Hey everyone! Here I am on a hike in Asheville, North Carolina! I love sniffing (and peeing, if I'm going to be honest about it) new locations! I really like North Carolina - lots of greenery and friendly people - lots of dog friendly places too. I had lunch with Mom & Dad the other day on the patio of a very nice restaurant - they brought me a bowl of fresh water and two treats - yum!

I am in Louisiana where finally people know what I am (by that, I mean breed) ~ a Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog. Yes, I am a mixed-breed (mutt), but it does seem as if I have some Catahoula in me, due to my (cute) looks and (awesome) personality.

Yes, yes, I know it's been a long time since I’ve posted ~ it is difficult when one doesn't have opposable thumbs!

My thoughts on South Dakota so far ~

Likes: the grass tastes good, I enjoy the sunshine, lots of cool sniffing to do
Dislikes: thunderstorms, thunderstorms, thunderstorms!!!!!!

We went on a cool hike the other day ~ Mom & Dad posted about it on their blog, but I just wanted to share a couple pictures. The top photo is me on the hike, which I really, really enjoyed and the bottom picture is me resting at the restaurant with my own bowl of water and some chicken piece that “accidentally” fell from Mom’s plate.

A HUGE Dog Park!!!!

WOW! Bear Creek Dog Park in Colorado Springs, Colorado is a fully enclose 25-acre dog park! Yes, you read right ~ 25 acres!! Mom & Dad took me here a quite honestly, I didn't know what to do with myself - all that room and not on leash - I was a bit overwhelmed. I soon got the hang of it, came when called (they had my most favorite treats!), and met some 4-legged friends. I had a great time and slept a lot the rest of the day!

I Visited the Humane Society in Colorado Springs, Colorado!

We were driving around yesterday and we came upon the Humane Society - it looked great (and I'm always pining for a friend, kitten or dog), so Mom & Dad went in. (I wasn't allowed - bummer!) First, let me answer he question on everyone's mind - no, I didn't get my own kitten or a new dog-friend. I asked and asked, and really looked cute and soulful, but it didn't work, But they did come back and report that it was a great facility - lots of cats and dogs ready for adoption so if you're in the area and need of some fur-love, ya know where to go!!

Hey there! It's been a while, I know - I've been very busy napping, chewing rawhides and going for walks. We've been heading to the agility course a few times a week, and I'm getting pretty darn good, if I say so myself. Here I am jumping the high bar. (Okay, well, it's not too high, but Dad doesn't want to have a broken leg vet bill after the recent root canal.) About time Mom remembered the camera!

Look! Here’s my tooth!

Well, yesterday started off like any other day……..breakfast, drink, a bit of play and belly rubs, and a walk. But while walking, my Dad noticed that my lower, left canine was looking funny – in fact, it was sticking out of my mouth! Next thing I know, I’m at the vet! Then I hear something about “too tough a job for him” and “doggie dentist!” No way! Then we’re back in the truck, and I was thinking, “Ahhh….they forgot about the doggie dentist and we’re going to the agility course,” but no! We went to the animal dental specialist. Now, I will say that everyone was real nice, but I did not enjoy my time there! Seems as if when I was tugging (probably Sunday morning), I broke my canine tooth.**

So next thing I know – it’s root canal time! Yes, you read right – a root canal! Now I don’t remember much, but I remember going to the back room with a nice woman, then waking up with my mouth hurting and my tongue in a weird spot, feeling funny like it didn’t fit in my mouth right anymore. Mom & Dad picked me up (and when they saw the bill – yikes! I had better be on my best, and I mean my absolutely best, behavior for the next day or so) and I got to go home that same day.

Today I feel much better – I ate my breakfast, drank a ton, and have been sleeping lots. I’m trying to look extra-special cute, even pathetic if possible (keeping in mind the bill), but I’m sure within a day or two I’ll be back to my old self, looking for a toy to destroy.

Oh, I did put my tooth under my pillow last night, but the tooth fairy did not seem to come……..

** A bit of history – when I was adopted by my current Mom & Dad, my teeth looked horrible. Now I know what happened, but of course I can’t articulate as much, but their theory (and that of the veterinarians they’ve asked over the years), is that in my previous home I was kenneled inappropriately and chewed on the wire kennel compulsively, causing some serious teeth damage, especially the back of my canines – both upper & lower. This has caused weakness in those teeth, thus the strange breakage.

No, I'm not conceited, but have you been reading this blog lately? I am great at TUNNELING, great at THE RAMP, and now getting better (I'll admit, not great yet) at JUMP!!! Now that we've found this agility course, I go a few times a week. Lucky, lucky me!!!

Here I am on THE RAMP! We went back to the fun agility course this morning and I had so much fun! I still enjoyed TUNNEL and even did some jumping (pictures of that another time) and now I am an expert on THE RAMP! I went up and down and up and down and up and down...... You get the idea! There are even more fun things there to learn as well - I overheard Mom & Dad saying that we'll go again this week - I cannot wait!!!!

I Am an Agility Dog!!

Oh yeah.... check me out! We went to a nearby RV park that has a whole section just for doggie fun and Mom & Dad to me on the agility course. Now I'm a newbie, but I LOVED the tunnel! I found treats in it, and when I bounded out, there were more treats! There was a promise of going back, maybe on Sunday, and I have goals - jumping over barriers, walking on a high platform, and more!

I Made A Friend!!

I made a friend at the dog park this morning! Unfortunately, I didn't get her name (but I did get her smell and she smells AWESOME!) - we ran, tugged, wrestled, teased, and played for a looong time! I took a long nap when I got home, just got up to change sleeping positions and to post this, and I'll be back asleep in a few minutes. Life is good!!

My Thunder Shirt

So I’ll be honest, even though this is a bit embarrassing – I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to loud noises, such as fireworks, thunder, and I’ll admit it – sneezes. I can get over the “sneeze scare” pretty well on my own, but the thunder & fireworks (oh, add gun shots to the mix) are just too much for me – I OBSESS over the noise for hours (yes, hours). It gets to the point where I just can’t help myself – I pant, drool, and shake uncontrollably.

Over the years, Mom & Dad have been pretty good about trying to help me through these episodes, and have tried various things. Finally, we found one thing that works, or at least alleviated the worst of it (the uncontrollable shaking) – it’s my Thunder Shirt. It’s basically like swaddling a baby – it wraps snuggly around my body and helps calm me, to the point where I can relax a bit. It works pretty quickly too – as soon as I get wrapped in it – ahhhhhh……

Now, I still freak-out a bit, but it helps for sure. So when we had a thunderstorm the other day, and when there were some loud noises last night, I got wrapped, and was able to make it through without too much panic.

By the way – I’m starting a petition to end all loud noises. Let me know if you want to sign it!
