I have three daughters, as you know. Katie is now 14—almost 15—Sarah is 13, and Megan is 11 going on 35! I have yet to experience a ‘bad age’ with my girls, to be honest. I am so proud of them and so impressed with who they are choosing to be. However, they are teenagers. Though I fancy myself the ‘cool mom who totally gets them,’ the truth is, I am baffled more than I want to admit. While my friends are my sounding board, for the most part, I love finding parenting help that is really relevant and easy to absorb. So when I was told about the 100-word, daily parenting tip newsletter from the Center for Parent and Teen Communication (CPTC), I had to go check them out.

In case you have not heard of them, CPTC provides science-based strategies to support healthy family relationships. Get real and reliable help with everything from helping your teenager with self-esteem and body image to puberty and communication and so much more. I have spent so much time on the site because I keep finding things that are helpful. There is even a section just for teens.

I really, really like the 100 word daily parenting newsletter and clear animations. In fact, one, Self-Interested Isn’t the Same as Selfish, was really eye-opening for me!

One daughter is a selfie queen, and I get frustrated, wondering if it is OK that she is the center of her world all the time? Or does it make her too self-absorbed and ‘selfish’? How about when she’s the star of all of her stories, or when she shows no interest in her sister’s stories?

Turns out, according to this 100-word parenting tip animated video, she is just exploring her own self-interests. This made me stop and really think. Maybe I was being too harsh asking them to redirect their attention. That was EYE-OPENING. She is getting to know who she is. And I WANT that! So, selfie away, girls!

Halloween has been a big topic of conversation lately – and it’s not only about costumes and candy! As our country continues to see COVID-19 cases, families across the U.S. are trying to figure out how to celebrate Halloween safely without giving up this incredibly fun season. Some are even asking if – *gasp* – Halloween is canceled.

The good news is Halloween is happening!

It was time for me to reclaim my “office” space, and make it usable!  See Mark had started wondering out loud why I never used the desktop anymore. I had a list of reasons – like it’s not as comfy as the couch – but the main one was there was too much chaos on the desk.

I could not sit down here, and work because I’d get distracted with all the unfiled paperwork, papers that needed shredding, and kids toys and homework that found it’s way to this space. Creative juices were being sucked up from this mess that was supposed to be my workspace.

Something HAD to be done! Since it is spring, I figured why not give my desk a good spring cleaning the same way I do everything else in the house. It starts with a complete removal of everything! Papers, folders, toys, garbage, books, files were all picked up and moved to the kitchen table, my go to sorting spot.

Once it’s all been removed thoroughly wipe down your space. The nooks and crannies of the keyboard, inside the desk drawer. Nothing was left untouched.

I like to change things up to give a fresh look and feel to my rooms, and simply angling the monitor into the corner of the desk has given me just enough of a change to feel inspired again.

The next part is the grueling task of putting it all back together. This Stacking Wood Desk Organizer did the trick!  Without this solution, it could have been a horrific task. Now instead of 2 piles, I can separate our papers into 7 different areas! With 5 tiered slots on the top, a flat shelf, and an extra drawer I have all the space I need for those pesky papers that like to pile their way into my life.

Really now, doesn’t that look fabulous?! I can feel the creative juices just flowing back into me with an organized workspace. This solution really helped out, and even created a little nook between it and the monitor that has allowed me to add a few of the things that inspire me –

Ingredients

• Materials:
• Plastic Eggs
• Wood skewer sticks
• Hot Glue Gun
• Hot glue Sticks
• Foam Board, 2inch thick
• Paint
• Paint brushes

Instructions

1. Warm up your hot glue gun.
2. Take your wood skewers and poke the sharp end into the bottom of the eggs. This will be used as your handle while painting the eggs.
3. Once your glue gun is warm, take one egg at a time by the skewer, and apply hot glue to the egg in any desired design. Swirls, zig zag, flowers, hearts, and vertical lines are great for this project. I found the more simple the design, the easier it was and actually turned out the best.
4. Let the glue dry and remove all glue strings that may have stuck to the egg while designing.
5. Next, chose the base colors for your eggs. I used pastels to match the theme of Easter Egg. I used a paper plate and applied a small amount of each chosen color to make a palette, and for quick and easy painting.
6. Apply chosen color evenly all over your egg, even over the dried hot glue. Use your foam board to stick the other end of the wooden skewer into, allowing the egg to stand freely and dry.
7. Paint all the eggs in desired colors and set aside, allowing a few hours to dry.
8. Next chose your contrast color. I used metallic gold and metallic silver. I do prefer the look of the gold on the pastel colors over the look of the silver.
9. Take a small amount of the contrast color and by using a smaller paint brush, apply to the glue design on each egg.
10. Have fun with it, mix and match, you can’t go wrong! Once all paint has dried you may use in any area of the house in adorable Easter decorations.
11. Tips: Cover your working area with news paper or paper towels. Painting can be messy.

That means I’ve been researching all the different fun ways to decorate some hard boiled eggs this weekend. We’ve got 9 kids that will be participating, so relatively easy is my main goal. Second goal is relatively mess free. I have a feeling that won’t happen no matter what we do with 9 kids.

Here are my top 9 favorite ideas for decorating your eggs. They aren’t all super easy, and they definitely aren’t all mess free. But the end results are pretty, so really that’s all I’m looking for.

For the naturalists, Walking on Sunshine has a great outline of how to dye Easter Eggs naturally with instructions for many different colors.

Tie Dye Easter Eggs from A Day In Motherhood. You most likely have everything you need to make these fun eggs.

These Easy Dyed Easter Eggs from Domestic Superhero have the word easy in them! And they only take 2 ingredients – again probably things you have in your home already.

Momdot uses a very similar method to Domestic Superhero’s, but she changes one ingredient out for another. See what it is in her Whipped Cream Dyed Easter Eggs.

Dyed Rubber Eggs from Living Well Mom can be lots of fun if you or your kids are into Science. You’ll be turning real eggs into rubber eggs with this method.

The last of our dyed eggs is a bit different but the effects are spectacular. These Lace Dyed Eggs from Outnumbered 3 to 1 make a fancy addition to your Easter baskets.

Not every Easter Egg needs to be Dyed, nor do they need to be real eggs! These 3 ideas remove the egg dying mess from your kitchen and replace it with alternatives. I’ll let you decide if they are equally messy or easier than using dye.

In my research for what makes a food heart healthy, I found it doesn’t take much to care for our beating organ. A few berries here, toss some flaxseed in there, munch on some nuts, and even a bit of chocolate can do good for your heart.

With Valentines coming up we thought some fun pink designs would be the perfect color to adorn my oldest’s nails. Before getting started, we watched a couple youtube videos to make sure we knew what we were doing. It all seemed simple enough, and the girls had grand ideas of designs they wanted to create.

What you need to make your own Marbled Nail Art

• Nail Polish
• Water
• toothpicks
• scotch tape
• a paper cup
• Nail Polish remover
• cotton swabs

To begin, fill a cup with room temperature water. Open all the nail polish colors you want to use. Taking the time to open and close while dripping them in the water takes too long, so just leave them open. Loosely, but securely wrap each finger in tape so just the nail shows. Begin dripping 1 drop of your colored nail polish into the water. Each new color should be in the center of the last. The water helps it disburse across the top of the cup.

Using the toothpick, begin making swirls, hearts, lips, or whatever your heart desires in the nail polish. Do not break the outer ring, as it has probably dried and will pull up all the polish. Once you have a design your happy with, dip your finger, nail down, into the polish. Use another toothpick to quickly swirl and pull out the nail polish that did not go on your nail. Pull your finger out, and enjoy your Marbled nails!

Isn’t that so much fun? While I like to do things the easy way, and love sharing just how easy something was – that is not the case here! There is a learning curve with marbled nail art. I want it to be easy for you though so here are my tips and tricks we learned along the way.

Use a paper cup. Seems obvious, but we were out this particular day, and I didn’t want to run to the store, but we really wanted our nails painted too. Now I have a mug with a rim of pink polish inside.

Use a lot of tape. Don’t be afraid to really wrap your finger in tape. We went for a strip around the base of the fingernail. Bad. Don’t do this. Especially if you plan on doing this with a child. While I only anticipated her putting the fingernail side of her finger in the water, we managed to submerge every finger back and front.

New Nail Polish. We had actually tried this last year, but with nail polish we’ve had in the cupboard forever. It took too long to drip and was not runny enough to spread out in the cup. This time, we bought brand new polish to work with, and it made all the difference.

Darker colors. I found the lighter colors of polish disburse too much and lose their color once in the water. Darker colors, that contrast won’t have this problem. Also, if you want to use a sparkly polish, it will only work as the very last color added.

My Fairy Garden

PlayMonster really dug up a winner with this idea!  My daughter loves planting things and watching it grow!  It gives her a connection to nature. My Fairy Garden takes it to a new level by allowing children to step into the fairy world as part of their enchanting living play set!  There are seeds, adorable fairies, woodland friends and lots more amazing accessories!  Each kit includes everything children need to grow their very own fairy garden, nurture the plants, and play in the fairy world they create!  I am excited to see how this teaches her to one day grow and nurture her very own garden!

Spintensity

This is an all-new, version of 5 Second Rule! There is a new spin on it, so to speak!  Like in the original game, you name 3 things, but you’ve got more time now…maybe!  The new random timer is going, going, and you never know when it will stop!  Hurry to name three things, then spin to see what you have to do next: name MORE things, draw another card, or pass to the next player!  You can even combine this with the original game for even more fun! Batteries required. For 3 or more players, for ages 14 and up.

We played this one as a family, and couldn’t stop laughing, it is spontaneous, and could be a little dangerous…you never know what you might spit out!  Even the adults love this game!

Orangutwang

This game is so much fun when you just want to hang around with friends and family!  My niece loves this game, and can’t get enough of it!  She giggles and laughs out loud, we even have fun acting like a bunch of silly monkey’s, and bananas make a great snack before or after this fun game!  Orangutwang is a fun and suspenseful.  It is a wild and silly game! Take turns hanging fruit and jungle friends on the orangutan, but be careful, eventually he’ll be holding too much fruit and he’ll fly thru the air and send the fruit and his friends flying.  The suspense is…when! No batteries required, and easy set up.  This game is for 2 or more players.

This game was a big winner, being named 2019 National Parenting Product Award Winner and a Parents Choice Award!!

Melt Down

This game is suspenseful and exciting with so much anticipation…will you be the first to get rid of your cubes?  My boys thought this game was a blast!  The goal is to pile it on until there’s a…Meltdown! You place satisfying squishy goop on top of the tower —you can roll it, smash it, just place it however you want. Then you place the balancing platform on top of the goop! Take turns stacking the slippery cubes you have…but be careful…between the goop and slippery platform, it’s always moving and shifting!  If there’s a MELTDOWN and any cubes fall, you have to take them, and that’s dangerous because the goal is to get RID of your cubes! No batteries required.For 2 or more players.
