Grand time, continued...

What a difference a few days make... we had Solly and Arthur here with us. They had been sick before getting to Alexandria with a stomach bug. Sarah got it soon after arriving at our house Wednesday. Her illness delayed them leaving for Florida, but they made it late Thursday night. Jarrod worked the conference and Sarah recuperated. Ted and I were enjoying Solly and Arthur, until I came down with their bug Saturday afternoon. Wow! Knocked me down! Then Jarrod called to tell us they had been in an accident there in Florida! (He and Sarah were okay, but the car is not!) After hours on the phone with insurance reps, Sarah and Jarrod returned to their hotel (thanks to friends in the area). Then Ted got sick last night, around midnight. This bug is persistent! Sarah's Dad came and got Arthur and Solly today, returning them to Monroe... where they are doing well at their house with Pop and Lolly! Ted and I are getting better, slowly!

I did enjoy my time with the boys! Ted, too. We celebrated Jordan's birthday, enjoying time with everyone here. Hopefully Jordan won't take that bug back to Shreveport!

We have lots happening this week at A BEAD BOUTIQUE! We are getting ready for our CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE, Sunday, 11/15/09, 1 - 5 p.m. Sue Rhea will be in the front room with her SILPADA Jewelry. Our OPEN HOUSE is always lots of fun! Join us and the other shops in the area, kicking off our holiday season!

Our Saturday Super Sale was a great success! I'll continue it each Saturday's in November! Buy any 3 strands (from any of the sale categories) and get the 4th one free! Buy 3 strands of Czech glass and get the 4th of equal or lesser value free! We had four different categories yesterday (Czech, Chinese glass, vintage German glass, and 8 inch strands of gemstones). A "GRAND" TIME...

Arthur and Solomon arrived this evening! Ted and I will get to spend time with the boys this weekend while their parents attend a conference. I'll be in and out of the shop... may even bring the boys by!

Jarrod recorded Arthur saying the LORD'S PRAYER... if you click on the link, you should be able to hear him. He's so like his dad was at that age! Where has the time gone?

Pam will be in the shop tomorrow... getting out some new items. The new 16 mm pearls are great! She will be re-stocking some of the purple pearls that we have been out of for awhile. I will have the omega's from Lety Friday. The 16 and 18 inch ones will be available. The 20 inch ones will be in later.

The DESIGNATHON is almost here. Actually, tomorrow! I have spent time making jewelry and have a few more pieces to complete (hopefully!) One thing I know... you never think you have enough jewelry made. It will be good! And, I'm so pleased with the pieces that you, our customers, have made and donated for this event! Thank you! You are the best!

After Tuesday, we begin to focus on our Christmas OPEN HOUSE! It will happen Sunday, December 15th, from 1 - 5 p.m. I invite you to join us. Sue Rhea will be in the shop with her SILPADA jewelry, plus we will have lots of jewelry for sale, too. It's time to think Christmas! Wow! Hard to believe!

Ted and I will have Arthur and Solomon this week-end. They will arrive Wednesday night. It's our first time to keep both boys. As you can imagine, we are so excited. Jarrod and Sarah will be attending a conference... so we get to love on our grandones (without their mom and dad!) What fun! Pam and Ginnie will be in the shop on Thursday. I'll be in and out on Friday.

Saturday will be a big day in the shop! This weekend is the Junior League Merry Market, at the Riverfront Center. In previous years we have been very busy on that day! Join us! Get in on the fun!

We have been making jewelry for Tuesday's DESIGNATHON, our 2nd annual fundraiser for the FOOD BANK OF CENTRAL LOUISIANA. A very special thank you to those of you donating pieces. We will have a great selection of jewelry. I will post photos on Tuesday! It promises to be a lot of fun!

The sun came out and so did lots and lots of bead customers today! Pam and I were so very busy... just the way we like it! The day flew by... not even time for a bite of lunch! I enjoyed seeing the jewelry that folks were working on. We also welcomed several first time customers.

Yesterday we welcomed new customers... even new beaders. A little rain didn't keep sisters, Sue and Jane, away from A BEAD BOUTIQUE. They both love jewelry and made beautiful necklaces! Jane lives here; however, Sue will go back home to California! Thank you for spending a little of your family time with us! We look forward to seeing you again! Jane... come over anytime!

Our BEADOVER was lots of fun! I enjoy seeing what everyone is making. Kathy learned how to make a wrapped loop! Dianne was working on a beautiful necklace using some great carnelian carved stones! Rebecca worked hard to finish her Viking knit bracelet, making her own cones out of wire! Very impressive! Ginnie made a couple of items, including one for the DESIGNATHON!

Tuesday will be a very busy day... putting final touches on our DESIGNATHON items. Join us Tuesday at 5:30 for the preview! You can purchase beautiful jewelry and help a wonderful organization... the FOOD BANK OF CENTRAL LOUISIANA!

I woke myself up singing this morning... "This is the day that the LORD has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it!" I just love it when that happens. I've been singing all day long!

Join me today... we can whistle while we work... or sing and bead! However, you like... this is a great day! I'm thankful for the opportunities before me and look forward to seeing what this day holds!

We continue to work on jewelry for the DESIGNATHON. I have had several pieces donated! Thank you. Our efforts will help raise money so that food can be distributed to families around Central Louisiana.

FRIDAY NIGHT BEADOVER... I still have a few spots left. We will be beading... a time to finish those "works in progress". Call me if you are interested.

Marge will not be able to get to Alexandria next week as planned. She has had some car trouble and will need to move her date back to November 17 and 18. She may stay over on the 19th... not sure yet. She hated to change, but this was unavoidable. (This way we can have some time to save a little money between shows!)

Just what is a 'BEADOVER'?

That question was asked of me today. A BEADOVER is not to be confused with a "sleepover" where one sleeps... instead, I keep A BEAD BOUTIQUE opened and folks join me for a little beading fun at night! We kick off around 6:00p.m. and get out of here around midnight (or maybe later).

We have done these monthly and each one has been a little different. Sometimes we have instructors who teach a class, sometimes I teach something specific... like our wire bracelets we made last month. This Friday, though, we will more than likely all have time to complete some "works in progress!" I am available and do spend time helping with specific problems, or offering some technical advise. The neat thing is being able to bounce ideas off each other... getting creative together! It really is a lot of fun!

Space is limited... there is no charge for the event, other than any beads you might want to purchase (and splitting the cost of a sandwich tray). I will have some type of BEADOVER SPECIAL DISCOUNT, available only to those who are here Friday evening!

I have already had six people sign up today. If you are interested in coming, call the shop Wednesday. We do ask folks to bring their own drinks and one "community snack" that we share (can be a bag of chips, cookies, or candy... keep it simple!) The important thing is to get in some much enjoyed BEADING TIME surrounded by talented beaders, sitting in one of the best bead stores I know... A BEAD BOUTIQUE!

Looking ahead... DESIGNATHON 2009!

A BEAD BOUTIQUE will host our 2nd DESIGNATHON on Tuesday, November 3rd. Mark your calendars and plan to be a part of this special event. You can make a donation to our FOOD BANK and receive a beautiful piece of jewelry! It is win-win... any way you look at it!

We will have a silent and live auction of custom jewelry. The preview will begin at 5:30p.m. The live auction will begin around 6:15 or so. The silent auction will close around 7:00 p.m.

The staff of the FOOD BANK of Central Louisiana will be on hand during the auction. Those winning the auction pieces will make checks payable to the FOOD BANK. 100% of the proceeds will benefit Central Louisiana's FOOD BANK. Last year we raised over $1,600. and I hope to top that this year. With your help we can make a difference!

If you want to donate a piece of jewelry, please call me or bring it by the shop this week. You will need to fill out a donation form, listing your contact information for the FOOD BANK staff (to ensure that every donor receives credit for his/her donation).

This has been a great two days! We have welcomed many new customers to the shop. I love hearing the comments, especially from people who know bead stores! People tell me over and over again that "A BEAD BOUTIQUE is one of the best, if not the best, bead stores they have visited!" That makes my day... over and over! Thank you! My commitment is to be the best bead store anywhere!

I've spent the last two hours making earrings... trying to replace those I've sold today and yesterday! I love my job! I made a couple of necklaces using some of the silver from SILVER DREAMS! I know you'll want one!
