Cymarshall Law and Skit Slam are Everliven Sound

ABOUT THE ALBUM

Freedom II is the new album by group Everliven Sound consisting of Jamaican-rooted, UK-raised brothers Cymarshall Law (New Jersey) and Skit Slam (UK), coming to us at the exact time its needed to bring balance to the force known as Hip-Hop. Freedom II carries a vibe similar to their last album, Freedom (Freedom Entertainment, 2008), which was released to outstanding reviews across the globe. Both projects are overflowing with the same essential and rare musical quality – substance.

Amiri - The Recipe

Following up the release of this year’s album Almost Famous with partner in rhyme Spectac, Amiri comes out from behind the boards to release his first solo effort The Recipe. Comprised of 16 tracks featuring Amiri’s signature boom bap soulful sound, The Recipe is 100% Amiri on production and on the mic. Songs like “Music”, “Boom Bap” and “Like They Used Ta!” will have Hip Hop fans wishing it were 1994 again. With influences such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock, DITC, Marley Marl and Large Professor, Amiri has got The Recipe to give hip hop fans what they’re craving.

Not that it’s missing, but Amiri wants appreciation when it comes to skills in the art of Hip Hop. Born and raised in South Carolina, Amiri was introduced to Hip Hop during his childhood through the sounds of Hip Hop pioneers like T La Rock, Kurtis Blow, and Run DMC. “Growing up, anything with rap music involved, I wanted to be a part of it”. Crafting his skills as an MC was how it began, but Amiri realized behind the boards was his true gift.

For those that think Amiri is new to the game are wrong. In 1996 Amiri produced the remix to Mista’s top ten single “Blackberry Molasses”. Since then, Amiri has sharpened his skills and worked with many underground emcees such as Spectac, Blame One, Rubix from Mass Influence, Makeba Mooncycle and last but not least, A Tribe Called Quest on their reunion single “I C U (Doin It)” featuring Erykah Badu.

Look out for the first single, “Boom Bap” to be released in the coming weeks. For a taste of Amiri behind the boards, check out his two latest singles (“The Mass Effect” and “As If“) from Almost Famous.

The Recipe will be release on HiPNOTT Records on September 28th digitally at iTunes and Amazon. Physical CDs, as well as a limited edition flash drive, will also be sold through hipnottrecords.com.

20th Anniversary Remix Album - 'Mama Sad Knock You Out'

On August 27, 1990 LL Cool J teamed up with legendary producer Marley Marl to create one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time, Mama Said Knock You Out. “Don’t call it a comeback!” 20 years later, we here at KevinNottingham.com have gathered producers and emcees from all over the globe to remix a classic.

It all started 8 months ago with a weekly remix contest challenging producers to flip the original samples Marley Marl used to create the production for the album. 15 weeks later, the winning beats were chosen and the quest to find the right emcees to hop on these joints began.

After 8 months of hard work, I believe we have an album that greatly pays tribute to the original. Special thanks goes out to DJ Blacquestarr, DJ Grain, and Thomas (of KN.com) for helping with the contest. Thank you also to all the producers and emcees involved in this project… job well done.  Last but not least, thanks to LL Cool J and Marley Marl for laying the blueprint and providing the inspiration for making this remix album possible.

El Da Sensei and The Returners reunite on the forthcoming album, “Global Takeover 2: Nu World”. The album is a follow up to their 2008 project, “Global Takeover: The Beginning”, that showcased El over relentless boom bap provided by the highly skilled production duo of The Returners.  “Nu World” is no different as El and The Returner’s craft another album armed to the teeth with hard hitting East Coast beats, turntable wizardry and aggressive lyricism. The album also features a heavy guest list such as Treach (of Naughty by Nature), Sean Price, Reks, John Robinson, Akrobatik, Bekay & Tiye Phoenix that adds another layer of dopeness to the project!

Needle To The Record DJ Competition

(Atlanta, GA – August 23) Needle To The Record DJ Competition (N2TR), brought to you by Traktor, makes its debut at the A3C Hip Hop Festival on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at The Masquerade. The competition starts at 7PM.

Needle To The Record welcomes two of the competition’s judges, DJ Rob Swift (formerly of the X-Men/ X-ecutioners, and presently Ill Insanity) and DJ Scratch (EPMD).

The competition will feature a product demonstration, provided by Native Instruments. Needle To The Record is also sponsored, in part, by  Traktor urban wear clothing line, Jungle 45.

Needle To The Record DJ Competition (N2TR) celebrates the prolific history of turntablism by taking us to its roots: head-to-head competition. This event features talented DJs, exposing audiences to the cutting edge of DJ artistry. There is something to learn and observe for seasoned hip-hop enthusiasts, new hip-hop heads, cultural admirers and imitators.

Needle To The Record kicked off its inaugural competition on July 8, 2006, featuring eight DJs hailing from California, Florida, New Orleans, Tennessee, and Georgia. The battle took place at Club Vinyl, with such sponsors as RANE, Red Bull and Sony Ericsson. The A3C Hip Hop Festival announces a handful of confirmed artists for the 2010 event at The Masquerade. Erick Sermon, Camp Lo, Rhymefest and Da Beatminerz are just a few of the exemplary artists that will take the stage October 7-9, 2010. In conjunction with this announcement, a special ticket package is available online for a limited time.

The A3C Festival announced today that Erik Sermon, Camp Lo, Rhymefest, Homeboy Sandman, Diamond District, and Da Beatminerz are confirmed to take the stage at the 6th annual largest Hip Hop festival in the Southeast. Atlanta promoter extraordinaire Fadia Kader also announced the second A3C installment of “Perfect Attendance,” which is a 3 day showcase featuring buzz artists from around the country, will feature performances from Pac Div, Mickey Factz, Black Spade, Jackie Chain, Skewby, and 50+ other buzz artists representing the best from the East Coast, West Coast and Midwest accompanied by some of the south’s most exciting, rising stars.

Performers will be released on a continual basis starting today and leading up to the festival in October. In addition to the hundreds of live performances and showcases, the A3C Hip Hop Festival features a wide variety of programming like the iStandard Producer Battle, Needle to the Record DJ Competition as well as playing host to Pro-Audio demonstrations, a national breakdance competition and an expanded number of educational and community panels.
