Sd Gyan - bling tests

This is one of projects for 2012 Mecha Contest, this is gonna be just a simple OOB Painted. Wasn't going to do anything in that category BUT my litlle brother asked me to paint it for him so here we go.

I started with the gold shoulder pad as I wanted to try out Vallejo Model Color Gold that i got from my GF.

first let's have a look at the plastic color for comparison

ugly yellowish gold wannabe, That just HAD to go. so i began, after doing a few minis and reading/watching a LOT of painting related stuff i decided to do it a bit diffrently this time

First i painted the whole piece in metalic brown

To tell you the truth i realy like it just like that but that wasn't the end,
After that i was care fully painting it with vallejo gold, but i left the deepest / darkest areas untouched

After that I did highlighting with Gold to make certain areas "pop" more - i mean edges, and top most parts that i wanted to shine a bit more

Next step was to make a diffrence between "layers" of armor just to make it a little bit more interesting.
I just used tamiya semigloss black mixedwith future to get a kind of wash/filter / transparent smoke/

That's all that has been done so far, next will be the blade and all of those little ornaments.

I was thinking about making a year summary... But it would not be a good idea. Seeing how many of my projects has been completed. I'd say it was the worst year for me - modeling wise. But it would be a lie because i started doing minis and i like to think my skills are getting better. I hope.
I have "plans" for this year but i will not say anything. Only thing i can say is there shiuld be some Wips after i'm done with exams.
Also i started second blog zn40k.blogspot.com for my minis, but dont worry i will feature them here as well.
Anyway, it's been emotional and i hope it will stay that way ;)

Black Templars Sword Brethren

Quite a while since last post, but let's not dwell why such a long break. Here is my latest work wich as you see another warhammer 40K mini. This is one of the figs i got from Decay. The painted ones are awesome and i was afraid to do them in the same colours i would most definitly fail.

So I went with the trademark black of the Templars with some red to help this little fella stand out a bit.
Also added a coin in the dio to show the scale a bit better ;)

Mopping up the streets [WIP-1]

So far it's a good week for me, got a certain package that made me VERY happy, you can read more about it HERE .

But let me show you what i'm working on, but don't worry i'm also getting closer to finishing Freedom Strike. It's just that lately i don't have as much time as I had wich complicates a LOT. Ok, this isn't blog created for me to whine, so let's procced to main event of this post:

Just a little Dio i'm working on, as the name suggest there will be a team of Space Marines getting rid of some enemies, Marines will be painted as 6th Company of Ultramarines Chapter

That's just the basic shape, hopefully it will look good when finished :D

This is also first time for me to do mods on figures:
First thing is very small but you gotta start somehere - I modded one of the bolters in to Combi-Melta Gun, here is a comparison picture:

Hopefully it will look acceptable when painted.

Alredy started painting first of the five marines in my team:

Still some work needed, but I think it's going in the right direction.

Imperial Fists Captain

Next mini finished this time a Space Marine Captian painted in Imperial Fists Chapter colors.

To tell you the truth that one was quite tricky, why? 'Cause it's one of figs i bought "used" from auction site, and it had a small problem - it was alredy undercoated with white paint. That's nothing bad you may think, and it isn't - the Champion I painted before was also undercoated, BUT this time somebody did quite a sloppy job on it, many details were lost, many bubbles in paint. In the end - I'm was not impressed at all.

I did try to wash it of but my usual washing mixture proved to be to strong for Games Workshop plastic - fig started to melt in few places (and i broke the sword) after some repairs and waiting i decided to just go and paint it anyway. here is the result:

Somethig diffrent this time, this little fella kept me ocupied last few weeks, pretty much OOB but i made the beard myself as a tribute to my friend Aries - he looks very similar.

Nothing much more to say, other than the fact i realy enjoyed working on it and it's definitly not the last one :D But don't worry - i don't plan to stop doing gunpla.

After announcing ZAKU GB it's time to work like crazy on this to finish it before GB... or at least finish something this year...

For now I finished.... a leg. Yes that's all, only a leg, not even a feet to go with it, just a leg. So next is making another one cause you know, I can't recast things (due to lack of resoures) and even if I could my re-casts would never be as good as those made by Helmos ;)
And as much as I think that one-leged MS is a 'unique' idea I don't think it would work with FS.

Some parts of the leg still need clean-up - mainly the inner frame but armors could use some work too.
But here is what i've done:

As you can see a lot of armor triming, Also I added small pla-plate strips to underside of the lower ends of the parts so instead of going on like this: | they go like this: / - hopefully at least one person will understant what I mean. It changes the overall shape slightly. Not sure if you noticed but there is a little bit of scribing done.
My dymo tape arrived so I tried using that and as much as I love it I still find myslef doing lot of smaller lines freehand. I will be using dymo tape for long stright lines but for those small ones a steady hand is enough.

Nothing much more to say as this isn't rocket science. Instead I will just show a few more pictures

[Freedom Strike] Failure?

Hello everyone!

Just as the post title says this project has been complete failure- if look at it as an EUGC entry that is. As we all know and experience from time to time life is a bitch, can't realy do much about it. You just have to live your life.

Anyway enough with the "deep" stuff. let's talk modeling. But first in case you didn't notice i had changed the look of the blog a little.... weel actualy i changed it a lot, not only it looks more profesional (at least IMO) but it loads a lot faster wich is always a good thing.

Now for the update itself:

Started some works on the legs, mainly some armor trimimg:

Personaly I realy like frames of SEED MG kits and I want to show it off a little better

I have also started pla plating - only today cause my extra thin cement just arrived, here is what i've got so far, you may get the idea where this is going next the lower legs,

more trimming and mods to show off the inner frame

and of course you can see the extension wich took me most of my time, pretty simple, just cut the parts, insert pla-plates, wait for cure, use putty to fill the gaps and sculpt the shape i want, still needs work and detailing but i just wanted to an update so please forgive me guys

[Freedom Strike] - Winged beast

Hi!

Overall progress is good, but not as fast as I would like it to, but I only need few hours of work more (not including cement dry time) to finish entire backpack wich makes me quite happy.

Scribing is done, and that took most of my time, i do like scribing but i hate repeating the same thing over and over again.... anyway here are the results:

I still need to add some pla-plates here and there and finish the side wings, in the mean time i got an idea what to do with the backpack, still need to finish it but here is the overall shape;

not a big update, but i think i will have something better to show at the end of the weekend.

[Freedom Strike] - recap

Time for some updates!

I'm not entirly sure what I showed last time so in this update I will try to show evrything done on freedom strike, altough I.m pretty sure I showed how I mounted the backpack so will skip that.

It definitly feels nice to work on a bigger kit for a change, more room, more posibilities, more mistakes... errr nevermind that last one.

First let me show you the chest piece, did some detailing on it:

I still think about adding some more to it but on the other hand, time is runing out so we will see about that.
Next is the head, still needs some panel lines and few details but I do like the overall shape

Next up are weapons - modified gun - gotta say i'm quite happy with that one, and new shield wich still needs work but I will get to that eventualy

Just to show a little size comparison:

You may be able to notice barrels at the end of new shiled. I don't know why but I do like the concpet of making shield on offense-defense weapon instead of just defense.

One thing I don't really like about MG Freedom are railguns in the sideskirts, they are a too big for my taste, so they had to go.

I still want to have this guy look somewhat similar to Freedom, and we all know that his Baleena Plasma Cannons stored in the wings are one of his signature weapons, but since I used them to make new shield I came up with something just a little diffrent:

Definitly like that. Still needs work tough, but I hope to be able to finish the wings tonight. "A whole night just to finish those cannons?!" - you may think, BUT that's not the only thing i have planned for wings. I had alredy did quite a lot of scribing here you have a comparison of before and after:

I had filled the line with normal black marker so you can see it better.

There will be some more plating going on there but that I will do tonight. If u are a carefull reader you might noticed a maroon colored part in one of the pictures above, yes they do come from Throne Drei and yes I am going to use them on Freedom strike. How? Well I've seen a lot of good modelers moding the sides of main wings to look like they are open, usualy that involved cutting parts from another MG Freedom, But here is what I'm gonna do:

It may look a little bit funky right now but wiat till it's done ;)

Spectre Strike COMPLETED

Spectre has been finalyy completed :D

And now as usual a little bit of a backstory....

Spectre - a ghost from the Bloody Valentine, only Mobile Suit left for OMNI remnants, originaly 3rd unit of Strike Noir later upgraded by Aktaion industries to bring closer the goals of Phantom Pain, to eradicate all spacenoids. Now chased by ZAFT special forces, hiding in base located in Atacama dessert waiting for repairs and mainetance...

[ALERT ALERT]
Suprise attack on the base, no time to finish rearming or reapirs, Spectre launches for it's final sortie, altough the battle is alredy over. Overwhelmed by ZAFT forces the only thing Allen - the pilot - can do now is to brign as many of them as possible to hell with him...

[Spectre Strike] WIP 8 - with the speed of AIR

Another Update! This time let me show you what i've done in a day of painting.

Airbrushing is a pretty straight forward thing so I don't think I should describe how I did it, right?
But I can list the colours I used, I will let you guys guess wich is used where but that should be an easy one.

Here we go:
Tamiya X-2 White
Agama A41 M Air Superiority Blue
Tamiya XF-18 Medium Blue
Tamiya XF-80 Royal Light Grey
Tamiya XF-53 Neutral Grey
Tamiya X-10 Gunmetal

I was thinking about trying pre-shading but my airbrushing skils aren't up to the task yet (neither is my pseudo-Iwata on such a small kit). Hmm this post is missing something... what could it be... oh! PICTURES!!!!

Now my toughts about the couolrs i used for the first time:

Agama Air Superiority Blue (FS 35450 if anyone cares) is definitly a nice shade and i'm getting more and more impressed on how nice those paints are for airbrushing, it feels better to airbrush them if that makes any sense, and somehow they aren't clogging in an airbrush and are easier to clean, and as I said before, when handpinting the brush strokes are hardly seen, and even that only sometimes. Definitly worth trying if you guys can get some of them. Oh and most important - they are cheap, wich is even more suprisng.

Tamiya X-10 Gunmetal, can't say it looks bad or anything, but I was kinda expecting it be a little bit darker OOJ (out of the jar), it may appear similar to metalic grey but I do like later one a lot more.

Tamiya XF-80 Royal Light Grey, definitly woth getting, it is a very interesting shade of grey, I'm painting for only few years but this is the first time I get shade like that OOJ, it is a very warm grey, like it would have just a little bit of yellow or orange in to it, but it is still definitly grey.

That should be all for this update, next up is detail painting and putting the metal parts on, then gloss coat. After that you guys can expect another update.

[Spectre Srike] WIP 7 - Primed and ready

Picking up some much needed speed again :D

Spectre is primed and ready for first round of painitng, i'm not gonna tell you what kind of a colour scheme it will be (I did mention it before tough...).

Anyway let's have a look;

What do you think guys? Is this a match for the Raven?

Other than that I maganged to choose final shades of coulurs - with big help of my friends from Zombie Killing Team, and did a quick mock up in photoshop to try out few things BEFORE painting - just so i won't have to repaint the whole thing if some ideas will turn crappy.

Hopefully I can start painitng today.

Hi!

as promised some updates on the Spectre, i got so excited while working on it i forgot to take more picures so there will be only a few this time, still i hope you guys will like what u will see

Basicly i was working mostly on the wngs, decided to practice my scribing skills more so plating will be only minimal, for those parts i plan to focus more on the paint job and decals. But still some mods were done, as you can clearly see swords were modded to act more as a wings and they lost their ability to detach and be handhelded.
Other than that i scribied some lines on upper wings (the small ones) and middle conector pieces. I still have to finish other wing, but that shouldn't take too much time (if I will not get distracted...)

I couldn't wait any longer so I put evrthing that was done togheter to see how it looks, I will let you guys decide for yourself if it looks "ok" or not:

and again didn't took pics but the base is coming along nicely, for now a picture from early stages of painting

should be about evrything for now. Next update will be primed Spectre :D

It's library time!

ok guys I updated library few days ago but didn't realy get around to post about it....

anyway some new stuff include awesome Char's Deleted Afair manga scanlated by Zeonic Scanlations, some more mangas, a helluvalot of Random pictures and i gotta warn u guys that some of them may not be safe for work (depending where you work of course)

as far as the WIP updates go, you can go to ZN TV to see latest update of Noir. next update will be soon as I'am approaching painting stage.

I hope to get this guy done by the end of the week (along with the diorama of course)

other WIPs.... well absolutely nothing done.. deadlines are coming and I think I will need galons of coffee in order to make it all....

Almost forgot - there is an local competition held in september (23-25) so i will definitly go there, if the time will allow i may make a scale model for it (no gunpla) but i will definitly take some of my kits there, if u have any propositions as to wich ones shoud i take please put it in the comments :D

I guess that's about it fir this post , so stay tuned for some updates this week :D

Library Update

Hi!

Work and Uni taking most of my time atm so i can't do much modeling but there are a few updates

first of all is the library - just added some scans and other pictures - , Astray and Astray R manga scans (in english), some more mangas, PATLABOR scans, LoGH, Zeta Randoms, AoZ - vol 6 and few other things

in other news go HERE for a vid update of Spectre and Freedom Strike :D

EU-GC: Freedom Strike

So the contest work begins...

First thing was the most important modification - ataching Freedom's backpack on the the Strike's body, wich turned out to be way easier than expected. All I had to do was cut off half of the top part of backpack and then just do a little sanding here and there. Here is what i was left with

As you can see in the next picture fit is not perfect but i have alredy taken care of that with the power pla-plate altough forogot to take pictures so that will have to wait for the next update

there was one little issue with ataching the backpack - i had to get rid of lower thrusters of Strike but that was actualy a good think as it left me with an empty space perfect for making a stand atachment

After that I decided to do some works on the head, I got this kit from my friend (long story short he owed me some money so... well :D ) and he managed to break V-fin. Well quite easy to repair but why not change it a little bit? so instead of using original parts i used parts from 1/100 Astrea - still has that Strike feel but looks slighly diffrent, I'm thinking of changing it just a little bit but not sure yet.

But what more important is this:

Added a pla plate above the eyes to make that "evil" look

it looks quite fugly in the picture but i have alredy cleaned it up, again sorry for no picture, will be working on it soon so once i'm done you can expect another update. Also cutted out a place where a camera in the back would be so the light will shine once the new clear part is in place:

Back to the chest, added some plaplate on the front part to make it look more like a GFFN Strike, then added some plates for details, drilled out a hole in the chest, put a plaplate below it and added some details - kinda hard to see now but once primed should be visible, I will keep on adding details to the torso as it still looks to bland for me right now (especialy after Kamm & PhantomPain showed me some great great gunpla)

And the last 2 thing for this update - the weapons
Assault Rifle it is just a Freedom's rifle modded slightly

and the beam saber - nothing crazy tough...

Hideout - 1/144 HG Enact with a hangar diorama

Suddenly - completed kit. Striking out of nowhere you can see my latest work - a HG Enact with hangar diorama. I wanted to do a hangar diorama for quite some time and after seeing Oceansean's MG Blue Frame with hanger i decided it's a out time to do one :D

But as you will be able to see in few seconds - my hangar is quite diffrent from all the others you may have seen so far... now for the little backstory...

Actions of Celestial Being changed the world, in this time of unification many wanted to stay independent, but they didn't have resources to do so. And as it always have been - when there is a need there will be someone to take care of it - for the right price.

Mercenerias - altough profession as any other in the times of Earth Sphere Federation they were considered outlaws. "The hunter became the prey"

Sergiei Alekseev - exiled from his own country during Solar Wars became a mercenary as he had no other option, yet again he needs to run like a wounded wolf, hiding in his lair he's planing next move and preparing to fight back the hunters in form of A-laws pacification force...

as u can see Enact has only some minor mods, paintjob is inspired by colors of my company ;)
it's a mix of Tamiya acrylics and Agama acrylics; red blue and purple were AB-ed while metalics handpainted, then an enamel wash for panel lines and wheathering with metailc acrylics and oil paints

as for the base I used an USB hub as a base so it will be not only nice looking but also functional

as you can see it is still working, it was also my first time working with LEDs and I think i was able to pull off effect that i wanted

if anyone has some question just ask - I will try to answer them :D

oh and almost forgot... expect something REALLY BIG later this year.... will keep this as a secret for now but may gave away some hints here and there so stay tuned!

first of all - the Library - 15 new albums added, this time mostly manga scans - and most of them are translated! I may divide Library in to sections sometimes in the future to make acces easier.

as you guys can see I finished tweaking my blog (at least it seems so....), the poll is over so it is time to do some gunpla!

Freedom Strike was the one to win the poll, wich means it now my main kit - other WIPs won't be postponed but won't be updated as often,

still tweaking my poll and adding content but since we have quite a big and good news here in Europe I decided to ask u something.

If you were outside our galaxy for the last week or You were hibernating let me fill you in:

thx to my friend Kamm we now have our own Gunpla Contest, that's right we can compete with other gunpla-ers

I set up a poll on the side to ask you guys what shold i builod for the competition, i'm not saying this will be my only submision but it depends on the time i want to do at least ONE kit SPECIFICALY for EU-GC

so here is a little more about chioces You have:

Razgriz Freedom - the design set up in late CE - in the same time frame that Re-IG and Volition are.
Freedom Strike - from information I gathered I learned that orignal idea was for Freedom to be a new Striker Pack for Strike - this would be my take on that concept
Strike MK-II - my original desing, based on Strike and few other designs - upgrading the orignal Strike so it could be usefull after SEED Destiny
other - evrything else - be creative guys, your ideas write in the comments
