Prof Will Zimmerman contributor to our first RAE Ingenious Event on Water

We are proud to announce that Professor Will Zimmerman, CEng, FIChemE, of Biochemical Dynamical Systems at The University of Sheffield has kindly agreed to contribute to our series of events on sustainable engineering for our Royal Academy of Engineering Ingenious Grants award.

In the first of our series of 4 events for the Royal Academy of Engineering Ingenious Grants award, Will is going to talk about the value of micro-bubbles as applied to food security and development of the National Water Grid.

Design 101 are giving us a makeover!

It’s all go here at Action for Involvement!

And we are going places… we’re extremely proud to announce, with lots of help and encouragement from ‘new kids on the block’, the guys from design101 (trading just under 2 year’s now at the Blackburn Business Centre on Blackburn Road in Rotherham) have been at their very best, designing and facilitating cutting edge graphics and web mastery for us here at Action for Involvement – adding to their rosta of blue chip accounts.

Design 101 are giving us a princely makeover after our successful bid to Royal Academy of Engineering Ingenious Grant of £30,000. With project partners, New Economics Foundation, British Science Association and The Great Debate, we’ll help graduate engineers develop public engagement skills.

In addition to fee-paying work for our mailing list, design101 have very generously revamped our logo and website so we become brand ambassadors of the new look, and talk about being proud and delighted… you’ll soon see the results for yourself…

Nick Wilks, design101’s Technical Director said ‘We’re very passionate about Corporate Social Responsibility and giving back to society.’ Nick added that they’d built upon pre-existing work which meant they could work faster to concentrate on the overall look and feel without any additional coding costs to us, the client. That’s great news, particularly when these days every penny counts!

You can tell design101 is a highly accomplished, talented team who’ve been through the experience mill! They’ve delivered a result beyond our wildest dreams… and we can’t thank them enough.

Winning £30,000 Royal Academy of Engineering bid

Delighted to announce that Action for Involvement with the New Economics Foundation (nef), The Great Debate in Newcastle and British Science Association in London have succeeded in drawing down a £30,000 grant from the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Ingenious Grants Fund. Our project will use NEF’s Crowd Wise technique to support graduate engineers to enhance their public engagement skills with four events over the next 12 months or so. Steering group members include Sheffield City Council, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield Renewables and The University of Sheffield. More details to follow.

Successful partnership with Sheffield City Council

Over 90 people attended our Transport event in partnership with Sheffield City Council. We had great feedback and requests for similar events. Action for Involvement has become an approved Sheffield City Council supplier.

Geovation funding challenge deadline extended

Enter the GeoVation Challenge ‘How can we improve transport in Britain?’ for a chance to win a slice of £150 000 in innovation funding from Ideas in Transit. Plus up to £10 000 for the best use of OS OpenData. Of this, £3 000 will solely be available to students or researchers in higher or further education.

Due to the significant increase in funding we have extended the closing date and the GeoVation Challenge now runs from 28 September 2010– 11 February 2011 (12:00 noon).
