Everyone had a time in their youth where the only thing that mattered was the five seconds in front of their face, and how fun they could possibly make that exact moment. Nice Purse is the epitome of that time of your life, because they’re living it right now. Their album Black Medal (not Metal, sorry Norway), is a half hour of what sounds like lighthearted, innocent 50’s pop, but proves to be much more when it delves into the darker aspects of young love, young lust, and acid trips. These kids, headed by France Camp and Ian Davis, make you reminisce so hard during Black Medal that you won’t know whether you were day dreaming or if you were awake at the end (Inception? eh forget it). This album would be a guilty pleasure if it wasn’t so well crafted. Whether you go back to school in the fall or not, get these summer-friendly tunes (out tomorrow) and let this album ride you through the Fall and beyond.

Shameless self-promoters shouldn’t get all the hype! Lesser Knowns is an ATF segment that features brilliant artsists who remain hidden deep within the crevices of the internet. Forgotten projects, closet geniuses, half-thoughts and more.

A few dozen people in Lansing came out to the capital building today to express their opposition to a bill proposed by Rep. Kim Meltzer that mirrors Arizona’s SB1070. The law would require local police officers to question people who they think may be undocumented, thus legalizing racial profiling.

As we stood protesting peacefully, there were two male citizens walking around us with guns on their hips. At one point, one of them opened the trunk of a nearby car and pulled out a shotgun, cocking it loudly. It was a blatant act of intimidation, but they claimed they were doing it for “safety reasons” once asked about it. Above is a video recap of what happened.

There will also be a protest at the steps of the capital building in downtown Lansing on August 2nd @ 5pm. The community will come together to voice its opposition to legislation proposed by Rep. Kim Meltzer that mirrors Arizona’s racist SB1070, which would essentially legalize racial profiling:
