In addition, photographers who regularly use burst or continuous shooting mode during high-action situations such as sporting, wildlife or fashion photography can also benefit from the increased capacity and performance.

“The new 16GB SanDisk Extreme IV CompactFlash card at 45MB/s demonstrates SanDisk’s commitment to providing serious photographers with the high performance they require,” said Susan Park, director of consumer product marketing for SanDisk’s performance cards. “Our goal is to help photographers maximize their productive output by equipping them with cards that offer ample storage space and fast data transfer rates.”

“Hasselblad and SanDisk have a long working relationship in advancing digital photography,” said Christian Poulsen, the CEO of Hasselblad. “The 16GB SanDisk Extreme IV card’s increased storage capacity and high speed deliver the performance required to optimize our Hasselblad digital backs and H3D digital cameras for professional-grade uses.”

SanDisk Extreme IV cards carry a lifetime limited warranty and hold the industry’s widest guaranteed operating temperature range, from 13F (minus 25C) to 185F (plus 85C). Finally, Extreme IV CF cards can transfer data from card to computer using a SanDisk Extreme FireWire reader (sold separately), which helps speed up workflow by transferring large image files through the computer’s FireWire port at a speed of up to 45MB/s.

Pricing and Availability
The 16GB SanDisk Extreme IV CompactFlash memory card is available now and it carries a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $399.99 in the United States.

32-GIGABYTE SANDISK EXTREME III COMPACTFLASH CARDS IDEAL FOR NEW DIGITAL SLR CAMERAS WITH FULL HD VIDEO CAPTURE

COLOGNE, GERMANY. September 23, 2008 –The recent release of Canon’s EOS 5D Mark II DSLR camera represents an emerging trend in digital imaging: the convergence of high-megapixel still photograph and High Definition (HD) video capture in a single digital single-reflex lens (DSLR) camera and the need for large-capacity memory cards to support these added capabilities. With flickr.com now allowing users to post 90 second videos, or “long photos” as they are called, the DSLR video movement has definitely arrived. Canon’s new DSLR camera enables enthusiasts to take professional-grade photos and video, while SanDisk (NASDAQ:SNDK) memory cards provide the robust capacity required to store the resulting data.

The groundbreaking addition of HD video capturing capabilities in a DSLR camera opens up whole new avenues of creative expression for users. Point and shoot digital cameras have been able to shoot video for some time, but HD video-enabled DSLRs take such innovation to another level. DSLR cameras offer users increased versatility with the ability to film using a wide variety of lenses. Now video enthusiasts can use a fisheye lens during one shot in order to capture wide hemispherical images, and a telephoto lens during another shot for close ups.

RAW images consume up to 10 times as much space as regular JPGs, making an afternoon’s worth of wedding photos or using burst mode at sporting events a memory-intensive affair. The new 32-gigabyte1 (GB) SanDisk Extreme® III CompactFlash® (CF) card enables photographers to shoot in RAW for extended periods of time without worrying about running out of storage space.

Featuring 16:9 Full HD video capture at 1920 x 1080 pixels and 30 frames-per-second (fps), Canon’s EOS-5D Mark II DSLR demands a memory card with the storage capacity required to make such filming both possible and enjoyable. At a whopping 32GB, the latest addition to the award-winning SanDisk Extreme III Compact Flash line can store over an hour and a half of video at full HD resolution. With a 30 megabyte-per-second2 (MB/s) write speed, SanDisk’s card can transfer 32GB of content to a computer in a little over 15 minutes.

“The Canon EOS-5D Mark II highlights the newest trend in DSLRs which is to combine high-quality still photography with full HD video,” said Susan Park, director of product marketing at SanDisk. “This is truly a remarkable camera that takes full advantage of the SanDisk Extreme family of high-performance and large-capacity memory cards.”

The SanDisk Extreme III family includes CompactFlash cards that range from 4GB to 32GB as well as the new SanDisk Extreme III SDHC™ and SanDisk Extreme III Memory Stick PRO HG DUO™ cards that recently received a 50 percent speed increase from 20MB/s to 30MB/s. Renowned for their world-class durability, SanDisk Extreme III CF cards possess the industry’s widest guaranteed operating temperature, ranging from minus 13F (minus 25C) to 185F (plus 85C)

Designed as a 'three in one' sensor combining the benefits of high resolution, high sensitivity and wide dynamic range, Super CCD EXR uses a totally new color filter array and has the ability to process half the pixels separately. This should, according to the press release, get Fujifilm closer to the holy grail of compact camera design; small sensors that don't sacrifice noise and DR for resolution. Again there's no product this time around.

A ‘three-in-one’ sensor for high resolution, high sensitivity and wide dynamic range Made by photographic specialists for photographic specialists

PHOTOKINA 2008, COLOGNE, GERMANY, September 23, 2008 FUJIFILM Corporation, on the anniversary of 10 years of FinePix cameras, has developed “Super CCD EXR,” a revolutionary new sensor developed in the rigorous pursuit of high image quality.

There is strong demand in the digital camera market to increase the number of pixels on a sensor, which, all too often, is used as a convenient yardstick for image quality. While introducing excellent 12-megapixel cameras such as the FinePix F50fd and the FinePix F100fd, Fujifilm has had great success in increasing pixel density while at the same time controlling noise and optimizing sensitivity. Fujifilm’s campaign to improve overall image quality, while at the same time increasing sensor resolution, has been coordinated under the program of ‘Real Photo Technology.’

‘Real Photo Technology’ is underpinned by the belief that experienced photographers, many brought up using famous reversal films like FUJICHROME Velvia or PROVIA, understand that true image quality is about a combination of many factors like tone, hue, color fidelity, dynamic range, sharpness, and resolution. It is well known that increasing the pixel count on a sensor actually makes it more difficult to achieve high sensitivity and wide dynamic range. As the photodiode gets smaller, the problems of increased noise, blooming and clipping increase. Super CCD EXR

It is widely believed that ‘high resolution’ and ‘high sensitivity’ are irreconcilable opposites, and impossible to optimize on the same sensor, particularly for compact cameras, where sensors are necessarily smaller. High quality pictures are dependent on the subject. Excellent low light pictures need high sensitivity; high contrast pictures need wide dynamic range, while fine details, like the leaves of a tree or strands of a model’s hair, depend on high resolution. Fujifilm engineers set about the task of building a Flexible sensor to match the demands of the photographer. The end-goal is to produce a sensor that works as close to that of the human eye as possible. Whatever nuance of color or sensitivity of tone that makes the scene so special to the photographer should be the continual challenge of the sensor engineer. The EXR sensor is essentially a switchable sensor; changing its complex electronic behavior to suit the subject, changing its characteristics as the photographer demands, and producing the very best picture without making compromises.

“Super CCD EXR” is the latest new generation of Super CCD to be produced by Fujifilm. Over the years, Fujifilm has excelled in high resolution sensors through ‘HR’ technology (F50fd, F100fd) and high sensitivity/wide dynamic range through ‘SR’ sensors (S3 Pro, S5 Pro). The direction in the future will be to combine HR and SR technology together to produce one universal sensor suitable for all high quality photography.

> more Technology of Super CCD EXR

Both the cards will start shipping this month.

Cologne, Germany, September 23rd , 2008 － Pretec, creator of the highest capacity CompactFlash card in the world (48GB) and the fastest CF card in the world (333X) will demonstrate even higher capacities including a 64GB CF card, in the Leaf booth (West Hall 4.2, B009) and CFA (Hall 5.1, G-019) at Photokina 2008.

Continuing the revolution in the field of flash memory card speed and capacity, Pretec today releases 64GB and 100GB, 233X CF cards with access speed of up to 35MB/s, overtaking the Pretec 48GB CF card, the previous world’s record holder for highest capacity CF card; and super high speed 333X 32GB and 50GB CF cards capable of running up to 50 MB per second of Read/Write speed, the highest speed CF card in the world.

Pretec CF 233X and 333X CF cards use metal housing and ruggedized construction to provide extensive ruggedness making the card resistant to impact and shock – at least 10 times more durable than a typical CF card. With the green concept of reuse, recycle and reduce in mind, Pretec 64GB CF cards can be configured or reused to make a 256GB SATA or IDE SSD, the highest capacity 2.5” SSD in the world so far, by using Pretec Q-SATA, a patent-pending technology of flexible, scalable and modular SATA/PATA design based on up to 4 CF cards. This technology provides ultimate flexibility and ease of use, especially for those needing both CF cards and SSDs.

Pretec 233X and 333X CF cards will be demonstrated together with high performance digital cameras from Leaf, a business unit of Eastman Kodak and a world-renowned industry leader in providing cutting edge digital photography solutions, whose AFi professional camera was recently awarded “Product of the Year” at the Photoforum exhibition in Russia. The new Leaf AFi-II system delivers the fastest shooting speeds of any camera in its class, with a practically unlimited burst depth.

These speeds are enabled by advanced communication and CF technologies and Leaf Capture software. “Leaf and Pretec share a similar vision –to offer cutting edge technologies and unique products with unparalleled performance and to provide our customers with exceptional quality and satisfaction,” said Seth Greenberg, Leaf Marketing Director. “We are pleased to have chosen Pretec as our exclusive storage partner at Photokina 2008 and to witness the excitement as Pretec breaks the CF card speed and capacity world records.”

Pretec 233X 64GB and 333X 32GB CF cards with suggested retail price of $399 and $630 are slated to start delivery by Photokina 2008, and 233X 100GB and 333X 50GB are expected to start shipping by the end of 2008.

This large aperture standard zoom is considerably more compact than its predecessor, thanks to a brand new optical design which features 14 elements in 12 groups, including three aspherical, one ELD and two SLD elements. The HSM focusing motor promises fast and silent focusing coupled with full-time manual focus, and the minimum focus distance is 38cm allowing a maximum magnification of 1:5.3. The lens will be available in Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony mounts.

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the new 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG HSM. This large aperture standard zoom lens covers focal lengths from 24mm and is housed in compact construction.

The latest optical design provides an overall length of 94.7cm /3.7inch. It is ideal for general photography such as snapshots, portraiture and landscapes. The Super Multi Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting. ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass, two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements and three aspherical lenses provide excellent correction of all types of aberrations.

Superior optical performance is ensured throughout the entire zoom range. This lens incorporates HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), ensuring a quiet and high speed AF as well as full time manual focusing capability. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 38cm/15in and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.3.

The rounded 9 blades diaphragm creates an attractive blur. The smooth 30fps frame rate assures natural-looking movies in both Full HD at 1,920 x 1080 pixels and 4:3 Standard Definition (SD) at 640 x 480 pixels. Whichever you choose, you’ll appreciate the expanded visual possibilities thanks to compatibility with Picture Styles and the full lineup of Canon EF*2 lenses, including super telephoto, micro, fisheye, TS-E, and soft focus lenses.

Should a photo opportunity arise while shooting a movie, simply press the shutter button to capture the moment as a still with exactly the same image quality that is set for normal shooting. A built-in microphone records in monaural while stereo recording is possible via the external microphone input terminal. When it’s time for playback, view your movies on the bright 3-inch LCD monitor or connect the camera directly to an HDTV, standard TV, or computer monitor — the HDMI and A/V OUT interfaces make setup a snap.

> more detail and Sample Movies

This update adds support for SDHC cards (up to 32 GB) as well as adding an Auto-ISO option (a new feature touted for the M8.2). Installation is carried out by dropping the file onto an SD card.

Click here for the Leica M8 downloads page

Firmware version 2.000 - The update adds these improvements to your camera:

Compatibility to memory cards in the SDHC standard up to 32GB capacity.

Note: The choice of SD and SDHC cards in the market is already very big and is constantly growing. Therefore, Leica Camera AG is not able to do comprehensive compatibility- and quality testing with all available cards in the market. We recommend “Extreme III” or “Professional” from the leading brands such as “SanDisk” or “Lexar”. Using other card types, will not damage camera or card, but as especially “no name” cards do not respect the full SD or SDHC standards, Leica Camera AG cannot warranty full function with those cards.

New function “AUTO-ISO” with setting options for maximum ISO values and the slowest shutter speed (please see also instructions for LEICA M8.2 from page 121)

Note: It is not possible to “downdate” LEICA M8 cameras to previous firmware releases, once the version 2.000 has been installed.

Large 6.4µm2 pixels have been redesigned to capture more light and yield a better signal to noise ratio to ensure lower noise images throughout the ISO range. The full frame sensor has the same dimensions as a frame of 35mm film. This means that wide-angle lenses stay wide, without the change in angle of view associated with smaller sensor cameras. As well as benefiting from finer control over depth of field, photographers moving up to the EOS 5D Mark II’s full frame format will find the newly designed wide, bright 98% coverage viewfinder on a joy to work with.

New DIGIC 4 processor
A new DIGIC 4 processor combined with 14-bit analogue to digital conversion provides smooth gradations in mono-tonal areas such as skies, and highly accurate colour rendition. As well as HD movie shooting, DIGIC 4’s high speed provides for long uninterrupted continuous bursts of large JPEGs, near-instant start-up times and immediate and fast review after shooting. DIGIC 4 also provides for improved noise reduction algorithms, complementing the already low noise images from the EOS 5D Mark II’s CMOS sensor.

HD video capture
The EOS 5D Mark II is Canon’s first D-SLR to incorporate full HD 1920x1080 video capture. Once filming is started from Live View mode, photographers can fire off either single of continuous stills, with video capture continuing after the final frame is captured.

See everything
A new 3.0” VGA resolution LCD provides a wide 170º angle-of-view, providing plenty of clarity for accurate focus checks in playback. The screen brightness can automatically adjust to suit viewing conditions, extending battery life in low light and improving viewing in bright conditions. A new dedicated Live View button switches modes to display a real-time image on the LCD. This allows EOS 5D Mark II photographers to enjoy simplified shooting from awkward angles. Simple connection to a PC provides easy remote shooting.

Precision focus and metering
A 9-point auto focus system is supported by 6 additional invisible Assist AF points, located inside the spot-metering circle to optimise subject tracking performance in AI SERVO AF mode. For accurate exposure readings in tricky lighting conditions, the spot metering circle covers just 3.5% of the frame.

Control
The EOS 5D Mark II’s redesigned menu system includes a new Quick Control screen, for instant access to the most commonly changed settings. A new Creative Auto mode allows photographers to cede control of key settings to the camera, while retaining control over creative variables such background blur, drive mode and image brightness. Custom user settings allow photographers to switch between two completely different camera setups. This is ideal for changing quickly between two different environments, such as switching from working inside a church without flash to outdoors with fill-flash at a wedding.

Accessories
Shooting flexibility is enhanced with a range of new accessories. Shooting capacity can be extended with either the high capacity 1800mAh lithium-ion Battery Pack LP-E6, or Battery Grip BG-E6.

A new optional Wireless File Transmitter –
the WFT-E4 – offers external HDD and GPS compatibility along with ability to transmit images direct to computer or FTP server, or operate the camera wirelessly. Both the BG-E6 and WFT-E4 feature a vertical orientation shutter release and other key controls for comfortable portraiture work, with a substantial grip to help balance the camera when used with long lenses.

Technologies Explained:

CMOS
Canon’s CMOS technology is one of the company’s key competitive advantages, with noise reduction circuitry at each pixel site delivering virtually noise-free images. In comparison with CCD technology, the lower power consumption characteristics of Canon’s CMOS sensors also contribute to longer battery life.

Signal conversion in Canon’s CMOS sensors is handled by individual amplifiers at each pixel site. Unnecessary charge transfer operations are avoided, vastly speeding up the process of getting signal to the image processor. Noise generation is reduced, power consumption is limited and faster frame rate potential is increased.

DIGIC
Image data captured by the CMOS sensor is processed by Canon’s purpose-built DIGIC image processors before being written to the camera's memory card. DIGIC technology uses advanced image processing algorithms to ensure precise, natural colours, accurate white balance, and advanced noise reduction. Ultra-fast processing speeds result in highly responsive camera operation and near-instant start-up times.

DIGIC chips work with a high speed DDR-SDRAM image buffer – reading, processing, compressing and writing image data fast enough to keep the buffer clear during long continuous shooting bursts. And because DIGIC integrates all key processing functions, power consumption is kept to a minimum.

EOS Integrated Cleaning System
The EOS Integrated Cleaning System combats sensor dust in three important ways: Reduce, Repel and Remove.

Reduce - Internal camera mechanisms are designed to minimise dust generation. The redesigned body cap prevents dust generation through wear on the cap itself.

Repel - Anti-static technologies, including a special fluorine coating, are applied to the low-pass filter covering the front of the sensor so as not to attract dust.

Remove - A Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit uses hi-frequency vibrations to shake dust from the infrared filter for a period of approximately one second after each start up. For instant shooting after power up, this feature is disabled immediately the shutter release is depressed.

Canon has also developed an internal Dust Delete Data system, which can map the position of visible dust on the sensor. This can then be deleted automatically after the shoot with the latest Digital Photo Professional software.

Picture Style
Picture Style pre-sets simplify in-camera control over image qualities. Picture Style pre-sets can be likened to different film types – each one offering a different colour response. Within each selectable pre-set, photographers have control over sharpness, contrast, colour tone and saturation. The camera’s factory default configuration is set to deliver immediately-usable JPEG images without need for additional menu settings. Picture Style presets applied to a RAW image can be revised with Canon’s Digital Photo Professional software.

The six pre-sets are:

Standard – for crisp, vivid images that don’t require post-processing

Portrait – optimises colour tone and saturation and weakens sharpening to achieve attractive skin tones

Landscape – for punchier greens and blues with stronger sharpening to give a crisp edge to mountain, tree and building outlines

Neutral – ideal for post-processing

Faithful – adjusts colour to match the subject colour when shot under a colour temperature of 5200K

Monochrome – for black and white shooting with a range of filter effects (yellow, orange, red and green) and toning effects (sepia, blue, purple and green).

Software
Digital Photo Professional Software
Digital Photo Professional software provides high speed, high quality processing of lossless RAW images. Processing with Digital Photo Professional allows real-time display and immediate application of image adjustments, giving control over RAW image variables such as white balance, dynamic range, exposure compensation, noise reduction and colour tone – plus the ability to view Auto Focus points on an image. The Lens Aberration correction tool allows precise correction of different types of distortion caused by certain cameras. Images can be recorded in camera with sRGB or Adobe RGB colour space.

Digital Photo Professional supports sRGB, Adobe RGB, ColorMatch RGB, Apple RGB and Wide Gamut RGB colour spaces. ICC (International Colour Consortium) profiles can be attached to TIFF or JPEG images when converted from RAW. This allows faithful reproduction of colours in software applications that support ICC profiles, such as Adobe Photoshop. For improved efficiency, a set of image adjustments can be saved as a recipe and applied.

EOS Utility
The latest version of EOS Utility provides essential support for Live View remote shooting, camera configuration and image transfers. Tightly integrated with Digital Photo Professional, EOS Utility can be configured to monitor ‘hot’ folders, automatically renaming and moving incoming images to a structured file system. Users can also tag their images with EXIF data, including copyright information.

Picture Style Editor
Picture Style Editor allows users to create individual Picture Styles that fit with their personal requirements. Each Picture Style contains detailed information on how specific colours should be represented within an image. Once new Picture Styles have been created, they can be uploaded directly into the camera and applied to JPEG or RAW images. When working with RAW files in DPP, both personal Picture Styles and the 6 predetermined Picture Styles can all be adjusted.

Together with an innovative mirror-less structure that also dramatically downsizes the camera body, the LUMIX G Micro System achieves a dramatic portability and ease of use by an adoption of electronic Full-time Live View Finder instead of conventional optical viewfinder. Nikon's flagship FX and DX-format cameras, the D3 and D300 respectively, established new benchmarks for digital image quality, speed, and unmatched ISO performance. The D700 maintains this new measure with exceptional overall image quality, broad tonal range and depth, and extremely low noise throughout its native ISO range of 200 to 6400. The Nikon D700 is a fusion of astonishing image quality and agility. Leveraging the breakthrough performance of Nikon's original 12.1-Megapixel FX-Format (23.9x36mm) CMOS sensor, teamed with exclusive Nikon EXPEED image processing technology, the D700 delivers astounding image fidelity with incredible sharpness, rich color depth and broad tonal range. Shooting limitations fade with the welcome picture angle characteristics of a 35mm SLR, combined with amazing low-noise performance at up to ISO 6400 and continuous shooting as fast as 5 frames per second. Nikon's exclusive Scene Recognition System boosts several segments of the D700's performance, including its fast, accurate 51-area autofocus system. Precision built to enable photo and camera enthusiasts of all levels of experience to enjoy real photography, introduce yourself to the compact Nikon COOLPIX P6000. Class-leading imaging ability is a feature trait of the P6000. A new 13.5 megapixel image sensor captures the finest details with sharp resolution. A 4x Zoom-NIKKOR lens with ED lens elements covers focal lengths from a wide 28mm (35mm format equivalent), delivering clarity and precision throughout its range. And an optimized processing system based on Nikon's original EXPEED digital image-processing concept quickly delivers quality results with faithful color reproduction and subtle tones. Wired LAN support offers easy access to the Internet for automatic and secure online image storage using the Picture Bank service of my Picturetown, which also provides the ability to send images directly to a blog or other websites. And a new built-in GPS (Global Positioning System) unit can record the location of shots when taken and attach ?geotags? with information about latitude and longitude to each image file. This adds the fun of being able to view the location on maps available in ViewNX or my Picturetown, or to edit or add geotag information. The Photokina 'World of Imaging' Trade Show is held every two years at the Cologne Exhibition Center, Germany. This year will mark the thirtieth Photokina, the first of which was held between 6th and 14th May 1950. Over the years Photokina has been the place manufacturers have announced some of their most significant new products.

The last show, held in 2006, attracted 162,492 visitors (65% of whom were trade) and had no less than 1,579 exhibitors. This year the show will take place between the 23rd and 28th September (10 AM to 6 PM). Announcements of 'Photokina products' is already well underway and began around the beginning of August.

As usual (this will be our fifth Photokina) we will be providing frequent and detailed coverage of product announcements as well as a live 'from the show floor' report which will appear here and subsequent pages during the show.

Photokina 2008 preview / predictions / hopes

Mirrorless Large Sensor Compacts - Perhaps the most exciting thing to happen to the digital camera market in quite some years. We have already seen the Micro Four Thirds announcement and so fully expect to see products from Panasonic and Olympus. Samsung have also stuck their oar in the water and stated that they too are working on a compact system which uses an APS-C size sensor.

Full frame sensors - Full frame sensors - This part of the picture is pretty much complete, however at this Photokina there will be more digital SLRs with full frame (36 x 24 mm) sensors than any previous show, and they will cost much less than they have at any time in the past. It's not inconceivable to think that the future of semi-professional and professional photography will be viewed through a big viewfinder.

DSLR Lenses - Camera resolutions keep getting higher and you can't help feeling that some of the key lenses in certain manufacturer's systems - some of which date back to the days of film - are starting to lag behind and are in urgent need of a refresh. We expect to see more wide range (18-200mm type) lenses for crop cameras and we hope to see the major system manufacturers putting as much effort into lens development as they currently put into camera development.

Compact camera complacency - It pretty much goes without saying that we will see a cohort of slightly re-engineered compact cameras with higher pixel counts, larger screens and multiple-color options but little else to excite the market. It really is time for the manufacturers to sit up and realize that this can't go on for very much longer, the compact market is crying out for some real innovation, and bravery (fewer megapixels, better / bigger sensors, better lenses) in the face of what they (or rather the big buyers) think they we want.

Before during and after the show

This page serves as the index for our final show report and will be the page for you to bookmark for regular updates from now until after the show has finished. This page will be updated live from the show floor during show hours. The 'New Product Index' table below provides a summary of what has been announced including some CES products.

The unfolding story of Photokina 2008

Below you will find the 'New Product Index', this constantly updated list provides a very quick overview of products announced either for or during Photokina. During the show itself this page will also carry an index to our live show report

The most hands-on previews / reviews, anywhere

In the mad run-up to Photokina we've been working very hard to bring you detailed hands-on previews of some of the key cameras at Photokina. This has involved hundreds of hours of work and has one aim; to bring you as much detail as we possibly can. So getting to the most common menu settings in situations where pushing buttons takes time or is difficult is now as fast and easy as a tap on the top, back or sides of the camera. The rugged 10.1-megapixel Stylus 1050 SW is designed to take the hard knocks that everyday life particularly those with kids can throw its way, so you know that the memories it captures will be protected. It can handle five-foot drops to the hard ground, operate in freezing snowstorms, and swim with the fishes lethal conditions for most other digital cameras. Additionally, the Stylus 1050 SW weathers the elements in style with four trendy colors (blue, champagne, silver and black) and a new streamlined body. The sleek, lens-protecting faceplate slides down, turning the camera on and revealing the lens in an instant to capture the moment.

Technical Details

10.1-megapixel image sensor captures enough detail for photo-quality 18 x 24-inch prints

3x optical zoom; wew Tap Control feature for quick, easy programming and results

Waterproof, shockproof, crushproof design

Face Detection and Smile Shot; Perfect Shot Preview and Shadow Adjustment Technology

Stores images on xD Picture Cards or microSD cards (not included)

> more detail Olympus Stylus 1050SW

With a newly developed 3.5-inch LCD monitor featuring a 16:9 widescreen display, the only physical button to press is the shutter - and even that isn't needed when using handy features such as the self-timer or the Smile Timer. The optimized interface offers a choice of three different HOME screens with large icons that make fingertip selection of operating modes and controls easy and accurate. Even the 5x zoom can be controlled via icons on the touch screen. Advanced features include the ability to lock autofocus and exposure on a subject by simply touching the corresponding location on the screen. The camera then follows the subject's movement to ensure sharp focus when the shutter is pressed. And, when used in conjunction with the Portrait One-touch Zoom function available in Portrait or Night Portrait scene modes, one more touch of the screen commands the camera to automatically zoom in and capture the subject with just the right amount of framing.

Technical Details

10.0-megapixel resolution for stunning prints as large as 16 x 20 inches

5x optical Zoom-Nikkor glass lens; Optical VR Image Stabilization

3.5-inch high-resolution touch-panel LCD; customizable touch-panel display

Auto adjusts up to ISO 3200; Shutter and Blink Warning

Captures images to SD/SDHC cards (not included)

> more detail Nikon Coolpix S60
