Born in Shanghai, in 1984, Jacky Tsai came to London after completing a BA at the China Academy of Art to study at Central St Martins, quickly making an impact on the fashion world with his iconic Floral Skull design made for Alexander McQueen.

Tsai’s vision is to create an unique marriage between traditional Eastern craftsmanship with contemporary Western pop art. Since graduating in 2008, Jacky has been fascinated with bringing together these cultural extremes through his art. His time at McQueen, where he worked in pattern design for the brand, created a fascination with fashion and textiles. Printing his striking images on silk, rather than paper, saw his floral skull image achieve critical acclaim.

La ricerca che propongo è un'indagine sul disturbo nell'immagine pittorica.

Sostengo che l'immagine pittorica sia composta da tre livelli tangibili: il supporto, l'immagine e il disturbo (rumore o livello entropico), il concetto gravita attorno a questi elementi;

La musica si avvale spesso del disturbo, la pittura non lo ha mai considerato un medium. Il disturbo è una conseguenza inevitabile dell'intervento pratico, un livello fisico che distorce le frequenze, nella luce come nel suono.

Può considerarsi disturbo, tutto quello che rimane sul supporto durante l'atto del dipingere, escludendo il colore. Oppure il degradarsi temporale del supporto e dell'immagine, che può permettere al messaggio di essere frainteso.

Philippe Meste is an action artist. His work drives violence and sex into the farthest corner of aestheticism.

His actions, which are wrongly seen to be antimilitaristic, give form and substance – in a natural setting – to our blasé fantasies of insecurity and violence. He attacks the flagship of the French navy, Aircraft carrier FOCH with a tiny boat armed with small rockets and activates the reality of war in the middle of the peaceful Mediterranean (‘L’attaque du Port de Toulon’ (The Attack of Toulon Harbour), 1993). He plants his sandbags and Kalashnikovs in the middle of Marseilles’ flea market and the citizen enters guerrilla warfare (‘Poste militaire’ (Military surveillance Post), 1994).

His language is that of the revolt of impunity: The limits of what is admissible and tolerable are pushed back without hesitation, in the name of art. Anachronistic inadequate violence that tries to shakes us out of consumerist lethargy and an ‘I couldn’t give a damn’ attitude.

He uses his weapons (‘Gunpower’) to explore inflicted or suffered violence. In this way he connects policed social awareness and the primary rebellious subconscious. Defending and attacking. Yet the artist is not a guerrilla or sniper. He is just an explorer of human morbidity.

Weapons are seen as artistic, they are camouflaged as sculptures, but a human decision restores their primary, lethal function. Humankind is endangered by the work of art.

With ‘Robogun’ Meste takes a more conceptual approach. This remote-controlled video terrestrial robot makes the human invisible. The artist is no longer at the centre of action. He directs it from his control screen and dehumanises it. The result is an awareness of violence without its dirty, embarrassing materiality.

Philippe Meste is also an artist of expulsion. Whether he ejaculates on icy beauties to turn them into amazing and upsetting ‘watercolours’ (‘Aquarelles’) or projects ammunition from his armed sculptures, he voids his own body violently, be it directly or through an extension.

His approach to sex is provocative. Indeed, it could also be defined as reflexive and reactive. Lewdness is in the eye of the beholder, pleasure in the eye of the artist. Meste’s ‘Aquarelles’ (‘Watercolours’) are proof of his admiration for beauty and the inaccessible. In these works, artfully shaped semen stains soil (or exalt?) top models posing for prestigious brands. His ‘Women in Love’ reveal an aspect of desired but reproved pleasure, that of skin flicks. The porn stars step into models’ shoes and the message slides towards the social, i.e., these women share men’s stereotyped visions of them. With his ‘Sexe Moderne 2’ (Modern Sex 2), Meste introduces submission and violence into sex. Pornography and art connect. This sculpture, which is made for use, is activated by the body of the woman who slips into it to be reduced to erogenous zones offered up unabashedly. It’s the titillation and frustration of making love to a fantasy that doesn’t pine for you.

Everything in Meste’s work is aesthetic. This is a sine qua non of there being some artistic value in these so violent, so unhealthy, and oh how human actions and objects !

ANIMAL: The Other Side of Evolution (fiberglass, polyester resin) Winner of MA Design Award, University of Arts London, 2012 and the Accessories Collection of the Year at ITS (International Talent Support) 2012 in Trieste, Italy.

The goal was to fabricate a collection of 8 pieces of personal adornment that would not be specifically categorised as jewellery or accessories. The idea was to step out of the traditional jewellery/accessories context in order to develop a ‘new breed’ of precious objects that can be exhibited both separately on their own and fully attached to the human body. All of the objects were handcrafted creating multi-part master molds, using gelcoat, fiberglass, resin and silicone rubber.
The project is grounded in a unique visual interpretation of animal anatomy, building upon existing skeleton structures to create a series of sculptural pieces that appear as natural properties of the human body, suggesting strength, power and sensuality. Concepts of mutation and evolution are explored in order to develop a contemporary cross-image of human and animal, an atemporal, supreme creature, beyond past and future. . The pieces perform a double function: they exist as fashion objects attached to the wearer, as well as separate art works, exhibited in gallery spaces. Because of this dual quality they can be considered fashion artefacts in the true sense: objects of desire, rather than just mere adornments.

A material which is as light and as delicate as a thread, takes on a new dimension in the hands of the Mexico born, Texas based artist Gabriel Dawe.

His ‘PAIN’ and ‘Intolerance’ series touch upon the issue of pain and how unavoidable it is in our lives. Dawe uses elements made out of deconstructed clothing and invites the viewer to relate and accept pain as a force that human beings endure, coming out stronger at the other end of the experience. The fact that he uses familiar, everyday pieces from clothing such as sleeves and collars, as well as pants and boots, further invites the viewer to relate with the feeling of pain and its effect.

The installation titled “Simulated Tortures” comprises photographs of my body in the embryonic position and several common office tools – a stapler, a pair of scissors, a punch, etc. Photo series are all self-portraits, photographed by myself: a one-man process. My works constitute elemental transfers – modifying the body as object – combining it with other stylistic elements (thread, pins etc.) to create a three-dimensional object with a large visual impact. The work you see therefore is not a photo portrait, but an installation with form and texture.''

Luciano Podcaminsky was born in Buenos Aires on June 7th, 1970.
He studied Media at Universidad de Buenos Aires, and moved on to study film at FUC. He also took courses on Film direction with Pino Solanas and Rodolfo Hermida, and studied copyrighting at the Argentine Advertising Association.
He started in advertising working as a copywriter for several advertising agencies, and moved to working in top production companies in Buenos Aires as an Assistant Director. Approximately in 1995 he started directing.
He has received awards from the best well know festivals in the world: Cannes, El Sol de San Sebastian, One Show, D&AD de Londres, Clio, FIAP, Martin Fierro, Ojo de Iberoamerica, Diente.
In 2005 he was part of the Saatchi &Saatchi New Director's Showcase, in Cannes.
In 2006, Luciano was ranked by the Gunn Report as 4th in the list of most award-winning directors of the world, and in 2009 appears number 15th at The Gunn Report Ten Years Consolidated Tables 1999-2008
His first feature film, The Third Pint, was selected for the 2007 Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (Bafici) and also was selected at the 2008 Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) as one of the Best of the Fest Films.
His experience as a jury includes the following festivals: Clio 2008 y London Festival in 2009 y 2010 and Ojo de Iberoamérica 2009.
In April 2011, his art work with Agustin Carbonere, CCTV CORNER was exhibited at Centro Cultural coreano in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in a tribute to Name June Paik.
In June 2012, at centro Cultural Recoleta Buenos Aires; Argentina, he opened his personal art exhibition, with his Works: Sundead, Just Married, Room available, Private dinner and Daily Pill.
Currently he is represented by Landia in Latin America and Spain, Distrito Films in Mexico and Gangfilms in France.

Christian Ernest Marclay (born 11 January 1955) is a Swiss and American visual artist and composer.Marclay's work explores connections between sound, noise, photography, video, and film. A pioneer of using gramophone records and turntables as musical instruments to create sound collages, Marclay is, in the words of critic Thom Jurek, perhaps the "unwitting inventor of turntablism." His own use of turntables and records, beginning in the late 1970s, was developed independently of but roughly parallel to hip hop's use of the instrument.

I will never change

For Benga's new video for I Will Never Change, 960 separate pieces of vinyl were carefully measured, cut, and then finally animated. The result is a real-life waveform. Directed by Us, which consists of Christopher Barrett and Luke Taylor, the first task for the pair was calculating exactly how many records per second would be needed.

"To animate the wave form, we built it and then carefully removed each individual record. This had to be done very gently as any shift in the position of the sculpture would result in the failure of the animation and as we had to literally destroy each piece of vinyl to get it off, there was only one chance to get it right. Once the sculpture was finally built, the animation process took about 30 hours.” There are some nice behind-the-scenes photos below as well, taken by Ben Jacobs.

The process of readying the vinyl for filming took seven full working days, which including measuring and cutting each individual piece, as well as hand labelling, numbering and then finally polishing.

Lorenzo Nanni is a textile artist living and working in Paris. His handmade fiber sculptures are inspired by organic matter and living forms. He reinterprets images of botany and anatomy through traditional embroidery and haute couture techniques, using natural materials and minerals. His work combines traditional knowledge with high quality contemporary art, design, and a modern, personal universe. Creatures and hybrid plants, skins, organs, landscapes, and symbols are transformed into a visceral and fantastic universe. "Frontera" reflects on the dramatic scale of drug trafficking in Mexican society. The artist has used basic but very striking elements to create the works in "Frontera", and despite their minimalist style, they reveal great emotional depth and tragedy. The works go beyond the specific context that gave rise to them, with a universal value that explores our mechanisms of denial and the taboos still surrounding death and violence in contemporary society. The Museion exhibition features walls where executions took place, that the artist took down in Mexico and rebuilt in Bolzano—Muro Baleado (Culiacán), 2009, and Muro Ciudad Juárez, 2010—along with the works Plancha, 2010 and Cubo, 2010, a minimalist cube weighing a ton made out of iron from reinforced concrete taken from demolished buildings. The Bolzano exhibition will also be the first opportunity to see the filmed action Camiseta, created specially for "Frontera" and shot in the cities of Juarez, Kassel and Bolzano.

Teresa Margolles (Culican, Mexico 1963), is one of the founders of the group SEMEFO (Servicio Médico Forense/Forensic Medicine Service). In 2009 she represented Mexico at the Venice Biennale, while solo shows include Los Herederos, Peter Kilchmann, Zurich (2009), and En Lugar de los Hechos – Anstelle der Tatsachen, Kunsthalle Krems (2008). She has taken part in Manifesta7, Bolzano (2008), the Liverpool Biennale (2006), the Prague Biennale (2005 and 2003), and the Gwangju Biennale (2004).

Boris Tellegen aka Deltainc was born in 1968, in the Netherlands.
He became one of the pioneers of the European graffiti movement, in 1984, when he made his tag DELTA for the first time. His work shows the hallmark of his time at the Faculty of Industrial Design at the Technical University Delft, from where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Design Engineering in 1994.
The first DELTA tag appeared on the streets in 1984: through the years this Netherlands based artist has developed a complex and unique style that resembles isometric plans and plays with ideas of architecture and high tech futuristic vehicles. Boris introduced an alien and idiosyncratic aesthetic into graffiti art that escapes the common logo-like word IDs. He influenced writers all over the world for decades with his 3D letter style.

Boris Tellegen's fine art paintings and sculptures have recently been exhibitied in Singapore / Malaysia, London and Italy.

An internationally acclaimed contemporary artist, he skilfully experiments with a variety of mediums in order to create his amazingly intricate paintings, prints, 3D sculptures, video works and installations. His work is reminiscent of the old Utopists and Constructivists and can be seen as portraits of industrial architecture.
