However, there are some guidelines we need you to adhere to when marketing the CMS in order to ensure the integrity of the system.</itunes:summary>

As a reseller of our LightCMS system, you are invited to market and promote the CMS as your own product through your own website and through any other materials you care to produce. To facilitate this effort, we have provided some helpful marketing resources that you are welcome to use at no cost.

However, there are some guidelines we need you to adhere to when marketing the CMS in order to ensure the integrity of the system. So, we've compiled the following marketing guidelines to help you understand what you can and can't do with regards to marketing.

Things you CAN do:

You can utilize the content that we make available through our dynamically updated reseller marketing scripts. We make available a lot of great content that we keep up to date for you including text and video content for the web. You can find out more about what scripts are available on our reseller resources page.

You can use the concepts of our product sites as guides for your own site. In other words, you can shape your own site around how ours are shaped if you wish.

Things you CAN'T do:

You can't copy our text word for word. This is bad for all of us as search engines will punish us all for the duplicate content. Again, utilize our reseller scripts instead as described above.

You can't use our product site templates or site imagery. Naturally, you can use our included website templates as they are freely available to anyone, but the imagery and templates we create that are unique to our own product sites (i.e. not a part of a freely available design template) should not be used. A quick test to figure out if something is usable is to ask yourself if we have made it available for download. All of our included design templates can be downloaded through our system but our product website templates cannot.

You can't use the names of our products such as LightCMS, Radium3, Design Xpress, Custom Xpress, HTML Xpress ... etc. You can create similar products to these but you need to come up with your own names.

You can't reference any client of Element Fusion as a case study or design example for your own work. Only work that you have done or work that we have done on your behalf should be used in promoting your own product.

Should you have any questions about whether your marketing implementation adheres to these guidelines, please contact us at support@publishpath.com.

Using the reseller features script

<itunes:author />

This script should be added to the HTMLl of your site to display an unbranded list of CMS features.
<itunes:summary>This script should be added to the HTMLl of your site to display an unbranded list of CMS features.</itunes:summary>

To display an unbranded list of CMS features on your own website, simply cut and paste the following code snippet into the HTML of your website.

See an example of an unstyled features list dropped into one of our system's default templates.

You can style the features list in one or two columns

We've balanced the content on the features list into two columns. Each column is wrapped in a div. So, by default, the divs will display stacked on top of each other, creating a single column of features that fills its containing element. Or, by applying styles to the divs, you can allow them to display in two-column form. Here are the CSS statements we use to create a two column effect on our product sites.

#featuresColOne { float: left; margin-right: 5%; width: 47%; }
#featuresColTwo { float: right; width: 47%; }

You can also include links to demo videos

We offer a version of the features listing that includes links to feature demo videos where available. To implement the version including video, use the following code in place of the code listed above:

See an example of the features list with video dropped into one of our system's default templates.

Extra header content required for video version

To really make the videos work like they are intended, there's some additional code you'll need to drop into the header of your HTML page. If you're putting this on a site on our CMS system, you can easily do this by going to the page settings' advanced tab and dropping the code into the "additional header" field. If you're using any other system or a static site, you'll just need to place it between the
and
tags. Here's the code:

These scripts and styles provide the necessary functionality to open up the videos in a nice overlay on the features page for the best viewing experience. If you don't include them, the videos will still work, but they will open in the browser and scale to the size of the browser window, which usually results in a video that is dramatically larger than intended.

Using the reseller video script

<itunes:author />

Use this guide to embed a group of unbranded CMS demo videos onto your website.
<itunes:summary>Use this guide to embed a group of unbranded CMS demo videos onto your website.</itunes:summary>

To embed a group of unbranded CMS demo videos onto your own website, simply cut and paste the following code snippet into the HTML of your website:

See an example of the reseller video script dropped into one of our default system templates.

Watch the width

Because the video script embeds videos that are 640px wide with a 2px border on each side, you need to be sure the content area in which you drop this script is at least 645px wide. Otherwise, the videos my disrupt the layout of your web page.

Using the reseller pricing grid script

<itunes:author />

To display an unbranded pricing grid showing the package levels of the CMS, the page, storage and user limits of each package, and a listing of which features are included in which packages, simply copy and paste the code snippet in this article.
<itunes:summary>To display an unbranded pricing grid showing the package levels of the CMS, the page, storage and user limits of each package, and a listing of which features are included in which packages, simply copy and paste the code snippet in this article.</itunes:summary>

To display an unbranded pricing grid showing the package levels of the CMS, the page, storage and user limits of each package, and a listing of which features are included in which packages, simply copy and paste the following code snippet into the HTML of your website:

See an example of an unstyled pricing grid dropped into one of our system's default templates.

Set your own package names and pricing

You can customize the names and pricing for the packages output by the script. To set custom pricing, use a script as follows with a comma-separated list of prices for each package, starting with the lowest level and moving up to the highest:

To set custom package names and custom pricing, use a script as follows, pre-pending the name of your package followed by an underscore in front of your package price:

What about styling?

In order to provide you with ultimate flexibility to create your own styles, we have not included any styles inside the script (other than styles required to create the popup help functionality on the pricing grid). The markup is pure and will take on the style of whatever site you place the script in (you can see this on the examples above which are included in our templates with no special styles applied). That said, here are a few helpful ideas for styling the lists.

You can use our styles as a starting point on the pricing grid

If you want, you are welcome to take a look at the style sheets we have created for the pricing grid on own marketing websites for WaterCMS, SkyCMS and LightCMS. You are welcome to utilize these style sheets as a starting point for your own styles or even link directly to them to utilize them as is. You can find them at the following links:

WaterCMS -- http://publishpath.com/Websites/h20/templates/waterfinal/c/pricing.css

SkyCMS -- http://publishpath.com/Websites/divum/templates/sky/c/pricing.css

LightCMS -- http://publishpath.com/Websites/lumina/templates/light/c/pricing.css

Some basic CSS to add borders to the pricing grid

Adding borders to the pricing grid makes things a little easier to read. So, here are a few simple CSS statements you can add to your style sheet to achieve basic borders. Naturally, there's much more that you can do with CSS, but this will at least turn on some basic borders easily if you need a little help getting started.

div.tableholder { border: 2px solid #333; padding: 5px; }
table.signup td { border: 1px solid #333; padding: 5px; }
table.signup th { border: 1px solid #333; padding: 5px; }
table.signup { border-collapse: collapse; }

Add another website to your account

<itunes:author />

Watch video here.

Click on the < > symbols at the bottom left of the text editor to put you into the HTML view.

Add this attribute to your embed tag, base="http://accountsupport.publishpath.com/websites/WEBSITENAME/templates/TEMPLATENAME". This will tell your Flash player where to find your XML file. In step 5 we made sure that our XML file was in the template folder with our other HTML templates, so that is why we are using that address.

WEBSITENAME- This is the name of you site that you signed up for. It is the name that is in front of .publishpath.com. If your address was http://lightcms.publishpath.com then your website name would be lightcms.

TEMPLATENAME- This is the name of your template from the design manager. If you need help finding what this is, go to your design manager and see what template has a check to the left of the name. That is the template that your XML file needs to be and the name to use.

Next, go to your XML file in the design manger. Follow steps 1-4 above to get to the design manager.

Open a new window and make sure you are logged into your website.

Go to one of your text elements and upload your photos if you have not already. We suggest making a special folder for it so that it is easier to update in the future.

In the example below I have five images that I have in my FlashRotator folder.

Copy the Image URL that is at the top of the Image Manger.

Go back to your XML file and add this as the image location as seen in the image below.

If you have done everything properly your Flash slideshow will be showing up

Often designers who choose to create layouts with an absolutely positioned structure will run into issues because the layout cannot adapt to the changing content. Furthermore, the drop-down menus in the admin view use a variant of the Suckerfish method which requires some positioning via CSS.

Because the menus are inline with the rest of the page, they are subject to any CSS rules that might be in effect on that page and potentially their appearance/behavior can be modified unintentionally. I would recommend that anyone looking to explore these issues becomes familiar with the /Styles/water.css that is added to every page and avoid overriding the CSS rules in that document. To view the water.css stylesheet you will need an add-on for Firefox such as the Web Developer toolbar. Problem

When you try to connect to the FTP server you get one of the following error messages:
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Connection closed.
Connection timeout. No response from server.

Causes/Solutions

FTP server settings

The error is occurring because there is no server listening at the host name and port you entered. Check that you have specified the correct host and port. Port 21 is the default FTP port.

Software/Personal Firewall Settings

Another common reason is that a firewall software (Microsoft OneCare, McAfee Total Protection, Norton Internet Security, etc) running on your system is stopping your FTP client from making outgoing connections. To fix this problem add your FTP client to the list of allowed applications in your firewall software.

Multiple Software/Personal Firewalls

If you have Windows XP firewall enabled and a third party firewall software (e.g. McAfee Total Protection, etc.) installed, disable the Windows XP firewall or uninstall the third party firewall software. There are known problems with having both firewall applications running at the same time.

Anti-virus Software

If you are running anti-virus software and having strange problems connecting, disable the "Worm protection" in Norton Anti-virus. If McAfee VirusScan is installed and the "Spyware Plugin" is enabled, go to McAfee VirusScan Console and uncheck the "Prevent FTP outbound" option in the "Port Blocking" dialog of the "Access Protection Properties". You also might need to add your FTP client to the exception list.

LSP Layer

Software firewall applications and other utilities hook into the LSP layers of Winsock. If the hook is not properly written, connection attempts may fail under certain situations.

The solution is to identify and update the application causing the problem. Spyware and adware are known to hook into the LSP layers as well. To remove them install and run Ad-Aware. To manually remove LSP hooks install the LSP Explorer add-on for Ad-Aware. This procedure is recommended for experienced users only. It's easy to break the system.

Router Firmware

This is an unlikely case but a buggy router firmware may cause exactly the problem described above (e.g. Linksys). To fix it update the firmware of your router. You can usually update the router firmware in the router web administration interface or visit the manufacturer's website for router updates and further information.

But, there is an easy fix.

Once you have added a form element to a page, simply hover over the edit button for the element and select "settings." Then, uncheck the box that says "include basic form styles" and update. This will remove all default styles for the form element and you will be free to style your form however you wish.

HINT: You might want to copy the default form styles which are rendered on the page over to your custom stylesheets before you disable the form styles. By doing this, you will have a starting place for the form styles and can simply tweak and change as needed.

How do I upload and choose my design?

<itunes:author />

You can upload your own designs, but then you have to apply them through "My Designs."
<itunes:summary>You can upload your own designs, but then you have to apply them through "My Designs."</itunes:summary>

Take a screen shot of a website page that is using your template. You can take a screen shot by putting the site on your screen and pressing the "print screen" key on your keyboard (at the upper right of many keyboards). This will copy the image to your clipboard. Then, open an image editing software and paste the image from your clipboard.

Size the image to EXACTLY 160 pixels wide by 120 pixels tall.

Export the image as a .GIF file and name the image exactly the same as the name of the template for which you are creating the thumbnail, appending the .GIF extension. For example, if the template is named "Inside.html" the thumbnail image should be named "Inside.html.gif".

Save the image to your computer.

Repeat for each template in your design.

Once you have created a thumbnail image for each template in your design, you now need to get the thumbnails loaded onto the system with your design. Follow these steps:

Login to your website and select My Website --> Designs from the top toolbar. This will take you to the design manager.

Click on "My Designs" and look for your design in the list.

Click the "Download" button next to your design. This will download a .zip file containing your design.

Locate the .zip file on your computer and unzip the files.

Rename the .zip file you just downloaded to something different. This will serve as a backup of your design.

Copy the thumbnail images you created earlier into the folder that you just unzipped.

Rezip the design folder containing all of the downloaded files plus the new thumbnails and name the .zip file exactly what the original .zip file was named when you downloaded it.

Go back to the "My Designs" page on your website and click on "upload a design now" at the top.

Browse to the location of the new .zip file you just created and upload.

That's it. The new design files should overwrite the old files and everything should be the same, with the addition of the thumbnails you just created.

Here is a listing of items to help you design your own navigation to your site.</itunes:summary>

Navigation is one of the most important considerations when designing your site. Our software builds out navigational menus dynamically as pages are added to the site. All you have to do is add the correct tokens to your templates and style them with CSS to match your vision. Please refer to our token reference guide for detailed information about the navigational tokens.

This article will explain a few best practices for you to consider as you plan the navigation for your site.

Design your navigation in a way that can be styled by CSS as unordered lists of links. Our system outputs the menu items dynamically as unordered lists. Therefore, you need to make sure you design your menus so that the look you desire can be achieved through CSS styling. If you have questions about this, please contact us and we'll be happy to take a look at your design.

Choose a navigational menu configuration. There are two navigational configurations that are most common:

Option one: Root menu plus section menu plus breadcrumb. Using these three navigational tokens in combination provide a great way to separate out the navigational functionality but still provide ready access to all appropriate pages in your site.

Example: One of our product websites, www.lightcms.com, is a good example of this type of navigational layout. Visit the site, or see a visual example on our token reference page.

Option two: Global menu. The second common option is to use a single global menu which will generate a nested list of all pages in your site.

Example: This support site provides a good example of global menu navigation. Notice the single, vertical, expandable list of menu items on the left side of the site.

You may download any of the fully-functional design templates that are included with the system (see all of our available templates in our design viewer). To download a design, login to your website and select "My Website --> Designs" from the top toolbar. Then, click the "Design Gallery" tab and you will see all of our available designs. Click on the design you want, then click the "download" button to download a .zip file containing the design in its entirety.

By doing this, you can see how we create the HTML and CSS code for designs on our system. Plus, you can even use one of our designs as a starting point for your own design if you wish.

Barebones template pack

Our barebones templates are great for designers needing a solid starting point for making templates for the CMS. With minimal "style," they are perfect for the designer that wants to start with a "blank canvas" and build their design on top of it, or for designers who need a reference when building their templates from scratch. The HTML templates offer several distinct home, inside, and admin layouts along with navigation options such has horizontal, vertical, accordion, and drop-down menus. You can use as many of them as you like in your designs. The included CSS provides the underlying layout positioning as well as classes to style all of the content elements provided by the system. Finally, the templates include all of the system tokens and lots of code comments to make everything easy to understand and modify.

These templates were intentionally left un-styled as much as possible so designers can focus on mark-up, tokens, and style. Feel free to use these as the starting framework for your CMS templates – they're full-functioning and ready to go – just add your own styles.

cut-up based on our years of experience. Every website is a unique
design solution but there are some general guidelines that will make
your design more practical, easy to code, and better for your site's
visitors. Please consider these suggestions as you build your
masterpiece:

Color. Use web color palettes. Stick within
the RGB gamut right from the start to avoid color shifts. It may be
helpful to load the web swatch palettes in your favorite design
    application.

Color 2. Avoid very subtle
contrast and hue changes. The biggest difference between designing for
the printed page and for the web is the variable nature of the way
users experience the web. Monitor size is one thing (more later), but
so is color. Your website has the potential to be viewed on perhaps
thousands of different display devices from tiny PDA screens to
cinema-sized LCD projectors – each with its own unique color
calibration (or more likely lack thereof), brightness, contrast,
refresh rate, color depth and age. You can't ever be sure just how your
site will be viewed so make sure your design doesn't rely on a
perfectly calibrated display to see your precise color transitions and
effects. Give it just the smallest bit of contrast to make sure all
visitors can experience your design as it was intended — more or less.

Size.
Design for everyone. While most of us designers use large, high
resolution displays, most of the web is still surfing along using
displays at 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. In fact, there are still
plenty of users out there using 800 x 600 resolution. While that may be
hard to believe just look at a handful of the top websites on the web
and you'll see designs that take no chances and make sure their content
    is fully visible to users even at 800 x 600; Adobe (http://www.adobe.com/), Apple (http://www.apple.com/ ), Microsoft (
    http://www.microsoft.com/ ), and Yahoo (http://www.yahoo.com/
) are examples, just to name a few. The biggest issue is horizontal
scrolling – which can be difficult for users to understand and is a big
no-no in the web world. Keep your site design narrow enough so that the
width of your content fits comfortably inside an 800 x 600 browser
window. There is some variance, but generally 750 to 775 pixels is
pretty reliable. Vertical scrolling is ok when you have a lot of
content but keep in mind that content in the first 450 pixels from the
top is what we'd call "above the fold" – put your most important
content and especially navigation up there. Our free downloadable
design templates are setup with guides to make this part a breeze.

Fonts.
There are a couple of things to remember when it comes to fonts.
Anything that is going to be actual text has to be in a web safe font.
Just like when you send a job to press and have to include the fonts
you used, so goes the web. The only problem is you can't just send your
visitors fonts so you have to use what they have on their system. The
so-called web-safe fonts are: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, Georgia, Times
New Roman, Comic Sans, Courier New, Impact, Arial Black, and Trebuchet.
Not exactly a stunning list, but these fonts are optimized to be read
on screen and are great for your body text. Feel free to use more
exotic fonts as images in headers and spot graphics. And don't forget
you're designing pages for a dynamically driven CMS site – make sure
your menus are set using web fonts as they'll be generated in real time
by the server. Check out this handy tool for previewing web safe fonts
    at various settings — http://typetester.maratz.com/

Layout.
Simple, clean layouts are often best on the web. Try to choose colors
and graphics carefully and avoid unnecessary gradients, drop shadows,
rounded, irregular, or organic shapes, and transparent layered effects.
Some effects can be difficult to reproduce using HTML without resorting
to complex mark-up using large graphics. When in doubt, go simple. Flat
color, images that tile (repeat indefinitely in either or both
directions), rectangular formats, and subtle rules that can be
reproduced using CSS are easiest for the browser to render and will
make your site load faster and more reliably. This, in turn, makes
    your visitors' experience even better.

Navigation.
Keep your navigation clear, consistent and easy to find. Clever,
complex navigation might win you a design award, but simple clear
navigation that even my mom can figure out wins you traffic. If
visitors can't find what they are looking for on your website, they'll
probably go somewhere else. Put the navigation high on the page and
present it in a clear and organized manner. Try to keep it consistent
from page to page and, when possible, organize links into logical
sections. Four or five interesting categorical groups of pages is much
easier to navigate than endless lists of links.

Using the helpful information below, you can set-up and manage your own domains and avoid all set-up fees.</itunes:summary>

Domains can be your friends.

In order for a domain (i.e. www.yoursite.com) to work with your website, you have to configure the domain to point to our servers. We know that this can be intimidating, but don’t be scared. We’ve designed our software as a do-it-yourself product. Many of you want to handle your own domain set-up. Using the helpful information below, you can set-up and manage your own domains and avoid all set-up fees.

However, some of you would probably rather not bother with this. That’s why we offer a Complete Domain Set-up package called Domain Xpress (see below). Order Complete Domain and Email Set-up and we’ll take care of all your domain issues for you.

Free Email is Available

As a part of your website package, we offer you up to 500 email boxes with over 6GB of storage for each box. Email is provided by Google Apps, http://www.google.com/a, which is a leading email service providers. Your email can be accessed online through Google's powerful web interface, or through your own email client software (such as Outlook or Outlook Express). Also included in the package is group calendaring, online documents and chat capabilities -- all on your own domain. There is no additional monthly fee for these services. However, we do require that you pay $50 for our Domain Xpress (see below). This is a one-time fee that covers the cost of setting-up and configuring these services to work on your domain.

Configuring all DNS issues.

Changing MX records for you after you register for the Google Mail at http://www.google.com/a.

Do-it-yourself Domain Configuration

If you don't require the email addresses we provide and you want to setup your domains on your own, you can save the $50 fee and do it yourself. The following is a simple guide on configuring your own domains.

Domain Terms

There are four domain-related terms you need to know:

Domain Registrar

This is an organization authorized to register domains. Popular registrars include: GoDaddy.com, NetworkSolutions.com, Register.com, and Verio.com. We do not endorse these organizations nor do we receive any compensation from them. We simply provide them for reference.

DNS

DNS is an acronym for “Domain Name Service” and refers to all of the stuff involved in using a domain to direct traffic to a website or to email.

DNS Host

An organization that controls DNS for a domain. This can be the same as the Domain Registrar, but it doesn’t have to be.

DNS Record

The individual instructions contained within DNS that tell a domain what to do. Types of DNS records include Address Records (for websites) and MX Records (for email).

If you don’t have a domain registered yet

Register your domain through a domain registrar. Choose a registrar and follow their instructions to register and pay for your domain.

Use your domain registrar as your DNS host. Most registrars include DNS hosting as a part of their registration package.

Set your domain’s DNS Address Record to Our Servers. The final step is to set the DNS Address record (or “a” record) for your domain to point to our servers. Use the DNS controls provided by your Domain Registrar/Host to set your domain’s A record to the following IP address: 75.126.211.188.

If you already have a domain that you want to transfer

If someone else set up your website for you originally, you may need to work with them to complete these steps. Remember that if you paid for your website, then you own the domain and have a right to request the information you need as well as to make whatever changes you need to your DNS.

Who is your Domain Registrar and DNS host? You need to determine what organization registered your domain and who is hosting DNS for your domain.

Option 1 – Make your domain registrar your DNS host. If DNS is hosted by someone besides your domain registrar, you could choose to have DNS hosting transferred back to your registrar.

Option 2 – Leave your DNS hosting as is. If DNS is hosted by someone else and they are willing to work with you, you could choose to leave everything as is and proceed to step 2.

Set your domain’s DNS Address Record to our Servers. Either use the DNS controls provided by your Domain Registrar/Host or employ the help of whoever is hosting your DNS, but in either case, the ultimate goal is to set your domain’s A record to the following IP address: 75.126.211.188.

What about email?

As mentioned above, we can provide you with up to 500 email boxes with over 6GB of storage each through Google Apps, http://www.google.com/a. There is no additional monthly cost for this service, but you must pay our one-time $50 Domain Xpress setup fee for us to help you set up your DNS entires for you.

If you don't wish to use our email solution, that's ok. You can have your website hosted with us and host your email anywhere else that you like. Just as the DNS address record (“A” record) instructs the domain where to point website visitors, the DNS Mail Exchange record (“MX” record) tells the domain where to point email. So, you don’t have to change anything about your email in order to use your new website. Simply point your A record at our software, your MX record at your email provider and you’re finished.

Or, of course, we can handle all of this for you through our one-time $50 Domain Xpress Service.
