Yes please. Tried this tonight and it was amazing. Wish I could remember where I adapted the recipe from.

2-3 lbs - pork roast @ 375 degrees oven for 1 hour or 140 degrees inside the meat (whichever comes first)

—-

For the mix (Mix together in a bowl then rub over pork, cover the whole thing!)

3 Tbsp - Coffee Beans (ground for espresso)

1/2 cup - Brown Sugar

1/2 Tbsp - Cayenne pepper

1/2 Tbsp - Salt

1/2 Tbsp - Black pepper

2-3 Cloves Garlic / Minced

1/2 Tsp - Smoked Paprika

Enjoy!

MimiGlyphs. So yum. Must try. I did this recipe by hand,...

MULTIGRAIN BREAD

So yum. Must try. I did this recipe by hand, no fancy bread makers or $300 mixers. Have fun with it, if you try it, come back and let me know!

INGREDIENTS (makes 2 loaves)

 * 1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast (two 1/4-ounce envelopes)

 * 2 1/4 cups plus 2 tablespoons warm water (110 degrees)

 * 3 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons honey

 * 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus more for bowl and pans

 * 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for surface and dusting

 * 2 3/4 cups whole-wheat flour

 * 1 cup rye flour

 * 2 tablespoons coarse salt

 * 1 1/3 cups cooked wheat berries

 * 1/2 cup rolled oats, plus 2 tablespoons for topping

 * 1/2 cup flaxseed, plus 1 tablespoon for topping

 * 1/3 cup sunflower seeds plus, 2 tablespoons for topping

 * 1 large egg white

 * Nonstick cooking spray

DIRECTIONS

1. In a small bowl or liquid measuring cup, sprinkle yeast over 1/2 cup water. Add 2 teaspoons honey. Whisk until yeast dissolves. Let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes

2. Transfer to the bowl of a mixer fitted with the dough hook. Add butter and remaining 1 3/4 cups plus 2 tablespoons water and 3 tablespoons honey. Whisk together all-purpose, whole-wheat, and rye flours with salt; add 3 cups to yeast mixture. Mix on low speed until smooth. Add remaining 3 1/4 cups flour mixture, 1 cup at a time. Add wheat berries, bulgur, 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup flaxseed, and 1/3 cup sunflower seeds; mix on low to combine. Continue mixing until dough comes away from sides of bowl and forms a ragged, slightly sticky ball.

3. Butter a large bowl. Knead dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic but still slightly tacky, about 5 minutes. Shape into a ball. Transfer to prepared bowl; cover with plastic wrap.

4. Let dough stand in a warm place until it doubled in volume (it should not spring back when pressed), about 1 hour. Butter two 4 1/2-by-8 1/2-inch loaf pans. Punch down dough and divide in half.

5. Working with one piece of dough at a time, shape into a 7-by-7-inch square. Fold dough into thirds; press seam to adhere and pinch ends to seal. Place seam side down in loaf pan. Repeat process with remaining piece of dough.

6. In a small bowl, mix egg white with 1 teaspoon water and brush mixture over tops of loaves; sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons rolled oats, remaining 1 tablespoon flaxseeds, and remaining 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds.

7. Spray two pieces of plastic wrap with nonstick cooking spray; drape loaves with prepared plastic wrap and let stand until dough rises about 1 inch above tops of pans, 45 minutes to 1 hour.

8. Uncover loaves and transfer to oven. Pre-heat to 375. Bake, rotating pans after 20 minutes, until tops are golden brown and internal temperature reaches 205 degrees on an instant-read thermometer, about 45 minutes total. Transfer to wire racks. Let cool slightly; turn out loaves. Let cool completely before slicing.

New app ‘Oink’ by Kevin Rose’s team at Milk...

New app ‘Oink’ by Kevin Rose’s team at Milk Inc. did a great job on their first release. Nothing can come close to getting out of the house and grabbing some coffee and oatmeal at your local store but now there’s an alternative.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 tablespoons light brown sugar

2 tablespoons of chopped nut mix (see below for preparation)

1/2 cup of dry quick oats (Quaker tastes the closest)

3/4 cup boiled water

Preparation:

1. Take an even amount of Pecans, Almonds and Walnuts and chop them up using a chopper or grinder. You can store the mix in a plastic tub for many days of eating oatmeal :)

2. Once the water is boiling, take 3/4 cup and pour over 1/2 cup dry quick oats.

3. Stir then let sit for 1-2 minutes

4. Pour in the remaining ingredients

5. Enjoy!

Yes, AeroPress makes amazing coffee.

Since returning from my trip to Italy, coffee (or espresso) has not tasted the same. While I was there my daily drink of choice was a Cafe’ Macchiato (espresso with a little milk and amazing foam). In the states, they make a Macchiato a bit differently, espresso with just foam).

I was an every day drinker of Starbucks because it was easy and let’s be honest, I’m not a morning person…so to make a cup of good coffee before I am awake is really hard.

Until I met the AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker.

(I know, looks weird but trust me, it’s awesome)

Pros:

Amazing coffee in under 60 seconds

Cheap

Easy cleanup

No grittiness like my french press

Smooth taste

Light & compact, easy to travel with (bonus points for me on that)

Cons:

If you’re looking for real Espresso, it won’t produce nice froth but will make a really strong ‘Espresso like’ cup of coffee.

Everyone is different but I’ve included my process for making a great strong cup!

Rinse the paper filter with hot water

2 scoops of Illy (scoop from the kit) *I used Illy’s espresso dark blend (fine grind) and plan to experiment with Lavazza. I enjoy both brands of beans.

180 degree water

fill water to #3

stir vigorously for 10 seconds

press down slowly until you hear air (about 8 seconds)

drink/repeat! Add more hot water if it’s too strong for your taste.

If you are absolutely against using paper filters (after rinsing, I couldn’t taste the filter), check out this Coava Disk.

Buy it from Amazon.

If you can help spread the word, please do.

Two weeks ago I got a call from my doctor, who I’d gone to see the day before because I’d been feeling worn out and was losing weight, and wasn’t sure why.

He was brief: “Amit, you’ve got Acute Leukemia. You need to enter treatment right away.”

I was terrified. I packed a backpack full of clothes, went to the hospital as he’d instructed, and had transfusions through the night to allow me to take a flight home at 7am the next day. I Googled acute leukemia as I lay in my hospital bed, learning that if it hadn’t been caught, I’d have died within weeks.

—

I have a couple more months of chemo to go, then the next step is a bone marrow transplant. As Jay and Tony describe below, minorities are severely underrepresented in the bone marrow pool, and I need help.

A few ways to help:

If you’re South Asian, get a free test by mail. You rub your cheeks with a cotton swab and mail it back. It’s easy.

If you’re in NYC, you can go to this event my friends are putting on.
