Lemnos HOLA Minimalist Clock

]]>The masterpiece designer clock "HOLA" from Lemnos Japan is part of the permanent collection at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, winner of the Japan's Good Design in 2000, and part of the Kazuo Kawasaki Artificial Heart Exhibition held in the 21st Century Museum of Comtemporary Art in Kanazawa Japan in 2006. This clock was designed in 1988 and has withstood the test of time and still in production into the 21st century, while continues to receive design awards. Made by the renowned designer Kazuo Kawasaki (see his Wikipedia page, the design director for Apple in early 1990s, the HOLA is made with high quality ABS plastic, as well as contoured glass to match the HOLA's inner design.

From the Kawasaki's design direction the inspiration for HOLA comes from man's first experience with time - the movement of the sun and the moon. The light and shadow cast from the celestial body movement is how we devised time. On-board the HOLA there a small, clear dimple that allows light to cast through it, creating a slight shadow, which in return signifies the hour hand. As it moves, our eyes will follow the raise and fall of time as we know. Kawasaki wants us to go back to how we originally looked at time, not by numbers per se, but by the movement of simple things we take for granted everyday (light, shadow, sun, etc). This minimalist and zen-approach to nature embodies the underlining quality and style used by Lemnos products.
