Links remain critical to success today.

This year's SEOmoz survey of 72 top SEOs concluded that links still represented about 67 percent of what drives rankings:

Google vs. Spam

As soon as Google's algorithm was understood, spammers were quick to get involved with link building. The buying and selling of links became popular. So did massive swapping of links among sites. At one point in time it seemed that half the sites on the web were replicating the Yahoo directory on their own sites to support their massive link swapping programs.

The problem with both of these methods was that they had a tendency to break the Google algorithm. This algorithm was based on links being academic citations. The site that garnered the most citations was probably the best site, not the one that bought or swapped for the most links.

As a result, Google began to actively fight link spam, making steady progress against the spammers. Today, various spammy techniques for obtaining links are getting harder to come by, and require more effort to execute. It's often easier to get clean links (citations) than to get them by cheating.

We Don't Buy Links

I saw this coming back in 2007 and documented it in my February 2008 post, "I Don't Buy Links." Many other pundits have followed since then, coming to the conclusion that buying links is a more difficult road to pursue today.

One result is that today's link building has become a cross between old-fashioned PR and business development.

Link Building & Public Relations

Some of the PR-like ways of building links include:

   1. Submitting articles to social news sites like Digg, Reddit, and Propeller.

   2. Participating in communities, such as those found on Facebook or Twitter, to build a large following to which you can broadcast messages.

   3. Implementing a news feed and submitting it to Google News.

   4. Direct pursuit of relationships with media.

These all seem like PR activities to me. The first three are like PR because they involve an indirect approach, and you don't know where you're going to get the links from.

The last one, direct media outreach, has been a big part of PR all along. This has evolved as the definition of media now includes bloggers, but it's still PR.

Link Building & Business Development

In contrast, here are some of the business development-like ways of doing link building.

   1. Reaching out directly to publishers to request links.

   2. Syndicating content or tools to third-party web sites in return for links.

   3. Using Facebook or Twitter to directly contact potential linkers as a substitute for e-mail (which might be spam filtered).

Because these focus on building business relationships, they are like business development. The contact is direct, and you're likely to know where a resulting link will be placed. The probability of getting such a link is enhanced by the level of trust in the relationship.

Future of Web Marketing

Over time, web marketing should increasingly look like old school marketing. SEO, PPC, and social media will simply be different channels to use in the overall marketing process. Smart businesses will get an advantage based on what they do with the opportunities that each of these present, but, ultimately, web marketing through these channels will look more like marketing used to 20 years ago.

By Eric Enge, Search Engine Watch, May 18, 2010

SEO – How To Define Your Goals And Save Money

Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO is the process that will help your business to rank well in the search engines, Google included. It should be part and parcel of any web design project, from the word go.

Your SEO strategy is something that needs attention way before you start work on the website itself. You don’t want to have to redesign the content of pages on your site after you’ve spent the time building them due to a lack of clarity regarding what that page should be about.

Define Your Goals

When designing your website, begin with a clear understanding of what your goals are for your website, and what your target market is. Make sure you understand what your potential visitors will be searching for, and this will arm you with the information you require to properly target the content you present on your pages.

Do research. It’s not sexy, it’s not glorious, but if done right, it can save a bunch of headaches down the line. Allow yourself the time to invest in solid research, and keep telling yourself that this research is solid progress. It’s easy for many business owners to feel that the research stage is blowing the budget or the project deadline.

If you have to add days or weeks to the delivery date of your website to get some reliable market research or analysis done, then so be it. Giving yourself clear goals from the outset is imperative. Who do you want to find you? What are they searching for? How do you want them to find you? Get a clear brief to inform your decisions later on down the line.

Need help with your business website design or SEO? It takes consistency and hard work along with a dedicated schedule of events that are continuously hitting the pages of the internet. Repetition in front of your audience is what it takes to get people to notice you and what you are doing in your industry.

Here are ways to be consistent with your web marketing efforts:

1. Link Building: Don’t just shoot from the hip with your efforts. Put a strategy together for either 6 or 12 months and stick to it. Feel free to add and make changes as you go along but stick to a schedule for your link building. A schedule is really the only way your efforts are really going to work how they are supposed to.

2. Social Media Marketing: You don’t want to leave big gaps in your frequency of activity. People need repetition in the social networks. Your audience needs to see your brand and logo consistently for them to take you seriously as a company. It is all about burning the image of your brand into the minds of those around you. This can only happen if you are active on a regular basis. Put a plan together of where and when you will take part in your social activity, this will keep you a bit more focused. It is easy to get lost in the sea of social chatter.

3. Email Marketing: You don’t want to send a newsletter once every six months because it will not have the same effects than if you sent it twice per month. Applying the consistency rule and scheduling at least one newsletter campaign per/month will have a much more substantial impact on your branding efforts. If you could find a way to bump that up to 2 newsletters per month you will without a doubt see an increase in traffic and sales.

Everything about web marketing is about consistency. You have to be persistent and repetitious about everything you do online and over time your brand will grow. Make a schedule of efforts and events and stick to it.

Writing by Nick Stamoulis

Top Methods to Improve Your Blog Rank

Improve blog ranking and marketing is no longer kids stuff. It’s beyond the sappy diary entries and torment fueled rants. Its serious business, especially if your goal is to make money blogging for your business. Blog marketing is more dominant than static site marketing mainly because of all the options Web 2.0 offers. Below are some things you can do to take advantage of what web 2.0 has to offer to boost blog traffic, links and engine ranking.

1. Get exposed

Do you wonder how some large news and content sites deliver their headlines. Syndicate with RSS. While using the feed that comes with your blog may seem like an ok option, using a custom feed, that particularly separates keyword groups for content you develop often, is a far better option. Syndicating with RSS increases your exposure. Pheedpress, accessible from Content Desk is a great tool for this.

2. Tag you’re it!

Tags make it easier for people to find your blog post, and video and photos that are related. You can write the most informative blog in your niche but if it can not be found it can not get read. Tag your posts.

3. Social Bookmarking

Social Bookmarking allows users to save and categorize a personal collection of bookmarks and share them with others. Users may also take bookmarks saved by others and add them to their own collection, as well as to subscribe to the lists of others.

Bookmarking is an easy way to improve blog ranking and get traffic; the more you do it the more youll be noticed. Ideally, your site should be bookmarked somewhere in all the major bookmarking engines. For more details you can visit us at www.profit-pulling-tollbars.com. But having your entire site booked in just a few can greatly increase blog traffic.

4. Get involved

much like the tip above, adding comments is a great way to sprinkle your links around. Note however, your comment must be informative and relate to the original post. Bloggers will grant your trackbacks when your comments are on topic and useful.

5. Get connected

Social networks like Myspace can be found in nearly everywhere corner of the web. They are great places to meet like minded people and above all receive important links from.

Article syndication is still one of the most popular ways to get links. Well-written content that serves the reader first then your business will receive rewards. This is the type of content that is read, passed on, and linked to. Writing content gives you links as well as branding you as an authority figure in your niche.

6. Digging for treasure

some sites take stories from users and post them on the site. Users then vote on them and decide which get dugg and which are buried. If you are dugg it can result in a flood of traffic.

Use the above tips to take full advantage of all the rewards blogging can have on your business and to be able to make money blogging.
Publishing on a blog platform gives you the chance to reach a greater quantity of people faster than a static site.

http://www.articlesnatch.com/

Secrets to a Successful Website and SEO

A website is like a cake. A great cake has great contents and is baked just nice without overdoing it or doing it less. The content of a cake resembles the content of a website. If the content of the website is made with the highest quality product, it isn’t guaranteed that the result will be good. To make a great cake, the temperature along various other things needs to be controlled. For a website, this is the search engine optimization of a website.

There are ways of getting popularity for a website. It can be good and it can be bad. Bad PR can be attributed from spam or by giving out bad comments to others. Good PR on the other hand works if the person gives out excellent advice while still promoting their website.
In addition to that, try targeting long tail keywords instead of general keywords. After you have scored with the long keywords, try aiming for a shorter keyword until you get to that general keyword. The process may be slow but it would be the best way to rank in a diverse keyword.
Websites must be easy to access by both search engines and visitors. If it takes too many clicks to get to a desired page, consider making it easier by placing some links that would help visitors navigate throughout the website. Webmaster ego can potentially destroy a website so it is best to stop thinking about oneself and more about other people.

http://www.weboptimizationseo.com/

How to Measure Success in an SEO Campaign

If you own a website, you're already doing SEO. The e-commerce platform you choose, information architecture of your site, product marketing copy, meta data, and more all affect your organic listings in search engines from day one.
As you continue managing the site, you're constantly changing your search engine visibility, so it's important to know if things are on the right track. It takes a combination of several quantitative and qualitative measurements to get a good grasp on the state of your SEO.
Quantitative Factors
• Rankings on a set of keywords used to be the method of choice for SEO measurement. If you want to rank for "tickets" and you move from the bottom of page one to the top of page one, then you've met a goal. However, this mindset is limited to the keywords you focus on -- users will come up with tons you didn't consider. Additionally, what you see in Google isn't necessarily what everyone else sees, due to several factors such as personalization and geography. Not to mention the fact that rankings don't equal clicks -- someone has to choose your listing over those around it.
• Natural search traffic is the next logical spot to consider. Pulling this data from your web analytics package will give you traffic trends, allowing you to compare them to SEO project dates. Assuming your numbers aren't inaccurate, a common problem, you also need to put these in context of the whole site.
• Percent share of total traffic helps with context. Perhaps traffic is down a little, but is the whole site down? It may be a seasonal issue or a brand issue reducing traffic.
• Some final metrics on traffic are often overlooked in SEO. What does your traffic do on your site? Take one look at the page and run away screaming? Or do they actually stick around and buy something? Ensuring people are landing on the right pages, targeting the right terms, and even creating compelling landing pages are part of SEO. Keep track of things like bounce rates, goal conversion rates, revenue, and orders sold for natural search. Ideally, you have attribution set up to have an idea of how natural search revenue fits in with other sources.
• Another number to consider is keyword exposure, or the total volume of unique natural search phrases driving traffic to your site. The higher your volume, the better you're capturing long-tail phrases and exposing your brand to a varied audience. You can also find this in your analytics reports.
Qualitative Factors
• SEO is partly a function of public relations, where your brand needs to be well represented in search engines. Are your listings reflective of your brand message, or are they just a list of disjointed phrases? Better listings also mean higher CTRs.
• Your e-commerce team -- from copywriters, to merchandisers, to coders -- is always affecting your search engine standing. Making poor build decisions today may haunt you in expensive SEO fixes later. In that way, you need to also measure success by considering how well your e-commerce team is educated in SEO.
• Another set to consider are site-specific considerations, best determined by an SEO expert usually. How well indexed is your site? Are other sites linking to your site? These will help give you an idea of your site's success in reaching its potential.
Conclusion
Clearly, measuring SEO results is more difficult than building a single graph. Trending all of the above metrics will give you a much better picture of your natural search health than any one number. Additionally, keep tabs on qualitative objectives such as brand message, team education, and having a well-crawled and well-linked site.
Once you have your results, remember that SEO isn't like buying spots for a marketing campaign. It's much more like usability or accessibility in that it is a component of e-commerce. Paying close attention to results will keep long-term success possible.

By John Greer

The Keyword and the SEM Campaign

Often times, marketers overlook the importance of a campaign’s keywords in favor of catchy creative, fancy testing techniques or their reliance on bid management software to sort it all out. Now, I’m not saying that these individual components are not important. Everything plays a role in the success of a campaign. However, keywords make up the fundamental basis of a strong campaign.
Keywords are vital because they indicate user intent. We can determine if the consumer is in the research phase looking for general information, looking for a specific product or brand and when they are ready to make a purchase. Using this information, we can effectively group the keywords into relevant categories in order to creative appropriate (and timely) ads, improving our chances of creating a positive user experience.
All too often, inexperienced markets will take a quantity over quality approach. Judging a campaign by the large number of keywords it contains does not indicate its potential for success. On the contrary, smaller, highly-targeted sets of keywords are the best way to control spend and drive ROI. Once best performers are identified, you can experiment with variations of these keywords instead of making random guesses. Keywords can also be used to beef up your other marketing channels. Successful PPC keywords can be used as content in email, mobile or banner creative.
A successful SEM campaign makes use of many tools and strategies. Start with solid keyword research and add some intuitive thought to get into the mind of your potential customer. You’ll find that using this approach from the beginning can lessen the learning curve and speed up your path to a positive ROI.

Posted by Mark Simmons

How to Build Valuable Backlinks

Search engine optimization consists mainly of on page activity and off page optimization. Building backlinks is a part of off page optimization strategy. High quality backlinks have the potential to increase a websites ranking in the SERPs.

Backlinks are considered valuable when they:

a. are do follow
b. contain the appropriate anchor text,
c. are deep linked to the relevant inner pages,
d. are linked from high PR niche websites

5 Tips for Building Valuable Backlinks:

1. Perform A Competitive Intelligence Analysis

Competitive intelligence analysis allows you to scrutinize the competitors' backlinks and their link profiles. Run a Google search for your target keyword and list the top 20 competitors. Capitalize on the Yahoo! Search Explorer tool to determine the backlinks for each of the top competing websites. Use an Excel spreadsheet to make a list of all the backlinks providing websites. The next step is to shortlist the do follow websites from the list. Arrange them in the descending order of their PR. At the end of this procedure, you will have a list of highly valuable do follow websites to link from.

2. Submit URLs to Search Directories

Search directories are of two types: general and niche directories. Backlinks from niche directories are normally considered more valuable than the backlinks from general directories. Most of the search directories take months to process your linking request. There are some directories which link back within a few days. Websites which build a high number of backlinks in a few days are looked upon suspiciously by Google. The best way to build backlinks is over a period of time to avoid getting tagged as a link spammer. Submitting a website's URL to directories is a time consuming task but provides great results at the end.

3. Submit Articles to Article Directories

Submitting articles to article directories is a very popular approach to link building. Most of the article directories allow you to include a link in the article. You can also add a link to the author description of the article with appropriate anchor text. Article directories are known to rank well in the search engine ranking pages. An added benefit of submitting to article directories is the traffic it drives to your website. There are a large number of high quality article directories which accept free article submission. Simply sign up, verify your account and start submitting articles.

4. Post in Forums

Forums initially served as a means of conversing and solving queries. Today forums are also used to obtain valuable backlinks to your website. A majority of forums allow a signature link at the bottom of every post. This signature link is a do-follow link. You can select the desired anchor text and link to any important inner page of your website. There are a few forums which allow you to enter more than one signature link. Just remember to participate in the conversation, ask questions and answer those of others.

5. Create Link Bait

Link bait involves creating compelling content on the website which makes others link to it. You should write frequently and consistently to develop a following. Keep tab on the latest happenings and news in your niche; be among the first few to break the news online. To create that perfect link bait, your articles should contain news, updates, a controversial topic or even some great resources. Keep the information quotient of your articles high and watch the link baits pouring in.

If you want other websites and blogs to link to you, double check who you are linking too. Don't be in a rush to get backlinks. A handful of good quality and authoritative backlinks are worth more than a hundred low quality, low PR backlinks.

By Debbie A. New technologies and developments in existing technologies are appearing at an extraordinary rate. As technologies change, so does the terminology used to describe them.
I worked for three years as a webmaster. Ask a dozen people to define that term, and you'll get a lot of different answers. A webmaster may be the leader of a large team, including developers, writers, marketers, designers, usability experts, technical support people, and yes, search engine optimizers. Or s/he may perform all or some of those duties alone.
The same is true for search engine optimization. For many people, the term is a new one, and they have no idea what it is an SEO does. To others, SEO is synonymous with SEM -- search engine marketing. In my opinion, there is a big difference between the two.
Search Engine Marketing
I see SEM as a rather broad term. It's everything that can be done to utilize the technology of search engines with the goal of promoting a web site and increasing its traffic, its "stickiness," and, in the case of sites that promote a business (or are a business), increase profits. SEO, therefore, would be a subset of SEM.
Aspects of search engine marketing which I would consider to be outside the realm of search engine optimization include the following:
Paid Inclusion
This is simply the practice of paying a search engine or a directory to add a site to its database immediately, rather than setting up that site so that it will be found by the search engine spiders on its own. In the case of some search engines and directories, paid inclusion is the only way to get listed. For others, it's presented as an option. If you're willing to pay, your site will be listed sooner. It's also a useful practice if you wish to make frequent changes to your content, because your site will be spidered more often and you will be able to test how changes affect your ranking.
Traditional Ads
This involves placing paid advertising on the search engine result pages (SERPs). Normally, these ads appear based on the keywords entered into the search engines, and one is charged based on the number of impressions, i.e. appearances, of the ad. In other words, you pay whether the ad sends anyone to your web site or not.
Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Advertising
PPC ads are simple enough to look at. They're text-only. PPC ad campaigns are completely controlled by the advertiser. You decide which keywords should bring up your ads, you write the copy, and you decide how much you want to pay. And, as the name indicates, you only pay for an ad when someone clicks it and is brought to your site. There are two main networks of PPC ads, run by Google and Overture, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages, but in both cases, one should be prepared to spend a great deal of time (and money) monitoring and adjusting such a campaign.
The Advantages of These Practices
In contrast to pure SEO, these SEM practices offer the advantage of immediacy. If you need to increase your traffic and your visibility right away, and you don't have a problem with spending a lot of money, this may be the way to go.
The Disadvantages
You knew this was coming, didn't you? Think about it this way: you've spent your time and money to bring people to your web site. What will they see when they get there? You've convinced them, at least for the moment, that your site is worth visiting, so they're expecting to find exactly the information they were seeking. Is it easy to find? Is it there at all? You only have a few seconds to convince them that your site can deliver what they want. Will your visitors, failing to find what they're looking for, click their browser's back button and try another site?
Your site has to be ready for your visitors. It needs to be written, structured, and coded in such a way that the information is clearly laid out and easy to find. If it isn't, your site will either be immediately forgotten by visitors, or worse, it will be remembered as one that fails to deliver.
SEO First
No SEM campaign is complete without SEO. Moreover, since the purpose of SEO is to make the site better for both search engines and users, you may find that it will suffice on its own. In any case, the advantages of SEO over the other aspects of SEM make it clear that, even if you are going to spend additional money on advertising and paid placement, SEO must be your first step in promoting your site.

Understanding the SEO Industry

Scottie Claiborne

One of the challenges facing any new industry is creating a demand for and an awareness of the industry in the mind of the consumer. Since many Website owners have only a general idea of what search engine optimization (SEO) is and how it works, I've come up with an analogy from another industry that makes it easier to understand.
Search Engine Marketers = Ad Agencies
Search engine marketers dealing with paid listings are very similar to ad agencies in offline media. They work with the message and the creative to get people to take action: to buy, subscribe or register. They have budgets and are able to monitor results and tweak campaigns to get the maximum return for their clients.
It's pretty easy to see the parallels between SEMs and ad agencies, but a little harder to understand the role of search engine optimizers, as they relate to the "free" search listings.
Search Engine Optimizers = Public Relations Firms
A search engine optimizer is actually very similar to a public relations firm in the offline world. Public relations firms try to get their clients mentioned in news stories and featured in print and broadcast media, i.e., they obtain "free" publicity. An SEO consultant attempts to get their client's site listed highly in the "editorial" or "free" listings of the search engines. As with offline media, the editorial content (or listings) often carries more credibility with consumers.
Just as a public relations firm carefully writes press releases and formats them in a way that is favorable to the news media, a search engine optimizer adjusts the code and wording in a site to present it in the way that the search engines prefer to read it. A good SEO (just like a good PR firm) will create content that is interesting and useful, making it much more likely to be ranked well (or be newsworthy).
PR firms often act as image consultants as well, working with the company and its executives to make sure they present the best possible impression when meeting with the press. They make sure their message is consistent and in keeping with their brand, to help firmly cement the company's image in the mind of the customer. A professional SEO often does the same thing for a site, making design or usability recommendations to ensure that once people arrive they will easily be able to find what they need.
Not All Search Engine Optimizers Are the Same
There are different kinds of SEOs, just as there are different kinds of PR firms. Some PR firms merely churn out press releases on a regular schedule. They spend their time faxing and following up on items that may or may not be newsworthy. They make very little attempt to be creative or find truly newsworthy events within the company -- they simply send a regular stream of minor happenings out via press releases. They may even try to sneak releases past screening personnel or exaggerate the truth in order to get a mention in the media. Ineffective PR firms waste your money; an unethical one can even hurt your company's image.
The parallel in the SEO industry is those SEOs that use deceptive practices to place their clients' sites in the engines. One such tactic would be the use of software to churn out keyword-stuffed pages instead of attempting to improve the site itself. Another tactic would be showing search engines different content than a human visitor would see. These are strategies that work in the short term. But just as a newspaper editor will eventually start throwing out all of the low-value press releases from a company that has proved they don't provide good content, a search engine will eventually do the same to pages using deceptive techniques and which don't provide any value to site visitors. Eventually, those SEOs will find that their clients' sites are penalized or banned.
Neither public relations nor search engine optimization are forms of black magic; anyone can learn what needs to be done to get a company noticed. There are PR companies who see the media as something to be manipulated, just as there are SEO companies who see the search engines that way. However, you'll find that it's much more productive when an SEO actually works with the search engines, rather than against them.

This article originally appeared in the High Rankings newsletter.

Local Search Engine Optimization

As the fastest growing vertical in search, many people are now starting to recognize the value of local search engine optimization can have on their site traffic. Also known as regional search, it's basically geo-targeting your audience when they search.

Local search works best for the service provider, or a retailer that has numerous locations. While the search volume won't be as great as a non-regional phrase, the person who reaches your site will be a more targeted visit and most likely ready to convert.

Another happy accident in local search is that for sites that are well optimized may also pick up rankings in mobile search.

So, here's what you need to do in order to rank for local seo:
Be sure to have your location(s) full address
If you have a regional number, list that as well since some people start with an area code
Be sure to include driving directions to your location
Use a mapping service to display your location
Have pictures of your locations and name them with your street address
Make sure your site appears in any regional directory that might be online
If you can afford it, get listed in your local yellow pages
Place the regions you want to rank for in your page titles
Get text links that contain the regional phrase
Most of these techniques are not only common sense, but also good web design. If you're in business, you want people to be able to find you, right?

-To your online success!
Remember that more inbound and outbound traffic generated by sites is a factor that SEO uses for ranking different websites.

Google uses page speed as a ranking factor

Last Friday, Google announced that they started to use site speed as one of the 200 signals that influence the position of a website in the search results:

"As part of that effort, today we're including a new signal in our search ranking algorithms: site speed. Site speed reflects how quickly a website responds to web requests. [...] We've decided to take site speed into account in our search rankings. We use a variety of sources to determine the speed of a site relative to other sites."

Will your website rankings drop?

Google's Matt Cutts says that the change will affect only some websites:

"Fewer than 1% of search queries will change as a result of incorporating site speed into our ranking. That means that even fewer search results are affected, since the average search query is returning 10 or so search results on each page. So please don’t worry that the effect of this change will be huge. In fact, I believe the official blog post mentioned that 'We launched this change a few weeks back after rigorous testing.' The fact that not too many people noticed the change is another reason not to stress out disproportionately over this change."

While 1% does not sound much, it can be a problem if your website belongs to the pages whose rankings will drop. At this time, Google's new site speed signal only applies to visitors searching in English on Google.com. How to keep your web pages listed in Google search results. There are several things that you can do to improve the speed of your web pages:
Choose a fast and reliable web host with a good connection to the Internet. A "cheap" web host could cause problems.

Combine external JavaScript code files into one file. The fewer files the server has to request, the faster your web pages will load.

Compress your JavaScript code to make the JavaScript file smaller.

Combine external CSS files into one file and compress your CSS files.
If your web server supports it, enable gZip compression (your web host can do that for you). Use as few images as possible on your website and compress your images. Most graphic tools enable you to choose the compression rate when saving an image for the web. Put tracking codes and other JavaScript snippets at the end of your web pages. The faster your web pages load, the more visitors of your website will be able to see the contents of your pages. Web surfers are impatient people. The average web surfer wants immediate results.

Page speed is not Google's most important ranking signal. The end of Google's page speed announcement contains a very important sentence: "While site speed is a new signal, it doesn't carry as much weight as the relevance of a page."
It is important to optimize the speed of your web pages but it's also important to optimize all other elements of your web pages if you want to be listed on Google's first result page. IBP's Top 10 Optimizer analyzes all important ranking elements/signals that lead to high rankings on Google, including page speed and many other factors.

Internet Marketing Facts

Internet marketing is no easy task. The area is constantly growing with each passing day as there are often new ways of marketing a website or a product. Here are some facts about internet marketing that are worth knowing.
Internet marketing can never be done by a machine or a computer. There are no possible ways of simplifying the task of Internet marketing. Whether the marketer likes it or not, he or she has to do it the manual way.
Most marketing campaigns take a lot of time before any results will appear. Not with Internet marketing. Results can be seen by as fast as a month if a great marketing campaign was done. Expect no more than 6 months before results can start showing itself and if there isn’t any results available, then it is most probably that the marketing campaign is a total bust.
One great fact about Internet marketing is that it is downright distracting. There are so many factors that can pull the marketer out of doing it. For example, there are so many marketing ways such as MySpace, Twitter, E-mail and many more. Reading about it won’t produce results. Applying it does!
In addition to that, there is no single book that can explain Internet marketing from A-Z. Even if the author claims that their book does the job, then it probably will work up to a certain point. Because Internet marketing is a dynamic sector, new ways of marketing come out every once in a while and by the time the person finishes reading the book, a lot of the information inside would probably be outdated.
Internet marketing requires a lot of work. As daunting as it may sound, a hard working person may go far with Internet marketing. Do remember that quality is king and if the quality isn’t up to standards, no matter how good the marketing campaign may be, the product will still go unnoticed.

New & Powerful: AdWords Search Funnels

Last week Google announced a new AdWords reporting feature called ‘Search Funnels’ that has been getting a lot of attention. At Enquiro, we were given a sneak preview of this new tool a few weeks ago and were able to use it with one of our major clients to get some more complete insight into paths that searchers are taking as they interact with advertising and the client’s site. This enabled us to generate some ideas for optimization based on data, rather than conjecture. So this increased visibility is most welcome!
Some brief notes on Search Funnels:
• collection of 7 reports that include Assisted Conversions, First and Last Click Analysis, and Path Length
• encompass only paid search activity (do not include clicks on organic results)
• provides info not just on clicks, but also ad impressions seen
• require AdWords conversion tracking or goals imported from Google Analytics into AdWords
• reports look back 30 days from the conversion event
• will be rolled out to AdWords accounts over the next few of weeks (accessible via Reporting > Conversions > ‘Search Funnels’ link on the left, below ‘All conversion types’)
Using ‘Search Funnels’, AdWords advertisers will finally be able to look beyond ‘last-click’ attribution to answer questions like:
• how many times did a visitor click on an ad to visit the site before completing a conversion?
• what keywords did the visitor search on and use to visit the site (via paid search) prior to completing a conversion?
• what keywords did a visitor search on and see an ad for (without clicking) prior to completing a conversion?
• for a given keyword (ad group, campaign), what is the ratio of assists to last click conversions? (closer to ‘0′ indicates the keyword is a ‘closer’, while a high number indicates the keyword is pulling searchers in to the top of the funnel)
• after visitors clicked on a given keyword to visit the site, what were subsequent keywords that they used to get to the site prior to completing a conversion?
• how many hours or days passed before the first ad they clicked on and the eventual conversion?
Especially for B2B marketers, with relatively long (and sometimes twisted) conversion paths, often involving a string of generic and brand terms, having access to this information is golden.

How Landing Page Can Make or Break a Website

Landing pages are important while doing SEO. In fact, it is the single most important factor when a webmaster is trying to do a pay-per-click (PPC) campaign for his or her website. Why is this important? It is important because it is the first page that a user would go to when he or she clicks the advertisement.
The three seconds rule is very important in any landing page. The rule says that it will take only three seconds for an average user to bail out from any website if he or she doesn’t get the information needed. Therefore, it is absolutely important that the user gets the right information in less than 3 seconds.
This also means that whatever information the user wishes to get needs to be above the fold meaning that it has to stay at the screen the instant the website loads. If the user has to scroll down to get to the necessary information, then the webmaster is doing it wrong. To test this, do it on a screen with a 1024×768 resolution.
A landing page should also have the information on what the user can do next. This information needs to be big and eye-catchy just like a newspaper headline. If it is bad, then chances are less people will buy the newspaper but if the title is something striking, then a lot of people would go ahead and buy the newspaper and this works just the same with a landing page.

Blogging-Free Internet Marketing Method

Many teenagers have resorted to blogging as an outlet for their emotions, a little online nook where they can blurt out whatever just bugs them or whatever makes them feel elated.
It's been years since blogging has been practiced. But it's just recently that it has been considered as one of the addicting fads.
What exactly is blogging? Blog is the widely used term that refers to web log. Basically, a blog is an online journal. A blog could be set up to no cost at all, and can be used for just for the fun of it or for business reasons.
Blogging for your Internet business is one surefire way to boost the visibility of your products and services. Here are a few ways to boost your internet advertising with the help of a blog:
1. Make your clients or customers abreast on your website's alterations. Your new products and affiliate websites could also be announced through your blog.
2. Keep track of your business goals and plans through open writing. Your blog content can be easily stored through archives. What could be better than searchable information that could be easily accessed by anyone browsing the web, right?
3. Publishing is a very easy process with blogging. Air your opinions, advice or reviews on specific services or products that are related to your business.
4. Include links that will carry back links and consequently improve your ranking on search engines. This could be better executed through putting well-written articles in your website. Affiliate links could also be included in your blog to earn more extra income.
5. Collect reaction through the capacity of blogs to fetch comments from your blog readers. You can learn and improve your products and services through with the feedback from your readers.
6. Connect easily with other bloggers. When other bloggers notice that you have something good in your blog, they will put you in their favorite lists that will automatically link you to their blogs.
So, how do you set up a blog? Here are some of the options you can make use of to take advantage of this fun way to advertise your Internet business.
Either you load a blogging software or let a blogging hosting service do it for you. Host services such as LiveJournal and Blogger.com are the most popular in this field. Those hosts will provide you with easy information on how to put up your blog.

How to Increase Google Page Rank

Visit any internet marketing forum and you are bound to find at least a few discussions on Google Page Rank. But what exactly is Google Page Rank and what do you need to do to increase it?
First of all Page Rank is a value that Google assigns to a web page based on the importance of the page. It is determined by the number of incoming links to that web page and few other factors including the page rank of the page giving the link to you.
There has been discussion recently asked to the importance of page rank. However one thing to consider is this, if Google thinks page rank is important than page rank is important.
Remember Google gets over 65% of all the search traffic on the Internet every day. If you were to take 10 websites that were all optimized for the same keywords, typically you would find that the page with the highest page rank would rank higher in the search engine results than the other pages.
So what are the best ways to increase your Google Page Rank?
1. One of the first things you should do is aim to increase the numnber of backlinks that you have pointing to your website. This fact alone can increase your link popularity and ultimately increase your page rank. Combined with that is the fact that the more back links you have pointing back your website for more potential traffic you will get from it.
2. As well as increasing the quantity of links to your website you should also try to get your links on high quality web pages. This means getting your link on pages that are ranked as high or higher than yours. When you do this some of their page rank can be transferred to you which ultimately helps increase the page rank of your site.
There are lots of ways to increase your page rank, but the most common methods are posting in discussion forums that have a high page rank, article marketing, submitting your site to directories, commenting on blogs and distributing press releases.
You should also try to get some deep links in addition to the links to your home page. Deep linking means linking to internal pages on your website as opposed to always linking to your homepage.
There are many other methods that you can use to improve your page rank, but any time you spend on getting links is well spent!
It is worth noting that the page rank displayed on the Google toolbar is not up to date. Although Google is always internally updating the page rank of web pages, the toolbar page rank is only updated every few months.
You should also be aware that just because a web page has a low page rank it doesn’t mean that getting a link on that page isn’t worthwhile. The page rank could increase on the next toolbar update.
Finally, it is worth remembering that a good Google Page Rank on its own is not necessarily going to mean lots of traffic. You also want to ensure that you have chosen good keyword phrases and have optimized your website.

Want to learn more about SEO, visit: www.accelet.com

Google To Increase Abuse Alerts To Webmasters

Saying that web site hacking and other forms of abuse is on the rise, Google has announced plans to step up the notifications it sends to webmasters when the company finds these problems.
Beginning this month, Google will use the Message Center area in Google Webmaster Tools to notify site owners about
• Spammy or abused user-generated content
• Abused forum pages or egregious amounts of comment spam
• Suspected hacking
When possible, the alerts will include specific pages that Google believes have been compromised by a third party.
In order to receive the alerts, webmasters obviously need to be signed up and have verified their site(s) in Webmaster Tools. Site owners who haven’t done that yet will be able to retrieve messages from Google going back a year.

By Matt McGee

SEO 2010

SEO Predictions for 2010 – How Much Will Change for You?
Don’t you hate it when you spend a lot of money on how to guides, memberships and tools helping you with your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) efforts, only to find out everything’s changing for the coming year?
It happens to everyone and some marketers can roll with the changes with ease, while others struggle to keep up. If you look to the future, it can help you predict how things might change so you can head off the SEO lag time most marketers will experience and stay one step ahead of the competition.
The biggest change you’re going to notice is that things are evolving into real time. Keywords, indexing – it’s going to be updated quicker than in the past, so you won’t be able to rest on your laurels enjoying a top spot in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) and likewise, you’ll have ample opportunity to move up in the ranks if you pay attention closely.
In 2010, you’re going to see Google working on ways to combine real time results (which basically means the last one to mention something, if it’s indexed, will be shown) with relevancy, which was Google’s biggest beef with websites that were using keywords to trick searchers in the first place!
Real time search doesn’t replace regular SEO page results, though. It’s integrated into the SERPs so that you have the option of choosing the latest results or the pages. So you’ll be able to capitalize on both options as a marketer.
All of the regular SEO tactics will stay the same. You’ll want to post frequently on your website or blog. You’ll want to use relevant keyword phrases without stuffing them into it so that it reads awkwardly.
Backlinks from the right kind of relevant sites will be to your benefit, while so-called bad neighborhoods will still damage your reputation with Google. It’s expected that businesses – both online and offline – will be increasing their spending to SEO experts and investing in SEO tools to help them either boost or maintain their position in the search engines.
You can be a self-taught SEO expert just by educating yourself about what tactics are allowed (and which are frowned upon) and tracking and tweaking your methods so get the best traffic results.

Make Your Business Stand Out

Accelet Corporation is a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) service provider that stands apart from its top competitors.
