Meditation Classes in Burlington, Ontario.

Meditation Classes in Burlington, Ontario.
Many years ago, when I was quite young and still in grade school, I used to spend a lot of time gazing out the tall classroom windows. With my teacher’s voice somewhere in the distant background and my brain in daydream mode, time seemed to fly by.
Although it often got me into trouble with my teachers, daydreaming was one of my favourite things to do. I always came out of a daydream feeling refreshed and happy and more alert than ever.
Over the years, amidst raising children, working on a career, and just general living day to day, I seemed to lose my ability to daydream. My mind was always such a flurry of worries and thoughts that it seemed quieting it down long enough to let it go blank in the middle of the day was one of the skills that fell under the ‘use it or lose it’ category. I, for one, had lost it.
When Clayton and Shanine began to take Meditation Teacher Training, I did some research into meditation and was intrigued to learn that the regular practice of meditation actually alters the brain in a very positive way. The benefits of meditation not only fell within the realm of increased mental health.; they extended much deeper into the scope of increased physical health and disease reduction.
With so many healthful benefits, I decided that once Chrysalis Yoga Studio opened, I would begin to take meditation classes regularly.
Clayton teaches a meditation class at Chrysalis Yoga Studio in Burlington every Wednesday at 5:15.
It was after my second class, feeling refreshed and stress-free, that it occurred to me I hadn’t daydreamed in many years and meditation seemed to feel strangely familiar to my state of mind.
During the subsequent week, when taking a break from a busy day, I would try to daydream. I seemed to have lost the ability and quietly thought to myself that perhaps learning to meditate would bring that ability back to me. I knew that research had shown daydreaming, which enables the brain to enter the Alpha Wave zone, to be very good for enhancing creativity and problem solving skills. Researching a bit further, I learned that light meditation also causes the brain to show Alpha Wave activity. Perhaps I’d hit upon the key to re-teaching myself to daydream!
After my 4th meditation class with Clayton, I felt particularly clear-headed and rested. The myriad of thoughts and worries that often raced around my brain were non-existent and I felt a sense of freedom and lightness. That afternoon, as I sat taking a moment’s rest from the work I had been doing, I turned my gaze and looked at the top branches of a distant tree. A flock of birds had congregated on the most distal tips of the branches. As I sat watching them, I felt a sense of elation as my brain transitioned into the old familiar daydream state; a state of blissfulness, rest and lightness. Coming out of of daydreaming state, I thought of Clayton and that day’s meditation class. I felt a deep sense of gratitude to Clayton. His meditation classes and his talent for teaching meditation were beginning to take effect on my brain waves and, as a new sense of calm overtook me, I began to imagine the possibilities that meditation holds for enhancing all areas of a person’s life.
If you’re wondering about meditation classes in Burlington, drop by to Chrysalis Yoga Studio on Walker’s Line and Palladium (just north of Dundas) at 5:15pm on Wednesday’s for a meditation class with Clayton Smith. You’ll be glad you did.

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Naples, Florida - Winter Home For Our Birds

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Naples, Florida - A Winter Home For Birds From Oakville, Burlington and Other Areas and of Ontario. As we drove down the straight country road heading north out of Naples and deeper and deeper into scrubland, we wondered what kind of hiking trails we were setting ourselves up for now. The surrounding wild lands looked anything but hospitable hiking territory. Soon, after making a few turns off the main road and driving deeper into the cypress and scrub pine forests, we came upon a sign that announced we had reached our destination - Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. My heart quickened a few beats as the excitement of exploring a wilderness park in a foreign location settled in.We were pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful building as we rounded the corner of the parking area. The Blair Audubon Centre, a spacious post and beam structure which is off the grid and environmentally friendly, welcomed us at the entrance to the long boardwalk through the swamp. As we began our hike along the boardwalk, we were entranced by the gentle majesty and peacefulness of the cypress forests and tall pines that graced the edges of the swamp.Beautiful herons, anhingas, hawks, owls and songbirds seemed to be waiting for us at every turn. They sat gracefully on stretched out branches and rested in the afternoon sun. Some were busy wading in the shallow swamp waters as they quietly searched for an evening meal.Epiphytes and orchids clung to tree trunks or rose in the crotches of old tree trunks, adding colour and beauty to the grey bark of the winter trees. We had found paradise; a paradise which has disappeared from more than 90% of the lands in Canada and the USA. 'This is where they come to', I sadly thought to myself. What little paradise is left, our northern birds flock to when winter winds howl and our northern lands shut down for the cold months of December, January and February. On that day, we were so amazed at how unafraid the creatures of the swamp were of us that we decided to go back the next day for the 'Moonlight Swamp Walk'. It turned out to be an enchanting evening with a full moon hanging low in an azure sky. Haunting winter cyrpress trees and a boardwalk that seemed to glow stretched out in front of us. Our guide, a spry little man in the latter years of his life whose love of nature had brought him to volunteer for this beautiful place, was as intriguing and eccentric as the forest creatures and flora he showed us. Each plant and bird and creature had a story; a uniqueness that was all it's own and he seemed to be privy to the mysteries of the universe itself.Of all the places in southern Florida to visit, I recommend a visit to the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary the most. Children will come away enthralled and perhaps, as happened the day we were there, will be able to watch a small racoon forage for food from two feet away or have a Great Blue Heron land 3 feet away and curiously watch them with quick eye and cocked head. In no other wild place, that I have been, do humans and nature interact so closely, both with a deep trust for one another, than at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.Spring seems somehow closer at hand when the cold winter months are broken up with a trip south to visit our birds in their winter home - The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------As one Canadian to another, Naples is an absolutely beautiful town and one well worth considering if you are thinking of buying a winter retreat or an investment property in Florida.
Outdoor Adventure Show - International Centre, Toronto

Outdoor Adventure Show - International Centre, Toronto
Canoes, kayaks, hiking boots, scuba equipment, healthy food and more. We saw it all at the annual Outdoor Adventure Show in Toronto on the weekend. We arrived shortly before noon on Saturday to an absolutely packed parking lot. Thousands of people had arrived just after the show opened at 10 am. Navigating the aisles was sometimes difficult with so many people packed into one hall. We both agreed that the organizers need to expand to a larger area that would allow for more exhibitors and ease the traffic jams up a little.
The highlight of the show for us was seeing Les Stroud (of Survivorman fame). I hadn't realized that amongst his many talents he is also a musician! He sang beautiful 'earth' songs, answered questions from the audience and with his particularly grand sense of humour, told many stories. Did you know that his 'scariest' survivor experience was right here in Canada ?!? That's right; of all the places in the world he has been, the scariest thing that has happened to him is being chased by a bull moose during rutting season right here in our own Algonquin Park. He survived by climbing a tree. What's the most important thing to bring into the wilderness when you might not see civilization for days or weeks? According to Les it is 'fire'; something to make a fire with is of utmost importance when trying to survive in the wilderness. After watching Les, we walked around and talked with many resort and travel operators. One of our favourite booths at the Outdoor Adventure Show was the Newfoundland and Labrador information centre. We met with the man who has bought up old lighthouses in Newfoundland and turned them into Inns. The Quirpon Lighthouse Inn on the north-east tip of Newfoundland is particularly fascinating. You can sit and watch the icebergs and whales from your doorstep when visiting the inn. We can't wait to visit there next year.Being avid canoeists, we admired the beautiful, lightweight fibreglass canoes that came in such a beautiful array of colours. As we ran our hands over the fine workmanship, we dreamed of canoeing down the French River in Northern Ontario.Mark your calendar and be sure to attend the Outdoor Adventure Show at the International Centre in Toronto next year.

Accidental Discovery- Naples, Florida

Accidental Discovery - Naples, Florida
Our winter vacation this year was not at all what we expected it to be. Wanting to break up the winter by spending three weeks in Florida, we sat with pondering over maps as we tried to decide where our destination should be. We settled on St. Petersburg area and began planning the drive down.We left Ontario at 4am one cold, clear morning. The first day we made it as far as Knoxville, Tennessee. The cold weather was still upon us and that night, while we slept, freezing rain settled into the surrounding mountains. The next morning we had a leisurely breakfast while we waited for the roads to be sanded and the weather to improve. By noon we were on our way again. When we hit the northern border of Florida, we stopped at a rest station and decided to stretch our legs a bit. The warmth and humid air hit us pleasantly as we opened the car doors and we breathed out a grateful sigh. The sun was shining weakly as I opened the car trunk and found my shorts and sandals. Time to change out of winter boots and long pants.Continuing on our way, we drove to Ocala where we had decided to spend a few nights as I had read about the Ocala Forest and wanted to hike there before continuing south. The morning of our departure was a chilly one. Not wanting to waste any of our precious time in a cool place, we decided to go further south than St Petersburg and so settled on Naples. When we arrived in Naples, we thought it a nice looking town, however not being very sure about it's beach or attractions, we thought it best to only book a hotel room for one night. After settling in to our hotel room and having dinner, a walk in the downtown area was in order. It was dark when we parked the car under a giant Banyan tree on a quiet residential street not far from what looked to be Naples downtown.
After walking a short distance, we found ourselves on the Famous 3rd Street South and were enthralled with the lights, live jazz floating through the air and enticing aromas of southern cooking. 'Wow!', we exclaimed quietly to ourselves. 'Naples has a beautiful downtown!'

113th Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count Begins Tomorrow!

113th Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count Begins Tomorrow!Friday, December 14th, 2012 is a Very Special Day. Rising before the crack of dawn, folks throughout North and South America, and in the Carribean, will be packing their lunches, binoculars, field guides and cameras and heading out to local woods and parks to count birds. The Audubon Christmas Bird Count is the longest running citizen science survey in the entire world! With encroaching civilization, habitat loss is at an all-time high. When I was young, the birds singing outside in the trees were so loud, I would often wake at the crack of dawn. Now, even in northern Ontario at the cottage, in the middle of the forest, mornings are often silent. Where have the birds gone? The Audubon Christmas Bird Count monitors bird numbers and type across the Americas, giving much needed data which scientists use to study bird population trends.Last year a record was set with 2,248 Christmas Bird Count Circles (areas across North and South America where the bird count is done). To participate in the Christmas Bird Count, join a circle in your area. Check here to find circles in your area and to find out which day the count is taking place. The Audubon Christmas Bird Count takes place from December 14th, 2012 to January 5th, 2013. There is no cost to join.If you are unable to take part, please consider making a donation to the Audubon Society to help in this annual study. This Christmas season, please consider our feathered friends and take part in the 113th Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count!

Magical Moments at the Toronto Christmas Market 2012

Magical Moments at the Toronto Christmas Market 2012There is a place, not far from home, where memories are made, lights twinkle day and night, songs and bells ring out across the cobblestones, glasses are raised in good cheer, traditional Christmas smells waft through the crisp lakeside air, children play and young and old from every nationality around the world can be found. It's right here in Ontario, Canada in the Distillery Dristrict of Toronto. The Lowes Toronto Christmas Market is a place everyone should visit at least once each Christmas season. It is 'Everything Christmas' and then some.Browsing for Antiques in the Shop.ca Store at the Toronto Christmas Market. I saw a wardrobe there I absolutely fell in love with!A Gentle Giant guards the gate at the Toronto Christmas Market.
Natural Oakville - The Long-tailed Duck or Oldsquaw

The Burlington, Hamilton and Oakville areas are home to hundreds of Long-tailed Ducks in the winter months. They congregate along the Lake Ontario shoreline and in Burlington Bay.
The Long-tailed Duck is the only living member of it's genus 'Clangula".
They breed in the tundra pools or the far north and along sea coasts.
They are a migratory species. In winter they gather in large flocks and migrate to areas along the east and west coasts of North America and to the Great Lakes region.
Long-tailed Ducks are diving ducks. They can dive to a depth of 200 feet.
Unlike many of the more common ducks, Oldsquaw are carnivorous. They dive for mollusks, crustaceans and small fish.
Oldsquaw or Long-tailed Ducks are considered a 'Threatened Species' and are protected under the Agreement in the Conservation of African and Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds also known as AEWA.
Take a walk by the shores of Burlington Bay to see the hundreds of Long-tailed Ducks that are here for the winter. They're a small, pretty duck and quite unusual looking.

lessons learned - from a to z

a Aristocrats who do not know they are aristocrats are the real ones. Beware of those who try to walk the walk and talk the talk without having the class to back it up. They can waste your time and smudge up your belief in human nature a wee bit.
b Boxes come in all sizes and the biggest ones don't always hold the greatest treasures. The same goes for homes.
c Christmas comes but once a year. Do your best to be with those you love. Life is fleeting and some of them might not still be with us next year.
d Dust collects not only on things, but on people too. Stay active and dustfree and you will shine more.e Elephants feel emotions just like you and I. In fact, most animals do. I like the saying 'Animals are my friends and I don't eat my friends'. f Frivolity is sometimes a necessary measure. Like when it's snowing and you feel like laying down and making a snow angel. Just do it.g Gifts are not always something we can touch, taste, smell, see or hear. The best ones are often the ones that are undetectable by every organ of our body except for our heart.
h Hard times don't last. Wait and see. Tomorrow the sun will shine and things will be totally different. i Ideas are the stuff that life is made of. Believe in yours.
j Juniper berries are blue. Did you know that juniper berries are female and give the only spice derived from Conifers? Some species are toxic though. Never generalize.
k Kale is one of the healthiest greens known to mankind. It's also very easy to grow. The best things in life often are.l Love. What more can I say.
m Mothers never stop being Mothers. A Mother will toughen you up as she knows how hard the world can be and she wants to prepare you for what comes.
n Nice people don't always finish last. This is one of the great myths of our time. Nice people are more like the turtle and the hare story...they may be slower in getting there, but they usually finish first in the end.o Opportunities present themselves to us many times on a daily basis. It's up to us whether or not we choose to see them and act upon them.
p Persistence pays dividends in more ways than one. Being persistent is a skill that anyone can learn. Keep on keeping on.q Quality is more important than quantity. Quality increases quantity. It doesn't work the other way around.r Recreation is just as important as work. Without recreation we shrivel and our work suffers. Set apart some time every day for a healthy recreational actiivity.
s Simplicity is clutter free. When your life is simple and uncluttered an energy flow will result, bringing good things into your life and allowing the bad things to leave unencumbered. Keep it Simple.
t Time is the one Great Leveler for all people. Successful people don't have more time, they just don't allow the time they do have to escape unused. Use your time wisely.
u Uplifting things and people will add to our lives. Life is short. Fill your life with that which uplifts you. Clear out that which brings you down.
v Visual. Human beings are visual creatures. Think 'visually appealing' in all areas of your life.
w Worry will eat away at your soul allowing despair to creep in. Rather than spending your time worrying, take action. You'll find worry will dissipate and that which you were worried about will take care of itself.
x eXtra. Always give that little bit eXtra to everything you do. The pay-off will be exponential.
y You are unique and here to bring your gift to the world. You'll know what your gift is for it is that which comes easiest to you. Cultivate your gift and it will begin to cultivate you.
z Zing, that little something different that yells out to the world, is important. Make each day a 'Zingful' day.©JoSmith2012

Need a Ride Home in Burlington, Ontario? Call Operation Red Nose! It's that time of year again when merry-making sometimes results in tragic accidents when merry-makers don't stop to consider whether or not they should be getting behind the wheel and driving home.Alcohol-related accidents result in thousands of deaths and injuries yearly.
Will 2013 Be Your Year of Great Success? 12 Ways to Make it So!

Will 2013 Be Your Year of Great Success? 12 Ways to Make it So!Believe in Possiblities.Remove self limiting beliefs and the boundaries they impose from your thought process. Success is based on the goal stick you set for yourself. Are you someone who sets the goal stick just beyond your comfort zone and is always striving to 'just meet' those goals that will ensure your comfort and no more? Perhaps it's time you lifted that goal post and set it down far ahead of your comfort zone into the realm of limitless possibilities.Dare to Try the 'Different' and 'Outrageous". Engaging your right brain enables your imagination to take hold and ideas to begin a free-fall. Ideas are a gift. Make it a point to bring one of your new ideas into reality on a weekly basis.Stand Up and Be Counted.Never forget that you are a unique and valuable individual with gifts that only you can bring to the world. Determine what those gifts are and begin to use them.Commit.Only by committing do we begin to move forward.Be a Person of Private Integrity. What we do in private, in those moments when no one else is observing us, are what truly show us who we are. Work on your private integrity. If you are able to be with yourself and like who you are, you have won half the battle. Private integrity ensures good public character.Connect. Remember that we are all in this together. Learning to take down the barriers and asking for help when you need it, is a sign of strength, not weakness. Conversely, help those who may be needing your help. The connection you form will serve you exponentially in all areas of your life.Respect Yourself. You are a fine-tuned creature, thousands of years in the making. Be gentle with your mind, soul, heart and physical being. Rest, play, eat healthy foods and exercise regularly. Do those things which bring you clarity and peace.Love.Find the good in each person and love that part of them. Almost all of the people you meet bring a gift of some kind into your life.Recognize That Fear is Often Unfounded. Don't allow fears to cause you to freeze or withdraw. Move through the fear and stay active.Live in the Moment You Are In.You have control over your actions and reactions in each moment you are presented with. Make every moment count.Be Kind.Every gift you have is meant to be passed on. An unexpected kindness shown to one person each day, multiplies and reaches many people. Try it and see for yourself.Share Your Knowledge. When we empower others, we empower ourselves. Knowledge is meant to be shared.
Our world is in a constant state of evolving and so are we. We are here to be happy and successful, in all areas of our lives. 2013 will be a year to remember if we make it a point to work on one of the 12 principles above each and every day, starting today, until they all become habit.

Vacant Building Lot Near Burlington or Oakville Area -Well Location

Vacant Building Lot Near Burlington or Oakville Area - Well LocationPure, crystal, health-giving and necessary. For as long as there have been people, water has been one of the basic needs for survival. In today's world, water is becoming a high-priced and steadily more rare commodity which is disappearing due to over and mis-use.If you're considering building a house outside of the Burlington or Oakville city limits, chances are your family's water source will be a well. There are many important things to know as you begin your home search and learning about these now will not only save you a great deal of heartache and money down the road, they may also save your health or that of family member. All wells get their water from an underground water source known as 'groundwater'. Groundwater is replenished via the earth's surface water which comes from rain and snow. Below the earth's surface, rain and melting snow seep down to pool in saturated layers below the water table. These saturated layers are known as 'aquifers'.Depending on the type of soil or rock above an aquifer, pollutants coming in with the rain, snow or environmental spills, can seep down and render an aquifer unusable or contaminated. Areas where the soil is very coarse or where there are fissures in the bedrock are more susceptible to this kind of contamination.Faulty septic systems, decaying toxic waste or fuel barrels or tanks may also contaminate all wells in the vicinity. If a well is poorly maintained, not constructed properly or not properly sealed when no longer needed, it can be a source for contaminated surface water that results in the pollution of the aquifer that feeds into many surrounding wells. The government of Ontario has therefore set out Regulation 903 of the Ontario Water Resources Act in order to protect all citizens. Within the structure of this law, are obligations that well owners must follow in Ontario, or risk being brought to court under contravention of the law.Groundwater is not static. Rather it flows just as a river or stream on the surface does. The water under the earth's surface flows much more slowly than surface water. Depending on the substrate it is flowing through, it can flow as slowly as a, the groundwater flows in as the well water is being used. The closer a souce of contamination is to your well, the more danger there is, however be aware that groundwater contaminants may spread several kilometres away from their source. few millimetres a day to a few metres a day or more. In the area where there are wellsIf you are buying a vacant piece of land and considering building a new home in the Burlington or Oakville area, choosing a location for your well is of paramount importance and one of the first steps you should take. The area you pick should be on a higher point of land and as far away as possible from contaminant sources. The ground surface near the well should be landscaped to direct surface water contaminants to flow away from the well. It's best to contact a Ministry of the Environment licensed well contractor to assist you in locating the proper location for a new well on your property. The basic guidelines, when considering a well location away from sources of contamination such as septic systems, road salts, manure piles, livestock fuel storage tanks, etc are as follows:
~For drilled wells which have watertight casings 20 feet (6 metres) or more below ground level, potential contaminant sources must be located at least 50 feet (15 metres) away.~For all other well types, contaminant sources must be at least 100 feet (30 metres) away.
Please be aware that even these minimum distances are not a guarantee that your well will always be safe to drink from. It's extremely important to maximize the distance from contaminant sources as much as possible and to reduce the sources for contamination or eliminate them entirely. When buying a vacant building lot near the Burlington or Oakville area, choosing a location for your well is one of the most important steps on the road to your new home.

A Better Business Blog Means Writing With Soul

A Better Business Blog Means Writing With SoulAs I gazed upon the majestic Niagara Escarpment revealing itself through a thin layer of fog this morning, I began to reflect on why some blogs attract a great following and others do not. I thought of the blogs that touch me deeply and make me want to subscribe or go on reading. They have the ability to reach out and touch people, brushing them lightly or sometimes jabbing them sharply and striking a chord or a feeling that's hard to shake. We find ourselves identifying with those blogs. They leave us with a sense of home or adventure. How do we explain the feeling that some bloggers just naturally leave us with whenever we visit their blogs? Are they expert writers or is it something more? I have a strong suspicion it's something much, much more. The blogs that touch me the deepest and leave me wanting more, are those that are written from deep within the blogger, from the heart, and the very best are written from the soul itself. The words come from a far-off place that we all know of and, in our hearts, remember. As they bridge the gap between the writer and the reader, they leave us feeling warm and cuddled and like life is really a wonderful place to be, afterall.
Why does one blogger have the ability to reach deep down within themselves into that magical place where time and space do not exist, and therein find just the right words that have the ability to touch those places within each of us and another can't seem to get there? Is it a commitment to being real and honest and open or is it something else?
In a world that is moving faster all the time, and where information overload assaults all of the senses at every turn, people have a deep empty chasm where things 'of the soul' should be and yet, few of these things can ever be found. Those bloggers who blog from the soul write with passion and transparency and in so doing, are able to capture the attention and emotions of the reader. When writing from the soul, keep the following tips in mind:
Highlight the positive qualities of your subject matter. Readers become followers of a writer due to the feeling that writer left them with.
Put yourself in your target audience's shoes. This will inspire a feeling of trust and further interest.
Don't use lingo or trade-talk. Using trade-talk will put up a barrier between you and your reader and create an uncomfortable feeling.
Offer to give further resources on the subject. Let them know that if they would like brochures, packages, personalized service, etc, to feel free to contact you.
If your brain is on overload with a zillion thoughts and you are unable to relax into writing mode, take a short walk in a natural environment or do whatever helps you to feel calm and open to ideas. Taking a break refreshes your creative spirit.
Keep a thesaurus handy or use the online thesaurus. Less commonly heard words add zest to an article.
Practice discipline. Writing for business should be part of your Marketing Plan and Daily Goals.
Read other articles on the subject you're writing about and, time permitting, talk with people who are in the know. This will give you first hand experience and will help when trying to convey a certain feeling or thought in your post. Remember, passion is contagious.
Add images to your article to make it more visually appealing. When used properly, images will also increase the search engine rankings of your post and help you or your website to be found, bringing you more contacts and potential customers/clients.
Write about something you are passionate about. If your post is about something that you find unappealing, find something about that subject that you are passionate about and go from there.
Try not to be too structured as you write. Just write what you feel and when you are finished your 'rough draft', you can go back and make revisions or corrections.
Avoid having paragraphs that are too long. Break your thoughts up by making your paragraphs short. Vary the kind of text you're using by bolding some lines, italicizing others and perhaps underlining the more pertinent points in your post.Using the bullet or number feature to help outline a series of pertinent points.
Plan your article by making a point form 'skeleton' Once you have your 'skeleton', you'll find it much easier to begin writing and you'll find 'fleshing' it out, will come much easier.
Use plenty of adjectives. This allows the reader to more fully experience what you are telling them.
If you have writer's block, try picking a specific subject to write about and focus on it. Your writer's block will ease once you begin to tell about your subject matter.
Don't always start with a headline/title. Instead, write about your subject and while you're writing, you may notice a certain string of words jump out at you as being ideal for the title of your post.
If you're having a problem writing about a certain subject, pretend you are telling your best friend or a family member about the subject ,or answering a question they've asked you about it.
Try to write in the morning when your mind is fresh and uncluttered. Alternatively, sometimes writing at night when the world is at peace will enable you to focus more and reach that place deep down inside where thoughts and words come more easily.
Project 'feeling' into your descriptions. For instance, rather than saying a meeting is held on the second floor of a certain building every second tuesday, say something like 'as you ride the elevator up to the second floor meeting hall, you might be fortunate enough to meet the guest speaker!'
Interview someone who is directly involved with what you are writing about . Make sure and ask their permission to quote them directly and/or to include their picture. Readers love this personal approach and who knows, you just might meet some new potential clients while doing your interviews!
If you're stuck somewhere in the middle of your article, put it in draft mode and leave it for later. You'll find a fresh approach will remove the writer's block and you'll likely have brewed some bright new ideas to include. The subconscious mind loves to be given a task to work on and you'll often find that when you come back to your article, much of it has been written for you.
Allow yourself to relax and don't be afraid to reveal who you are through your writing. Remember:
Readers want to feel that you understand them, that you care and that you are just like them in many ways. That 'feeling of familiarity' will bring you another step closer to achieving what you've set out to do.

There You ARE! I've Been Waiting For You!!!Let's Get to Know One-Another:

Old Oakville Real Estate Market Report, Oakville Ontario October 2012

Old Oakville Real Estate Market Report, Oakville Ontario October 2012Oakville's oldest community, Old Oakville was the first area to be settled due to it's natural harbour at the mouth of Sixteen Mile Creek. With the proximity to the harbour, early settlement flourished.Today, Old Oakville encompasses the Old Oakville Heritage Conservation District, consisting of 162 residences that were built in the 19th century. Using river and lake stone for the foundations, many of these homes have since been recognized with plaques near their entrances. The plaques indicate the original owner (and often the original owner's occupation) and the year in which the house was built. Residents and tourists alike enjoy taking a stroll through the streets of Old Oakville to view these unique and beautiful heritage homes.Old Oakville is also known as the Old Oakville Downtown Residential Area. Oakville's main downtown core can be found here with many theatres, excellent shopping and dining facilities, marinas and parks.
Burlington Heritage Buildings - The Burlington Pump House

Burlington Heritage Buildings - The Burlington Pump HouseIn 1908 Burlington was a bustling shipping town on the shores of Lake Ontario. With it's proximity to water transportation, the town was quickly growing and the citizens demand for clean drinking water soon became a main concern with the town council. The funds were allocated and an engineer was sought out for the designing of the desired 'Pump House' which was to built near an underground source of clean filtred water on the shores of Burlington Beach.Engineer W.C. Chipman was hired. He designed a beautiful, brick building with classical detailing in the 'Beaux Art' style, showing how important this building was to be from an architectural standpoint. On June 14, 1909, Reeve Maxwell Smith turned the first sod and the Burlington Pump House began it's illustrious history.E. Williamson was chosen to build the structure at a cost of $3,554.00. Smart Turner Co. supplied and installed the electrically operated pumping machinery at a cost of $5000.00.The pump well was the final addition to the building at a cost of $1,943.00.The Burlington Pump House was put into commission in March of 1910 and served the citizens of Burlington dutifully until 1936, a year after Burlington's first water filtration plant was built. The Pump House then became a private residence for a number of years. The Burlington Pump House was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act in 1992.After braving the wind and storms that blow in off the shores of Lake Ontario all of these years, the beautiful building now has fallen into disuse. Peeling paint and dusty windows becry the loneliness of a building that once served Burlington so well.In the past year, discussions have been underway by city council as to what should be done with the building. With it's ideal location on the Burlington Beach, a decision has been reached that will see the Burlington Pump House eventually become a pub or food venue serving the public who frequent the beach in the summer season. The Burlington Pump House is one of Burlington's most interesting Heritage Buildings, having a history encompassing utility, then residential and now, finally, in it's twilight years, one of recreation and enjoyment.
