Koe Wetzel is back, and he’s ready to tear up the airwaves all over again.

Following a historic, record-shattering radio run in 2025 where his Double-Platinum hit “High Road” featuring Jessie Murph spent five consecutive weeks at No. 1 and locked it down as the most-played song at Country Radio for the entire year, the Texas-born firebrand is charging right back into the spotlight.

This week, Koe officially dropped “Hurts Like You,” the jagged, high-octane lead single from his highly anticipated sixth studio album, The Night Champion, dropping June 12 via Columbia Records.

A Toxic Romance Wrapped in Post-Grunge Grit

Written by Wetzel alongside heavy-hitters Ashley Gorley, Steph Jones, Carrie K, and producer Gabe Simon, “Hurts Like You” offers the signature raw intensity Koe’s diehard fans crave, but with a vulnerable twist. It’s an absolute sonic gut-punch about surrendering to the desires that cut you wide open.

Just look at these lyrics:

I’ll walk through fire If it burns like you Hold me like a knife Baby cut me right in two Drag me through the dirt like you always do I can take the pain if it hurts like you

“‘Hurts Like You’ was one of the first songs that we wrote for the record,” Koe says of the track. “It’s kind of about a toxic relationship; whenever you get into those situations, you know it’s not good for you, but there’s just something about it that keeps bringing you back. It’s hard to get away from. I feel like a lot of people go through that, so I hope people can relate to the way that we felt about it.”

Critics are already losing their minds over the genre-blending masterpiece. VICE heavily praised the song’s crossover appeal, calling it “an alt-rock revival… the Texas-born rocker blends Country & Western with post-grunge in a way that scratches so many itches. ‘Hurts Like You’ has grit, but never sacrifices melody. It’s relentlessly catchy, but it still has balls.”

Welcome to The Night Champion Era

Arriving on June 12, The Night Champion serves as the official continuation of his globally acclaimed record 9 Lives. The new album captures the wild aftermath of Koe’s explosive rise, balancing his trademark force and ragged details with the hard-earned perspective that only comes from surviving the chaos.

“Really, it’s everything that’s happened – because you don’t go from kids playing for beer to headlining Red Rocks, arenas all over the country, partying and trying to make sense of it all and not shift,” Koe reflects. “My head space is clearer now. I can look back, see how it fits together. It doesn’t make sense, exactly, but it all happened. That search for what it all means keeps bringing me back.”

Whether you’ve been screaming the words since his Texas indie breakout Noise Complaint, or you just hopped on the bandwagon during last year’s radio takeover, this album is designed to bring every era of the Wetzel fanbase together under one roof.

“I’m not torn between the worlds,” Koe notes. “This is where all the fans meet. No matter when they got here, this is that moment.”

The Night Champion World Tour Is Coming For You

Fresh off a massive run in Australia, Pollstar’s favorite “firebrand live sensation” is bringing his notorious live show to arenas and amphitheaters across the U.S. and Canada all summer and fall.

Koe isn’t coming alone, either. He’s bringing an absolutely stacked, rotating lineup of support that includes Shane Smith & The Saints, Ole 60, Wyatt Flores, Corey Kent, Wade Bowen, Bayker Blankenship, Kolby Cooper, and Logan Jahnke.

Reality television singing competitions have a complicated reputation. Purists often argue that true artistry is forged in smoky bars and on endless highway tours, not on brightly lit soundstages in Hollywood. Yet, for over a decade, NBC’s hit show The Voice has quietly acted as one of the most powerful star-making machines in modern country music.

With the recent blockbuster announcement that Riley Green is officially stepping into the big red chair as a coach for the upcoming milestone Season 30, the show’s deeply rooted relationship with country music is once again taking center stage. Alongside heavyweights Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and Queen Latifah, Green’s addition proves that the genre remains the undeniable lifeblood of the series.

The Coaches: From Royalty to the New Guard

You cannot talk about the history of country music on The Voice without starting with Blake Shelton. For 23 seasons, Shelton wasn’t just a coach; he was the face of the franchise. His sharp humor and genuine passion for the genre helped him recruit top-tier country talent, leading to nine historic victories and proving to Nashville that prime-time television viewers had a massive appetite for country music.

When Shelton finally hung up his cowboy boots, the show didn’t miss a beat, immediately bringing in country royalty with Reba McEntire. Reba added an aura of prestige and decades of industry wisdom to the panel, famously steering Team Reba to victory.

Now, the torch is being passed to Riley Green for Season 30. The “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” singer brings a fresh, modern perspective to the panel. Representing the current wave of gritty, traditional-leaning country that dominates streaming charts, Green is already bringing a playful competitive energy to the show. Ahead of the premiere, fellow coach Kelly Clarkson publicly welcomed him by professing her fandom for his music, before quickly warning him that she fully intends to “whoop that ass” in the competition. It’s exactly this kind of cross-genre banter that country fans love to watch.

The Contestants: Success Beyond the Trophy

While winning The Voice is the ultimate goal on television, the real-world country music industry has proven that the exposure from the show is often worth more than the actual trophy.

Consider the show’s most successful alum: Morgan Wallen. Back in Season 6, Wallen was a relative unknown who competed on both Team Usher and Team Adam before being eliminated in the playoff rounds. Despite not even making it to the finals, the prime-time exposure ignited his career. Today, Wallen is a stadium-packing, record-breaking megastar, serving as the ultimate proof that an early exit on The Voice can still lead to the top of the charts.

On the flip side, the show has produced winners who successfully parlayed their victories into sustained country careers. Danielle Bradbery took home the crown in Season 4 at just 16 years old under Blake Shelton’s wing. She managed the difficult transition from teenage reality star to a respected, streaming-heavy country artist with hits like “The Heart of Dixie” and “Sway.”

Similarly, Cassadee Pope used her Season 3 victory to pivot from pop-punk to country, eventually earning a number-one country hit and a Grammy nomination for her duet with Chris Young, “Think of You.” More recently, traditionalists like Bryce Leatherwood have used their time on the show to keep classic, baritone country music alive in the mainstream media.

The Ultimate Editorial Takeaway

As The Voice gears up for Season 30, its impact on the Nashville machine is undeniable. The series has democratized how country stars are found, shifting the power from behind-the-scenes record executives to the fans voting at home.

Whether an artist walks away with the grand prize or gets knocked out in the battle rounds, the platform offers a masterclass in artist development. With Riley Green poised to champion the next generation of hopefuls this fall, the pipeline from the big red chairs to the Country Radio charts shows no signs of slowing down.

In the world of country music, trends come and go like summer storms. We’ve seen the rise and fall of the urban cowboy era, the pop-country explosion, the bro-country wave, and the current genre-bending streaming era. But through forty-plus years of musical evolution, one undeniable truth remains pinned to the center of the country music universe like a North Star in a Resistol hat: George Strait is the King.

He isn’t just a legend. He isn’t just a hall of famer. At Acountry.com, we are planting our flag in the honky-tonk dirt and saying it out loud: George Strait is our absolute #1 country artist of all time. Let’s take a deep dive into exactly why King George wears the crown, permanently.

The Untouchable Math of the King

You can argue about subjective tastes all day long, but you cannot argue with the numbers. George Strait’s statistical dominance isn’t just impressive; it’s practically mythical.

60 Number-One Hits: George has racked up 60 number-one singles across all charts. That is more #1 songs than any other artist in any genre of music. Ever.

The Platinum Standard: With 33 platinum or multi-platinum albums, he holds the RIAA record for the most certified platinum albums by any country artist. Across all genres, he sits comfortably in third place behind only The Beatles and Elvis Presley.

Decades of Dominance: He is the only artist in history to notch a Top 10 hit every single year for over three consecutive decades.

The Record Breaker: Just when people thought he was slowing down, he played a single show at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, drawing an astounding 110,905 fans. It shattered the record for the largest ticketed concert for a single act in U.S. history.

He Saved Traditional Country Music (Twice)

When George burst onto the scene in 1981 with Strait Country and his debut single “Unwound,” Nashville was in the middle of a massive identity crisis. The smooth, pop-heavy “Nashville Sound” and the slick Urban Cowboy craze had watered down the genre’s roots.

George didn’t need gimmicks, pyrotechnics, or crossover pop production. He showed up with a fiddle, a pedal steel guitar, a crisp western shirt, and an unshakeable reverence for western swing and honky-tonk. Alongside heroes like John Anderson and Ricky Skaggs, George pioneered the neotraditional movement, steering the genre back home to its roots.

Decades later, as country music shifted again, George remained the anchor. When he sings, you can smell the sawdust on the floor and the diesel in the air. He proved that standing your ground and staying true to who you are never goes out of style.

The Ultimate Master of Song Selection

While George has written more incredible tracks than critics give him credit for (earning him a well-deserved induction into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame), his greatest superpower has always been his ear for a great song.

George became the ultimate vessel for Nashville’s and Texas’s greatest tunesmiths. When Dean Dillon, Whitey Shafer, or Aaron Barker wrote a masterpiece, they knew George was the only man who could deliver it with the perfect balance of Texas grit and smooth, Crosby-like crooning.

Think about the sheer emotional spectrum of his catalog. He can break your heart into pieces with a vocal performance like “Amarillo by Morning” or “The Chair,” turn around and make you smile with the sly wit of “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” and then completely heal your soul with “I Cross My Heart” or “I Saw God Today.” He doesn’t just sing songs; he narrates the lives of everyday hardworking folks.

He Did It All with Pure Class

In an industry fueled by loud egos and tabloid drama, George Strait has spent over 40 years modeling pure, unadulterated class. He eloped with his high school sweetheart, Norma, in 1971 and has been married for over 50 years. He has quietly weathered unimaginable personal tragedy, used his platform to raise millions for children’s charities and disaster relief, and treated his Ace in the Hole Band like family.

He never changed his look to fit a trend. He never shouted to get attention. He just stood behind a microphone, looked out into the crowd, tipped his hat, and let the music do the talking.

“Some might say the beauty of George Strait is you know what you’re going to get… But the real beauty of George Strait is his innate ability to collide comfortable & worn with fresh & exciting every time he straps on his guitar.”

Long Live the King

From his recent induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame and receiving the prestigious Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, to being honored at the Kennedy Center, the world is continually trying to find new ways to say “thank you” to George Strait.

But for us at Acountry.com, the best way to honor him is simple: turn the volume up, pour something cold, and let that steel guitar ride.

There will never be another one like him. There will never be a catalog as deep, a cowboy as cool, or a legacy as pure. George Strait isn’t just the King of Country Music – he is our absolute, undisputed, forever #1 of all time.

Cody Johnson Takes Top Honors

The biggest story of the night belonged to Cody Johnson, who took home the evening’s most coveted prize: Entertainer of the Year. It marks Johnson’s very first time winning the top honor. In an emotional acceptance speech, he reflected on his long journey in the industry, recalling childhood memories of singing in his bunk bed and dreaming of one day standing on that very stage. In a classy move, he dedicated the milestone win to his fellow nominee, Luke Combs.

Johnson didn’t just walk away with the final trophy of the night; he also claimed the title of Male Artist of the Year. Proving why he deserved both honors, he later delivered a powerful, show-stopping performance of his cover of “Travelin’ Soldier.”

A Historic, Record-Breaking Night for Ella Langley

While Cody Johnson took the top title, Ella Langley was undeniably the most decorated artist of the evening, sweeping a staggering seven awards. Langley kicked off the main broadcast with a win for Song of the Year for her smash hit “Choosin’ Texas.” She quickly returned to the stage to accept Single of the Year for the same track, achieving a rare feat by taking home trophies as both the performing artist and a producer on the record. This monumental achievement marks the first time an artist has won back-to-back ACM Single of the Year honors since Miranda Lambert did it over a decade ago.

Later in the evening, Langley added Artist-Songwriter of the Year to her haul and tearfully accepted the trophy for Female Artist of the Year. During her speech, she praised the sisterhood of country music, giving a special shoutout to fellow nominees Lainey Wilson, Miranda Lambert, and Kelsea Ballerini.

First-Time Wins and Iconic Streaks

The album categories brought some incredible firsts. Parker McCollum took home his very first Album of the Year trophy for his self-titled record. Presented by Keith Urban, McCollum used his time at the microphone to give a sweet shoutout to his pregnant wife, Hallie Ray Light, joking that the academy should give her a trophy with her own name on it.

In the group categories, The Red Clay Strays completed an incredible two-year arc, graduating from last year’s New Group of the Year win to claim the main Group of the Year title.

Meanwhile, the legendary Brooks & Dunn proved that some things never change. The iconic duo took home Duo of the Year for the 18th time, extending their lifetime ACM win total to an unmatched 32 awards.

Collaboration and Fresh Faces

The award for Music Event of the Year went to Riley Green and Ella Langley for their chart-topping duet, “Don’t Mind If I Do.” The victory counted toward Langley’s massive night and secured back-to-back wins in the category for both artists.

The future of the genre also looked incredibly bright as the academy celebrated its newest rising stars. Tucker Wetmore was crowned New Male Artist of the Year and brought his mother onto the stage alongside Shania Twain before performing his hit “Brunette.” On the female side, Avery Anna took home New Female Artist of the Year, celebrating the win with an energetic medley of “Bang Bang” and “Blood Runs Thicker.”

Behind the scenes, Jessie Jo Dillon made history of her own, capturing her third consecutive Songwriter of the Year honor.

Show-Stopping Performances

Beyond the trophies, the night was defined by 17 electric performances. Kane Brown turned heads with his brand-new country-pop single “Woman,” while Riley Green rocked the crowd with “Change My Mind.” Fans were also treated to exceptional sets from Zach Top, Lainey Wilson, and Miranda Lambert, making the 61st ACM Awards an unforgettable celebration of where country music has been—and exactly where it is heading.

he countdown to Nashville’s biggest desert party is officially on. On Sunday, May 17, 2026, the 61st Academy of Country Music Awards will take over the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. While the trophies won’t be handed out for another ten days, the storylines are already written, the early winners have been crowned, and the “Emo Cowgirl” is officially leading the charge.

If you’re planning your watch party for the Prime Video broadcast, here is the deep-dive preview of what to expect from this year’s seismic shift in country music.

The Return of the Queen: Shania Twain Hosts

For the first time ever, the legendary Shania Twain is stepping into the hosting role, taking the baton from Reba McEntire. Her presence is a deliberate signal from the Academy: this year is about glamour, global reach, and the “crossover” energy that Shania pioneered. Expect high-fashion, Vegas-level spectacle, and a hosting style that celebrates just how massive the genre has become in 2026.

The “Moroney” Era: Leading the Pack

If you had any doubt that Megan Moroney is the new face of country music, look at the ballot. Megan leads all artists this year with 9 nominations, including her first-ever nod for the night’s biggest prize: Entertainer of the Year.

She isn’t alone in the “Year of the Woman” narrative. Miranda Lambert (the most-decorated artist in ACM history) follows closely with 8 nominations, while Ella Langley and Lainey Wilson have 7 apiece. This year’s nominations prove that the center of gravity in Nashville has shifted toward powerful, female-driven storytelling.

Meet Your Early Winners: Avery Anna & Tucker Wetmore

You don’t have to wait until May 17th to know some of the big winners. In keeping with tradition, the Academy has already surprised two of the genre’s fastest-rising stars:

New Female Artist of the Year: Avery Anna. The “bathtub acoustics” star officially joined the ranks of past winners like Megan Moroney and Lainey Wilson after being surprised with the news following her performance at the Lone Star Smokeout.

New Male Artist of the Year: Tucker Wetmore. After a breakout year on the charts, Wetmore secured the win in a crowded field of newcomers, cementing his place as a leader of the new “backroad grit” sound.

The Battle for the Soul of Country: Traditional vs. Modern

The Album of the Year category is shaping up to be the most debated of the night. It features a fascinating clash of styles:

The Traditionalist: Zach Top’s Ain’t In It For My Health is the standard-bearer for the 90s country resurgence.

The Powerhouse: Morgan Wallen’s I’m The Problem represents the genre’s massive commercial dominance.

The Storytellers: Riley Green’s Don’t Mind If I Do and Carter Faith’s Cherry Valley offer a blend of muscle and cinematic Americana.

How to Watch

The 61st ACM Awards will stream live on Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel on Twitch on Sunday, May 17 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.

With a lineup that includes world-premiere performances from Lainey Wilson, Kacey Musgraves, and Miranda Lambert, this year’s show is less of a standard awards ceremony and more of a global concert event.

Who are you rooting for to take home Entertainer of the Year? Is it finally Megan Moroney’s time, or will Lainey Wilson keep her crown?

The outlaw himself, Willie Nelson, celebrates his 93rd birthday this week (April 29). True to form, Willie isn’t slowing down. He continues to be a cultural pillar and an inspiration for the “outlaw” spirit in modern country. Fans across social media are toasted the icon, who uniquely celebrates his birthday on both the 29th and 30th due to a discrepancy in his birth records.

Ella Langley & Morgan Wallen Drop “I Can’t Love You Anymore”

Following a surprise onstage debut that sent fans into a frenzy, Ella Langley and Morgan Wallen have officially released their duet, “I Can’t Love You Anymore.“ The track is a raw, conversational look at a relationship at its breaking point.
Three-time GRAMMY winner and the most-awarded artist in ACM history, Miranda Lambert, has officially signed with MCA Nashville. This move marks a significant shift for the country icon, aligning her next creative era with a label renowned for championing legendary storytellers.

Back to the Roots

For Lambert, this move isn’t just about business, it’s about the community. By choosing a Nashville-based powerhouse like MCA, she is doubling down on the creative roots that have defined her career from the beginning.

“Throughout my life and career, I have found that the common thread in every chapter is finding the right people—songwriters, musicians, collaborators, and team members—to match the moment,” says Lambert. “I am honored to join a roster and a team with such a rich history of championing artistry.”

A Generational Impact

MCA President & CEO Mike Harris didn’t hold back his excitement about bringing the superstar into the fold. “Miranda is a generational artist whose influence and artistry continue to shape modern music,” Harris noted. “We look forward to building something truly special together.”

The signing comes at a high-velocity moment for Lambert:

ACM Dominance: She heads into this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards with eight nominations, including nods for artist, songwriter, and producer.

Vegas Success: She recently wrapped her twice-extended Velvet Rodeo residency.

Business Growth: Despite the new solo deal, Miranda remains the powerhouse Founder of Big Loud Texas, continuing her work in artist development and publishing.

What’s Next for Fans?

While details on a specific album title or release date remain under wraps, the partnership with MCA is a clear signal that new music is on the horizon. With a team focused on “global reach and impactful storytelling,” fans can expect Miranda to continue pushing boundaries while staying true to the honest, gritty songwriting that made her a household name.

With seven No. 1 albums already under her belt, the industry is watching closely to see how this “next chapter” sounds. One thing is certain: Miranda Lambert isn’t just a part of country music history, she’s still writing it.

If there were any lingering doubts about Morgan Wallen’s status as a global cultural phenomenon, the 2026 American Music Awards (AMAs) just settled the debate. Wallen has secured seven nominations, a feat that places him in the rare air of artists who transcend genre boundaries.

Most notably, Wallen is a top contender for the prestigious Artist of the Year category. He finds himself in a heavyweight battle against global icons like Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga. This crossover recognition highlights how country music (led by Wallen’s massive streaming numbers) has become a dominant force in the general pop charts.

The timing of this awards-season surge couldn’t be better. This week, Wallen officially kicks off the North American leg of his “Still the Problem” 2026 Tour. The tour, which began with a series of sold-out shows overseas, is now hitting U.S. stadiums starting April 10. Industry experts are already predicting this will be the highest-grossing country tour of the year, with ticket demand on the secondary market reaching unprecedented levels.

Fans attending the opening nights can expect more than just the hits. Rumors from rehearsals suggest Wallen is planning to debut at least three unreleased tracks from his rumored upcoming project, giving his “Wallen-ites” an exclusive first listen to the next chapter of his career. From the top of the charts to the biggest stadiums in the country, Morgan Wallen is proving that he isn’t just a part of the country music conversation. He is the conversation.

The Academy of Country Music has officially pulled back the curtain on the nominees for the 61st ACM Awards, and the message echoing through the halls of Nashville is loud and clear: the women of country music aren’t just participating—they are leading the charge.

Leading the pack with a staggering nine nominations is the “Emo Cowgirl” herself, Megan Moroney. In what is being described as a career-defining moment, Moroney has landed her first-ever nod for the night’s biggest prize: Entertainer of the Year. It is a testament to her meteoric rise over the last 24 months, proving that her unique blend of vulnerable songwriting and polished Nashville production has resonated far beyond a niche audience.

But Moroney isn’t alone in this historic surge. The nominations list reads like a “Who’s Who” of female powerhouses. Lainey Wilson continues her “Bell Bottom Country” dominance with multiple nods, while Miranda Lambert adds to her record-breaking career total. Perhaps most exciting is the inclusion of newcomer Ella Langley, whose breakout year has earned her a seat at the table with the genre’s titans.

On the men’s side, the competition remains fierce and rooted in tradition. Chris Stapleton continues his streak of excellence with multiple nods for Male Artist and Album of the Year. Meanwhile, the “Neo-Traditionalist” movement is well-represented by Zach Top, who has become the frontrunner for New Male Artist by bringing a 90s-country flair back to the mainstream.

The awards are set to air live from Frisco, Texas, on May 17, 2026. With a lineup that balances global superstars with gritty, traditional talent, the 61st ACMs are shaping up to be a pivotal night that defines the direction of the genre for the rest of the decade.
