interrupted and kissed. That was one of the most beautiful kiss of their life without any lust and full of love. For the rest of journey none of them spoke to each other.

Both Saahil and Riya are happily married today but not with each other.

They have not talked to each other after that romantic evening but each of them blushes on the thought of that incident.

Another Love story ended without getting started

Recently, I went to a restaurant with my friends in Mumbai in Marine Kolaba.

A very sexy beautiful girl dressed beautifully perhaps in her most expensive dress starts looking at you like anything. You are also excited in one of your romantic moods by virtue of your company and other reasons. You are also single and ready to mingle. You starts drinking more and more. In order to impress her, you order the same brand that she had ordered and you are drinking by looking in her eyes. Your friends keep motivating you to talk to that girl. They convinced you that she is interested in you and you shouldn’t miss the chance this time. You remember the song, “Kabhi Ishq aur sharaab ko mila kar piyo” By Pankaj udhaas.

Suddenly, a boy who face looked like actor Prem Chopra and hair style like Gulshan Grover comes and hugged the girl you are staring at. The girl felt embarrassed and look towards you in a manner like that she didn’t know that boy but somehow you felt hurt. Now, your friends give the examples of the hit bollywood movies to motivate you but somehow you felt withdrawn.

Another Love story ends without beginning. This happened with somebody near. This happens with so many of us from time to time. Thanks to our friends.

An Art of Networking: An amateur attempt

In management, they talk so much about these PR skills and power of networking. By ‘they’, I mean professors and students. Even I fell into the trap, I read some of the papers of Harvard Business review and some of the small management tales about it but still I was not convinced. The crux of most of the papers was that whether you like it or not, one has to be good in the art of networking to be a successful manager. I am not convinced about it. Neither I am able to appreciate these papers. May be at some later stage in life, I will realize it. Right now, as a student, I think I am not in a position or well qualified to comment but still can put forward my opinion on the subject.

What is Networking?

In simple words, it is to use your contacts to get a favor. But one thing what I feel about all this is that when you take a favor for someone, then you also have to favor him later on in your life. And think, if the person simply ask for something impossible, how would say ‘No’ to them then.

There is a race among managers these days to increase their networks. One of the research paper, I was reading states that every new relation you make will decrease the strength of your current relations by 10%. To understand it better, if A and B share a very good relation with 100% bonding in them, then if anyone of them makes any new relation, then it will reduce their bonding to 90%. This is only a research paper. Exceptions are always there. But, I am convinced with this research paper.

Also, simply interacting with someone and making friend him on Facebook and following him on twitter will simply not add you in his network. It will give you only mentally satisfaction and I have seen that some of the relations survive till the time nobody asks the favor.

The only question I am confused about right now is that, ‘Are relations are different from networks?’

I see people in my batch who are always busy in collecting the business card of any personality visiting our college and then don’t share these visiting cards with anybody. Every interaction, every greeting smells of motive. I wonders what they expect from them. I have seen my friends talking irrelevant things with them. This happens when you want to talk but lack content. Perhaps, this is networking. I think what I need now is another course in networking techniques and all that. I also want to use my brain. Heart does not always work. Sometimes, I too feel that I should talk to more people in my batch but another reasoning that justifies my present state is that I have enough number of friends and contacts. There is no point in numbers but what matters is the bond between the relation whether it is ionic or covalent(O just remember some concepts studied once in chemistry, read them as strong and weak).

The joy of living in small cities

Can we imagine our life without Dominos, CCD, McDonalds and movies at PVRs?

I know it is very hard for a typical metro boy to answer.

Saahil lives in a Mumbai. He was going to his home in a small city. Travelling in train is one such thing which he really loves as it gives him a chance to introspect.

He reminisced his childhood days. On some occasion at his home when he was 7 years old, he met with some of relatives from Delhi, Mumbai. Never, they miss a chance to harass the people living in small towns. If he go to movie theatre with them, they comment on the seats. On road, unmanaged traffic. During power failure, on power problems. In restaurant, they start complaining about hygiene. He was very possessive about the city but never said anything, because he was so unsure of life in the metros during his childhood days.

But after spending few years in a metro, He feel like to live in a small city. Even in his city , dominos came, CCd also came. People say, it is developing but however, He don’t like these things. Too selfish of him, He didn’t want the development of his own city. But the truth is that, He don’t want it to be commercialized. Why he don’t want it to be industrialized. He perhaps don’t know the answer. Sometimes back, he thought how good it would be if his city was also commercialized and he lives in his home town while working. But due to lack of jobs, he moved out and now, he don’t want it to be industrialized. He fear that the city will lose its peace. If all this development like sky rocketed building, MNCs, chain of American restaurants came in this city, then he fear, where will go when he wants to escape from the real busy and stressful life of a metro. Whenever, he go to home and meet his some old friends, they planned a party at Dominos. But, he always resisted to go the Dominos of his city.

On reaching home, people living nearby became very excited. His cousins are also always excited about the life in the metro. The best thing is that Saahil never boasted that he now lives in a metro city. They give him a lot of respect. People living nearby also came and bombarded him with their own questions about big cities.

“What metros?“ Saahil said. “Have you ever think a day in the life of the people living in the metro? They hardly get any time for anything. They are so stressed out.”

People started looking at each other with blank faces.

He tried to cool them up and change the topic. He told them few days back, he spotted a Amitabh Bachan in Siddhi Vinayak Temple. Everybody became excited.

Later, he went on to the terrace and thought about his childhood days.

“Yahoooo, power chali gayi, Ab hum chat pe soyenge……”(Power cut, now we will sleep on the terrace)

He thought how excited he and his elder brother Samar became whenever there is a power cut. How he and his elder brother Samar looked at the Sky and try to count the stars, how hard they try to recognize the constellations that their science teacher told them about. Few days back, he get a chance to meet the Avantika malik, the love of the protagonist of the ‘Just mohabbat’, and the first childhood crush of he and his brother. But he no longer excited about her.

In small cities, life starts at 6 with a morning walk where people meet their friends and gossips. Then they have a tea with wife. After that, husband go to work and wife, if working, go to job else continue doing household chores. At lunch, they meet again. Mostly, there is teaching job for ladies only and none else. It is possible for ladies to cook the food after their day ends at work. Husband again went back to office and then came back in the late evening. Then assist the children in their homework and watched some television soaps together. They never thought of Audi and BMW, they are not very ambitious people and love their Nano.

In metros, life starts at 6. People wake up and get ready to catch an office bus at 7. At 9 , they reach office after spending 2 hours in traffic. During this time, some sleep deprived peoples catch some sleep, some readers take out their novels and some observers just watch out of the window for 2 hours and do nothing. They come back home by 9. If they have the energy left, made the food. Else ordered from outside. Enjoying in weekends, is a new trend, in metros. On weekends, there are different rules and prices in every restaurants, disc and PVRS.

In smaller cities, people generally don’t use this word ‘Weekend.’

He was watching the sky and lying on the bed. Perhaps, he had fallen asleep although his eyes were open.

Placement time -Part-1

Placement tine had finally come. I begun to feel that my journey in college is almost over. I had not write a post from long time, did not read something from a long time. It doesn't mean that I am doing very hard work for my placements but it is something always on the mind.

What will the HR ask?
Would they recruit me?
What happens if i didnt get placed and so on?
Will I get a job of my choice?
Will i get a competitive package?
What my friends will think if I I didnt make it it to a good company?
Would people think me dumb?

Such questions are really common and it is very hard to get rid of them.

But life is beyond getting placement. Sometimes, we hide the things from our friends in such an environment and didn't help them thinking they are the one with whom we compete. There are different arguments and perspectives to support this kind of thinking and everyone is entitled. Is this the competition? Competition is supposed to help us or create the divide. But, recently, i read a speech shared by someone on facebook and i was deeply effected by it. It says there are 4 balls in life. They are Health, Friends, Work, Family and we keep on juggling them. Work ball is made up of rubber and bounce back if fall but the rest 3 balls are made of glass, they get broken once missed. Just think accordingly and decide your priorities. I always prefer commitment over competency.

Everywhere and everybody just talks about the placements. It is bit difficult to maintain your calm in such an atmosphere. First of all, i would like to make a point is that everything that happen happens for a good reason. If any company is not recruiting you, it is for your benefit. There is no point in getting selected in the company whose level does not match with ours. What happened if we didn't perform there, we will be sack there and let them decide. Interviews are for checking the compatibility. For example, before getting married both interact a lot to check the compatibility. There is no point in getting what you didn't deserved because in that case it will not last for long.

Just believe on yourself.

Type of people one encounter generally in the typical local bar

I am not talking about those expensive bars like hardrock café, café Morrison or where the menu is itself a book. Instead, I am referring to small local places which people with higher frequency visits. Their frequency and capacity made it difficult for them to afford such exorbitant places located in the heart of the city. Such people like the places where they can enjoy the alcohol without worrying too much about the money. Crowd does not matter for them. What if girls don’t visit such places? What if the waiter brings your order 10 minutes late. What is a big deal in that. What if toilets are not that clean. You will get the value for the money and end up in saving your too little bank balance.

Let me describe some of the most interesting people you find often in the bar.

Frustu: Such people are found in abundance. They are good people and blessed with amazing sense of humor. Generally, their desperation towards some things irrespective of living or non living make them frustu. They crack jokes on them, waiter and everywhere present. They find it hard to say NO to the people and knowingly fall into traps. They are renamed as ‘Liquid’ in this modern day after inspiring from the movie ‘Pyar ka Panchnama.’ You are also one of them or happened to be once in your life if you are reading this post.
Friendly and distracted: These people always look at the other tables, order of other people. When you see them, they respond you with a smile. They will even offer you a cigarette. Such people generally find someone like them and begun to discuss things that mattered to none. They go on taking the phone no. of each other and promised to drink sometime together but next morning, they laugh on their stupidity and none of the party contacts the other one.
Lovers: Such people generally plays the music at their cell. They prefer silence and generally watched the TV at mute. They also share beautiful and sad Shera shayari few pegs down the line.
Boasters: Most of the time, such people drink much more than they can digest and ended up indigestion. They are the one who always say things like “yaar, bike mein chalaunga.” They repeat their achievements every time they drank. They are quite redundant in their approach. They always try to make sure that no one drink more than them on the table.
Beginners: They are very skeptical about such places. They stresses on the service and cleanliness of the place. They shoot queries regarding happy hours and all and told by the waiters that there is no such thing here. They asked the waiters for the recommendations before ordering the food and the waiters (generally of such places) shoots the arrows in the air without knowing anything. Such people, in the beginning, try to speak in English but seeing the response from the other side, came back to their home language.
Philosophers: They generally talks about the benefit of drinking. They kept on talking and talking and drinking and drinking. They quote second hand quotations and some third class haikus. They enjoy the alcohol to the fullest and pretend that they are they the most happiest persons on the earth.
Glutted one: They generally prefers the food more as compared to drink. With such people, you have to order a lot of snacks as they didn’t leave any dish to last longer and in tune with alcohol by their art of over eating. They are sometimes like pain in the ass for those who experienced and professional drinkers.
Experienced: They drink passionately and patiently enjoying every sip. They make sure about the 3 ‘D’ formula so that the bad effect of alcohol is minimized on their liver. 3 D refers to Delay, Dilute, Diet. This formula is self explanatory. They frequency is quite often but they never drink like a fish.
Submissive people: They never touch the menu and survive on the same things ordered by their friends. They generally have no particular taste and love everything. Sometimes, this quality disappoint you and sometimes, you don’t have any problem depending upon your mood.
All rounder: They play all the above roles and many other left unleashed depending on the company, mood and lot of other factors.

Perception about Beggars

Actually, this post is 2 years old and was getting older in my gmail draft folder. Accidentally, i found it and decided to give a life to it.

Few days back, I was travelling from Greenpark to Anand Vihar with my relatives in their car in Delhi.

We were waiting at one of the Red light when a beggar of age7,8 came near to us and my relatives started closing the windows of the car. I asked them what happened. They started lecturing me about these beggars for next to 5, 10 minutes. I was feeling very angry about the perception of the beggar by these people but I didn’t said anything.

They told me that once the beggar tried to stole the mobile car from their car.

“Had he stole something from your car?” I enquired.

“ Was he successful?” I asked curiously.

“No, actually, this incidence happened with one of my friend”. My relative replied looking towards his wife for approval.

“Yes, Yes. Beggar stole the mobile phone and vanished”. His wife said excitedly.

I thought , we Indians have habit of telling everything with more spice and imaginary things added to it. I want to add something but was taken aback by their perception about the beggars. They were reputed doctors. I thought we cannot generalize just because of one or two incidents. Even , I have read about many doctors in the newspaper who were involved in blood bank scandals and many other scandals. Some doctors were known to extend the stay of their patient in the hospital just to make the money, some just delay the treatment in order to make the money. But still, these all incidences does not shake my confidence on the doctors, a bit. It is not about doctors or beggars or profession, it is something related to the ethics of the person. There are cheaters, unethical and corrupt people everywhere but we cannot generalize all based on a few. Just like, we cannot blame the entire Muslim community just because some of the terrorists belong to this community.

I preferred the rest of journey in silence contemplating about the life of these beggars.
