Hybrido is an amazing new feature in RealFlow 5 that makes amazing ocean and large body water simulations possible. It’s a lot of fun to play with, and we will cover a few of the features in this video that make it amazing. We will mainly concentrate on how to setup the grid based fluid, the splash node, and how to export the mesh with displacement to give it more detail. So make sure you check it out!

Animating arrows, rigging pistons, mustangs, and toon shaders, what more could you want? The technique we are using to animate the arrows can be used in various other applications. We also cover rigging a car piston, which if you haven’t done it before can be kind of difficult. Then putting it all together through animation and toon shading.
The Ocean Shader is one I have been using a lot recently, and have noticed that it’s becoming more popular as a shader than as an ocean. This video we will scratch the surface of what the ocean shader has to offer, and I will get a little more in depth in a later video. I would love to see what you have done with this tut, so send me a link to the examples you have created.

Matchmoving is a very important and sought after technique. It’s an art all on it’s own. Making your audience believe that the 3d matches the live video so well that they forget they are looking at 3d. In this example we will cover a portion of the process of bringing footage into MatchMover converting it into 3d data and importing it into Maya. We will also cover a very cool technique by texturing the scene using projection mapping.

Note: If your matchmove looks great in MatchMover, and you bring the trackers into Maya and your geometry isn’t matching the movement of your camera. Take a cube or any simple primitive and move it around until it moves correctly with the rest of your footage. Sometimes even though it looks like it’s in the correct place it isn’t, and a simple fix is to move it forward and backwards in space. This is definitely a cool project so make sure you check it out!

Physical sun and sky is probably the fastest and easiest ways to get great outdoor lighting. I like to use it for a base lighting, then add secondary fill and back lights to my subjects. This physical sun and sky tutorial covers the two main sun and sky nodes, as well as the mia exposure simple node. In this video we get a huge variation of lighting with just a few mouse clicks. This is definitely a cool project so make sure you check it out!

There are so many different applications where you can use fluids. Here we create a smoking ball, with not much interacting with it. Other objects interact nicely with fluids so make sure you try out a few different techniques so you can really understand them. Make sure you spend some time learning the opacity graph, that 1 setting can really change the look of your smoke dramatically. I cover fluids very quickly in this tut, so for a more thorough breakdown of each attribute go to the maya help files. This is definitely a cool project so make sure you check it out!

Rigging with hair is a fun trick that can really speed up workflow. In the example video, if you were to hand animate each one of those springs you would be working on it a lot longer than the 15 minutes we spent. I was first introduced to this technique from my coworker, Joel Finney and since then we have used this approach a few times.
