In 1803 Wilhelm Mülhens entered into a contract with an unrelated person from Italy named Carlo Francesco Farina who granted him the right to use his family name and Mühlens opened a small factory at Cologne's Glockengasse. In later years and after various court battles his grandson Ferdinand Mülhens had to abandon the name Farina for the company and their product. He decided to use the house number given to the factory at Glockengasse during French occupation in the early 19th century, 4711. Today, original Eau de Cologne is still produced in Cologne by both the Farina family, currently in the eighth generation, and by Mäurer & Wirtz who bought the 4711 brand in 2006.

See the red light? Guess where is this place. Nope, you are wrong! It is nor a night club neither a hair saloon. Apotheke means pharmacy, or dispensary for some of private clinics in Germany. This is a famous place for a student like me (2006-2010) during flu and fever season. Flu during winter and fever at early spring time. The Hay Fever or Allergic Rhinitis to be exact. Instead of paracetamol, Aspirin would be the favorite option to reduce fever. No bitter taste at all. Anyway do you know that Aspirin was founded in Germany? I have attached links in my post. Feel free to absorb the information. It is good for your general knowledge, at least. Cheers!

Hi Guys/Lads,

I just want to share my visits to Prague 3-4years back (Senile...Old me.Hehe). Ahhh pictures here worth a thousand words. So do I need to continue to write this post anymore? Ok dude, I will just highlight certain points that might be useful for you if you plan to visit this place in near future.

Transportation

Train, tram and bus are very common in Europe. In Prague these transport still from my POV in classic form. You know what I mean. But regardless the age and antiques form, the main thing is their on-time schedule. You can check the schedule on their website as well. Normally that's what I do to check the schedule and plan my awesome trip. Jot down or print out the selected arrival/departure time for your tram/train/bus, so that you segregate your visit time between places. Oh another tip is, try to buy group day ticket (normally 5 person/group) when you plan to utilize their public transportation frequently for the whole day.

Accomodation

Rich visitor - There are a lot of hotels that you can choose to stay. Check Hotelclub.
Budget visitor - Hostel or Bed and Breakfast (B&B) should be your searching criteria. Check Hostelworld.
SUPER Budget visitor - Get along with students/professional from your own country (i.e. Malaysian student/expatriate) and go overnight at their places. Hehehe.

Food

For Muslim - There are a lot of kebab house/restaurant for you to dine in. In shaa Allah Halal. Otherwise search for vegetarian pizza such as mozzarella, tuna or seafood variety as an option.
For non-Muslim - No issue. Try Schnitzels, Strudels or Goulashes.

Masa aku datang dulu tengah musim sejuk. Memang mencabar nak keluar jalan-jalan masa tu. Kena pula angin sepoi-sepoi matematik tiup, memang cukup membekukan bibir dengan hidung. Tapi oleh kerana tiket ke Prague masa tu paling murah, redah saja. Mujur kawan-kawan jurusan perubatan ada yang mengenali. Mereka yang bagi tumpang rumah, bawa jalan-jalan. Terharu habaq ang. Peristiwa yang paling tak boleh lupa ialah apabila tertinggal keretapi balik ke Jerman. Terpaksa beli menginap lagi satu malam di sana, namun syukur kerana tak perlu beli tiket baru. Haaa..itu untungnya kalau kita beli TIKET TERBUKA (Open Ticket). Boleh pilih masa bila nak balik. Sila bawa kad UNO di dalam tren kerana masa perjalanan yang agak lama akan menghambarkan suasana sekiranya tiada unsur-unsur hiburan bersama rakan. Hehe

New Year 2010 at Rosenheim, Bavaria, Germany.

Back To The Future blog post series. Guys, your date and time is correct. No need to adjust. It just that my entry is not in the right time to be published. I don't care. Posting New Year Celebration (NYC) story end of December or early January is too mainstream. HEHE. So this is my artwork during NYC 2010 at Rosenheim, Bavaria. It was my first attempt for so called Light Trail Photography. Ah what a creative me. LOL.

Oh the main agenda that I want to share with you is the permission to play fire crackers on your own during the new year night. In Germany, you are allowed to play whatever type of fire crackers just only that night. It would be like a war game because everybody has their own sets of fire crackers, I mean the big one, normally used by big and rich entity to celebrate whatever celebration they have. Oh by the way, you can buy this danger-but-fun fire crackers at normal groceries supermarket such as Lidl, Norma, Plus, Aldi etc etc.

Firework for Amatuer

Pecah duit tabung, keluar pergi beli bunga api besar-besar dekat pasaraya terdekat. Minimum 1 set berharga 20Euro untuk bunga api yang hasilnya sangat menawan. Di Malaysia punyalah sorok-sorok beli, di Germany dengan muka selamba sambil makan ais krim sebelah tangan jalan berlenggang depan orang ramai sambil pikul stok bunga api yang bakal di korban kan malam perayaan tahun baru tersebut. Mereka (saudara-saudara Jerman) sangat kreatif dalam pertarungan bunga api. Pelancaran roket tidak hanya tertumpu ke arah atas sahaja, namun arah horizontal menghala ke pasukan lain juga menjadi pilihan hati. Kadang kala rumah orang atau pun kedai menjadi mangsa roket berkenaan dan pihak polis dan bomba sudah maklum yang mereka harus kerja lebih masa pada malam tersebut untuk menyelesaikan isu memadam api dan juga rungutan tuan rumah kepada geng pelancar roket.

Stadt Essen

The Essen city. Located near Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Krefeld. Essen means eat or makan.
But it does not mean that it got its name because the people in there love to eat, or eat a lot of food or etc etc. This city is quite bigger compare to Krefeld. The best activity that you can do here, shopping while jogging. Awesome! Pictures show Essen during winter.

Ok cukup dengan ayat skema English. Sebenarnya Essen ni antara Hotspot student-student kerana setiap hujung minggu ada Flee Markt. Kat sana boleh beli barang-barang dengan harga yang murah, contohnya makanan seperti coklat, yogurt, jajan-jajan. Di Flee Markt @ Flohmarkt ni juga ada menjual barang-barang lusuh atau antik. Kalau bernasib baik anda dapat membeli set pinggan terpakai Villeroy & Boch pada harga yang sangat murah. Tak dilupakan juga kalau dah musim menukar perabot, kami ramai-ramai akan melawat IKEA ESSEN dan memastikan pulang bersama buah tangan dari sana.

Whoever went to Germany, they are familiar with this shopping complex, named Galeria Kaufhof.

In Malaysia we have a lot of big shopping complex, I mean large numbers of shopping complex that we can choose to fulfill our monthly or even weekly must-do schedule--> window shopping, hang out @ lepak, searching for good restaurant/fast food, or even do not know what to do in there. While in Germany, the so called big shopping complex is very limited.

The best time to shop in Germany is during the festive time, season changing time, where you can get real discount for many good stuff i.e. clothing, household, perfume etc etc etc. A good tip, if you want to buy new winter jacket, buy it at the end of current winter season and wear it during next winter season. Understood???!! Ah, my wordings, headache! Hehe.

Diskaun dia memang tak masuk akal kadang-kadang. Contoh, baju dari 60euro jadi 10euro je. Siapa tak mau rembat. Perfume dari 50euro dapat 30euro. Memang beli buat stok untuk bawa balik bagi family di Malaysia. Diskaun mereka memang benar layaknya penggunaan perkataan diskaun itu,. Cuma aku kecewa kalau diskaun di Malaysia ada kalanya di manipulasi dengan kenaikan harga barang tersebut. Harga hari biasa RM50. Suatu hari bagi diskaun 20%, tapi harga ketika itu RM75. Jadi akhirnya bayar RM50 jugak. Maaf kalau ada yang tidak bersetuju dengan pendapat aku.

Oh ya, aku cuba menggayakan penggunaan perkataan baku supaya siapa-siapa hendak menggunakan google translate akan mendapat hasil yang lebih jitu, juga memartabatkan bahasa kita. Cewah!

Chooo Choooo!!

No, sorry guys. It will not sound like that. It is an electric tram on the street.
This is the classic model which I think had been used since 80s. Smart though. Old me.

Tram 041 heading from Krefeld to Düsseldorf. It takes about 50 minutes to get there with this oldschool-vintage-but-fast tram.

I believe the new futuristic style trams already replaced these oldies. The new design comes with lower floor, meaning that you do not require to climb the stairs to get in anymore. It is a disadvantage for fit-handsome-and-onepaxed guy like me to loose a way of exercise. Pity me.

Tram ni tak semestinya antara bandar. Selalunya di gunakan untuk lingkungan dalam bandar itu sendiri. Kadang-kadang di ceruk-ceruk kampung pun ada stesyen tram. Ada yang stesyen atas tanah, ada yang bawah tanah, ada juga jenis atas angin. Hang jang tak percaya! Sila google tram di Wuppertal. Rajin la sikit menaip tu. Dah pegi google sekarang!

Guys,

Lebkuchen is an awesome traditional big cookies during Christmas time in Germany.
It tastes a bit like gingerbread plus the icing. I'm not a big fan for this monster size cookies, but I like how they decorate the cookies. Oldies.

Dulu aku beli pun sebab nak ambil gambar je. Makan sikit, namun tiada ku rasakan bibit-bibit kesedapan di situ. Makan biskut Merrie cecah Old Town White Cafe Hazelnut lagi umphh!

Here was my second hometown, Krefeld, Germany. Picture taken during winter 2007.
Weihnachtsmarkt or winter market or pasar malam musim salju is a place where you can find Christmast related accessories, foods, gifts and a very nice place to hangout with friends after class/working hours. There are open mostly starting end of November or early December every year. Each town in Germany has their own Weihnachtsmarkt.

Jangan harap nak lepak lama-lama time sejuk-sejuk kat sini. Balik rumah, on heater, sarung comforter, tengok movie, lagi layan. Kalau dah kulit asia tenggara tu, faham-faham je la. Hehehe
