Wainwright would give up a single walk, which was just his sixth total free pass of the season. Wainwright looks to get back on track vs. the soft-hitting Friars and will be opposed by Edinson Volquez (3-4, 5.55 ERA) who is coming off an outing to forget in which he gave up five runs off five hits over five frames of work vs. the Nationals on Thursday; he’d strike out seven and walk four in the 6-2 setback. Here’s a chance for the veteran to get untracked against a team he enjoyed success against last year, going 1-1 with a 3.97 ERA in two starts vs. the Cards in 2012. Seven of these teams last ten vs. each other have fallen below the posted number. I believe these starters can duel into the latter frames and expect this one to stay “under” the number. Oakland Athletics vs. Texas Rangers

This is a 1* prediction on the “over” between the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers on Monday night (8:05 EST).

The 39-year old Bartolo Colon (3-2, 4.56 ERA) toes the rubber for the visitors; Colon faced the Rangers last Tuesday and gave up three runs off four hits with a walk and zero K’s over six frames of work, settling for a no-decision in the end. The veteran will be opposed by the 25-year old Josh Lindblom (3-5, 3.55 ERA) who was called up from Triple-A Round Rock after Alexi Ogando was moved to the DL. Lindblom had success in the minors but has yet to prove himself in any extended manner in the bigs. Note that the A’s have seen the total go “over” the number in 29 of 44 so far this year, which includes in 15 of 22 on the road. Suspect starters vs. explosive line-ups; the stage is set for a slugfest in the opener of this three game set.

Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -120
Kyle Lohse has struggled for Milwaukee this season. In 8 starts he has posted a 1-4 record. In his last three starts he has a 5.29 ERA and 1.941 WHIP. Those numbers are not good considering he is up against a St. Louis team that is batting .274 over the past 7 games and the Cardinals have a .346 on base percentage in that same span.

Milwaukee has had a hard time scoring runs which is why they are sitting on a 17-24 overall record. They are batting a mere .238 on the road and average 3.6 runs per game. For every win on the road they are losing two games and they have posted a 7-13 record. Kyle Lohse’s career has not seen much success against St Louis. So, a dime player has made $1,356 off of these plays alone. This number is based on a dime player playing a dime on 25* plays and then playing 2.5 times less that amount to equate to the 10* grading. The wager on the 10* plays would then be $400 The 25* plays in MLB stand at a profit of $11,350 based on the 49 releases this season. The add in the ‘15* Pair of Titans’ cards where each card has TWO DOGS lined at least +140 and higher and the 5* parlays that go with that card and they have made a combined profit of $5,288 wagering $600 on the 15* plays and $200 on the 5* parlays. So, you can readily see that win percentage matters little in my MLB methods and units made mean everything. For Saturday, Play the Marlins as a 10* wager.

Washington Nationals vs. San Diego Padres

This game fits a nice totals System that has won 9 of 10 time since 2004 and plays to the under for road favorites of -140 or higher with a total of 8 or less that are off a road favored win by 2 or more runs, while scoring 5 or more runs and are taking on a team off a home dog loss that scored 2 or less runs on 4 or less hits. We can look for another low scoring game here as Washington is averaging just 3.3 runs per game on .225 hitting on the road . In the series 5 of the last 7 here have gone under. Washington has Gio Gonzalez going and he was stellar in his lone start in this park going 6 strong innings without allowing a run. He will take on B. Smith who will look to improve off his first start where he allowed 6 runs in 1 inning. San Diego follows him up with a Solid 2.14 home bullpen era. Look for this game to go under the total. This is a 1* baseball pick on the “over” between the San Francisco Giants and the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night (8:40 EST).

Matt Cain (2-2, 5.04 ERA) gets the call for the visitors; Cain gave up a two-run shot in the fifth inning vs. the Braves, and that would be the only damage as the Giants would go on to win 8-2. Cain allowed three hits and two runs over eight frames of work while striking out seven. While he’s 2-1 in his last four starts at Coors Field, take note that his ERA is 4.91 in that span. Cain will be opposed by Jhoulys Chacin (3-2, 2.70 ERA) who is coming off a 3-0 loss to the Cards on Saturday; Chacin gave up two runs off eight hits with three walks over five frames of work. Chacin has looked pretty sharp this year, but note that he was an unremarkable 2-2 with a poor 6.34 ERA in friendly confines last season. In the opener of this four-game set, I’m unconvinced these starters will be able to make it deep and look for this one to sneak above the posted number as the game comes down the stretch.
