Point and shoot film cameras

Today I'm going to write about my point and shoot film cameras. I have three point and shoot film cameras that I bought in the last two years. The three have a similar focal distance, around 35mm, and the same aperture, 2.8. Each one have some strong points different than the others.

But why point and shoot film cameras? At first, I bought the first one, because is a cheap way to have a film camera. But now, my vision of photography evolved in a way that I feel that point and shoot cameras are the perfect gear for me. I don't like big bulky cameras, and for that reason I don't have a DSLR. All my cameras are quite small. Lately I saw in film a way to improve my photography. To slow down and think more carefully every shoot. And slow down doesn't mean take care of all the parameters. Usually your camera measures the light a lot better than you. For me is take care of the parameters that your camera can't take care, and is what really makes a picture different.

Olympus mju-II
This was my first own film camera. I bought in the online store ffordes, a great place to buy used photography stuff. Has a fixed 35mm 2.8 lens, a bit soft in the corners wide open, but sharp when stops down. A fully automatic camera, the only thing that you can control is the flash and the metering mode, actually this is not very usual in this cameras. The best point of this camera is that is tiny, perfect to bring everywhere. That this is for what I use it. Now I have loaded with Superia 200 film, a cheap and quite good film.

Konica Big Mini F
Last year, when I went to Japan, I wanted to buy a new film camera. Between my options, the one that had more options was the Contax T2. I were the first days looking for one but couldn't find one that I liked. Actually found one, but when I came back to the store where I found, the camera wasn't there. So the days passed and one of the last I went to Kawagoe, a village not so far from Tokyo. There we found a Hard-off store, and how we went to all Book-off stores that we found, you never know when you are going to find a treasure, we go in to take a look. Wasn't exactly like the Book-off stores, the name wasn't the same but the logo was quite similar. Had a lot more type of things, like cameras. And there was where I found it, a Konica Big Mini F. And bought it. And a bit after that, I found a photography store where I bought a roll of film. Yes, in Japan is still easy to buy film, I love you Japan! The Konica Big Mini F has a fixed 35mm 2.8 lens too, that performs better in the corners than the one in the mju-II. Fully automatic but, besides the flash controls, you also can select exposure compensation between -1.5, 0 or +1.5. Isn't small as the mju-II but not big and very light. What don't like is that doesn't have a lens cap and the lens is always exposed. Currently I don't have film loaded on it.

Contax T2
After going to Kawagoe, we went to Nakano. A visit to Nakano Broadway is mandatory if you go to Japan. While the other people go in, I went to the photography stores near there. I wasn't give it up yet. And yes, it was there. A Contax T2 and with a quite good price. Had some small scratches but nothing to worry about. I bought immediately and loaded with a film that wanted to try since some time ago, Natura 1600. The Contax T2 is bigger and heavier than the two others. Build like a tank, the exterior is make of titanium. The lens are a fixed Carl Zeiss 38mm 2.8. Ultra sharp, a lot more than the other. This one is more configurable, too. You can use in P mode and also in aperture priority. And you can choose the exposure compensation between -2 and +2 in half steps. Also has manual focus, so you can use zone focus. But don't really needed because the autofocus is fast. Now is loaded with Provia 400, one of the last rolls that will be able to shoot of that this amazing slides film.

New Year Purposes

After a quite weird year, that I felt that passed very fast and wasn't very profitable, I'm going to share with you a short list of purposes for this new year:

Write more on my blog than past years. This is not difficult, only need one more post to write more than the last 2 years.
Shoot more film and less digital. Shooting film I'm more careful than with digital, so this will help me improve in photography. I have the purpose to shoot at least 2 rolls per month.
Don't buy more gear. No more cameras and lenses this year. Digital or film. I need to learn to use at full power the one that I have.
Finish the year with less things. Sometimes I bought things only for the pleasure that made bought it. I have tons of things that I don't use or don't need anymore. Want to don't buy again useless things and get rid of the ones that I have.
Don't forget important people. I'm not very sociable, sure, but this last year I had forgotten some nice people and don't want that will happen again.
Finish one android application, besides work. I want to upload an app to Google Play before year finish.
Less procrastination. The holy grail.

A week with the Galaxy S4

Hi people! Has been a very long time since my last post, but you know, blah, blah, blah... [insert here the excuses you would love to read]

Since last week, I'm a lucky owner of a brand new Galaxy S4, the new top range phone of Samsung. And I want to share my first feelings with you. The first what you think when somebody talks about a 5" screen for a phone is, that is huge! Won't be comfortable to use! So, for that reason, when S4 was showed with that screen size, I went to check which was the size compared with the S3. I have one S3 at work and I found it very comfortable to use despite also have a big screen. And here was the surprise, the S4 is smaller! So didn't have too much doubts that would be a device comfortable to use too. And I could check it since first day. Even I can use it with only one hand, and I don't have big hands at all.

About the performance, my previous phone was the Galaxy S, so now I found that all works nice and smooth. One of the first things I did was install Go Launcher Ex, that I love a lot more than the Samsung one. A lot of Samsung programs come installed too. One quite curious is to use the phone as TV remote control. The app also suggest you shows that you would like. For that reason one of the new things included in this Galaxy is a infrared sensor. Actually the phone is full of sensors to do things with uncertain utility. I disabled all, but when was taking the picture this afternoon I realized that one of the sensors on the top was on, emitting an intermittent non-visible light, that was able to see in the camera screen. And I have no idea for what is used that...

The screen is amazing! Crisp sharp and very saturated colors and a lot better corrected than previous AMOLED screens. The camera I also great. The pictures are sharp, and the color looks great even with any correction.

I'm very happy with my new phone. Fill all my needs very well. And also have a good battery life, about 2 days in normal use, quite good for these days. See you soon!

Memories of Paris - 2011-06-12

Second day on Paris started. Was able to sleep pretty well although was on the floor. Finished the day before very tired. So after a good sleep, time for a good breakfast. We went to a Tunisian place to eat something that don't remember the name. But was nice, its flavor was like "churros" but with a diferent shape.

When we finished to have breakfast, started another walk arround diferent places of Paris.

With also time for a sweet mint tea before lunch.

After lunch, and get our's strength back, we continued our walk that finished in the Eiffel tower.

Then we were a bit hungry, so was time for a break and had a mid afternoon snack.

After that, was still very soon to have dinner and had visited all the main places of Paris. So to spend time we decided to go to take a look to a new underground line that Bernat heared that the design of the stations was diferent of the usual. But at last were normal stations... The most special of that line is that trains didn't have driver. This is the only one a bit diferent, with a lot of vegetation in it, like a rainforest:

And later was time to had dinner. I chose one plate plate more typical of the south of France than the north, le Cassoulet:

Yes, crêpes. Can't left France without try them. After dinner still visited more places, this time Sacré Coeur and Louvre at night.

And that was the last we did that day. Later came back to home, very tired , to sleep.

Memories of Japan - 2010-08-09 - 4. Cooking and singing

The second night in Japan and the first night in our new hotel finished, so we woke up. Man, this hotel was a palace compared with the previous one. Besides, we had free breakfast! For breakfast there was some oriental and occidental food. So I tried a bit of all.

After breakfast was time to go out to visit Asakusa. When arrived there, we were taking a walk arround all the souvenir stores near the Sensoji temple and later in the temple complex. There I praid to have a great travel with my friends. We also looked our fortune and finished we three of us with bad fortune... but we tied our papers and our bad luck went away :)

We spent all the morning there, so when we finish the visit was time to have lunch. For lunch we decided to try an okonomiyaki's place when you had to cook your food. The final result doesn't seems an okonomiyaki but was nice, and fun.

After lunch we went to the Ueno park. When we finished to visit some of the temples in the park, we went to the lake. There Laia did one of the biggest discoveries of the travel, Suika soda! Soda with watermelon flavor. Is very very nice! But before that great moment of the discovery, my three friends took a boat in the lake and I prefered took a walk arround the lake. Then was when I was assault by a crows flock. Luckily was able to run away alive. Also remember that there, the cicadas made a lot of noise.

Later we left Ueno park and went to the Tokyo University. They have a lake inside the university! In my faculty was hard to find more than 3 square meters of grass... Also saw the main building. Was nice to see after saw it a lot in Love Hina manga.

After that... Yokoso Akiba!! My first time in Akihabara. Was very exciting! We took a fast walk, don't have much time, and went to have dinner in one of the cheap restaurants that there are there.

And later... yes, after that long day still had energy for more, karaoke time! We had a lot of fun singing. These drained all the energy that remainded in us, so after that came back to the hotel to sleep.

After a long hiatus I'm writing a new blog entry. Not much hapened in last months, the most interesting was a trip through some southeast asian countries. I uploaded a lot of pictures on my flickr and will write some entries about it.

Today also went to watch castells. For today, Minyons anounced two very dificult castells, but after try one of them, 3 de 10 amb folre i manilles, in the first round and don't be able to achieve it, then they tried some easier. Was a shame, hope that they can do another 3 de 10 very soon :)

Memories of Paris - 2011-06-11

Two weekends ago I was in Paris to visit my sister that is there now doing nothi... I mean in an ERASMUS. So like I'm doing with my trip to Japan (promise that will continue Japan posts soon) I'm going to remember the memories of my trip to Paris.

All starts early in the Morning, about 7 o'clock I arrived to the Barcelona airport. There I had breakfast with Rider while was waiting check in to the plane. Then, after a flight of about 2 hours I arrived to Paris airport. There I waited until she and her couple came to pick me up.

Then we went to their house by car. When we arrive, was time to have lunch, so we enjoyed one of that roast chicken that my parents said that was so tasty. At the end was only a normal roast chicken XD

After lunch, time to vist some places. We took a one day metro ticket but didn't use it too much, so we had a very long walk. Here some pictures that I took during the walk.

After that, time to come back to my sister's palace to have dinner. Wait, I said palace? Well let's say that is a very ~~small~~ cozy place ^^. When finished, time to go out again to visit more places. Didn't have to waste my time there. This time we went to visit Eiffel Tower at night.

After that was definitive time to go to sleep. So we came back to their house, that tomorrow would be another very busy day.

This week loot 4

Last weekend I wasn't here, I was in Paris, so I couldn't write a post about the loot of last week. That consist in the new Haruhi novel, wrote in two volumes, and the second ending of K-On!! single, "No, Thank you!".

It's a shame that I can't read it. I read the preview that is the only part that is translated just now and is good. Hope that will be translated soon.

This week I either expect something special for arrive, but I finished with a very good loot. And, futhermore, a Haruhi special loot.

This week Haruhi special loot contains two novels, well, is the same novel, the Rampage of Haruhi Suzumiya, but in soft-cover and hard-cover version, and three manga, volume 11 and 12 of Haruhi manga in Spanish and volume 2 of Haruhi-chan in English.

For the next week, I'm waiting for something very special, and also Haruhi related. Can you guess what I'm talking about? :P

This week loot 2

This week I didn't think that was going to write a new post about something that I received, but last Thursday I received a non-expected parcel. Well, non-expected because I totally forget about it. And its content was, Kuroneko nendoroid.

I love the faces with she comes. It's like she is saying: "There is no way that Meruru can be better than Masquerade!". But she also comes with Meruru DVD, And BRS too, besides Masquerade DVD. What didn't like me is that only comes with a piece of plastic and the DVD covers are stickers for that piece. That's annoying, you can't change between them too much.

And that was the loot of this week. Let's see if next week appears something unexpected too.

Hi people! Passed long time since my last post, but I started to work and I'm a bit busy, and weekends I'm usually a bit tired. All of that made that I didn't write anything all this time.

Now I'm going to start a new section that I saw in some other blogs. In that section I'll show the purchases that I made or received last week. So let's start with the loot of this week.

The first thing in some manga, the first volume of K-on!, the seventh of Lucky Star and the 10 and 11 of Higurashi. Higurashi manga is subdivided in arcs, and each arc is drawn by a different author.

Next, two yummy bento books. There are a lot of cute ideas for bento presentation in there. Hope that soon have time to prepare some of their recipes.

And the last, and the worst... my first 3DS game, Puzzle Bobble Universe. Is the worst game of Puzzle Bobble saga that I ever seen. You can't choose difficult level in puzzle mode, is always in easy... that's too easy for me! and boring... And also only have two modes, puzzle mode and challenge mode. Challenge mode is also very easy even playing hard level... Until you reach level 700 it doesn't become a bit interesting... That's a lot of time! And the game doesn't have anything more. No multiplayer, no battle mode, no extra 3DS functions... If I know that I didn't buy it ¬¬

Well, that's all for this week. I don't think that all weeks will write a post like that, don't have thinks to show all weeks. But when I have something new, I'll write a new one. Meantime I'll try to write again other kind of post.

Supercell - Today Is A Beautiful Day

Today I'm going to talk about the music group that lately became my favourite and their new album. They are supercell, and their new album, Today Is A Beautiful Day, was released about a week ago. I ordered it then and today arrived.

Supercell started as a doujin music group, using Hatsune Miku's voice in their songs, but thanks to niconico, they won popularity very fast. Now are a professional music group that collaborates with a great singer, Nagi. Today Is A Beautiful Day is a compilation of some single songs released before and some new songs.

About the songs of this album, what can I say... I love them. They didn't use Miku in any song but I love supercell even more without Miku. Some songs, I had listened them, because as I said before, some are from old singles, but are great. Well, I love supercell music, what can I say... XD Here some videos of some songs of this album: Perfect Day, Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari, Sayonara Memories.

I bought the special edition of the album. This surprised me a bit, because I thought that only came with a DVD as extra but also came with a illustration book and a guitar pick of supercell.

Well, that's all. I'm going to continue enjoying of the great music of Today Is A Beautiful Day.

Nintendo 3DS

Yes, I got one. I preordered it some time ago and yesterday was the release date here in Europe. But I was lucky and could enjoy it one day before. At Thursday noon I received a call saying that I could go to pick up my 3DS. And well, I went and was enjoying all the afternoon trying it.

I didn't buy any 3DS game. Don't find indispensable any of the currently available, so I prefer wait for now and I'll use it to play pokémon white. I preordered Zelda remake for 3DS but I don't know when will be released.

The box of the European 3DS is bigger than the box that I saw in videos of Japanese 3DS unboxings. That is because the European AC adapter is bigger. But for the rest, the box contains the same things: the manual, the charging base, the AC adapter, some AR cards and the console.

The external appearance I found better than I saw in pictures. I got the Cosmos Black version. The color isn't black, is more a dark gray that gives a pretty and smart look. The buttons, sliders and the analog stick also seems better than expected.

The 3D effect is awesome. More impressive that expected. It's like the effect that you have using 3D glasses in some TV or monitors but the fact that you don't need glasses makes it amazing. Is something that I hadn't see before and difficult to describe if you don't see by yourself.

As I said, I didn't buy any 3DS game, so I only can talk about preinstalled software. The Mii creator is very fun, when it creates your Mii with a picture of you. The AR games are very easy, more that games, I call it demos about what can be done with this technology. Face Raiders and music player I didn't try it yet. The 3D camera is awful... worse than I expected. There are other apps that aren't available yet, like an internet browser, and will be enabled in future firmware updates.

In conclusion, I'm very happy with this purchase. Now let's wait that soon will release better games that the currently available. It's also a shame that isn't region free, so hope that the good games will reach the old continent.

I have internet at home again

After about one month and a half, finally I have internet connection at home again. I'm not really happy as I could be because my new ISP promised me a bandwith between 30Mbps and 20Mbps but when activated the connection was only between 5Mbps and 6Mbps... After tell them that, they downgrade my connection from VDSL to ADSL2+ and now I have a bandwith between 7,5Mbps and 8Mbps. Well, that's nearly two times what gave me my old ISP with the same connection... So I guess that should be happy with it.

Hope that now that have internet connection again will write more posts in my blog, because lately I didn't write too much. See you in my next post!

International Saimoe League 2011 started

It's been a while from my last post. I'm still without internet connection at home so I'm going to write a fast post about ISML, who started yesterday the preliminary phase.

For who doesn't know, ISML is one of the three biggest saimoe tournaments, and the tournament where occidental people have easier to participate. About three weeks ago started nomination period, where people nominated their favourite characters. And yesterday, as I said before, started the real tournament, with very hard to decide who choice matches like, between Misaka and Last Order, Ayase and Saten or Misuzu and Illya. I think that this season all the characters will be very close, more than last season, and will be very hard to predict who will win.

If you want to know who I voted for, I added a page to my blog where I'm going to put my choices every round. And for finish, I have to ask all of you that vote for Kuroko, this season she have to pass to regular season!

Without internet connection at home

If these last days I didn't update my blog isn't because I don't have nothing to post, is because I don't have internet connection at home.

I were trying to change to an another ISP an for some reason, now I have to wait some weeks without internet connection. In part is my fault, for being insecure and don't look all the options that I have before decide for one.

Well, luckily I can connect to internet with my laptop at library and avoid that the number of posts without read of my Google Reader can grow without control XD

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya DVD limited edition unbox

Two days ago, after a whole month, my DVD copy of the Haruhi movie finally arrived. Today I unboxed it and took some pictures of the extras that come with it. And special mention to the two bookmarks were Yuki wrote her messages to Kyon that I didn't know that come with it.

Hourou Musuko (Wandering Son) - First impressions

This was one of the animes that I wanted to watch more this season. And for the no very good quality of this season anime, Madoka Magica disappointed me a bit, for me is the best anime of this season that I watched.

The animation is very good, using soft colors that makes it very nice. The music is awesome, and combines very good with story in each moment of the episode. The seiyu cast is also great, I didn't know that was working in it Mizuki Nana, Horie Yui and Toyosaki Aki. And the story seems that will be sweet and touching.

The only negative point that I found is that story is a bit confusing at the beginning because there are a lot of characters and, the relation between them, isn't explained. So I was a bit lost at first. Hope that will explain it better in next episodes. Anyway, seems that will be a great anime.

Memories of Japan - 2010-08-08 - 3. Cuteness, hamburger and walk to Shibuya

Our first full day in Japan starts and we wake up in our disastrous first hotel. Luckily, the following hotels was all good. Everybody picked up their baggage and I took some pictures of our room. Bye bye horrible hotel, hope don't see you again.

After that, we went to our new hotel. Toyoko inn if I remember well. This time was a western style hotel with normal beds, but too much better than the other one. Well this really seems an hotel, the other one... I can't define. We left our baggage there and went out. Still was too early to do the check in. So we went to Asakusa to find a place to have breakfast. And we found a little coffee shop where, after our first tries to communicate, enjoyed delicious pancakes.

After breakfast, went to Harajuku. And there, we found our first, and more mythical, kawaii store, Kiddy Land. We spent some time in the seven floors of this big store full of cuteness. Later, we went to visit Meiji Jingu shrine. We spent our time there until was time to have lunch.

To have lunch, we went to Jonathan's. That's the place in the world where I ate the best hamburgers that I tasted. Totemo Oishiii~ And while my co-travelers chose more conventional drinks, I tasted Melon Fanta. Was very sweet! But tasted good.

After lunch, we decided try to go from there to Shibuya walking. Was fun. We stopped in a music store, with lots of floors, too. In the anime section was playing "No, Thank you!", the second K-ON!! ending. That is maybe the song that I listened more in this travel. We also stopped in a clothes shop that had One Piece posters outside.

After walk some time, we arrived to the mythical Shibuya crossroads. We took some pictures of the crossroads and some more of the Hachiko statue. Later, finally was time to go to the first manga and anime related place, Shibuya's Mandarake. I enjoyed a lot walking through bookcases with lots and lots of manga. There I also found some figurines and nendoroids hard to find with expensive prices. But I bought nothing that day.

After Mandarake's visit, was time to have dinner. We went to a typical Okinawa restaurant but without knowing it. Later, the waiter, that was very nice person, explained to us. Also explained and suggested some plates to choose. We enjoyed of a bit expensive but very good dinner.

After dinner, was time to come back to our new hotel. We still had to do the check in. After that, we went to our rooms. I checked my mail account, took a shower and watched TV a bit while the other people also checked their mail. And when everybody finished, bed time. Oyasumi!

Puella Magi Madoka Magica - First impressions

When I started to watch this first episode, I didn't remember that this anime is produced by Shaft. But only, see the first frame, I remembered it. That weird scenery... But well, that was in a dream, and didn't go to far with the weirdness in these first scenes.

The following went well until when was near the end of the episode, when Madoka saves Kyubey. In that moment, Shaft's weirdness appear more than was showed before...

That's which don't like me of this episode, Shaft is being Shaft... Almost all the episode is good and a little of Shaft's weirdness isn't bad, but what happens in that scene is too much.

For the rest of the episode, I liked. Remembers Sakura and Nanoha, two magical girl anime that I liked. Hope that in the rest of the episodes won't be too much Shaft weird paranoias and will be a good anime.

This year is about to finish and I'm going to try to do a ranking with the best ten anime of this year that I saw. Is difficult to choice the order of some of the anime, because all have some good and some bad things, but well, this is my choice.

3. Angel Beats!
I had lots of hopes in this anime. I love all that Jun Maeda does. The beginning was a bit poor but the quality was raising. As I expected have some touching and crying moments. And the end is a bittersweet end as I expected, too. A good anime of the kind of anime that I like.

2. K-ON!!
Kyoani did a very great job with the second season of K-ON!. This time, Mugi is more awesome. Ritsu isn't a unuseful character, I didn't like Ritsu in the first season but in this I liked. Yui is Yui. Ui is the perfect waifu. And the other characters are as good as in the first season. All the season was very good but for me the best episode was the last concert in the school festival, very touching. I liked it a lot.

1. Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu
The best Haruhi novel adapted to anime. Kyoani had to do very bad to do a bad movie. But that isn't the case and did a great and awesome work of art. A very good adaption of the novel. The only detail that I didn't like is that they abused a bit of the 3D. But the rest is great. I love it.

Special mention: Toaru Kagaku no Railgun
I didn't know if include this anime in the ranking, because it started in 2009 but finished in 2010. Railgun is a very special anime for me for some reasons. If it was in, would be in the second place.

Well, only about two hours for the next year so...

Memories of Japan - 2010-08-07 - 2. There's no way Japan can be this hot!

After an uncountable number of hours flying in a plane, we arrived to Narita airport. Finally were in Japan! A new day just started and we were exhausted, couldn't sleep too much at plane. After the controls and pick up our baggage, we went to exchange some euros for yens. Later go to take the train that took us to the Ueno Station. And now finally in Tokyo!

We came out of the station and... What's this heat!? We just discovered hot Japanese climate at summer. With lots of hours without sleep and with an insane heat, we went to our first hotel in Tokyo. It was situated at North of Asakusa. We arrived, left our suitcases and went to have lunch.

Our first lunch in Japan was in a small restaurant that almost all that they only had was yakisoba and takoyaki. Well, actually they also had some other "yaki" things. All was delicious, our first meal in Japan!

After lunch, we took a walk for the surrounding area near the hotel. Were waiting that was time to do the check in. We visited some shrines in that walk, knowing nothing about them.

When was time, came back to the hotel. And when went to our rooms, discovered some problems in them. In one, the shower didn't work, and the other had leaking water on the ceiling! Well, we went to claim and they offered move us to another hotel, but from the next day. We accepted it and came back to our rooms to take a shower.

Mapo Tofu!

Later, we went out again. This time took a walk through Asakusa. Looked for a place to have dinner. And that dinner was special, because was the first time that I tasted Mapo Tofu! Yes, when I saw it, couldn't choose another plate. So I enjoyed a lot my spicy Mapo Tofu.

After dinner came back to the hotel. And finally, after lots of hours, was time to go to sleep.

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya DVD/BD release

Yes, today was the great day. The day of the Haruhi's movie DVD/BD release. This movie is based in the 4th novel, for me the best of Haruhi novels until now. And this date wasn't chosen randomly, was chosen because is an important date in the novel/movie. But I'm not going say more about it, watch the movie or read the novel :P

Like with the Nanoha movie, but this time without a huge pile of boxes that disappeared magically, some of the stores of Akihabara planned an small special event, with some people cosplayed of characters of the movie and special presents for purchase the movie. Thanks to akibablog, we can enjoy some images.

Today I also received an email from amiami saying that my movie was shipped. I thought that they won't send it until Monday, but I was wrong. I bought the special edition DVD version. Hope that arrive soon!
