SKINPIN March Shows Kick Off Next Week

Next week, Sydney’s rhythm driven, noisy guitar three piece, skinpin, kick off their next round of shows in Sydney, playing throughout March, as well as the coveted support slot for UK punk rock exponents THE EXPLOITED on April 27.

On March 1, skinpin hit the stage at the Sando in Newtown with C.O.F.F.I.N. Doctor Fungi and Boxing With Ghosts; on March 10 they play The Square in Haymarket in Sydney with Brisbane underground rock legends, Giants Of Science, and fellow Sydney locals Lomera and The Turps; on March 30 they team up once again with Dr Fungi at The Lansdowne Hotel; all before hitting the stage for their first ever major international support with THE EXPLOITED at The Manning Bar.

More than 100 music venues from around the country will celebrate Australia’s thriving live music scene at National Slam Day on February 23rd 2012.

New Zealand reggae-soul heavyweights The Black Seeds will release their highly anticipated new studio album Dust And Dirt on April 13 through Remote Control Records.

The long awaited follow up to 2008’s Solid Ground, Dust and Dirt marks an exciting new chapter for the multi platinum selling New Zealand band whose fan base has spread around the world in recent years.

Self recorded and produced in their Wellington studio, the new 13-track album introduces new sounds and styles not heard on previous releases whilst still remaining true to the band’s roots.

The prestigious SIDNEY MYER PERFORMING ARTS AWARDS last night recognised the contribution of Darwin-based record label Skinnyfish Music in its dedication to promoting the music of Indigenous Australians.

The 2012 Facilitator's Prize was awarded to the label which has had success over the past decade with artists including Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu (multi-ARIA & AIR Award, Deadly Award, National Indigenous Music Award), Saltwater Band (ARIA nominee, NT Indigenous Music Award winner), Nabarlek (ARIA nominee, NT Indigenous Music Award, Deadly Award winner) and Ego Lemos (APRA-AGSC Screen Music Award winner), who also performed a new track "It's My Right to Be Free" at the awards ceremony.

Panic Attack is the second single taken from Iowa’s forthcoming album Never Saw It Coming due for release in April.

To celebrate the release of their latest single, Iowa will be launching Panic Attack at The Tote in Melbourne this Wednesday 22 February.

Billy Thorpe Scholarship 2012 Opens March 1st

QMusic is pleased to announce applications for the fifth annual Billy Thorpe Scholarship open on March 1st.

Established by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland in 2007 to honour the late, great Australian musician Billy Thorpe (who passed away in February of that year), the annual Scholarship provides the opportunity for an emerging artist to establish a professional career, plus record an album with a local producer of their choice.
