Look no more, BP Social Network is here! No, that’s not a good introduction. On a more serious note, BP Social Network is here! It’s the newest, and coolest buddypress theme, like a social network in a box! It looks and tastes like Facebook (so your users get familiar), but it’s not facebook at all (it’s you)!

The theme’s got a lame name I know, but I can’t think of any better than that. The name tells it all. This theme is inspired by the social network, Facebook.

The theme comes with a user friendly Control Panel (sidebar widget) – this is the user’s home page where all important links are accessible. Features include:

Custom header
3 column, 2 sidebars

I’m not really good at describing things. Please check out the demo here. (username: guest password: guest)

I’ve made some changes on this demo.
Homepage redirects to activity. I have wp-cycle for the home slideshow.
WP Cycle dimension has to be width: 610px and height:300px.
Buddypress Activity Plus installed (custom css and images).

If you have comments/suggestions on how to improve the theme, I would appreciate it. Drop me a line or two. But be warned, I may provide delayed responses. This is a free theme, and I don’t have all the time to update it and provide support, but I would whenever I’m free.

Important: This is a child theme of the buddypress default. So before you get rid of that, if you want to try this theme, think twice. I’ve started css from scratch, made a few changes on the html markup and inherited the rest.

Click here to download it. Enjoy!

I needed to redirect the home page for logged in users, and take them to their member page – cause I didn’t want them stuck on the home page with lame images sliding repeatedly. So I dug the internet for a code snippet to fix my problem (I’m a sucker for code snippets – I want as less plugins as possible). So much for a novice – I mean, under developed (that sounds more appropriate) programmer. Had to use someone else’s code (shame on me!) But hey, that’s what the internet is for Sharing is caring. Freely you have received, freely give

So here’s the code to fix your problems with buddypress homepage redirection. Paste this code on your front-page.php or index.php file. Anywhere at the top.

<?php if ( is_user_logged_in() ) : ?>

Shouted at the top of my lungs, surely drove all the bats off the town. I just wanted to do justice Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart and Whitney Houston (& Jessica Sanchez’) I will always love you. Too bad you missed it. Or maybe not. Anywho, I’m just glad to be alive.

Ever wanted to jump off the building, not wanting to die, but just loving the freedom to? Please don’t get me wrong, and don’t jump off the building just because I said so. After a long week of highs and lows, ups and downs, tidal waves and tornadoes of my life, I’m just so glad I’m still here, happy to be existing and free to live.

Realized a few things. Although I think you wouldn’t really want to be bothered by this, but if you do want to <del>or are just bored enough to keep reading this</del>, here are a few things I wanted to share.

I don’t really want to add to that, cause I might just ruin the whole point, but I think it’s pretty self-explanatory. Unlike a friend who takes you some place and leaves you alone when things turn out ugly, God is greater than all the ugliness in life, and can take you through everything. Amazing huh?

After a decade, I finally heard some news from Mark Read. Does his name ring a bell? How about A1 If not, Google search his images lol (If there’s such verb). Well, i just bumped into his Mark: My Words blog – which is kind of cheesy, corny, a little bit fresh and entertaining but plainly ridiculous (of course in a good way). If you need clean and dry humor, read his blog.

I never knew Ryan Gosling was that attractive. Just wanted to include that on here, cause I really thought the letter was funny.

Enough with the celebrity buzz. Bytehost, my beloved hosting has been acting up. Or maybe not really them (maybe it was just me) but it was a cruel experience. My sites went up and down, like crazy. Just glad they’re okay now. I salute the workers behind all web hosts. Cause I know how hard it is to deal with me as a customer. How much worse dealing with me times gazzilion customers. Tough.

I’m officially 22. If that really means anything to anyone (other than me). So that’s it for resurrecting my blog.

As you may have already known, a network cannot communicate with another network, without a router. And a router cannot communicate with another network if it can’t find a route to it. This is why we have routing. There’s dynamic routing and static routing. What we’re gunna learn today is static routing and how to configure it on cisco routers. More information about Routing can be found here.

On the image above, we have 3 different networks and 4 routers. What we will try to accomplish here is to make it possible for each router to ping all three networks. Follow the simple steps below:

R0 router, by default, only has the network 192.168.10.0/24 on its routing table. That is because it’s directly connected. With that said, R0 can ping its own f0/0 interface and R1′s f0/0, but not R1′s f0/1.

R1 has both 192.168.10.0/24 and 172.16.0.0/16 networks because they’re both directly connected to it. But it will not be able to reach R2′s f0/1 and R3′s f0/0, simply because they’re on the 10.0.0.0/8 network and R1 has no route to that yet.

R2 has both 172.16.0.0/16 and 10.0.0.0/8 networks for the same reason as R1, these networks are directly connected to R2. But it won’t be able to reach the 192.168.10.0/24 network.

R3 only has 10.0.0.0/8 network.

1. On R0, add the networks 172.16.0.0/16 and 10.0.0.0/8 via the gateway 192.168.10.2. If you’re wondering why that is the gateway, it’s because it’s what connects R0 to the rest of the routers. Each router, on this example, has it’s own gateway. Log in to the router and do the following commands:

R0>en
R0#conf t
R0(config)#ip route 172.16.0.0 255.255.0.0 192.168.10.2
R0(config)#ip route 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 192.168.10.2

2. On R1, we only need to add one network. That is10.0.0.0/28 via the gateway 172.16.20.2 (because this gateway connects R1 to the 10.0.0.0/8 network).

R1>en
R1#conf t
R1(config)#ip route 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 172.16.20.2

3. On R2, we also just add the 192.168.10.0/24 network via the gateway 172.16.20.1

R2>en
R2#conf t
R2(config)#ip route 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0 172.16.20.1

4. On R3, read below:

R3>en
R3#conf t
R3(config)#ip route 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0.0 10.0.0.1
R3(config)#ip route 172.16.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.0.0.1

5. Now ping all IPs from all routers.

Steps are easy, won’t take you that long. I tried this using both Cisco Packet Tracer and GNS3. Prepare a Router, a switch and a few end-user devices. The switch isn’t really necessary, just so we can connect multiple devices. Follow the steps below and start configuring:

1. Assign an IP address and a subnet mask on the interface that connects to the end-user devices.

2. Make sure the interface is turned on. (by doing, no shutdown)

3. Create a DHCP pool and use the interface address as the default gateway. Type the following commands:

Router>en
Router#conf t
Router(config)#ip dhcp pool name_of_pool
Router(dhcp-config)#network [network ID] [subnet mask]
Router(dhcp-config)#default-router [router or gateway address]

4. Connect the switch or the end-user devices to the router interface where we assigned the default gateway address.

5. Enable DHCP on your end user devices and there you have it.

*From Classful Network @ Wikipedia

The need for networks grows stronger every day. This is why the subdivision of networks becomes necessary, and this is called Subnetting – dividing a single network into two or more networks, called subnets.

Parts of a subnet: Network ID, Broadcast address and host range. Here’s how to subnet a network:

198.224.101.56
255.255.255.192

Convert each octet to binary, which will give us:

11000110.11100000.01100101.00111000
11111111.11111111.11111111.11000000

Now, using what we call AND binary operation, we get the following result in binary form.

11000110.11100000.01100101.00000000

In Decimal form, this is 198.224.101.0 which is now our – Network ID. Now, we only need our IP range and the broadcast address to complete the subnet.

To get the host range/IP range, convert the given subnet mask into binary, which gives us: 11111111.11111111.11111111.11000000
The number of 0s on our subnet mask’s binary form, becomes the exponential power of 2, which in result, gives us our number of hosts – 64

This means we have 64 IPs on our subnetwork including the Network ID and the broadcast address. Remember: Network ID is always the first IP on the subnet, and broadcast address is the last. So with the Network ID and the number of hosts provided, our broadcast address would be:

198.224.101.0 + 64 hosts gives us the range of 198.224.101.0 – 198.224.101.63

Therefore, our broadcast address is 198.224.101.63 and our usable host range starts at 198.224.101.1 to 198.224.101.62.

A quicker way to do it is to eliminate the first step and go to step 2 (convert to binary the subnet mask, get the number of 0s for your exponential power of 2) as that gives you the number of hosts, and starting from the top of the network, increment your way down to the range where your IP resides. =)

Wrote the song earlier today and recorded it with my keyboard + Red Dot Forever (Midi recorder) + Audacity + CDR King Microphone (lol). It’s a song about the love of God in my life and what it does to me. Hope you get blessed. Enjoy! Oh by the way. The song is very raw. Like raw, raw. Don’t mind the noise and everything else. I’m not a very good keyboard player, not a very good singer either so drop me a line or two if you have suggestions on how to improve the quality of everything in this song. Hehe I’d value your input lol. Feel free to share (Lyrics below)

Love Came Down

Love came down and rained on me

Overflows with grace on me

Came to my rescue

When the world has turned away

Light on the shadows

This love has captured me

Now i know this love is what makes me complete

I know this love is the reason i live

And all that i am

And all that i’d be

All to you I give

Love broke all the chains off me

Took all the shackles off my feet

And i wont deny it

Love has set His eyes on me

Light on the shadows

This love has set me free

How time flies. I’m officially free from all chores and tasks this hour. I’m taking this time to review the things I need to get done, and things I need to buy. Just a reminder to self. Hmmm, where do I start. Okay let me start with the things I need to do (and not do) this month.

March:

Need to finish reading Networking for Dummies 9th Edition.
Need to finish reading The Jesus I Never Knew (long overdue).
Will not comb my hair. For real.
Blog as often as possible (my 3 blogs)
Manage the forum well.
Will NOT change my blog themes, on ALL my websites. I promise. (It’s a hard habit to break, but when you gotta, you gotta)
Record at least one piano piece. Or with some vocals. Or an entire song.
Not gunna get my driver’s license yet. Not enough money to pay off all the hassle T_T (hate lining up)
Not gunna practice driving. Not getting a license yet anyway. Will only ask my father to drive me wherever I need to be.

The aforementioned statements are bound to change without prior notice lol.

Things to buy this March:

Nothing that’s not a need. Saving up for April.

Now I feel stupid putting that list up (things to buy). Anywho. I need to get my adsense cash like asap. So I can buy more stuff lol. I know, let me write my things-to-buy list for this year, not just March.

Things to get this year:

Parisian boots
Wall covering or wall paint. Whichever is cheaper and more elegant looking
Video Cam. A must have for my sister to start creating mini films (and I’m the main character)
Keyboard bag. So I can carry my keyboard anywhere with ease.
Vacuum cleaner.
New rice cooker (one we have now is almost dead)
Juicer/blender
Hillsong and Don Moen DVDs (or Jars of Clay, Jeremy Camp, etc.)
A network-related certificate dum dum dum
Car window tint and car paint
Driver’s license
Paypal Money for my hosting renewal
New furniture for the house

I might just add some things here when I find the need to. For now, I’m aok with this. Might as well check it whenever I have time, so I can get reminded. Of course, above all… will be spending more time with God, and get to know Him more. xoxo
