HOW DOES THIS CONNECT TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR 2012 OR 2015?

“So now you are clear what you want to achieve for 2011″, said my coach.
“Absolutely, I confirmed. “And thanks to your coaching I also know why these elements and actions are important to me.”
“Well, that is wonderful”, he said, “I am so pleased for you that you feel the concrete priorities and reasons now.”

We both smiled and nodded. “How does this connect to your expectations or 2014 or 2015?” he then said.
I startled, “what?”

“We all need to find a balance to our short and long-term ambitions. So the question is how does this tie in to your long-term ambitions? If these short-term goals do not leverage the long-term expectations you will find your actions empty and meaningless after a short while. You will feel exhausted and lack motivation for your actions you decided to take now. They will feel like an obligation rather than something you really want to do.”

The fun and joy from our daily life comes from the meaning of our actions for what we want to achieve in the future.

I thought, “I don’t have such a clear picture of what I want to achieve and how to get there, is that a problem?”

“No, and we can make up our mind by talking about it, reviewing our future, changing and overthrowing ideas and thinking over. There is no right or wrong it is a question of what is important to you.”

Do I really need goals for 2011?

I DON’T NEED ANY GOALS FOR THIS YEAR!

“It is already clear for me what I have to achieve”, I told my coach. “I have to increase my sales result for my region by 10% and that is a very challenging goal.”

“Wow, that is very impressive”, my coach said, “and how shall you do that?”

“Well, I am not clear in all details yet, but I will break into some new accounts and develop one of my biggest potential clients to buy more. Of course we have to see how the economy holds up during the second half…”

“Why is that important to you?”

“It’s clear, if I don’t do that I won’t reach my goal and I won’t get my bonus.”

My coach said nothing.

Then she said, “at the end of 2011, what is it that you want to look back on and feel proud of the achievement?”

“I feel so stressed”, I said, “I don’t get those things done that I really want to get done. Look! I do my Do-To list every day, but at the end of the day it only gets longer. It just drives me crazy. I take my laptop home in the evenings and start doing the things I wanted to do during the day. I don’t know….” I gave a deep sigh of frustration.
“How long do you think I can keep up with this?” I asked my coach.

How can I be clearer in my decisions?

Right now I am preparing for a business trip to the other side of the world. Not unusual, but I have not been to this country before and there are several thoughts buzzing in my head at the same time:
- I am pleased I can go on a trip and leave things behind
- I am wondering what am I going to wear to look good
- I could buy something cool on site and surprise everyone back home
- I will hardly have time to do any shoping, it will be rushed
- I’d rather stay at home and be near to my family and friends
- I like to travel and experience new adventures and people
- I’d like to spend some more time to prepare my trip
- I am afraid to make a mistake and forget to pack something I need

Do you have so many options that you can’t decide?

A friend of mine is looking for a job. However she is wondering which type of carreer she should persue, this or that, here or there.

Of course there are many things to consider, skills, experience, location, employees references etc.
But what really gives you the motivation to seek one or the other offer?
You cannot decide? There are too many good options?

It seems like your Inner Team is voicing their views, but in an uncoordinated way, argueing for their favorite point and need.

If you are not aware of what your inner team wants and need to get clear on that, you could need a coach.

Why is it that we see through certain things while others we just drop out on?
How can I get my “internal team” to become acountable?
