The sun is the biggest source of energy for the earth. The energy that actually reaches the earth is about 400,000,000,000,000 kilowatt hours per day. This energy is converted into food by plants. The capacity of the doing work is called energy. Coal, petroleum, natural gas, wood, water, air, sun, tide, geothermal, etc. are the other form of energy. Great amount of heat deep into the earth is known as geothermal energy. Mechanical or electrical power generated by the wind is called wind energy. The energy stored in the nuclei of the atoms is called nuclear energy. Biomass, garbage, sea tides, solar energy are the alternate sources of energy.

Energy Conservation

Energy conservation is the practice of reducing the quantity of energy used on every level. This can be achieved through efficient & rational use of energy. Energy conservation reduces the energy consumption and energy demand per head. The reduced energy demand can employ better flexibility for selecting the most preferred methods of energy production. Conserve energy is often the most economical solution to energy shortages, and is a better alternative to increased energy production.

Remember

“Conservation of energy is the production of energy itself.”

In the other words conservation is nothing but careful and rational use of resources. Different resources can be conserved by the different methods.

Forest Conservation
Forests can be conserved by protecting it from fire and diseased and indiscriminate cutting of trees. Some times, wildfires have caused large scale damage to private and or public property. It destroying many homes and causing deaths, particularly when they have reached urban areas. Wildfires are extremely dangerous, but some are purposely caused.

Wild Life Conservation
Wild life can be conserved by providing them with natural environment and indiscriminate hunting and putting ban on illegal trade on wildlife products. “Every 20 minutes, the world adds another 3,500 human lives but loses one or more entire species of animal or plant life – at least 27,000 species per year.” (Source: PBS). “At the present rates of extinction, as many as 20% of the world's 7-15 million species could be gone in the next 30 years. This rate of extinction has been unprecedented since the disappearance of dinosaurs 65 million years ago.” (Source: WWF).

Water Conservation
Water can be conserved by restricting water supply in the urban areas, increasing water charges and preventing water pollution. Most people know that water is a scarce and limited resource. Of all the water in the world, about 97% is seawater, 2% is polar ice and only a very small 1% is fresh water. The amount of water in the world remains the same - it never changes - so conservation of the scarce water supply we have is critical to the sustainability of our state.

Marine Conservation
Marine resources can be conserved by avoiding over fishing and water pollution. The journal Science published a four-year study in November 2006, which predicted that, at prevailing trends, the world would run out of wild-caught seafood in 2048.

The temperature of the earth surface is increase by 1°C in last century & it may shoots up by approximately 1.1 °C to 6.4 °C at the end of the 21st century.

The Earth receives energy from the Sun. Observed that 30% of the energy is reflected by the Earth and remaining 70% is absorbed by land, atmosphere and ocean. Greenhouse gases (water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and chlorofluorocarbons.) produced by fossil fuel burning, prevent most of the outgoing infrared radiation from surface of the atmosphere. Naturally, this turns into increasing atmospheric temperature.

The following diagram will help better understanding climate change.

Major Environmental Issues
This blog is specially for the people who are still unaware of such issues.

The awareness about environmental conservation rises, because now the days people feel the hazards of contamination of environment. The physical and biological world in which we lived is called environment. In the other word environment is nothing but the surrounding in which we live.

Let we know about 'environment' in brief. Sunlight, rain, temperature, pressure, humidity, wind, etc. are the meteorological factors of environment. The region of air close to the earth up to 10 km height is known as troposphere. It has the direct impact on biosphere. The region above the troposphere is called stratosphere. The blanket of the air surround earth is called atmosphere.

Rapid growth of urbanization and industrialization are two main causes of pollution. This turns into environmental disorders. The some of the major environmental issues rose due to human activities are as follows:

Climate Change

Conservation

Energy

Intensive Farming

Land Degradation

Soil

Nuclear Issues

Over Population

Ozone Depletion

Pollution

Resource Depletion

Toxins

Waste

I will discus all these current environmental issues in my future posts.

Thanks for your time.
