I ordered a pile of Spectra film from eBay and The Impossible Project and am going to be sharing one shot a day for the month of July. I will probably mostly use my Spectra System SE camera because I know it works. I have a few other thrifted cameras and  film though and I may give them a go at some point too.

Back to the PA State Park beaches…this time closer and more ‘beachy’ with umbrellas, radios, and lots of sand. Gouldsboro park will be the one we make little trips to. It is closer and easy to get to, has a nice big beach with lots of roped off swimming areas of different depths, and has swings!

This was the first shot I took with the Silver Shade film. I am happy with it, but it crystallized a bit before I scanned it. I am torn: do I keep it in a box with silica gel packets so it lasts better, or keep it out and enjoy it until it fades to nothing? I am thinking I will scan them so I have them forever, and then enjoy them.

I may have cheated a little to have this shot…I saved a last photo on my pack of Spectra film that I knew was good, because I wanted to get this picture.

On the way to the house where Lee spent his childhood summers playing in the river and riding bikes, there is a house with a flying saucer outside. It has been there as long as Lee remembers. And now there are even aliens hanging out by their ship. I have wanted to take a photo of it forever, and Kaylee is the perfect size to pose with the aliens now. I finally convinced Lee and we pulled over. As I am out there taking photos, the owners come around the house. They were really friendly and said people stop all the time. I am so glad we did too. Oddly it didn’t even feel awkward. Next year I want to get a picture with Jack and Kaylee out there!

Making treats for Daddy’s birthday. I used a super kid-friendly recipe from Emma, and let Kaylee do most of it. I held back when she made little wads of dough, not balls, and let her pretty much do her thing with ‘painting’ the chocolate on. They may not have all been picture perfect, but she had a wonderful time and didn’t even ask to sample the dough or the finished treats because they were for Daddy. A total success that she is still talking about.

Pennsylvania is awesome for state parks, and we live near a bunch of them since we are so close to the Pocono Mountains. We went for a quick picnic dinner to the Promised Land State Park to give Kaylee a shot at the beach. It is a lake, but there is a nice small beach. And it was nearly empty on a weeknight, except for the crowds of ducks that wanted to share our dinner. Kaylee loved it. She didn’t want to get out of the water.  A huge change from last year when she wouldn’t even step on the sand and avoided our beige carpet for days after visiting a lake beach.

After realizing how easy it is to pop to a park and how much Kaylee (and soon Jack) loved it, you feel a bit like you wasted a lot of summer evenings not doing it. But, now we know and there will be many more trips to the park in the future and especially next summer. Did I mention they are all free? Amazing!!

We watched my parents’ elderly, 3-legged dog for a week while they went on vacation. Poor guy tolerates our two dogs and the kids, but missed home. He spent the entire week on the couch…like this.

Which seems a bit lazy, but let’s be honest….this is how my dogs spend the day excepting the thrilling bit when the mail is delivered.

Besides, the couch is the perfect spot to look out the window and watch for the arrival of the mail. Really, it is the best place to hang out. Bailey picked up on that immediately.

Lee and Kaylee made pancakes for breakfast on Sunday. Jack was a little miffed that all he got was baby oatmeal. He drooled watching every bite that Kaylee took and made a few swipes at Lee’s plate.

Some of the finished totes displayed on the dress form. I have a ton of totes in progress….all with dog motifs. I intended to do an event at the end of the month, but I rashly overestimated what I can accomplish with 2 little kids and simultaneous work on the house. Guess those totes will end up in the shop along with the ones pictured.

I don’t swim. I don’t much care for the water, unless it is really, really hot. And it is. Our neighbors have a pool and have generously invited us to swim whenever we please. Tonight, after the kids were in bed, I took them up on it and went in for a quick dip. The best thing? Our video monitor reaches over to the pool.

It has been ridiculous hot. As in, my phone beeps every few hours to remind me there is an ‘excessive heat’ warning and we turn on the air conditioning downstairs as soon as we get up. Yuck. Kaylee’s desire to play outside is not affected by this in the least. She donned her helmet and attempted to ride her tricycle–which she is still too short for, even with blocks attached to the pedals. Instead she took her horsey (which was mine when I was little) for a spin. She insisted she still wear her helmet. We have trained her well. When we are driving she notifies us if people on their motorcycles ‘forgot’ their helmets (we don’t have a helmet law in PA).

This was also the last shot on my pack of sx-70 film and I think I can say the camera does indeed work, but I need to work on my perspective and shakiness.

Kaylee she is always doting on Jack. He beams at her and she is a patient and loving big sister. Moments like these help me regain my composure after one of her screaming tantrums.
