Abu Dhabi: Air-conditioned bus shelters made their debut in the capital after they were launched by transport officials.
Twenty new shelters were commissioned on Wednesday and will provide a convenient way for the public to wait for buses, especially in the summer.
These are the first batch of shelters planned across the city. The emirate plans to have 550 similar shelters, said Saeed Al Hameli, general manager of the Bus Office at the Department of Transport (DoT).

ABU DHABI — Vehicle owners in the Capital will have to pay fees for parking in high-demand city centre locations from next month, according to a media release on Sunday.
The new policies to be rolled out by the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (ADDOT) in July to tackle the growing shortage of parking space in the capital will also specify fines for those violating the parking rules.

Dubai: British holidaymakers have been warned they face serious consequences if they are caught sunbathing topless or behaving indecently in the UAE.

The advice, issued by the British Government's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on Tuesday, follows numerous high profile cases of British travellers getting into trouble on foreign shores, including several in the UAE.
The updated warning is part of the FCO's 'Know Before You Go' campaign, which was launched in 2001 to help keep Brits safe and healthy abroad. The new advice says "thousands of British tourists risk arrest by not checking local laws and customs before they bare all abroad".

GCC hopeful of UAE's participation in monetary union

Gulf oil producers are still hopeful the UAE will eventually join the monetary union they plan to launch, possibly next year, despite the country's decision last month to withdraw, a senior Gulf official said yesterday.
Four GCC states are going ahead with the launch despite UAE's and Oman's pullout. Their foreign ministers are scheduled to sign the pact this week, said Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Attiyah, GCC Secretary-General.
