The second stage of our branding project for Ormiston Wire is now complete.

Ormiston wanted to use the re-branding as an opportunity to develop new markets for their more specialist products. We repositioned them from being seen as a general wire products provider to a specialist in specific sectors, such as marine, military, and the arts.

This sector-specific approach was applied to the new website. Engaging imagery of wire usage in these different industries was used to draw users to relevant sectors first, before drilling down to the more technical wire product areas.

We have completed the redesign of the website of financial software company Verasis.

The website style was based on a series images by illustrator Aude Van Ryn. Key words, such as Clarity, Consistency, Simplicity, and Efficacy were illustrated, putting the benefits of the software to the fore in an easily understood manner.

This allows the site to speak equally to both directors and technical staff of clients.

Turner’s House Trust are a charitable fund who aim to restore the house for educational and tourist interest. This book, detailing the history of the house and Turner’s time in Twickenham, was produced to raise funds and public awareness for the trust.

A2 have created a new identity for Haviland Designs – a specialist in supplying artwork, frames and mirrors; and their product line the Alhambra Plaque Collection.

A stronger visual identity was created to better promote Haviland’s different activities to a wider range of clients, and to create a strong parent brand to support the Plaque Collection.

We have a completed a re-design of creative director Andrew’s photography portfolio website. The aims of the site design were: to show the photographs at their best, with simple navigation between images and projects; and to allow Andrew to update the site as easily as possible through the content management system.

We have recently finished the first stage of a branding project for specialist wire suppliers Ormiston Wire. To coincide with the merger of Ormiston and their sister company Midland Wire Cordage, a new corporate identity has been created.

The identity is inspired by the cross-sectional view across a wire cable. Wires of differing diameters are braided together in a set pattern to form stronger wire cables. As a company with a substantial environmental policy, including a Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development, the logo also has a dual meaning, referencing the shape of a flower.

Application to stationery

One of the challenges of the project is standardising the large number of documents, templates and catalogues Ormiston currently has, all using different design styles, colours and logos. Bringing consistency to all these materials will be beneficial in clarifying Ormiston’s communications.

We are now working on the application of the identity across the full range of Ormiston’s applications and materials, and the development of a new company website.

The Alan Cristea Gallery in London recently held a major retrospective of prints by Anni Albers, a mixture of lithography, screenprinting and concepts studies.

A student of the Bauhaus and wife of Josef Albers, Anni Albers’ prints are strikingly graphic, built up out of simple geometric forms and bold colours to create large intricate patterns, at times reminiscent of the Op Art style.

KK Outlet recently held an exhibition of illustrator Noma Bar’s prints and 3D work.

Bar expertly uses negative space and iconography to create dual meanings in his images, enabling him to illustrate complex themes in a visually succinct and satisfying manner, using a minimum of strokes, shapes and colours.

The identities we created for Premier Lifts and TCO Software are to be featured in a new compendium book of symbols. The book is set to be published by Laurence King in 2010.

The Pump House Gallery situated in Battersea Park recently held a retrospective of British designer Ken Briggs, focusing on his work for The National Theatre in the 1960s.

His bright, bold designs and Swiss typography quickly established a recognizable and consistent style for the then-fledgling theatre, and the legacy of his work is still visible in the NT’s visual identity today.
