Very special edition

The Most popular tags section shows the 50 most used tags and clicking on any of them will reveal all tagged wines.

Top Varietals
Before the new search engine it wasn’t possible to search wines by varietal even though that information was always available. Now not only you can search by varietal but we’ve also added a nice list of the top varietals on Adegga.

Latest notes
We’ve also decided to display a list of latest reviews made on wines (instead of always showing the top wines by winerank) to show how alive the community is.

It’s a website and not an application so any mobile enable with Internet access should be able to visit the site.

Filter results

It’s now possible (and fast) to filter down results. Try for example searching for all spanish red wines from 2004.

More result details

Results now include a bigger wine label but also tags and grapes associated with a wine. We’ve also started including the unique wine number, the AVIN, to make it easier to access this number from anywhere.

Advanced search syntax

For the more experienced wine lovers out there the new search also allows to build more complex queries just like Google does. A few examples:

• Wines with Cabernet OR Syrah: Cabernet | Syrah
• Wines with Cabernet but NOT Syrah: Cabernet -Syrah
• Wines with Cima on the name: @name cima
• Wines that match the phase “Cortes de cima”: “Cortes de cima”

Remember that you can always search Adegga directly from your browser (like you do with Google). Just add the Adegga search box using these simple steps.

Hope this makes Adegga even easier to use. Let us know if you find any problems or have suggestions.

The blog exists mostly to talk about what is happening around the community and, for that reason, we feel that members should be able to participate in more integrated way, so we’ve changed a couple of things.

Adegga user accounts
When are you’re logged in on Adegga your comments will be signed with your username and link back to your profile.

Adegga design
The design of the blog is now the same as the main site making it easier to search wines, navigate, etc. without the need to jump to a different site.

We hope this move increases participation on the blog and helps sparkle the discussion within the community.

I would gladly say these words in Nederlands but I can’t. The Dutch version of Adegga was completely translated by Ivan van der Tuuk and finished less than 2 weeks after he first started looking at the translation files. Impressive work.

Ivan lives in the Netherlands and is passionate about wine. He owns an online wine shop so if you’re visiting from the Netherlands be sure to check his wines.

Being a platform for sharing wine we had to create our own short url service and what better than the AVIN (the ISBN for wine) and its domain at avin.cc to be used for this.

Basically our service is limited to the wines on Adegga but for any wine there’s a avin.cc url. The new URLs start with “avin.cc” and should then be followed by a wine’s unique number, an AVIN. For example, the short URL for the wine Cortes de Cima 2004 is: http://avin.cc/AVIN1236103638140

The new URL is available on the sidebar of any wine page to make it easier to share a wine on services like Twitter or Facebook.

It is obviously with great responsibility that we accept the VinTank’s recommendation as company to watch. We’ll continue our work to make Adegga one of the best wine social platforms out there!

VinTank’s Wine Industry Social Media report aims to explore the impact that social networks and social networking tools like Adegga are having on the wine industry.

I’m not going to mention everything that is written about us on the report as you can read it here but I would like to point out some things are think are good examples of the work we’ve been doing.

• Data cleanliness Est. 95% (due to the AVIN): we work very hard on this point. In fact one of the founders is solely responsible for making sure the wine information is correct and the AVIN is doing it’s magic.
• Innovative  and  a  forward  thinking: we are problem solvers focused on the end user. Everything we do is user-centered and aims to solve an existing problem. The solutions that we have come up with reflect exactly that approach and we think there’s still a lot that needs to be done.
• Some Things We Found that Stood Out: a lot of features were stood out in the report: Follow the producer, Activity updates, Social Share, Useful ratings, Who is blogging about this wine, Multi-score ratings, Adding wines, Where to buy, Adegga mobile and some more
• Wine unique coding through the AVIN: the IBSN for wine that we’ve been developing since the beginning of the project is about to enter a use and distribute phase where more people will be able to use it in many different ways. We listen very carefully to the reports feedback and agree that we need to need to collaborate with other entities to solve the problem as a group.
• Extensibility and the API: it’s not a secret anymore that we’ll be making easier to use Adegga information in different ways through our soon to be launched API (application programming interface)
• Multi-language: Adegga is currently available in 4 languages (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese) and we’re working with our members to extend to other languages (next are German and Italian).

This report is one of the first deep looks into wine social media and should be used as a starting point guide into getting yourself acquainted with what is going on.

We’re adding a bunch of ways to make it easier to start have a conversation on Adegga. We’ve just redesigned your homepage (login here) to make it simpler to comment on your friends activity (yes, like you can do on Facebook!)

These comments can be very useful. You can easily ask a question or just thank another user for sharing their opinion and get feedback on that. A true conversation.
