Good morning Bloggerville fans. Zebee here. I have some sad for me news. Today will be my last visit here at “Zooprise Party / Fiesta Zoorpresa” blog. You might see me pop in around the web on other blogs, but this will be my last post here. I’ve had a lot of fun over these past two years talking with many of you, visiting with my boss Joy’s author friends and characters and going to zoos around the world. All good things come to an end, and this is it for us here at the V Zoo.

So, with all that said, let’s see what happened this week at the world zoos.

Best Christmas Story Ever!

Star: I say it's "The Night Before Christmas."

Billy: No it's "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer."

Mori: My favorite is "Little Drummer Boy."

Zebee: What's all this arguing about? Can't you see we're live in Bloggerville. We don't wnat the folks out there thinking we fight. Tell me what the problem is.

Lito: We were talking about Christmas stories that our boss Joy and her friends have read to us. Everyone of us has a favorite and that's what we were fighting, uh, discussing. Which one is the best Christmas story ever.

Zebee: I see, well I vote for "Frosty The Snowman."

Lito: See, we all like different ones. I wonder which one our friends out there in Bloggerville like best? Maybe they can tell us. I say let's do a survey.

Billy: Yeah, I like that idea. Then all of you will see that "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" is the best ever.

The Lighting of the Tree at the V Zoo Party 2009

Good morning, Zebee here. Boy! Did we have a great tree lighting party! So many of my boss Joy’s author friends came it was amazing. Many of them brought along their characters too. Let’s see how many we can remember.

Elysabeth Eldering came. She brought along Matt, Guy and Mary Beth, her Junior Geography detectives. They were searching for clues for one of her books.

Lea Schizas was there. Bubba and Giganto were with her. They sure are nice boys and good soccer players. We had a game between the story characters and all of us here at the V Zoo. We lost, but we vowed to have a rematch next year and win. We need a coach. Any volunteers?

Oh, and Bill Kirk came and brought along Ari. We all watched were we stepped so we wouldn’t crush him. He’s really a cool spider.

When Vivian Zabel arrived with Buddy, some of the characters wanted him to teach them how to rope Prairie dogs. Since the closest thing we have to that here at the V Zoo are the meerkats, that just wouldn’t work. Instead he showed them how to rope a fence poll.

Che Dee was there with Odo, the time children, Mashu, Cassie and the Tulies.

Mary Jean Kelso brought along Andy and Spirit. Spirit is a beautiful horse and Andy is amazing the way he can ride.

Dayna Hilton and Sparkles came. Sparkles had us all on our knees again. This time even I could do it. I’ve been practicing.

Rachelle Burk was there with Kenny and Allison. We all wanted to hear about living in a tree house. I’d like to climb up in a tree house someday.

Rena Jones and Dilly came. So did Shari Lyle-Soffe along with Aaron and Horace. Mayra Calvani and Humberto read us some of Humberto’s favorite books. Hugo also showed up with Elizabeth Dulemba with soap for everyone.

I’m sure I forgot some of the authors and their characters. The place was packed and we had a fun time.

Who got to put the star on top of the tree this year? Billy. He climbed up Star’s neck and placed it, very carefully, on the top branch.
Got to go, I need to finish making my gifts. We are all making things for each other this year.

Book Review: The Christmas Angel by Mary Jean Kelso

Good morning book fans, Zebee and the gang here today. When our boss Joy read this story to us, we all wanted to go on our own adventure across the country. But more on that later. First let’s read what Joy has to say about the story.

* * * * * Melissa and her family were setting off on a great adventure to move from Philadelphia to Oregon. The trip would be long and hard. Each family member can bring one special possession along. Melissa’s most precious possession was a Christmas angel her father brought her from England. She packed it very carefully and hoped that it would make the trip unbroken.

Mary Jean has opened the trails of the Oregon Trail to the young reader this time. K.C. Snider’s art gives the reader a feel for what pioneers of the day went through.

At the end of the book there are several pages of information, websites and activities you can engage in to learn more about this part of American history.

* * * * * So, back to what I was saying, we all want to go on our own adventure across America. Here are a few of the places some of us want to visit:

Mori: I want to see the Sequoia National Forest in California. Those trees are amazing.

Lito: I’d like to visit the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest out in Arizona. I just think they’re cool.

Elvis: I want to take my family to see the Grand Tetons. There we could fly free, until we wanted to come home, of course.

Star: I want to visit the Empire State Building. Is it really taller than me?

Belinda: I want to visit my cousins over in Yosemite National Park. They say they get the best picnic foods. You know, my grandparents walked through our boss Joy’s campsite back when she was a little girl. But that’s a story for another time.

Getting Ready For This Year's Tree Lighting Ceremony

Good morning to you all. Zebee here. To get you in the mood for Christmas this year, this is a picture of the central plaza in Caguas, Puerto Rico last year. Is'nt that one of the prettiest trees you've ever seen?

Okay, as some of you might remember, last year at our tree lighting ceremony we had a few mishaps. Don't remember? You can read about it here. So, to avoid the same problems, my boss Joy has taken a few precautions.

To place the star on the top of the tree, this year we are drawing out of a hat. The paper that has a star on it will get the honors. Next will be a paper with a Christmas tree light on it. That animal will get to turn on the lights. This will avoid the two biggest problems from last year.

Who's on the guest list this year? All of our boss Joy's wiriter friends and a few of the characters from their books. I think it's going to be lots of fun. We've all heard the stories and m=now we're going to get to meet everybody.

It will be a big party this year. Do you want to come? Just drop me a comment and I'll put in a good word for your invitation to my boss Joy.

Book Review: My Grandmother's Kitchen Rules by Bill Kirk

Good Thursday everyone, Zebee here. When my boss Joy said that today's book was written by Bill Kirk, I got excited. I really like his book "There's a Spider in My Sink" that she read to us a while back. So, let's see what she has to say about this book of Bill's.

* * * * *

Today’s book is a cute rhyming story about a young girl and her grandmother. Grandma loves all the things in nature that her granddaughter brings home, with one exception. Ants! Read along as all kinds of creatures and discoveries are brought home. See what happens when ants are introduced and the problems they bring with them. Do they get rid of them, if so, how? I'm not telling, you have to read this wonderful story to find out!

The illustrations in this charming story capture your attention and bring the rhyme to life. Lots of color and fun borders on each page bring you into the story.

At the end of the story there are six pages of factoids, activities, games and a list of websites where you can go to learn more about ants.

Bill has once again combined a fun rhyming story with science.

I think the thing I learned that really surprised me was the fact that if you collected all the ants in the world (that would be 10 QUADRILLION!!!) they would weigh as much as all the people in the world! That's a lot of ants.

It's December 1st!!!

Good morning everyone! Zebee here. This is just a quick note today. See, my boss Joy has this tradition. December 1st is Christmas decorating day.

We here at the V Zoo all join in the fun. We will help decorate our enclosures. The giraffes will help string lights and garlands at the highest points, Billy and his mom are in charge of the popcorn and cranberry stringing, Elvis is in charge of adding the lights and I am going to somehow put the angel on top of the tree. Want to see her?

Isn't she pretty? My boss Joy made her years ago when Rebekha was a baby.

Anyway, then, after all the decorations are up, we help bake fudge, cookies and sing Christmas carols.

So, what do you do at your home to get ready for the holidays? I'd love to hear from you. Sharing family traditions is fun.

Zoo News Sunday: Christmas at the Zoo

Good chilly morning to all, Zebee here. My boss Joy says that Florida is cold, or at least colder than she remembered for this time of year. She's bundled up and, well, that's not why I'm here.

Book Review: Triangle Top, The Tale of a Troubled Tribe by Mark Johnson

Good Thursday morning to you all. Zebee here with another really great book. When my boss Joy read this one to us, we all thought back to when we had Mori’s surprise birthday party. Without all of us helping out, the party wouldn’t have happened. Anyway, let me get out of the way so Joy can tell you about “Triangle Top, The Tale of a Troubled Tribe.”

* * * * * Welcome to the world of the Trylicans. They live in a “tremendous triangular territory known as Triangle Top.” And so begins their adventure. All the Trylicans treasured the tasty treat called trumples and would do anything to get them. In order to get the tasty trumples, they had to work together, which they did beautifully. In their journey to find trumples, Travis the Twebble came across a problem. To get the trumples ahead, they would need to cross some very troubling terrain if they couldn’t turn everyone around. Were the Twebbles able to turn the rest of the tribe around? Did they find more trumples? You’ll find out when you pick up your copy of “Triangle Top, The Tale of a Troubled Tribe.”

Mark Johnson has used the letter “T” and cleverly woven a fun tale about cooperation. Without all parts working towards a common goal, the results might be disastrous. Add in the creative imagination of Christina Rodriguez and her incredible illustrations and you have a book children will truly enjoy. The lesson learned is one they will use throughout their lives.

Book Review: Humberto, the Bookworm Hamster by Mayra Calvani

Good morning book fans. Zebee and the whole gang here. It’s book review Thursday at the V Zoo, and you know what that means. Right! We have another great book to share with you today. Let’s get right to it. Here’s my boss Joy’s review.

* * * * *

Humberto loves to read. He read all the time no matter what he was doing. He could eat, brush his teeth, cook and go for a walk and read at the same time. He even listened to audio books while he slept.

The only time he couldn’t read was when he exercised on his wheel. Then he’d think about the books he’d read and become a part of the story.
Humberto was very busy reading. He had no time for his friends. He wanted to read all the good books ever written. His neighbors would invite him to play, but Humberto always had a book he had to read.

Book Review: Soap, Soap, Soap by Elizabeth Dulemba

Good book review day Bloggerville fans! Zebee here with a really fun book for you. Here's my boss Joy with her take on the book.

Today is all about soap or jabón. Writer and illustrator Elizabeth Dulemba has written a fun filled bilingual story about Hugo, a young boy. His mamá sends him to the store to buy soap or jabón. Follow Hugo's adventure to the store and see who he meets along the way. Watch out, or you might end up needing a bath by the end of the story.

Elizabeth's illustrations are amazing. Her style really makes you feel like you are running right along side Hugo during his adventure. This is Elizabeth's first book that she both wrote the story and did the illustration. She has done a wonderful job weaving a cute story and illustrations together. All young children will enjoy this book.

Billy: What's a Cliché?

Lito: It's a saying that people use too much so it loses the meaning it originally had.

Mori: My favorite is "An apple a day keeps the doctor away."

Billy: Oh, I get it. It's like "he's got ants in his pants" right?

Lito: That's a good one. Does your mom say that about you Billy when you start running all around your exhibit? I like "as easy as pie."

Billy: Ha, ha, ha.

Good morning everyone in Bloggerville. Zebee here. So, did you put your clocks back in you’re in the U.S.? Oh, did you have fun last night trick-or-treating? My boss Joy dressed up for work as “The Fairy godmother of the Sea Creatures.” Here’s a picture of the mask she made herself. Do you like it?

Book Review: Andy and Spirit in the Big Rescue by Mary Jean Kelso

It's Thursday her at the v Zoo, and that means it's book review time. Hello everyone, Zebee here. Let's see what my boss Joy is going to read to us today.

"Andy and Spirit in the Big Rescue" by Mary Jean Kelso

This week’s story is the third in the Andy and Sprit stories. Once again Andy and Spirit show what a great team they make.

We are back at the State Fair. It’s the day after Andy won the ‘Grand Champion’ ribbon in the 4-H riding competition. He and his mom have stayed over to see the rest of the fair and see how the other 4-H clubs do in their competitions.

Tracy, Spirit’s owner, has promised a ride around the tents to show Andy all the 4-H animals and the rest of the livestock that’s at the fair. When they arrive at the rodeo arena, Andy is watching a girl practicing barrel racing when suddenly one of the bulls breaks down the gate to his pen. The bull races after the girl and her horse then takes off out of the arena chasing Spirit, Andy and Tracy. When they reach the barn, the bull and Billy (the school bully) enter it at the same time. Will Billy be hurt? Will Spirit be hurt? See what happens and how Andy and Spirit save the day.

Mary Jean has once again done a wonderful job portraying the love between horse and boy. Her imagery brings you to the fair and makes you feel like you’re riding with Andy. K.C.’s illustrations show you all the action in this thrilling story.

Well, I don't know about you, but I really liked this book. Mary Jean sure has a way with all things horses.
