However, you might find anything from Shamrocks to Salmiakki mentioned here. There will of course be some boring, factual and informational posts, but I'll keep them to an absolute minimum, I promise!
And also, I might get a bit nostalgic now and then.
So you have been warned!
Expect a few laughs on the way!

Around this time last year (April 8th 2017 to be exact) I popped in to buy a signed copy of Imelda May's latest album 'Life, Love, Flesh, Blood'. A quick meeting, it was nice to meet such a talented singer and nice person too. Her album is great and the voice is amazing. Favourite song from the album is 'Levitate', mainly because it reminds me of the old James Bond movie themes! Apologies for my laziness! I haven't been painting any canvasses at all lately either. I spent four months here and there visiting family in Ireland at the beginning of the year and since then I've had nothing but health issues myself which I'd rather see the back of soon. Visiting Finland during the summer months offers the chance to experience long evenings and for a certain period the midnight sun. In most parts of Finland it doesn't get very dark at all. Where I live along the south-west coast the darkness is set at twilight, so it can be bright enough to play a game of football.

This is a repost from 2011. I'm trying to restart my blog yet again. And what better day to reboot it than this special day in the Finnish calendar. Since Finland is celebrating it's 100 year birthday as an independent nation this year 2017 I hope to repost a few old stories here aswell as some photos from my time living in Finland.

As it's the Easter this weekend I just wanted to post a quick blog on Easter eggs.
As a kid growing up in Ireland the best thing about Easter was receiving chocolate Easter eggs. It's customary for Irish children to get an egg from their parents and they often get a few more from relatives also. With lots of nice and kind relatives I usually got around five or six Alan Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13743318755132426680noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5058410437559675781.post-3016324258812443642015-03-23T01:59:00.002+02:002015-03-23T02:00:45.064+02:00For the Records!Follow my blog with Bloglovin
I presently have a garage full of old wood left over from a bathroom and sauna renovation. I have used quite a lot of it so far as firewood over the winter. I intend to salvage whatever reusable pieces I can. One idea I had is to build a little unit under my old vinyl record player to store all those old records I've collected over the years. This painting is called 'Holding for Hilda' and it depicts one of the many soapstone sculptures from the Pohjola building in Helsinki, Finland. A slight modification by myself plays on the painting's title and is purposely aimed at bringing the public's attention to the original designer of these wonderful sculptures.
Her name was Hilda Flodin (1877-1958)

Kurt Cobain
(February 20, 1967 – April 5, 1994)
If he were alive today he would be celebrating his 48rd birthday. Unfortunately on April 8, 1994 Kurt Cobain was found dead after committing suicide by shooting himself at his home in Seattle. While not a huge fan of the singer and his band Nirvana, I did enjoy their sound and I witnessed the impact it had on a lot of people, Alan Hoganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13743318755132426680noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5058410437559675781.post-25959167797158670262014-09-18T22:54:00.001+03:002014-09-18T22:54:45.996+03:00Autumn Fair in Finland
Today I took a visit to the Autumn Fair in the nearby town of Ekenäs/Tammisaari here in southern Finland. The weather was unusually bright and warm for this time of year here. Like myself most visitors to the fair were dressed for cooler temperatures. But after only ten minutes of arriving I had to remove my jacket and 'wished I had kept my shorts on before leaving home!

I just found this impressive video online today which I have to share. It shows the western part of County Clare off Ireland's west coast, featuring the village of Kilrush, Loop Head, the Bridges of Ross and the amazing Cliffs of Moher.
