In the last ten years my wife and I have witnessed many dramatic changes in Estero Island and San Carlos Island. So called progress comes at a price. Some is needed as the constructions of new roads, water system and irrigation, or the beautification of downtown with cobble stones along the walk ways or along 1st street all along to the bay, with french like city lights, palms along the streets and for example a fountain at the very end of 1st Street next to restaurant Nervous Nellie. San Carlos island older cottage on Prescott st. All in all a majority seem to prefer the town as it is now. Some miss the hunky tonk look, the more lay back and funky atmosphere of the 80's or 90's an even the early 2000's. Empty lots and old ranch homes or beach cottages have been replaced by larger modern and at times enormous Mimi mansions. Still I have also seen a tremendous number of old Fort Myers Beach and San Carlos cottages, many over 50 years old renovated and more. Quite a few completely gutted and remodeled and getting a second or third life as the one below build in the 1920's which will be saved and moved to a location yet to be determined. probably owned by the historical society. !920's cottage being moved: Its a cool effort from local developer Orlandini who is footing the bill for the move. We have seen many of his very modern and large homes popping along Estero Blvd or on Palermo Circle and other streets, but its reassuring that he has also restored quite a few older homes and understand that the charm of the island also resides on these older cottages same as in Key West. The only calculations where we have a lower monthly average is $ 849K in April 2017 vs April 2016 which is minus 2.76% and the medium price which is 1.1% less then last year at $450K. Fun brunch at Fort Myers Beach Bayfront Bistro

This week end friends and my wife and I went back Fort Myers Beach Bay Front Bistro. We went there before but this time we wanted to try their brunch and I am glad we did. We went to the second floor which has generous views of the marina and Estero Bay. It has both an outside terrace and very large lounge with an elevated long bar and dozen of round tables facing the high ceiling bay windows. The wives and I had the traditional eggs benedict with shaved ham hollandaise served with small diced seasonal potatoes. Stephen had the Bayfront omelets with mushrooms, diced bacon, ham, onions and more topped with sour cream with breakfast potatoes. My eyes were bigger then my belly and I also had the lobster bisque. Okay so its true I had the bowl. I did share some though! Presentation was sharp and the portions generous. Everything was very good. Well cooked and products smelled fresh and made one salivate. We didn't wait much at all as the restaurant was half full and the service was prompt. We had mimosas, well three of them did as I was the designated driver. All enjoyed them. Real champagne and real orange juice. Each couple paid $47 without tips and we thought it was pretty fair for an upscale restaurant with a strong following. AS the city with the most canals in the USA, it is not a surprise that Cape Coral is looking at ways to lower the traffic of boats waiting to take off on these ramps and improve security and services. In 2015 cape Coral improved 5 ramps where boaters may pay $10/day or $$50/year to park their trailer while they are out in the water.Businesses pay $100/year which i8ncluded nonprofit businesses, boat trips constructions and other services on the water. All may use it as many times as needed per year. Annual decal are available only to Cape Coral residents and owners of Cape Coral businesses.
