Surviving the Social Web with Author, Deltina Hay

Social media pioneer and author educates businesses on how to expand reach on Web

AUSTIN, TEXAS, September 23, 2009 Deltina Hay, social media pioneer and renowned author of the acclaimed book, “A Survival Guide to Social Media and Web 2.0 Optimization” introduces in-depth training workshops aimed at helping businesses move beyond the basics of social media.

The workshop series is based on the principles of Hay’s new book, which was released in March, has gained recognition in social media circles as well as in the academic world. The book is currently ranked as one of the “Top 100 Best Social Media Books, Ever” by Mellow Billow social media and CRM blog. Several universities, including Buffalo University in New York, St. Cloud University in Minnesota, St. Edward’s University in Austin, and Walden University online have already added her book to their curriculum.

“I chose to use “A Survival Guide to Social Media and Web 2.0 Optimization” in my classroom because it is one of the most comprehensive social media books on the market and it is easy for everyone to understand,” says Corrine Weisgerber, professor of Social Media for PR at St. Edward’s University. “Deltina Hay breaks down each tool and explains why it is important. She guides readers through each step; from the set up process to the tool’s functionality as it relates to most users.”

“Companies have moved past the point of deciding if social media is an effective communications channel, to seeking education on how to keep up with all of the tools that are out there – it can be overwhelming.” comments Hay. “I use my book as a resource during the training so the attendees can return to it and the companion CD for support when they are actually implementing social media applications. A reliable guide book simplifies the entire process.”

Serving as a social media guide, Hay will be leading both novices and experts alike on a trek to explore the deeper realms of the social web. Maneuvering through RSS feeds, widgets, applications and plug-ins, these workshops will turn social media tourists into seasoned explorers by teaching them how to take advantage of these tools to forge their own paths on the web.

As a follow-up to her popular Webinar series “How to Keep from Falling Off the Internet”, there will be two workshops for varying degrees of social media experience. The first workshop “Mapping a Realistic Social Media Strategy”, on October 10, will cover the fundamentals of social media tools. It is designed to help participants identify which tools are right for their needs. Participants will design their own custom, social media strategy as well as a targeted plan to implement that strategy.

The second workshop “Integrating your social web presence”, on October 17, will offer advanced strategies for social media veterans. It will assist participants with streamlining the process of keeping social media accounts fresh and engaging, as well as tips and tools on integrating those accounts to take full advantage of their capabilities while maximizing time and resources spent on the social web.

The workshops are scheduled at BookPeople in downtown Austin. Due to exclusive nature of the workshop, registration is limited to 25 participants. The cost is $279 with a 10% discount for members of Austin’s Social Media Club, Austin Interactive Marketing Association, American Marketing Association, and the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. Included in the price is a signed copy of “A Survival Guide to Social Media and Web 2.0 Optimization” complete with resource CD. Participants will also walk away with specific strategies tailored to their individual requirements.

For more information and to register, visit Deltina’s Web site: www.socialmediapower.com.

About Deltina Hay

Deltina Hay has written two substantial books on social media and Web 2.0, is a regular contributor of articles on the subject, and given countless presentations. She has the advantage over many social media consultants in that she is both a developer and a user of social media. As a publisher and small business owner, she knows firsthand how to apply the tools of social media to the industry, and as a developer, knows how to build them. While she has taught at the university level, her deep working knowledge of social media ideas as well as how to apply them in the real world make her writings and presentations some of the most exciting and accessible in the industry today.

Deltina Hay’s graduate education includes applied mathematics, computer science, and psychology.
