Good day to you all!

My name is Tasha and I'm one of Kellie's real life friends.

Normally, you can find me blogging about my life in general (specifically: classic films, sheep, sewing, crocheting, and Steve McQueen, among other things) at my little corner of the internet called Day by Day...and spending an indecent amount of time on Pinterest. ;)

That's what I do normally, but when my dear Kellie asked me if I would take care of Accordion to Kellie for her while she's gone, I became the temporary, honorary keeper-of-Kellie's-blog.

Which means I get to publish any notes that you, her lovely readers, leave while she's gone.

Oh, and bore you all with a few guest posts of my own.

*grin*

In all sincerity, I feel extremely honored that Kellie has entrusted me with her beautiful blog.

Aside from introducing myself, I have a reason for posting.

No Need to Say Goodbye

Quite unexpectedly, I am heading out of town! My sister and I are travelling with my Dad down to California to help him with some work he has down there.

It might be two to three weeks before I get back. I'm hoping to be able to sign in here and there along the way, but I can't count on that.

So in the meantime, I'm setting up a few fun scheduled posts, delving into the photo and memory archives to share some never before seen documents. I hope you enjoy them:) We even have a superb giveaway in store...

The fabulous Tasha will be chatelaine of Accordion to Kellie in my absence, moderating comments and keeping the home fires burning. You may even find a great guest post or two by our lovely blog sitter!

From the Kitchen | Scottish Shortbread

It's made of Butter, flour, sugar, vanilla, and nothing else. Mostly Butter. ♥

My great grandmother Kathrine Stuart, later Kitty Falconer, was born in the little Scottish hamlet of Pitlochry, and became a cook in a prestigious American household during the depression.

This recipe is tried and true. And horribly difficult to keep on hand. You better make a double batch.

-- Kitty Falconer's Shortbread --

2 1/2 C flour

1/2 lb (2 Cups) Butter

1/2 C sugar

1 Tb vanilla

Cream Butter and sugar. Beat till very smooth and fluffy.

Add the vanilla. Beat in half the flour. Knead in the other half with hands till dough has no cracks.

Divide into three parts, pat and shape with palms of hands into round cakes, approx. 1/2 in thick.

Prick tops with a fork to avoid puffing!

Bake at 350 till pale golden brown. (20-30 min)

Best stored in a waxpaper lined tin for up to a week to reach the perfect consistency... but you had better choose your hiding place carefully!

Then pour yourself a cup of tea, light a candle, and sit down to an evening of journaling by the fireside.

Today, the chickadees are singing, flitting from branch to snow covered branch - one of my very favorite sounds. Springtime is just around the corner, waiting to burst forth in a glory of warm earth and new life. My flower garden is sleeping under a heavy blanket of snow, but soon, what was once a cold, dead plot of earth will be bursting with life and color. There will be new calves down in the valley. Is there anything more adorable than a newborn calf? I think not. And lambs, ducklings, wild songbird nestlings.
And best of all, that warm, green smell of the world awakening from it's long, cold sleep - ready to paint the countryside with vibrant color and miraculous life.

I'm thankful for the seasons - each one filled with a wonder all it's own.

They're Gone!

So, I heard of the upcoming discontinuation of Google Friend Connect several months ago in passing - as it related to non-blogger blogs, I decided not to worry about it much. Not being very tech-savvy anyway, I didn't give it another thought... till this morning.

I woke up to find my GFC followers widget had vanished forever! Why? Why? First Blogger savagely eats 50 comments, then it annihilates my followers! Ahhh!

I'm sure those of you who have blogs of your own can relate to how much followers subscribing to a blog means to the blogger. It's the building of a network of readers who care enough to come back again and again to read what you have to say... and that is so encouraging to a lonely writer, sitting at her desk and staring at her blog, wondering "Does anyone really read this stuff anyways?" Seeing the numbers swell, one caring person at a time, is such an exciting feeling. And I have been extremely excited as we neared two hundred followers in my little GFC box, sitting there in the sidebar.

And that's where all this fiasco started - my little GFC widget was installed from the code brought over from my old blog, where I already had fifty seven followers. Instead of activating the built-in GFC widget in the Blogger layout, I just entered the code I already had. Simple, right? And I had found a way to bring all of the followers already subscribed to my writings over to the new blog, Accordion to Kellie.

All of the custom GFC settings were updated to my new Blogger account, and everything looked set to go.

Till this morning.

The little box that one hundred and ninety-one of you, my amazing readers, had opted to click on and join the bandwagon - had vanished, leaving me despondent and, I candidly admit, rather frantic.

But after awhile, quite peaceful.

You all didn't disappear. Only my precious little GFC number, which I had, in a way, been looking on as a judge of my merit as a blogger.

I'll still write, whether the little box in my sidebar reads five or five hundred. And I've been reminded to place the real value of my blogging in your wonderful comments, rather than how large a number shows up in my little followers box.

Does that number really judge one's value as a blogger? Twenty equals a tiny, insignificant little one, three hundred equals an up-and-coming one, and eight hundred or more means fame and popularity? If, so, I'll gladly trade in my silly little number for feedback from all of you who really care enough to follow me on this creative adventure. I want to share it all with you, and every time someone comes across this little blog and is blessed by something they find, my mission is accomplished.

Now for the perfect irony.

After I removed the useless, discontinued GFC code from my template, I had an idea.

I looked in the list of Blogger gadgets. Yes, there it was, the built-in followers gadget that I had never installed, not needing it because of my previous GFC code from the old blog.

I clicked add, and there was the familiar little box... but with members already in it! Somehow, part of those of you who had already subscribed in that method had gone into this uninstalled gadget, and were there, waiting in limbo;) Go figure...

Fifty-seven. The very same number that I originally started out this new blog with. Well, let's try it again from the top, shall we?

Do I love it when somebody subscribes to this blog? Yes, a thousand times! Each time I give myself a little hug. But whether that subscription come in the form of GFC, Feedburner/RSS, or simply a comment letting me know that someone has found my blog and enjoyed it, is all the same to me. A little number in my sidebar ought to have nothing to do with it.

And if you made it all the way to the bottom here, I salute you. Thanks for putting up with my little rant slash ramble in the world of hopeless computer illiteracy.

Outfit | Rustic Sparkle

Ruffle-necked sweater dress & belt - thrifted // Olive circle skirt - eShakti

When the afternoon breaks out with a stunning azure sky, the softly piled snow shining like a sheet of the most brilliant diamonds underneath a icy, sparkling sun, and your heart just sings with the sheer joy of being alive in such a world of matchless beauty, there's nothing like a walk in the woods with a camera for creative inspiration.

I probably should have done a more elaborate hair style to match the rustic glamour of my theme, but the sun was setting fast, so I ran out the door as I was, sporting a simple messy braid tied with a bit of eyelet. I tried to capture the radiance, the magical, woodsy glamour of an icy world set on fire by a sparkling sun.

I've been meaning to feature the details of this plum ruffle-necked dress in a post ever since I first shared it here, and I definitely have some knit tops &/or dresses with that wonderful gathered detail ruched in a zigzag pattern all around the neckline on my sewing list! It's is the perfect detail for this style - not overly dressy while being very fun and fancy. I'm sure it would be as easy as pie to add this detail to a simple tee, as well! Have to try that soon...

The fullness of the silky rayon skirt is delightful to wear, also - most conducive to dancing and twirling! A full circle skirt is really a foolproof way to add a dash of feminine charm to your ensemble, and you can set the mood from there by how you style it - in this case, a heavy suede belt, a soft braid, a string of pearls and some diamond clip-on earrings are meant to embody the whimsical, sparkling, rustic mood of a snow-laden late February afternoon.

Beauty Parlor: Rope Crown Tutorial

I've finally found the time and gumption to attempt a hair tutorial for you! The photo quality is terrible, and I suspect my expressions might pass for a Study in Ten Parts on Achieving the Cheesy Smile...

...But all that aside, I do hope you enjoy! My next goal is to get a video tutorial series set up, but for now... Well, it's for now. ;)

You will need:

Hair long enough to wrap around your head at least halfway

hair bands

bobby pins and/or hair clips

Time:

It takes approx. 5-10 minutes to do this style, depending on how much hair you have to braid!

Text Instructions:

With a side part, section off a portion of hair from the top of your head. This gives a bit of pouf and volume, making a more vintage silhouette.
Pin in place - I like to use three bobbies in a criss-cross for stability
Separate your hair into two equal sections.
Divide each section into two once more, keeping both halves of your hair apart. You may want to clip up the side you're not working on, out of the way.
Take both sections of hair and twist them to the left.
Keeping both sections tightly twisted, twist them together to the right. It is important to twist both sections together the opposite of the way you twisted them individually, as this is what forms the rope.
Continue twisting to the right, clear to the end of your hair. Fasten with a hair band.
Repeat steps 4-7 on the remaining side.
Giving each rope strand an extra twist or two to make them smooth and even, wrap them, one at a time, around your head in a crown. Tuck the rope ends underneath the main rope, and pin or clip in place. My hair is so heavy that I've found only octopus clips will keep it up, but hairpins might be the perfect invisible solution for your hair!

That's it - what takes so many words to describe is truly quite simple, once you've mastered the concept of rope braiding.

We have been speaking a great deal about him the last few days, have we not? Making the rounds of the wonderful circle of Party goers, it would seem that Sir Percy Blakeney is quite the most popular hero of them all. And 'tis only as it should be...

To those of you who have not yet discovered Baroness Orczy's masterpiece, I encourage you to acquire a copy (or if desperate, click here) with all speed and prepare to embark on the delightful and thrilling adventure of joining the ranks of the League. Also highly recommended are the Librivox audio recordings by Karen Savage, a beautiful and expressional reader who not only has a perfect British accent, but speaks French as well!

To those of you who are already enamored with all things pertaining to the small red flower and it's enigmatic namesake, I salute you. You have impeccable taste.

Literary Heroine Blog Party 2012 - The Questions

Introduce yourself! Divulge your life's vision, likes, dislikes, aspirations, or something completely random! As you doubtless know, my name is Kellie. I've written quite a bit about myself over the years on this blog, and you can get a pretty good idea of who I am right here!

What, to you, forms the essence of a true heroine? (I know - I had a lot to say here. Bear with me;)
I believe the essence of a true heroine stands in the fact that she is a true lady, in every sense which that wonderful word stands for. She embraces the glorious, God given role of women to support and uplift men, allowing them to become great and confident leaders. Does this mean she is a weak bodied, weak minded doormat? Far from it! I believe it takes far greater strength and courage to be a real lady then ever it would be to stand as a self-sufficient, self-centered, self-empowered feministic individual.

She embraces femininity in all of it's glory - regardless of her situation in life, she is an innate homemaker and source of comfort for those she loves. She may be physically strong or weak, naturally gentle or fiery, her taste for frills or flannel - that's not what being a lady is about.

She is courageous, because no matter what trials or dangers she must overcome, she knows her treasures are stored up where moth nor rust can corrupt - and that all she must do to conquer is follow God's leading faithfully, to the end. She is selfless, supporting those in her life rather than pulling them down, as she knows that true love gives all without expectation of return.

And lastly, when, as a human character, she stumbles and falls, she has the grace to acknowledge her imperfections and the faith to ask for forgiveness, ever learning from her mistakes. And ideally, she has a saving sense of humor! =)

A tall order, no? But by God's grace, I truly believe that each and every one of us has the power to become that heroine - a woman after God's heart.

Share (up to) four heroines of literature that you most admire and relate to.

Sophy Stanton-Lacy, from Heyer's The grand Sophy. This regency heroine is not only quite as adept at verbal riposte as dear Lizzy, she is both unconventional and unashamedly feminine, a fearless and competent horsewoman, crack shot, loyal friend, and is ridiculously tall and strong for a lady of the age;) And. . . green is her favorite color! She is understanding, tactful, humorous, and even, at times, susceptible. Why no one has made a period film out of any of Georgette Heyer's many delightful works is beyond me. ♥

Molly Gibson from Wives and Daughters. She is gentle yet strong - her love was so great that she was able to put the happiness of the man she loved above even her own. Her selflessness is inspiring, and her patience with certain people, who I would probably have given short shrift to... truly humbling.

Arabella Bishop, from Stabiani's Captain Blood. She is pure, compassionate, spirited, and, to a degree, a leader. Her love of righteousness and truth is stronger than anything else. Not to mention, she just must have been marvelous to win the love of Peter Blood! :)

Clotilde from Henty's The Young Carthaginian. She is spirited, strong, and tenderhearted, and aside from being lovely and intelligent, was capable of marching, and if need be, fighting alongside her clan to maintain their right to live in freedom from oppression.

Again, why are there no film adaptations of any of G. A. Henty's works?

The Young Carthaginian would make a film of epic proportions. Maybe someday I'll go ahead and do it myself;)

Five of your favorite historical novels?

What a dreadful question - it's like having to choose a favorite child! ;)

Out of those five books who is your favorite main character and why?

I chose Sir Percy Blakeney last year, so this year I'll go with Prince Michael from The Chestry Oak. This book is a wonderful Hungarian tale set in WWll, but with an almost ancient, fairytale quality.

Michael, a young lad born a prince into the noble house of Chestry, was raised with courage, self-control, discernment, a love of freedom and liberty, and great responsibility - and when his homeland, his family, and even his very existence is threatened by Nazi invasion, he must draw upon his innermost reserves of will and faith to preserve the precepts passed on from his wise and heroic father. This is one of the few books that caused tears to course quietly down my face as I read, my innermost heart challenged and inspired by this picture of the heroic and indomitable human spirit.
Read it;)

Out of those five books who is your favorite secondary character and why?

Secondary character - Sheik Ilderim from Ben-Hur! This fierce and fiery fellow makes me laugh - and his wonderful relationship with his stunning horses melts my heart;)

If you were to plan out your dream vacation, where would you travel to - and what would you plan to do there?

My ultimate, lifelong dream trip would be to Scotland - and I would do everything. Even Haggis. :)

But I also want to go everywhere else! England, France, Germany, China, Africa (I have to stay at the Cottars Safari Camp, remember?) Austria, perhaps I'd even end up in Moscow! And I'd love to go to Australia and New Zealand. In short, I need to travel!

What is your favorite time period and culture to read about? That is a hard one! Time periods and culture are my favorite thing to read about... will that work? Good:) I find that most of the time I find myself in 17-20th c. England...

You have been invited to perform at the local charity concert. Singing, comedy, recitation - what is your act comprised of? I think a rendition of 'On How To Be Lovely' (Funny Face - Audrey Hepburn and Kay Thompson) with Tasha would be perfect. Wearing blue fringed tablecloths, of course.

If you were to attend a party where each guest was to portray a heroine of literature, who would you select to represent? Cecily Cardew! One - I desperately need to create and wear this dress. Two, I would delight in randomly bestowing quote jems from The Importance Of Being Earnest on my companions. "But I don't like German. It isn't at all a becoming language. I know perfectly well that I look quite plain after my German lesson."

What are your sentiments on the subject of chocolate? My sentiments are such that they quite overcome me, at times. . .*faints*

Your duties met for the day, how would you choose to spend a carefree summer afternoon? About now, the perfect afternoon sounds like taking my book, picnic hamper, and fishing pole and floating in our driftboat all day on the lake. With bare feet and an enormous floppy hat. Mmmm...

Create a verbal sketch of your dream hat - in such a way as will best portray your true character. So I love hats. I could describe half a dozen that I could call my favorite, but for this question, I think my rattan pith helmet describes my personality best. It can go on Safari or attend a tea party with equal class, and is rather unique. It's sturdy, practical, and adorable. =)

Yesterday, according to Tradition, is National Reading, Chocolate, and Lovely Cosyness in General Day. Journaling, blogging, reading Georgette Heyer (My Lord John, marvelous so far!) and sipping tea all. day. long. Snuggling with my cat in the rocking chair, and listening to lovely romantic music. My sisters sneaking about, snipping paper hearts and wrapping mysterious small packets that invariably turn out to be shockingly bright works of art in colored pencil or maybe a tiny cowgirl doll stitched by hand.

This year, I got a set of two hand crafted clay Scarlet Pimpernel hairpins. Does my sister know me, or what? I plan to feature them in a Marguerite inspired outfit post soon... I know, I'm terrible about posting things right after I promise them to you. But they are all on the list, and I will get to them...! ;)

The Scarlet Pimpernel hairpins are wonderful. So was the crumbling, tottering, double-layer cake complete with chocolate frosting that the girls made for me. And the box of Hornady LeverRevolution .30-30 ammo.

Oh yeah. My dad knows me pretty well, too.

And it snowed... perfect, tiny flakes that stick to your sleeve and show each wonderful, miraculous detail. Like powdered sugar falling from the sky.

My newly discovered love: chocolate mint oolong tea from Stash. Like drinking bliss from a teacup.

In a moment of weakness, I mixed a packet of Swiss Miss into the piping hot blend.

And very nearly died of scrumptious overload.

I love having my birthday in February...

Life hurtles on...

at the moment, I am so tired I can hardly hold my head up. But it's that sleepy, contented weariness, with a small, blissful smile playing around the corners of my mouth - the kind of weariness when you wish for nothing more than to lie down and reflect, to sort out the thousand and one ideas, memories, plans, priorities, and simply recharge after a whirl of joyous productivity.

Saturday I was in Moscow, ID with my brother, watching some friends compete in the State robotics competition. Their team, Intelligent Design, did wonderfully, and the whole trip down there was so much fun. Sunday we also spent with friends, while the days in between have been filled with design work, a taffy-pulling party, a Wall Tent sleepover, a project DOTT with Tasha and both our brothers, and prepping for the Literary Heroine Blog Party! I wish I had pictures to share, but unfortunately I have none at the moment;(

My life up here in my tent in the woods is mostly that of an extreme hermit in the winter months, usually seeing the world outside our long, snowy driveway once a week, if that - so I've been quite delighted by this deluge of merriment!

And tomorrow, I turn twenty.

I well remember the first time I read the Anne books. When I was a little girl of nine, I first met her, and she has become so much more to me than merely Anne of Green Gables. She is Anne of the Island, Anne of Windy Poplars, Anne of the perfect House of Dreams. And most importantly, she is Anne, the inspiration and confidante for my passionate love of the beauty, the thrill, the adventure of everyday life - for when is the grand adventure to come if we do not welcome it with open arms and open minds every moment of our lives?

“You always seemed to have some secret delight … as if every day of life was an adventure."

So Anne was described. And I want to be like that, too.

And as I read and re-read each and every story following Anne's journey to womanhood over the years, I felt as if she was always somehow just my age, and always would be. At fourteen, I would follow Anne's children into Rainbow Valley and see herself, Mrs. Doctor dear, sitting on the veranda of Ingleside doing mending... but somehow, she was still my age, perfectly sympathizing with my fourteen-year-old joys and sorrows. And as I slowly grow up, there she is, right beside me. Now we're turning twenty, and though I've imagined what it might be like, I now finally see myself as I am, arrived at two decades.

"Anne laughed and sighed. She felt very old and mature and wise -- which showed how young she was. She told herself that she longed greatly to go back to those dear merry days when life was seen through a rosy mist of hope and illusion, and possessed an indefinable something that had passed away forever. Where was it now -- the glory and the dream?"

"To think that this is my twentieth birthday, and that I've left my teens behind me forever," said Anne, who was curled up on the hearth-rug with Rusty in her lap, to Aunt Jamesina who was reading in her pet chair. They were alone in the living room. Stella and Priscilla had gone to a committee meeting and Phil was upstairs adorning herself for a party.

"I suppose you feel kind of sorry" said Aunt Jamesina. "The 'teens are such a nice part of life. I'm glad I've never gone out of them myself."

Anne laughed.

"You never will, Aunty. You'll be eighteen when you should be a hundred. Yes, I'm sorry, and a little dissatisfied as well. Miss Stacy told me long ago that by the time I was twenty my character would be formed, for good or evil. I don't feel that it's what it should be. It's full of flaws."

"So's everybody's," said Aunt Jamesina cheerfully. "Mine's cracked in a hundred places. Your Miss Stacy likely meant that when you are twenty your character would have got its permanent bent in one direction or 'tother, and would go on developing in that line. Don't fret over it, Anne. Do your duty by God and your neighbor and yourself, and have a good time. That's my philosophy and it's always worked pretty well...."

Dear Aunt Jamesina. Why can't we all remain in our 'teens? I think it's because we are afraid to hold on to that sense of wonder, of the thrill and mystery of the entire world unfolding before us. Life is holding out the sparkling allure of a new, untasted adventure, and as we grow older, collect more experience of the often bitter realities of life, we let slip our grasp on that first simple faith in the beauty of the everyday. Because it does take faith. And faith takes courage.

But the reward is a life of unlimited beauty and adventure, no matter where we find ourselves, or what circumstances we have to live with.

Don't be afraid to grow older. Age is really of no importance, nor is the list of self-made accomplishments you have still undone. As long as you are living a life given to Christ, following His leading, you are living the greatest, most fulfilling adventure of all.

And that is what makes this life beautiful.

Today I want to thank God for my life, and the endless beauty He is constantly showering on me.

February seems to be the perfect month for lovely blog parties! My sweet blogging friend Grace of Grace's Garden Walk is hosting one as well - the jane austen literary garden party!

And because I do love them so, and because this is such a lovely one, I had to share with you and take part. Enjoy!

(I'm listening to the Miramax Emma soundtrack, sipping chocolate-mint oolong tea and nibbling a chocolate orange with my sister as I type... it's been ages since I had one of those. Used to be my favorite. Now I'm recalling why;) Please tell me I'm not the only one who adores whacking the chocolate ball open and savoring each orange-infused segment!)

{one} let us start by your telling a little bit about your own self. tell us a bit of your personality. perhaps, tell a bit of your interests and pastime.

My name is Kellie Ann. I only learned to accept that my name does NOT have an 'E' a few years ago...it was a sore vexation, I assure you! I am a farmgirl, an aspiring designer, and a bibliophile who learned to read at the tender age of four. I've read all of my favorite books up to twelve times or more. I've consumed thousands of books in the ensuing sixteen years! I am striving to take every moment of my life captive for the glory of my Savior, Jesus Christ.

I have recently been feeling a passionate longing to purchase a DSLR and take up photography in earnest;)

I love history, sprigged muslin and plaid, old books, copper chestnut Morgan horses, historical costuming, long walks in the rain, wild Russian music, long flowing hair, floral prints, and practical daydreaming.

And I don't like chocolate. Oh, you don't believe me? I really don't blame you...

{two} what literary character {whether it be in a film or book} would you say, most describes your personality and mannerisms?

Have you read Georgette Heyer's The Grand Sophy? That book. . . is adorable! I was never able to relate so fully to a regency character before - not even dear Lizzy. Sophy is me. I'm quite convinced.

The grand Sophy is unconventional, lively, witty, unashamedly feminine yet bold, a fearless and competent horsewoman, crack shot, loyal friend, and is ridiculously tall and strong for a lady of the age;) And. . . green is her favorite color! ♥ The plot, by the way, is a delightful read for a cozy rainy day. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

{three} what would you describe as the most lovely place to live in 1700's England? a cottage surrounded by woods or a mansion perhaps, to the same resemblance as Pemberley in Miss Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

A toss-up between Pemberley and Barton Cottage! I could be sublimely content in either. I would delight in the wild beauty yet lavish cultivation of gorgeous Pemberley, and I always fancied the duties tendant as mistress there would suit me nicely=) But the sweet homeiness of the Cottage by the sea, with it's pianoforte and kitchen garden, would be a kind of paradise as well!

She is a true lady, in every sense that that wonderful word stands for. She embraces femininity in all of it's glory - regardless of her situation in life, she is an innate homemaker and source of comfort for those she loves. She is brave, because no matter what trials or dangers she must overcome, she knows her treasures are stored up where moth nor rust can corrupt - and that all she must do to conquer is follow God's leading faithfully, to the end.

{six} if you could spend afternoon tea in the company of your favorite literary heroine, to whom would you spend it with?

I would love to take tea with Mrs. Tiggywinkle, actually! We would discuss the best kinds of muslins and cambrics, go taste things from the garden, and dine on orange marmalade with crumpets. I wouldn't be surprised if we were to sing some duets in the back room around the spinet made from thistledown, either.

And I wouldn't loose my pocket handkin.

Herbal tea, please! I do love the smell of coffee, but I never got used to that taste that I describe as 'liquid burnt.' (Have only sampled my dad's black coffee...) I've never been to Starbucks in my life, though I suspect that if I ever tried some of their 'fancy' coffee drinks, I would become an addict like everyone else=)

I think Bingley and Jane are so adorable! And Anne and the Captain, though so slow and stupid, made up for it all at the end by the beauty of their discovered true love.

A finished Etsy order - this skirt is my all time favorite. I've sewn over a score of them by now, and they consist of over half the skirts in my wardrobe;) In fact, I'm wearing one done up in denim as I type!

I just received my first ever order from ModCloth! I procured a new black wool coat, the very adorable and smart A Clear Black Night Jacket. It's quite simply fabulous, especially as the sleeves are just the right length for gargantuan-limbed me:) I've been embroidering little yellow rosebuds all down the front shoulder panels in the evenings. Love.

And, included in my order was a delightful surprise - this fetching yellow striped bow headband! It's just the thing when you're home and feeling lazy/snuggly but want to add a bit of vintage glam;) I've worn it all day for three days in a row... obsessed much?

I couldn't resist adding these stunning notebooks from Rifle Paper Co. to my order to get the free shipping offer - and I'm so glad I did! Really, it's not like me to buy anything at all... I'm a Scottish penny-pincher through and through=) but every once in a great while, I'll splurge on something I want most desperately. I know that because usually I'll think about buying it for weeks or months beforehand. These journals fit the ticket.

I've been freshening up the blog design - what do you think? Does it load too slowly? Too cluttered? I love feedback!

I have a fun idea for a new header photo shoot - because seeing me staring at me like some sort of waxworks every time I see the blog is getting a little on my nerves, to tell the truth.

But the overall scheme looks rather pretty by lamplight. :)

And, my friends, I received a long-awaited packet from England today!

I'll never get over the thrill of seeing Royal Mail. It's so beautiful;) But even the postage was little regarded this time as I tore open the wrapper and beheld...

...well, suffice to say you'll be seeing it soon in a photo shoot.

And that I actually screamed with ecstasy. Although that's not saying much, because I can't scream. Sounds more like a seagull than anything...

Are these handwritten letters not fabulous? I'm in love!

I saw this fabulous 395-day Handwritten Letters challenge by artist Mary Kate McDevitt over on Studio Sweet Studio, and I'm infatuated. My heart always skips a beat for hand-drawn lettering, so this project has me really excited! Currently on day 62, so there are still plenty more to go. Be sure to drop by as time goes on to see what she's created each day!

Mary Kate's work is so beautiful - I could gaze at it for hours;) And her Etsy shop is gorgeous.
