Happy New Year! This past month has been a whirlwind of activity. It started with the Shalom pastor’s training workshop, where Pastor Sopheak and I instructed several church leaders in the use of the Design for Discipleship books by the Navigators. I also taught two sessions on how to study the Bible—particulary on the relationship between exegesis and exposition. It was really the first time that I have had the opportunity to pass on some of the teaching I received in seminary to pastors here. I cannot fully express the joy I experienced as I taught what has been entrusted to me to other faithful men and to see them encouraged and excited to learn more from God’s Word.

We just want to be servants like Simeon, living by the Word and waiting for our Master. Pretty simple wish for Christmas! It doesn’t seem possible that another year has come and gone, but we trust that you have seen God’s hand in your life as individuals and as families. We want to wish you a blessed Advent Season and pray that the Christ of Christmas would be at the center of your celebration! While this has been a busy year for our family, it has been a blessing. We enjoy keeping up with friends and family all over the world, and wanted to briefly share a little of what we’ve been up to over the past twelve months...

Cambodian Harvest December 2011

What is Christmas all about? In Cambodia, very few know the true meaning of Christmas, but many are interested. This gives us a unique opportunity for the Gospel because we know what Christmas is about! The Shalom Churches (our ministry partners) have a Christmas outreach every year, targeting non-believers who are interested in hearing more about the meaning of Christmas.

We will be passing out invitations to the Christmas Outreach in the coming weeks, and we wanted to ask all of you to be praying that the Lord would work in the hearts of those who receive them, that they would not only attend, but also come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Cambodian Harvest November 2011

We’ve arrived in Cambodia safe and sound, praise the Lord! The flight was uneventful (apart from a brief moment when I thought I had lost our passports), and the kids did great. We’ve been blessed to have Christiana’s mom here to help out during our transition back. Our first week flew by as we unpacked, reorganized, made some needed repairs in and around the house, as well as dealt with our car breaking down a few times. Thankfully our house did not flood, even though much of Cambodia is still suffering from the heavy rains this season. We are excited to be back, ministering to the people here, and we are looking forward to what God has in store!
Four of our current translation projects are almost complete: the second edition of Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die, True Discipleship, Design for Descipleship, and Learning About Jesus children’s book. Lord willing, these will all be going to print in the next few months and reaching the hands of many Cambodians. Please join with us in praying for fruit from these labors as well as additional funding to print each book.
Please continue to pray for a smooth transition for our family and for some ministry planning meetings coming up with Shalom Church. We want to use the gifts God has given us to serve the local Body and spread the Word of Christ to the best of our ability. We need your prayers that God would give us wisdom and insight as we make decisions.
We miss you all, and are so thankful for the support you give, both in prayer and monetarily. Thank you.

Update from the Becks in Cambodia

Hello from Phnom Penh! Rainy season has brought TONS of water to SEA this year! If you follow world news you know that flooding has affected the entire region, including Cambodia. To date almost 100K people have been displaced from their homes and over 200 have lost their lives here in our country alone. The capitol has been spared extensive damage, though we did have water ‘lapping’ at our doorstep a few times! Keep praying, and thank you for allowing us to share some of our praises and requests with you.

Prayer/Praises:

Pray with CJ – he has Dengue Fever! It is NOT a lot of fun but he is being a trooper.
Great to welcome the Wells back to Cambodia!
Shalom is actively ministering to people who have been affected by the flooding (see attached pictures); you can participate in relief efforts here
We are in the midst of a 4 part series on The Great Commission at Shalom Phnom Penh Tmei; pray specifically that God would raise up Cambodians with a heart for the Nations!
Jodi continues to enjoy her 4th grade class at Logos! You can pray that God would raise up workers to fill the staff openings for next year…yes it is time for recruiting already!
Grace and wisdom for BJ and Andrea as they shepherd their family and press ahead in ministry, specifically for Boaz and Judah as they continue to grow
Kit and Avery Putrakul are planning on being back in country by the first of the year; continue to pray for the ongoing work of BTCP here in Cambodia
Continue to pray for the ministry of Asian Hope, specifically for Andrew and Beth Steeples as they minister together!

Our time in the States is coming to a close—we return to Cambodia October 22nd. We are simultaneously excited to go, but sad to leave. We are now approaching the tail end of our time here in the States, and are expecting to meet our little boy any day! Thanks so much for your many prayers on our behalf! Please continue to pray for a smooth delivery for Christiana and the new little one.

The Great Commission lived out by the Apostles, as seen in the Book of Acts, points to a philosophy of ministry that focused on evangelism and discipleship but always connected to the local Church. Cambodian Harvest June-July 2011

We’ve been in the States for over a month now, and it’s been a whirlwind! We’ve had a great time with friends and family in LA and in the Bay Area, and have also been enjoying sweet fellowship with our home church, West Hills Community Church. Bethany, Christiana’s sister, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on July 19th, and it was such a blessing to be here for that special moment! We are up next, with September 5th just around the corner for the birth of our baby boy!

Thanks to all of you who have made this time so significant. We are so grateful for the community of believers and the support we have here in the States – you make our ministry in Cambodia possible! We are also thankful for our family who are so graciously taking care of our housing needs while we are here – thank you!
