WINTER COURT

Winter Court is the annual formal banquet for ACA high school students. At this event, the seniors who choose to join the alumni group, the New Order of Augustine, will be inducted and a King & Queen of Winter Court will be crowned. The theme for Winter Court this year is “Winter in Narnia” and it will be held on Friday, January 25th, at 6:00 p.m. at Sanctuary Church (7100 E. 31st Street, Tulsa). Tickets for Winter Court are $39 per person and are ON SALE NOW. We have to give a count to the caterer on Jan. 18th, so students should not delay in getting their tickets! Young ladies must get their dress checked for modesty by Miss Crow at the school, or by sending front & back pictures of the student in her dress to crowj@acatulsa.org . Young men must wear a suit & tie or a tux to Winter Court. SCHOOL WILL DISMISS AT NOON ON JANUARY 25TH FOR ALL GRADES. Please call the school office if you have any questions.

“CHITTY, CHITTY, BANG, BANG” AUDITIONS

ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES 4 - 8 are invited to attend the FREE Audition Workshop for the spring musical “Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang” on Saturday, January 19th, at 9:00 a.m. Students will learn about the show and will learn a song and dance for their audition. Please encourage your students to attend this fun workshop! More information and registration forms are attached below.

ACA SKATE NIGHT

Our 5th annual All School Skate Night will be held on Thursday, January 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Skateland (11th & Sheridan). Cost is only $5.00 per person to skate, and proceeds will benefit our Extended Day Program (new games, puzzles, toys, etc.). The Grammar class with the most in attendance and the House with the most in attendance will each win a donut party! SINGING VALENTINES

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Have you considered sending your Valentine a SINGING VALENTINE? Luminis will be taking orders starting next week for Singing Valentines. This talented quartet will meet your sweetheart, friend, or family member at any location in the Tulsa or Broken Arrow area. Cost is $25 and includes 2 songs, candy, a personal message, and a Valentine all delivered to the location you choose. THIS MONTH ONLY FOR ACA FAMILIES: if you pre-order IN JANUARY we will reduce the cost to $20 per order. SPACE IS LIMITED - don’t delay. YEARBOOKS NOW ON SALE

The 2018-2019 ACA yearbook is on sale now! It can only be ordered online at www.treering.com (click on the “Buy Yearbook” button). If you have ordered one in the past couple of years, you can log-in using your existing password and account. If you have never ordered an ACA yearbook before, you will need to put in the following code to set up your account: 1014725638033905 You will have to select your student’s teacher, so secondary students should list their House Sponsor in that area. Each yearbook comes with two free pages that you can personalize with your own pictures! (You can purchase additional pages to personalize, if you want/need more than two.) And you can order one for each student or one for the family. Call the school office if you have any questions.

SECOND SEMESTER BEGINS

We hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing break… but all good things come to an end. Students report back to school tomorrow, January 3rd, at 8:00 a.m. for the beginning of 2nd Semester! On Friday, January 4th, we have our annual Alumni Day and our secondary class schedule will be adjusted to allow time for our alumni to meet with our current students. You will find the adjusted schedule attached below. If you know any ACA Alumni, please let them know that we would love to see them on Friday!

STAFF CHANGES

Dear Parents,

Changes are inevitable where human organizations are concerned. At the end of last semester, Mr. Jacob McIntosh, chairman of our science department, announced that he would be leaving ACA to accept a position as the new Executive Director of Camp Loughridge. We are sad to see him go, but we pray he will bring good success to that ministry.

To cover his classes with qualified people has required some moving around of staff. We have hired Mrs. Aleisha Autrey to cover three 6th grade classes so that Mrs. Anderson can move up to handle the Intro to Computer Science class, the STEM class, and Pre-algebra. Mrs. Morgan, with her background in chemistry, will move from Pre-Algebra to the Chemistry class and will serve as our new science department chairperson. Mr. Pirtle has a background in physics, so he will add the Physics class to his teaching schedule. Mrs. Schmidt will take over as sponsor of Dragon House due to Mrs. Anderson’s new responsibilities. Because of my many years of experience in Stagecraft, I will lead that class with the help of Mrs. Autrey.

We will have a great second semester! I am confident in the people handling these classes and in the adaptability of our students who will continue to try their best and succeed in each area. We will have an assembly at 8:00 tomorrow morning to go over the changes with the students. I encourage you to call me if you have any questions.

‘Tis the season for baking and snacking! Keep an eye out for Box Tops on any items you purchase over the holidays. General Mills Cereals, Yoplait, Ziploc, and Pillsbury are just a few of the many products that have Box Tops on their packaging. Cut them out and turn them into the school office. Our school receives 10 cents for each Box Top! Attached below is a fun collection sheet to help you corral all of your clipped Box Tops.

CHRISTMAS QUILT EVENT

We had a huge turn out for our Christmas Quilt event last Friday evening… Thank you for coming! Our students did a wonderful job with their songs and the play, and we are so very proud of all of them. We really appreciate all of those who donated cookies for the fellowship time, and those who gave in the offering to bless the teachers & staff. If you were not able to attend, and would still like to give a gift toward the teachers’ Christmas bonus, you can do that through this Friday, December 14th. You can drop your gift off at the school office or donate online at: https://www.acatulsa.org/contact/Invest-aca - look for the “Donate” button.

FINAL EXAMS & END OF FIRST SEMESTER

Secondary Final Exams: Students in grades 6 - 12 may be exempted from a final exam if they have no more than 2 absences in that class during the semester (3 tardies count as one absence), have a B or better average in the class, and have no missing work for that class. Teachers will inform their classes who must take the final exam or they may put the information on Gradenet. Final exams for secondary students will be on Wednesday, December 19th and Thursday, December 20th. There will not be lunches available on either of the Final Exam days. Student taking final exams may check in and ask for their exams on Dec. 19 between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and on Dec. 20 between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Students taking final exams must be picked up by 3:15 on Wednesday the 19th, and by 12:45 on Thursday the 20th.

The last day of regular classes for all grades will be Tuesday, December 18th. The school office will close at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 20th, and will re-open at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2nd. Students will report for school on Thursday, January 3rd, for the beginning of second semester.

CHRISTMAS QUILT EVENT THIS FRIDAY

Each year, our families bless the ACA teachers and staff by taking an offering for their Christmas Bonus. This offering takes place during our annual Christmas program, which is being held this Friday evening. In Augustine Christian Academy’s modern interpretation of a quilting bee, our annual Christmas program brings together a beautiful array of talent in one patchwork expression of artistic capabilities through the sharing of song and fellowship. This year, our Christmas Quilt will feature the play “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” as well as special music and a time of fellowship! Plan to join us this Friday, December 7th, at 7:00 p.m. at Highland Park Christian Church (on 31st Street between Sheridan and Yale) for this special time of celebration. Please pray about how you would like to bless the teachers and staff at ACA this Christmas.

If you are unable to join us, you may give your donation online or at the school office prior to the even on Friday evening.

All students participating in the Christmas Quilt event on Friday evening will receive a “Christmas Wear Day” on Wednesday, December 12th.

SPECIAL SECONDARY SCHEDULE THURSDAY

Due to having to cancel school on Monday and Tuesday of this week, the cast and choirs performing at the Christmas Quilt missed having their rehearsal on Tuesday. To give them additional time to rehearse, we are adjusting the secondary class schedule on Thursday to allow them some time in the afternoon. You will find the adjusted schedule below.

AUGUSTINE AT THE MOVIES

The Film Making class is sponsoring a movie night this Friday, November 30th. They will be showing the movie “Lawrence of Arabia” beginning at 6:30 p.m. You can watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3tuBFHuYV4

There is no admission charge, but donations are welcome to help the class with materials and equipment. Bring your snacks and beverages and join us to watch this classic film!

RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN’S “CINDERELLA”

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” opens on the ACA stage THIS Thursday through Sunday, November 15 - 18th. This production features magical transformations, and all the moments you love — the pumpkin, the coach and horses, the glass slipper, the masked ball, and more - plus some surprising new twists. This hilarious and romantic Broadway experience is for anyone who’s ever had a wish, a dream… or a really great pair of shoes.

To encourage our ACA parents to attend and bring family and friends to this exceptional production, we are offering special ticket pricing this weekend as long as we have tickets available.

· If you have already purchased tickets to “Cinderella”, you may purchase additional tickets for only $5 each.

· If you haven’t purchased tickets yet, purchase one Adult ticket for $10 and additional tickets for only $5 each.

· ACA students can purchase student tickets for $5 each.

This show features beautiful costumes and lighting, wonderful singing, comedic and dramatic acting and we have made it very affordable for our families to attend. Please come out and support the arts at ACA. Tickets are still available for all performances. ALL TICKETS ARE RESERVED SEATING.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE OPPORTUNITY

We have already had a very nice start to the Thanksgiving For the Homeless food drive this year by tying it to the admission fee for Trivia Night. We would like to continue that food drive in our ongoing partnership with Vision Family Ministries. Each student and staff member who donates $5 cash, or at least $5 worth of packaged Thanksgiving food goods (canned Green Beans, Stuffing mix, canned pumpkin, gravy, etc.), will be allowed to come in Spirit Wear upon our return to school on Tuesday, November 27th. Other food goods are also welcome! (Those who have already donated at Trivia Night have been noted and will be able to wear Spirit Wear on the 27th.)

Food drop-off dates will be Monday and Tuesday, November 19th and 20th at the front office. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

THANKSGIVING BREAK EXTENDED

More than just “harvest time”, Thanksgiving is an important national day of remembering the source of our continued blessings, and a time to join together with family and friends to thank our Gracious God for His grace and provisions. Our Thanksgiving holiday break will be a little longer this year. We have added the Monday after Thanksgiving, November 26th, to allow more of our families, including teachers, additional travel time to return from visiting relatives and celebrating together. We have counted our school days, and found them sufficient to allow for this added time off from school. Classes will resume on Tuesday, November 27th. Because this is a change, we wanted you to have as much notice as possible. We hope you will all have a blessed time of giving thanks and enjoying family.

EVENT PARKING INFORMATION

We need to ask that our ACA families not park in the Akdar Shriner’s parking lots. We have been informed that we no longer have permission to park in either of the Shriner parking lots. It is our desire to reconcile this with their leadership but, in the meantime, we must ask that you use the ACA parking lot for all activities until we are able to resolve their concerns. Although normally we are able to park next door for special events, there may be times when the Vision Family Ministries parking lot is unavailable for use. We will post signage if we are unable to use their parking lot during an event. For the play this week, we can use our back field and the small lot in front of the PAB for parking. Cast members are asked carpool if possible, to reduce the number of cars on our lots. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE OPPORTUNITY

EVENT PARKING INFORMATION

We need to ask that our ACA families not park in the Akdar Shriner’s parking lots. We have been informed that we no longer have permission to park in either of the Shriner parking lots. It is our desire to reconcile this with their leadership but, in the meantime, we must ask that you use the ACA parking lot for all activities until we are able to resolve their concerns. Although normally we are able to park next door for special events, there may be times when the Vision Family Ministries parking lot is unavailable for use. We will post signage if we are unable to use their parking lot during an event. For the play next week, we can use our back field and the small lot in front of the PAB for parking. Cast members are asked carpool if possible, to reduce the number of cars on our lots. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

LITTLE THEATRE

PLEASE JOIN US as we celebrate the arts at ACA this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in the greatroom of ACA. Performing Friday night will be our elementary choir (grades 3-5), our 6th grade choir, our Intro to Performing Arts class, Luminis, plus you will get a teaser from our upcoming production of Rodgers’ & Hammerstein’s Broadway “Cinderella” AND our upcoming all-school Christmas play, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”. Tickets are $3 per person and are only available at the door. DINNER will be available at concessions from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. We are serving $2 quarter pound hot dogs (add cheese or chili for $.50 more), or $2 walking tacos. Canned soda, water, & candy will be $1. Join us for a great hour and half of delightful music and dance. General seating only, so don’t be late!

THIS WEEK IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO ORDER All-School Spirit Wear shirts for this year! These shirts are great for students, parents, siblings, grandparents, etc. Shirts are in Navy with “Augustine” on the front and “In luce tua, lucem videmus.” (Psalm 39:9 “In Thy light, we see light.”) in white lettering on the back. We believe that the only way to know anything of value is to first know Christ. We want to catch people’s attention so that they will be curious enough to ask you about your t-shirt. ACT PREP CLASS

Chad Cargill ACT Prep Class - Tuesday, November 6th, 8:30 - 11:30 am. If you want your student to learn some great ACT test strategies and not have to pay a ton for them, make it a point to sign them up to attend this class. It is actually fun and engaging and they will walk away with some great strategies to help them score higher on their future ACTs. If they have never taken the ACT, or have taken it five times, this will be a helpful class to them. And if they have taken the class before, they can benefit from taking it again as they will pick up on things that they may have missed the first time. The class fee is $35/person - and it is well worth the price. Mr. Cargill will also have his prep book available to purchase for $20 for those interested in that. It is not necessary to purchase his book, but if you would like all of his insight, you may want to have it. Students will walk away with a lot of handouts from the class itself. This class is open to the public, so please tell your friends that their students are welcome to participate as well. This is a great opportunity for homeschooling families, so please pass this information on to them. If you would like to sign up your student, please contact Ms. Becki in the ACA office. NSU LEADERSHIP CLASS

PLC (President’s Leadership Class) Conference at NSU Tahlequah - Thursday, November 8th. Northeastern State University’s PLC class will be hosting a leadership conference for area high school juniors and seniors on their Tahlequah campus. This is a full day of leadership activities, led by the PLC Freshman Class, covering lessons from the book “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens” by Sean Covey. It is also an opportunity to learn about the PLC scholarship, which is a full-ride scholarship, plus a stipend. It is a tremendous scholarship!! Because of the leadership experiences ACA students have, this is a scholarship that could be reachable for them! The cost to attend this conference is $20/student, and the deadline to sign-up is November 1st. Students will get to experience all the great leadership activities, receive an event t-shirt, and lunch will be provided. Please respond or come by Mrs. Collingsworth’s office to let her know if your student wants to attend. This will be a fun day for everyone!!

TRIVIA NIGHT!

THIS FRIDAY, October 26th is the ACA Trivia Night event and it will be held at Highland Park Christian Church (on 31st St. between Sheridan & Yale). This year, we have a Harvest theme and the price of entry will be $5.00 worth of canned or dry goods per person. You may also make a greater donation, if you wish, as the food will be going to feed the needy and homeless this Thanksgiving in cooperation with Highland Park Christian Church and Vision Family Ministries.

The evening will be a great opportunity to introduce your friends to ACA. There will be no fundraising as we simply wish to expand our exposure to more families. So, invite your church friends and other families who need to hear about our amazing school. There is a flyer attached below to share with your friends. Put together a team of 8, or join a team when you arrive. Students in high school are welcome to attend and be part of your team. Please call the office to register your team of 8 and reserve a table. Registered teams may decorate their tables and even wear costumes! Doors open at 6:00 and the Trivia fun starts promptly at 6:30. We should be finished at about 8:30. Mark it on your calendars and plan for a very fun evening. (Sorry, but there will not be child care available.)

SALT & LIGHT SECONDARY CHAPEL

Next Monday, October 29th, is our Salt & Light Chapel for our secondary students. Our guest will be the newest addition to the ACA Board of Governors, Pastor Bill Davis. Pastor Davis is a motivational speaker and a strong advocate for business ownership. Pastor Bill teaches Biblical wealth principles and has been active in ministry, the insurance industry, and real estate. Most recently, in 2015, he and his wife launched Davis & Davis Investments, a conglomerate of real estate businesses dedicated to assisting with the housing needs of Tulsans. Pastors Bill and Lisa Davis serve the Tulsa community through their outreach at Vision Family Ministries, located right next door to ACA. Please join us in welcoming Pastor Davis to the ACA Board of Governors and join us for chapel to hear his heart.

The class schedule will be adjusted to allow our guest more time in chapel. Please see the adjusted class schedule attached below. Students must wear their High Convocation uniform on Monday! Parents are welcome to attend. Chapel begins promptly at 9:50 and will run until 10:50 with a Q&A segment at the end.

NEW STUDENT NEWSPAPER

Lizzy Place, the editor of our new student-led newspaper, called Ravenwing, is looking for student graphic designers and writers to round out her team. The paper will be published once each month, and the staff will meet weekly to write articles and format the paper. If your student would be interested, they are encouraged to check out one of the posters displayed around the school advertising the new paper and giving information about joining the team.

EXPLORE TEST

This Thursday, October 25th, we will be giving the EXPLORE Test to all of our 8th graders and 9th graders new to ACA. This is the test that we use to determine 8th grade reading proficiency for a student’s driver’s permit. Students taking the test are excused from their classes that morning to take the test. LITTLE THEATRE

Our first Little Theatre of the season will be held on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, AT 7:00 p.m., in the Great Room of ACA. This is going to be quite a night with a great line-up of talent. Performing will be LUMINIS (our own high school Pentatonix), Grades 3-5 and Grade 6 Choirs (talk about young talent coming up…..you are going to be really, really surprised when you hear these two choirs perform), the Musical Theatre class will perform a ballet number to a hymn, and then we will give you a “sneak peek” from our upcoming musical, “Cinderella”. Tickets to LITTLE THEATRE are only $3 per person and can only be purchased at the door. Our Concession Stand will be open from 6:15 - 7:15 that evening. We will have soft drinks, bottled water, and candy for $1 and quarter pound hot dogs (plain) - for $2 or add Chili or grated Cheese for an additional $.50 each per item. We will also have Walking Tacos for $2 each. BUT, the early bird gets the worm. When the hot dogs and walking tacos are gone…they are gone! We will only have a limited amount of each to sell. Mark your calendar and invite your family and friends. You WILL NOT be disappointed!

THANKSGIVING BREAK INFORMATION

More than just “harvest time”, Thanksgiving is an important national day of remembering the source of our continued blessings, and a time to join together with family and friends to thank our Gracious God for His grace and provisions. Our Thanksgiving holiday break will be a little longer this year. We have added the Monday after Thanksgiving, November 26th, to allow more of our families, including teachers, additional travel time to return from visiting relatives and celebrating together. We have counted our school days, and found them sufficient to allow for this added time off from school. Classes will resume on Tuesday, November 27th. Because this is a change, we wanted you to have as much notice as possible. We hope you will all have a blessed time of giving thanks and enjoying family.
