All About Expenses

What are expenses??????

Yeah! Today we are going to learn about expenses in the P/L (Profit & Loss) Statement. Expenses are the items that are to be deducted to the income that has been made for the particular period in order to get into either profit or loss for the period.

Expenses can be divided into direct and indirect expenses, direct expenses are those that are related to the activity that are vital and can be directly attributable to the product cost while calculating the cost of the products and should be included in the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) figure. This type of expense has been already dealt in previous article. These are to be deducted before coming out to the Gross Profit figure.

Indirect expenses are the expenses that cannot be specifically attributable to the particular product cost as they are related to the expenses not directly related to the product costing that the organization primarily operates its business with and should be deducted after we come up to the Gross Profit figure in P/L. Expenses like Selling and Administration expenses the sub-category can be the rent of the office, salary of the office employees, electricity bills, water bills, commission related expenses and so on.

Let me put further light on this, to categories the direct and indirect expense, there is a nice example. Suppose, A company deals with the manufacturing and sales of shoes, then the rent to the factories can be assigned to the direct expenses but the rent to the administration offices or head offices should be categorized as the indirect expenses as these expenses are support related to the primary function of the organization which is the production of the shoes. The office rent is mere an expenditure which is not directly related to the production of the product that company uses to generate income.

These indirect expenses have various headings according to their nature. The expenses related to the marketing activities can be assigned to sales and marketing expenses. The expense related to the office administration can be grouped in “Administration expenses” which can further be sub-divided into various categories like office rent, utility expenses, salary expense etc. The heading of the expense should be linked to the nature of the expenses to deter any complication regarding the mis-interpretation it can bring else categorized differently.

Typically, there are these sorts of expenses you can see in P/L statement in most of the organization:

Depreciation Expenses:

This relates to the depreciation charged for fixed assets that has been deducted for the particular period (mostly on yearly basis).

Selling and Marketing Expenses:

This relates to the expense that has been charged against the expenditure that has been made in relation to the marketing and sales like commission, advertising etc.

Rent Expenses

Like discussed above Rent Expense relates to the rent that has been paid, the indirect nature, for the building that has been used to operational, administration nature etc. other that the factory rent.

Salary Expenses

Salary Expenses relates to the salary related to the expenditure made against the salary paid to the office staffs working for the department other than the production/manufacturing department (which relates to the production cost). All the indirect nature of salary goes into this heading.

Interest Expenses

Interest Expenses relates to the interest expenditure that has been paid and/or accrued against the loan for the particular period.

Now, the accounting part,

All, the expenses will go into the debit side of the journal entries as there is a thumb nail rule that “all expenses are debits” and “all income are credits”.

So, let’s do one example, to make it simple I am not going to discuss any further liability that is to be assigned when performing entries regarding the expenses like rent & salary. Like in many countries there is a tendency to deduct tax at source when paying to the employees and to some creditors. To make things simpler, let’s exclude this from this example:

So, suppose Company A pays rent of $100,000 yearly on the office rent to Jhon Anderson. Then, what will the accounting entry for the rent expense?????

Simple, its Dr. Rent Expenses $100,000 Cr. John Anderson $100,000.

And, when the company actually pays the bills to John Anderson, the accounting entry should be:

Dr. John Anderson $100,000 Cr. Cash/Bank $100,000.

Similarly, we can do accounting entries for various expenses like this, for small miscellaneous (sundry expenses) it can be paid directly through cash without creating various entries. Like, if, Company A pays the bills related to the office meal against the meal served at office meeting. Actually, it is defined by the company, the nature and limit (in terms of cash) that can be expensed directly from Cash expenses. If the above example fulfills the nature (that can be directly expensed from cash) then the accounting entry become:

Dr. Sundry Miscellaneous expenses $200. Cr. Cash $200.

How To Accounts Cost Of Goods Sold (COG) in Profit & Loss (P/L) (Income Statement)

Ok Guys, To continue with the "Accounting Basics", after having discussion on Sales Revenue. Let’s move on towards the second item on the Income Statement, COGS. I think this article is going to be long coz there are several inner branch of the COGS component which needs to be discussed in order to fully understand what COGS is?????

By virtue of its name, COGS is the total cost of goods that has been sold for the particular fiscal year. There are usually there components which will constitute the COGS:

1. Opening Inventory (Opening Stock)

2. Purchase for the year

3. Closing Inventory (Closing Stock)

Now, Let’s go into details on how to accounts:

Opening Stock (Opening Inventory):

Opening Stock within the COGS component refers to the inventory which is at the opening of the fiscal year and that will be same as the closing inventory of the previous fiscal year. Suppose, if In Year 2019 the closing month is December 31^st, the remaining stock at the end of the December 31^st will be the opening stock for the year 2020. Usually fiscal year always consists of 12 months i.e. a year, so the opening day of the year will be January 1^st and the Opening Balance of the New Year, that is 2020 , is same as that of the closing balance of the Previous Year i.e. 2019. It is needed to calculate the COGS, a P/L item and the Closing Inventory, a balance sheet item.

Purchase for the year:

By virtue of its name, Purchase in COGS is the total amount of Gross Purchase made for the year less any sort of purchase return and discount, which then actually becomes the Net Purchase for the year. Purchase return, is always the return of any purchased goods to the supplier because of different reasons and the discount on purchase refers to the discount that has been received because of various reason like bulk purchase.

Another thing to consider is the freight and transportation charge pertaining to the purchases of the raw material. It is the general principle in accounting that the freight charge and the transportation charge is to be included within the purchase cost itself. It is within the general principle of the accounting that the raw material is valued

It is needed to calculate the COGS, a P/L item and the Closing Inventory, a balance sheet item.

Closing stock (Closing Inventory):

This refers to the total remaining inventory at the end of any fiscal year. This requires the actual count of the inventory level and can be time consuming exercise in various organizations where they lack smart inventory control system. This actual remaining inventory for the year is the ultimate item that goes to the Current Asset section of the Balance Sheet and is a balance sheet item and is needed to calculate the COGS in Income Statement.

I know, you will think about what if I am working in manufacturing units/trading units or hold a business as such, then, the used raw material/trading product which has to be included in the COGS is to be calculated by the same method i.e. Op. stock of the Material/Trading Stock ADD Purchases for the Year Less Cl. Stock of the Material. The other thing that will be a part of COGS will be the Labor charges, which is also called the Direct Labor.

What Direct labor charges is? It is the charge of the workforce that is involved in the manufacturing unit directly in bringing the finished goods (i.e. the product that the company sells) from the raw material that is purchased. Simply, it is the charge of the workforce, mostly calculated in hourly basis.

Another important item to understand the COGS in manufacturing environment is the Direct Overhead Expense and to understand the Direct Overhead Expenses we need to understand what actually is Overhead Expense??? Please follow through the link to understand what Overhead expense actually is ???

In Short, direct Overheads are overheads which relates to the production process of the goods like factory rents, electricity charges allocated for the uses of machines etc.

Actually, there are other headings that can constitute a component of COGS, it actually varies according to the nature of industry in which the company operates like, some companies like AUDI AG and BMW AG incorporates their warranty claims in COGS. Anyway, the basics are described above and if you are studying particular industry then you can follow along with the company specific financial statements and get information from “notes to accounts” section of the annual reports.

How To Accounts: Overheads in Profit & Loss (P/L/( Income Statement)

In this article on “how to accounts”, today, we are going to discuss all about the overheads in P/L (accounting basics). There are plenty of expenses that the company is prone to, in the process of Revenue Generation, These expenses other than the direct labor cost and direct material cost can be aggregated as referred as overhead expenses.

Variable overhead are the overhead which varies accordingly with the production level, like it goes along in proportion with the actual level of the activity for which the overhead actually relates i.e. higher the production/ Sales of good, higher the variable overhead.

Again, both direct and indirect overheads need to get segregated. Direct variable costs are the cost that are specifically assigned to the product costing directly and is to be included in the calculation of COGS like direct labor and direct material. The overheads which can directly be assigned to the production process can be termed as direct overheads and which doesn’t constitutes in production process by any means then those overheads are indirect overheads.

Suppose, if Company A produces 4,000 units of products for which they require $100,000 of raw material and it the units of products to be increased like say, 5,000 units then the raw material has to be increased which increases the amount say, $125,000. This is a perfect example of direct variable cost as it increases/decreases with the activity level. Again let’s Say, if it is a retails distribution channel which usually delivers 1 quantity of product at a time and the distribution of the products varies with the level of sales made i.e. pertaining to the same example as above if the 4,000 units of products takes $2,000, it is obviously clear, that to deliver 5,000 units the cost will rise to 2500 which is not specifically a production related expenses so it is termed as Indirect Variable Expenses.

Fixed Overhead refers to the overhead that is fixed despite the level of production like the machinery expenses. There are other sub-terms like step-fixed means the fixed amount can also change upon reach of the particular production unit. Suppose, at 4,000 unit level production, the Fixed overhead is $50,000 and the amount is fixed despite of the level of production of units it has up to 4,000 but when it goes beyond 4000 unit the fixed amount gets rise to $100,000 up to 8000 unit so, the production cost can be higher if it finishes up producing the 4100 unit and the same production cost per unit fall if it goes to the optimal extreme level of the far end like 4,000 unites and 10,000 units. R & Maintenance of the Production Plant, Rent on Factory Premise can be referred as an example of the fixed and step fixed nature of overhead. And it is almost crystal clear that the fixed and step fixed nature of overhead needs to get optimized in order to manage the cost per unit of the product.

Semi-variable overhead is a mixture of both the fixed and variable component in it like, the minimum threshold is always fixed despite the level of production and it then varies according to the level of production. For example, bonus or commission designed for the level of sales like, a company can pay minimum $100 fixed amount as a commission for 1,000 units of sales. Then again, if the level crosses 2,000 units then the minimum fixed amount increases to $250. Thus the actual payout varies with the level of sales made. This sort of expenses can be seen elsewhere in various other departments but the nature is similar. Again, this can be associated with indirect activities as it particularly doesn’t relate to the production of the unit.

How to Accounts Sales Revenue in Profit & Loss (Income Statement)

Income statement is the key statement to the financial statement. From Income Statement (P/L), all the quantitative analysis regarding the income and expenses can be made for the particular fiscal year.

What is Sales Income???

Sales Income otherwise Revenue in the Profit & Loss statement (Income Statement) is the first item within the statement itself. If you have known about the debit and credit, which is the backbone of any accounting/bookkeeping transaction, Sales is the item which goes in the credit column as income is always a credit item in the accounting transactions.

Sales constitutes the total sales that the company has generated for the particular year i.e. the total amount ( credit or cash) that has been made during the fiscal year by selling the items that the organization primarily deals with. There could be multiple sales items in the Income Statement which refers that company is dealing with more than one item to generate its sales revenue.

To fully understand the Sales/Revenue term you should understand what sales return and discount on sales is:

Sales Return & Discount on Sales

Sales Return is the total return amount that has been returned to the company by the buyer. This can be because of several reasons and depends on the agreement with the buyer. In certain business, there is no return policy in those businesses you cannot see a Sales Return item in the financial statement. But there are plenty of businesses, because of the competition in the business, offering return facility to the buyer in case of faulty goods/obsolete goods or there might be several other reasons to do so. In this case company calculates the Sales Return amount mostly to the same rate as when it was originally sold to the buyer.

, What Discount on Sales is and how it is accounted? Many of the organization offer discount facility on sales it might be because of several issues like, Company wants to sell the obsolete products by offering discount on sales, to achieve the economies of scale (means selling quantities on high amount with minimal profit for each item can actually make high sales revenue, hence high profit). These are just some of the examples to understand why company offers discount on sales, there could be many of these issues specifically applicable to different industries.

Now, let’s join to the party, Time to understand the accounting transactions for these items. Let’s understand this by means of the examples:

· Company A has sold 4000 units of products to Company B for $400,000 in credit.

Journal Entries to show sales by Company A:

Dr. Company B (as a Debtor) $400,000

Cr. Sales Revenue $400,000.

· For small entities, like retail industry, they regularly do cash sales, for that the entry should be:

Dr. Cash/Bank $400.

Cr. Sales Revenue $400.

· Now Let’s do the example of Sales with discount and sales return issue, Let’s say Company A sells a 4000 units of product worth $400,000 thousand to Company B for Credit, in which it offers discount of $20 per unit. Company B returned some of the goods worth $1000 because of the faulty issue. Then to record the transaction, what should you do???? Guess??? Try to form your own answer before checking below listed entry:

First of all to book the sales, JV needs to be entered as:

Dr. Company B                  $320,000
Dr. Discount on Sales $80,000
Cr. Sales Revenue      $400,000

There are some alternate presentation you can make, either you can book full sales revenue which is the gross sales revenue of you can net off the discount and sales revenue to get to the overall Credit balance to $320,000. It actually depends upon how you are presenting and the country specific regulatory requirements.

Again, Sales Return needs to be adjusted afterwards, which requires you to perform the calculation as:

Dr. Sales Return $1,000

Cr. Company B $1,000.

Which will adjust the receivable amount from Company B by the sales return amount and debited sales return figure will be netted off against the Sales Revenue which further decreases the overall sales figure by $1,000.

Today, I am going to lay down some tips and tricks which you can use in your daily life. Without wasting time i should move on with some tips regarding excel.

How to fix an excel cell in formula

If you are writing any formula which needs to take reference to a particular cell. Then, you should have to fix that particular cell, so that your whole formula won't be a mess.

There is much more need of this fixing trick but over here in this particular article i am going to show the use of this trick with a simple example.

From figure,

C13= 40% be the required percentage to be taken out from A, B, C.

In G3, Write your formula as: =C3*D3, you will get the desired result but what if, if you want to copy that formula, To B and C. If you simple copy and paste the formula or simply drag it. You will get the wrong formula as the formula will keep moving in relation to the cell.

In order to solve this problem, you should fix the particular cell, which is cell C3. So that, A, B, C will relate to the Percentage in C3.

To do this, just type: $C$3 in the place of C3 in the formula, So the new formula should look like this, in G3: =D3*$C$3, now you can copy and paste the formula to I3 you will get your desired result.

The Use of Concatenate Function

The use of concatenate function is an addition if you know how to use this, What it actually does is that, it combines the text in different cell into one.

From Figure,

There are string of texts in D3, E2 and F3, I used the function called concatenate in D6.

What i did was, used =Contatenate(D3,E2,F3).

You can see the Result in D6.

The Use of Left, Right & Mid Function

What these function does is just opposite to the one that the concatenate function does.

Left separate the left string of the particular text string.

Right Function will separate Right side String form the particular text string.

Mid function will separate Mid string of the particular text string.

From Figure,

Lets Play with a string of text called "This is for a test purpose" which is in Cell B2.

I typed in C5 as: =left(B2,5). Why is that 5 for? 5 is the no. of characters which it will take from the Left hand side from B2. Note:(Space) is also count as an character, so "This " = 5 character is there in cell C5.

I typed in D5 as: right(B2,5). This has the same explanation as of above. Simply it starts from the right had side of the text string in B2.

I typed in E5 as: mid(B2,6,5). B2 is the reference cell, 6 is no. of characters from left hand side (to start copying), 5 is how many characters further you require to copy.

How To Use Offset Function In Excel

OFFSET function is a very useful benefit that comes with the Microsoft Excel, and there are more than 10 different circumstances, where it might be needed. However, we provide you with 10 different examples and formulas where the function is extremely useful in business. This is a function that would return the range of cells, using the specified numbers of both columns and rows along with the beginning of the range, as it has been specified by the users. This is because the users have the ability to specify a size of range that would be returned, which gives the user a strong opportunity to decide the range of his or her desire.

OFFSET Function's Parameters

These parameters are as specified by Microsoft Excel, and are reference, followed by rows, column, and the height and finally the width.

Reference: This is essential and required by the Microsoft Excel, as it is the initial range that needs to be offset. It is possible for it to be either one cells or more cells, depending on the desire of its users

Rows: This is critical to the function and is the number of rows right from the beginning of that range that has been initially supplied to ace as beginning of range that would be returned.

Example 1: A Simple OFFSET Usage

The order list has been established, and we'd know whom our customers are, and their orders as well as prices. Example 4: Extracting Sales for a Specific Period with OFFSET

This is the follow-up to the previous example, and this time we have a different problem. We'd have so many sales periods, and we are looking for the sales for a period. There has been different methods that are useful for finding the same thing, but this time we believe that the OFFSET function is the perfect tool. In this formula, after we have marked all the cells that we would like to cover, we'd write the formula, and then type F2, followed by CTRL, SHIFT and close it with pressing enter on the keyboard.

Example 5: Advanced Usage of OFFSET & Match Function in Excel

In this example, we do have a business ready, and we are looking for a new way to get the business going, which is why we have decided to use the OFFSET and MATCH function to find the highly suitable and beneficial way of doing it. As the case has been for quite some time, we want to find a suitable way to find the sales for a specific period. There are other functions that could do the job, but we would prefer using the Match and OFFSET. We are using the same file as the two previous examples, and we think that the best way to do so is to clarify that it is very possible to perform these acts without compromising the information of the sales' quotes on the weeks.

Example 6: Compromises with OFFSET Formula with SUM and MATCH

This example is using the same data as previous examples, but we are going to use a different formula combining the OFFSET with SUM and MATCH in the same formula. Example 7: MIN and OFFSET to Get a Value

The business has been going great for the last months, and we want to assess the business performance within this period of time to understand how the business has greatly been performing. This is something that would help us know if we could compensate for the time when we performed less. For this reason, we are going to use the same data as the previous one, and want to comprehend how our highest performance, and precisely how much it is.

How to Use "=TODAY()" Date Function In Excel

There are no arguments to enter for the =TODAY() or =NOW() functions. Both of these date functions generate their data from the computer's built-in clock i.e. the clock right at the lower left hand side of your computer screen.

=TODAY()

This function returns the current date. To display the date in a different format than the default, You have to go to the "Format Cells" Tab.

Type =TODAY() to any cell you want your date to be inserted. Boom you will see today's date inserted in that cell. Now you can choose format of date.

Right Click the cell on which you have typed the function, you will see "Format Cells" in the menus to bring up the "Format cells" tab, which ever format you wish. Done.

Alternatively, In your screen with with "Home", Just side of the "Wrap Text". You will see a drop-down list. Click on the drop down list and you will see various formats, Click on "More Number Formats". "Format Cells" tab will appear, Go to "Date" and choose whatever format you want.

How to Use "=NOW()" Date Function In Excel

Follow the steps same as above and when you get to the "Format Cells" tab, then Choose "Time". Now you can choose whatever format you wish your time to appear on your excel sheet.

While writing this article I came into mood to throw in another small but valuable function, that can be used in daily life. This particular function is called "=DAYS360". Suppose, If you want to find how many days are there in between two different dates, then you can use this function.

How to Use "=DAYS360()" Date Function In Excel

Select the cell where you want the no. of days between two dates to appear.
Type "=Days3600(Start date, End date).
Suppose, If your A1 cell consists the Start date, And B1 consists then end date. If you want to insert the no. of days in between cell A1 and Cell B1 in C1, Then, Insert the Date formula in C1 as "=Days360(A1,B1)". Easy peasy Done :)

· Then after doing this, again go to Settings--à “Additional Features” there you will see your monetization is not green, it says like your country is not qualified for the program or something like that….leave that.

· In order to receive money from youtube you need to have Adsense account, if you already have adsense account then you can add youtube to the adsense account. If not then you have to create one.

· Now, In order to link/create new adsense account , you should go to channel, “Status and Features” (there you should see your monetization tab in green, which mean your channel is now monetized) you should click “ View Monetization Settings” then, you should click…. “how will I be paid”, Then click: ” Associate an Adsense account” :--à click Next

· If you already have adsense account you should login by that account, if you don’t have adsense account you can create with this gmail account for which you have your youtube account. Or you can create another gmail account for adsense.

· I will go with signing in with the same account so I should click “Yes”, and then click “Accept Association”. If you want to create another account for this then you should, click ”create another account” and then create another account then you should be redirected to the same process after you create your account.

· Then fill in the sign up form, and please be reminded, this time you should give your true identity like name and other things, coz when you are eligible to withdraw money, google adsense will directly send money to your bank account. So don’t provide false information over here. Now you will be redirected to your youtube channel.

· In order to check, your adsense setting go to Channel :-à “Status and Features. And check settings and all...... Or you can directly re-login to your adsense account http://www.google.com/adsense.

· Now start generating quality videos and uploading to your youtube channel, insert good title, quality description and relevant meta-tags so that people can get your video when they search something relevant about your video on youtube. In this tutorial, I am going to teach how you can purchase a custom domain from your unverified paypal account. I did it with namecheap and in this tutorial i am going to show you how you can buy your custom domain via namecheap and how you link it with your blogspot blog.

Go to the namecheap website, For this you can click here: Go To Namecheap.

Search your desired custom domain like "yourname.com", "yourname.org" etc. get the appropriate custom domain that you wish to link up with your blogspot blog.

After having research with your domain name, click to the "add to cart", you can see a "cart" icon right after the domain name you have searched. then click on the "view cart". There is a option to enter "promo code". Until 31th August namecheap is giving discount (Just above $1) to its domain if you enter the promo code. The promo code for the "purchase of domain" :"HOTREGXFER".

How to link your namecheap custom domain to the blogger's blog

Now i will focus on how you can redirect your bloggers' blog to this namecheap domain you have just bought or you already have.

Step 1. Login to your namecheap account.You can see your Username on the upper left hand side of the screen, If you didn't see your username then click on namecheap and you will see.

Step 2. Click on to your username and then

Step 3. Click on to "Manage domains"

Step 4. Then click your domain name that is the domain name that your have created on namecheap

Step 5. Then go to left hand side and click "all host records".

Now, open another tap on your browser and open your blogger blog.

Step 6. Go to settings and then basic, Under Publishing --> Under Blog Address, you will see "+Setup a 3rdpary URL for your blog" Click that then under enter your domain name in the format "www.yourdomain.com" not like "yourdomain.com". Then Click Save..

Now again go to the namecheap, that should be on your other browser tab. If you have closed then got login again and the go the "All host records".

Step. 7 Now match those figures, From the figure of blogger copy the Item 1 and paste to the place in the second figure (namecheap page) where i have written 1. Similarly do that upto 3.

Step. 8 Now on the namecheap page, on the fourth column you should select CNAME(Alias) from dropdown list.

Now under that there is mail setting you can use as per your need but if you are new you can leave that as default (i.e leave it what it is, that's what i did at first).That's a different topic relates to mail service.....

Step 9. Now click save and Boom check on your browser by typing your new custom domain, you should see your blogger's blog :).

You need to have detail research process in order to optimize your keywords for your business. Without wasting a time I am moving on with an example. Let’s say, if you search keyword like car you can see results like the figure below.

Let’s say you have a business you sell “Used Card “. In the figure, If you try to optimize the word Car, obviously the search volume will be high and is the competition but keyword relevance will be quite low, why is this? Because there are many searches which follow car and if you try to optimize the word car you will be get high competition which makes it harder to find the first page of google and if you are just a start up then forget it. Another this your business, is second hand car buying and selling then a particular car is not a keyword having high relevance because under this, search engine may show results like car wash, pajero cars, there could be many niches with words car, So you may end up with untargeted traffic which is not relevant to your business and think about the competition, it will be huge.

Instead , for the same business, if you are selling second hand Toyota cars, then you can use keywords like” buy used blue Toyota 2010”, “buy used Toyota cars” etc. Thus, if you use keyword like this, obviously you won’t have high volume of search like one in the previous but people coming to you will be targeted to your product which can uplift your sales figure. Today i am going to teach you how you can get more traffic by placing in meta description to your blog post :). Meta description is a search description to your individual blog post.When search engine list your blog/website to in a particular search, below your title and permalink they will include this description to enable users to find what they are searching for. So place your keywords in the search description in such a way that your blog will get every chance to be in the search result if particular keywords are searched. Obvioulsy its very hard to come to the 1st page of the google but at least you will increase your chance and this obviously will increase your search engine rating.

Go to your blog post and click edit,you don't see any tab where you can place search description of the post..... no let's move to create the one....

Steps to include search description to your blog post

Step 1. Login to your blogger and go to the individual blog:)

Step 2. Go to settings

Step 3. Then go to search preferences.

Step 4. At the beginning of the page there is a item called Metal tags,Make that enable and enter your blog's meta description(search description).you should enter what your blog is about and what are you covering in your blog.Basically give search engine a description, what your blog is covering. And save the changes

Step 5. Now go to your blog post and see you should find and extra item called search description which was never there at first. Now this is a place to enter your individual blog post description so that the search engine and people will know what your post is all about. When people see your blogpost through search engine that is when your blog is visible, below the permalink( your blog post's url) they will see this description.

You should be reminded:- Please don't put characters more than 150 in the box which includes "space" and other characters. For eg. If your search description is "This is a blog covering SEO". Then the no. of characters will be 27 without including this :--> ".

It will take someday by search engines to show your manual description along with the title and url.

Note: if you don't enter the search description, search engine automatically put some of the text, basically i guess the starting text of your particular blog post.
By entering your custom description you have your chance to let people know what your blog post is all about.

The main characteristics of ‘factor models’ of the asset pricing are:

Models of asset pricing describe expected rates of return of financial assets which are traded in financial markets. Financial assets are things like bonds, options, future contract etc. These models of financial economics are based on two core concepts. The first one is “no arbitrage principle” and the second one is “financial market equilibrium”.

The “no arbitrage principle” states that market forces tend to align the prices of financial assets so as to eliminate arbitrage opportunities. This implies there is no such financial asset with zero cost.

The second one is “financial market equilibrium”, condition for financial market equilibrium in a market with no frictions is that the first-order conditions of the investor’s optimization problem are satisfied because Investors’ desired holdings of financial assets are derived from an optimization problem.

Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM)

Of the various model of asset pricing, one of the models is the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM). CAPM calculates a required return based on a risk measurement. To do this, the model relies on a risk multiplier called the beta coefficient.

CAPM depends on certain assumptions. Originally, there were nine assumptions, although more recent work in financial theory has relaxed these rules somewhat. The original assumptions were:

Investors are wealth maximizers, who select investments based on expected return and standard deviation.
Investors can borrow or lend unlimited amounts at a risk-free (or zero risk) rate.
There are no restrictions on short sales (selling securities that you don't yet own) of any financial asset.
All investors have the same expectations related to the market.
All financial assets are fully divisible (you can buy and sell as much or as little as you like) and can be sold at any time at the market price.
There are no transaction costs.
There are no taxes.
No investor's activities can influence market prices.
The quantities of all financial assets are given and fixed.

The CAPM formula is sometimes called the Security Market Line formula and consists of the following equation:

r* = kRF + b(kM - kRF)

It is basically the equation of a line, where:

r* = required return

kRF = the risk-free rate

kM = the average market return

b = the beta coefficient of the security (risk attached to the investment)

Simply, the required return will be positively correlated to the risk attached to the investment (b). If risk attached to the investment is greater than that with the market risk than high return is desirable and if the risk attached to the investment is less than that with the market rate then return below the market rate can be acceptable.

The main assumption of this model is such that investors are well diversified with several market portfolios which eliminate the unsystematic part of the whole risk. The only risk left is the systematic risk which is a risk which affects the whole economic environment as a whole, in a modern world there are some techniques developed to minimize the systematic risk but generally it affects the whole economy.

I have seen almost every blogger linking their facebook fan page with their website so that there will be like box in their website where you can see the fans of the blog on facebook. Fan members can be increased when you click the like button on the like box.

Previously, you have done with like box setting but now facebook require you to go through page plugin and set up your fan page in your website. In this particular tutorial I am going to teach you two ways of creating a fan page, one is simple and one is dynamic, you can check here at my blog as well, right now I have two widgets of facebook fan page integrated to by blog.

For the simple one

1. Go to the facebook developers page Click here, Skip add after 5 second and you will be redirected to facebook developers website.

2. Enter your facebook page address, Open your facebook page with different browser and copy the url and paste it there at the developers page.

3. Choose the width and height and choose other options aswell, like to show post or not to show friends’ faces or not etc…

4. See designs and then choose your own style and then click get code.

5. Now you will see two codes just in the figure below.

6. Now copy the 1st code and go to your bloggers template and click Edit Template, Then click your cursor over anywhere inside the template code and click CTRL+F from your keyboard this will open a search box where you should enter<body>, When you find <body>, if you have inbuild blogger theme you should search only <body. Then just paste your code just below the <body> or <body line and click Save.

Solve error with facebook page plugin javascript code

One thing, sometimes this code don’t work, I have faced the problem as well, It will show error like “Error parsing XML, line 662, column 64: The reference to entity "version" must end with the ';' delimiter. For this, you have to add extra code in between the line that is showing the error, you have to place “amp;” only amp; into two places, just after ‘&’, First before editing the code looks like this: js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.4&appId=140422499312488"; You should make this code look like this:

js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.4&appId=140422499312488"; You just need to add ‘amp;’ in between “& and version” and “& and appId”. Then save the template, it should work fine.

7. Then you copy the next code and go to the “Layout section” and click Add New Gadgets and select Html/Javascript, give it a name like “Like us on Facebook, but it’s optional. Paste the code there and click save……Cheers your facebook fan page is integrated to your website.

Add Dynamic Facebook fan-page

This is the another way of putting your facebook fan page inside your website, I mean this will be dynamic that will move along the cursor where you will go the facebook tab will follow and when you hover your mouse over there it will pops out. See my blog, I guess you got me. Its right here to the right side of the screen.

Simple copy the below code and paste before the </head> tag. You may paste it just above the </head> tag.

I guess you have understood now, Copy your facebook page address and where there is “http://www.” You should replace it with “http%3A%2F%2F”. And where there is ‘/’ you should replace it with ‘%2F’. Now after this alteration save it to the gadget and check out the cool facebook fan-page in your blog.

Change permalink of the old blog post

You can choose your permalink when you post a new blog post into your blog. But after clicking the publish button, that’s when your blog will get publish, if you want to customize your permalink because of your seo needs, you cannot simply change the blog post's permalink by clicking on to the permalink tab. Step 1. As always, Enter into your blog.

Step 2. Choose a blogpost of which you want to change the permalink and then click EDIT

Step 3. Now, aside of the "Update" button, which is in red, you should see something like. “revert to draft”. Click that.

Step 4. Now go to the permalink, you can see, you can now change the permalink of your blog post.

The big disappointment is they lacks specific content advert, means, they are not equipped with diversified adverts as in comparison to the google adsense.
If you get visitors from Asian countries, your visitors will not see diversified advert, there are not much diversified adverts like it is when you visitors are overseas.

Accounting Basics

Accounting is managing debits and credits. That’s all. Debit equals Credit. If in any transaction you have your debit balance equals to 1000 then the corresponding credit balance should equals to 1000. This is also called double-entry bookkeeping where every transaction has direct effect on more than one ledger accounts.

There are only two categories of debits : Assets and Expenses and there are only three categories of credits: Income, Liabilities and equity. Now a critic would say what about the contra entries and the treasury stock. Contra –Assets are also credits and the treasury stocks are also debits.( I won’t be covering these two sections over here).

Basically, Assets are things you own and liabilities are things you owe to others. Equity is your investment in the company. Revenues are income you earn where as expenses are mostly bills you pay. An account is a catalogue number with a description. For example: 0100 Petty Cash. Every account will fall into one of the five categories mentioned above i.e. Assets, Liabilities, Income, Expenses and Equity.

Now when you have all your accounts listed in this way, you will end up with this big book which is called “General Ledger”. General Ledger can either take an electronic form i.e. maintained in the computer software or the manual form that’s basically the manual paper book. Now let’s say you want to look at this big general ledger in summary, the summary of all the ledger balances are grabbed in a statement called Trial Balance For example, “You could have many transaction in relation to the cash which are all accumulated and preserved in the Cash Ledger, similarly there could be many ledgers covering different transactions like sales ledger, purchase ledger etc. The end result of all ledger balances are summarized to a single amount in the trial balance (which will show the end balance of all the ledgers). Trial balance will present the Debits in the left column and Credits in the right column. The thing is this that the total of the debit column and credit column should have the same total, WHY????? Because Debits Equals Credits. Below listed figure is a sample of trial balance prepared in a excel sheet.

Now you should have question, how I post entries to the general ledger. Let’s make it simple there is a term called “journal “. Entries you will put in the journal are called the” journal entries”. When you enter the journal entries the computer systems record Journal Entries in the Ledger and Journal at the same time. Debit entries increases the debit balances, and credit entries decrease them. It’s just like a mathematics .For example,

Let’s assume you have a retail shop where you sell your goods to the customer and purchaser form the supplier to resell. You have cash ledger and you should know that cash is an asset and by default assets is a debit, say, your cash balance now is 10000

Scenario 1,

1 hour later you made cash sales of 5000 then your journal entry will be:

Dr(debit).Cash a/c: 5000

Cr(credit). Sales a/c: 5000

Now in the Cash ledger the end balance will be: 10000(which was previous) + 5000(from the new sale) =15000. Similarly the Sales ledger will be updated for its credit entry.

Scenario 2,

Again after 1 hour, you made cash purchase of goods from the supplier for 8000, Then, the journal entry will be:

Dr. Purchase a/c: 8000

Cr. Cash a/c: 8000

Now, what will be the balance on you ledger, can you please calculate. Let’s do it.

We have our updated cash account after the recent sale with 15000 and we should know cash is a asset and it is always debit. Now from scenario 2(journal entry), Cash a/c was credited. That means the updated Cash Ledger account will be: Dr. 15000(after the sale)-8000(purchase of goods where Cash a/c is credited). Then the end Cash A/c Ledger balance will be 7000. Similarly, there will be effect on the Purchase A/c Ledger.

This is how each ledger accounts get updated as in course of the business and it is an ongoing process. The balance of the ledger account will go to the trial balance and from the trial balance we will prepare other financial statements like Balance Sheet & Income Statement.

How To Use Excel Countif Function In Excel

Excel Countif function is a very powerful function in excel especially if you are working with numerous number of data in a database. People can use countif function according to their necessity but today I am going to show how Excel countif function can be used to check and match data in one column to another. This excel countif function is so interesting that it can be used as a powerful database function. In this very article I am going to cover another powerful and simple excel function which you might or might not be aware off.

How countif function works

Let’s start the tutorial about countif function basically important for database clerks, accountants, bookkeepers as well as to an auditor.

From the figure above,

Column A contains some random names. Similarly Column C also contains some random name but you can see that in this column there are some names common to the Column A. Now you may ask what are we going to do with this??? Let’s get in, Over here we are using excel countif function to check which of the cell in “Column C” contains the name from “Column A”.

Create a random column, over here in this tutorial I am choosing “Column E” to insert my excel countif function.

From the figure, I inserted excel countif function in “Column E3” as: =countif($A$3:$A$11,C3)

What I did was, I fixed the Range with $ sign, $ sign is used to fix the cell i.e. if you want to fix A3 in carrying out any of the calculations, you can do it by using the $ sign as $A$3. Now I have covered a range which is ”A3 to A11” and it is fixed. Then, I typed C3 as my criteria i.e. it will search if there is a name called “ Raju Dahal” in the given range of column A. Then simply, copy the formula in E3 and drag it to E11. What it does is, if the name in a particular cell in column C has its match in any cell of column A then it will show “1” in the Column E, if not then it will show “ 0”.

You can even select the whole column A(Range) if you don’t want to go with that $ sign as simply with the formula =countif(A:A,C3). That’s what is did in Column F. The other process is same as previous.

The next function, small but interesting function in excel is proper, I don’t want to or I guess I don’t need to explain what this function does coz, you might already have figured it out by looking at the figure.

Match the format of the names in “Column C” with “Column G”. What I did was, just inserted a proper function with =proper(C3) in “Column (G3)” and drag that to G11. You can see the difference.

Common financial transactions and tasks that are involved in BOOKKEEPING include:

· Monitoring Individual Accounts receivable to check the credibility and follow-up.

· Providing Financial and other form of reports as asked by the senior authority.
