The Novel Synopsis
The story is about a Michelin starred chef and his successful career in France, Richard Stratton and his decision to leave everything behind to return home to Canada and build his own dream from the ground up.

He opens his upscale restaurant in the historic cobblestone streets of Ottawa’s ByWard Market, all of Richard’s plans seem to be falling into place until a chance encounter with Nikki Barnum, an old romance from his past. Her reappearance in his life is a sad reminder that things never ended properly between them, although now she has a life of her own – a husband, children and a prominent position.

The story journeys through deceit, greed and ill will and at the same time romance.

About The Author
R. Christopher Christie’s debut novel, The Broken Path, is written through the experienced eyes, mind and hands of an active professional chef.

He is the opening Executive Chef for Marina Bay Sands here in Singapore and has held similar positions with Ritz-Carlton and Shangri-La around the world, from Atlanta to Hong Kong, Shanghai and Seoul. A native of Canada, Christopher currently lives in Singapore with his daughter and maintains Hong Kong Permanent Resident status.

My Thoughts?
So…what did I think of the book? It’s been a while since I read a book of fiction…or any book for that matter that wasn’t photography based and I enjoyed the storyline. I love a good biography and to me it read like one for the first quarter of the book – in fact, I had to check to see if it was based in reality or a piece of fiction once I had started reading. I walked away knowing a little bit more about the restaurant industry, including the pains people can go through. And of course, without wanting to spoil the read – who doesn’t like a happy ending!

By the way, I just read on Christopher’s Facebook page that The Broken Path is now available in Singapore at Kinokuniya and Popular bookstores as well as Bookazine in Hong Kong.

Featuring Sage Dakota, a 17 year old student is also a part time model in her spare time. For this shoot, we were after something casual and relaxed in the look and feel. The formal shot to come soon!

And what a night it was. Cynthia Lee MacQuarrie, Juwanda Hassim (aka The Fabulous Baker Boy) and Koh Jia Ling (of Wine & Dine) and myself sat on a table of four and tasted many a delectable dish! Maybe ‘many’ is an understatement! As the food started to arrive, we began to think twice about the selection we had ordered…here’s what arrived on our table:

There was definately something for everyone! Ummm, do you think we went overboard???!!! We rolled home…and happily!!! Thanks Bistecca (everyone there was most welcoming) for a wonderful night in…we highly recommend this place!!! I know I’ll be bringing my friends over for a visit and soon

The Synopsis
Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington headline “Safe House”, where ex-CIA guys go bad and the newish CIA guys are good.

Ryan plays Matt Weston, a bored CIA guy in charge of a safe house in Cape Town, South Africa. Denzel, plays Tobin Frost, shows up, bringing along action, car chases and all the rest of the drama. The two enemies must team up to survive, while the CIA attempts to locate them. There’s great acting by the leads (as one would expect), the storyline though is nothing out of the ordinary – if you are one (like me) who watches all the ‘spy’ type movies. My feeling was – if they’d changed the last 10 minutes…we’d be expecting Part 2!
