Award-winning architecture and interior design practice, Jestico + Whites, which has offices in both London and Prague has designed the Hotel Villa Honegg project. Completed in 2013, the luxury five-storey chalet style hotel can be found in Switzerland.

The hotel was originally built in 1905 in the Scandinavian ‘Gustavian’ style. Its facades have been restored by local craftsman to ensure its survival for another century or more.

Sitting at an altitude of almost 1,000 metres on Mount Bürgenstock, the exclusive resort provides a peaceful haven and magnificent views across Lake Lucerne.

Hotel Villa Honegg is a luxurious private retreat with 23 suites and guestrooms, spa, fine-dining restaurant, conference facilities and a cinema-quality screening room. An outdoor infinity pool and whirlpool has stunning views over the lake and mountains.

Jestico + Whiles’ design for the interiors were inspired by the breathtaking scenery in which the hotel is set. Rich timber and stone have been combined with silk and leather in natural colours to create a comfortable, contemporary environment. This is complemented by carefully selected, hand-crafted furniture finished in classic leathers and elegant, timeless fabrics.  Every finish has been carefully chosen for its inviting appearance and texture, grain, pile, and weave, to provide a tactile quality to each surface.

London-based product and interior designer, Lee Broom, has designed the new Christian Louboutin boutique for luxury London department store Harrods.

The Louboutin store is housed within Harrods’ eveningwear department, and according to Broom, the designs are inspired by the city of London, in which the store is located.

Broom’s concept  captures  the spirit of Christian Louboutin whilst giving the space a quintessentially British twist. The store celebrates Louboutin’s theatricality, offering the customer a unique shopping experience.

Famous buildings such as the fanned archway entrance of the Covent Garden Opera House, to the clockface of Big Ben and the tiled mosaics of the London Underground have been reinterpreted.

Broom, who studied fashion at Central Saint Martins, said: “It has been an honour to design the new store for Christian Louboutin in Harrods. I have always been a huge admirer of his work and I am delighted to be designing this space in one of the most famous department stores in the world. I have enjoyed drawing on my fashion background and creating a magical space that has a real sense of drama and escapism.”

The shop front is reminiscent of a stage set design, creating a feeling of suspended reality. The sense of drama continues inside as Louboutin’s signature style is seen through the use of  the classic  red carpet and beautiful arched niches in which the shoe collections are presented. Whilst creating a contemporary space, Broom  draws on the traditional architecture of Harrods, keeping the moulded staccato detailed ceiling which immediately gives the store a sense of grandeur.

This week, one of UK’s biggest contemporary design festival will fling open its doors to collectors, curators and the otherwise curious in their thousands in London, England.

The three-day festival will welcome more than 150 designers and manufacturers from Britain and across the globe, as they showcase their latest designs against the extraordinary backdrop of historic Clerkenwell.

Clerkenwell Design Week is now in its fourth year, the event has increasingly become a must go-to showcase for the UK and international design community.

This year shows some wonderful examples of fresh, colourful new designs being shown for the first time at Clerkenwell Design Week.  With Clerkenwell’s  rich  history of bringing the design industry together, the festival is the perfect platform for companies to showcase their new products.

Alongside the innovations shown by the festival’s many exhibitors and showrooms, Clerkenwell Design Week will present a series of curated installations and exhibitions under the banner Clerkenwell Presents. Challenging and inspiring the design community and visitors alike, these attractions have become an integral part of the three-day event, together with the Fringe events hosted by the numerous architectural, design and creative practices that make Clerkenwell the most important creative district in the UK.

As statement accessorising becomes increasingly clichéd, bold and expressive flooring, wall coverings and  surface  materials  are  a  leading  trend for 2013. Clerkenwell enjoys a plethora of showrooms at the forefront of this sector. The  stunning Domus Tiles showroom on Great Sutton Street will play host to Patricia Urquiola and her new tile range Azulej.

 Vitamin Living

Since Vitamin was set up in 2005 its mission has been to produce designs which are more than just a little out of the ordinary. These Knot Lamps are just awesome. The lamps come in two different designs of hand blown glass shade each supported by a monkey fist knot. The knots are tied from brightly coloured cable in a selection of 5 colours.

Berlin-based architectural practice, J. Mayer H. Architects, have designed the Ols House project. Completed in 2011, the home features a beautiful sculptural staircase. The property belongs to family in Stuttgart, Germany.

According to the architects: “The new house is on a plot of land near Stuttgart, on a hillside with a generous view of the valley. The owners wanted a new home that would bring this view to life even inside of the building. The house is in a residential area with conventional developments, most of which date from the 1960s.

“The new,  four person family home is divided into an elevated ground floor with entrance area, utility room and spa, and a second floor with an open, flowing floor plan containing the living, dining and kitchen areas. Full-height glazing provides a free view of the valley and terrace looking over the garden area.

“Upstairs are the sleeping areas, dressing rooms and bathrooms. The central design element is a sculptural staircase that connects all three levels.

“The property was built as a reinforced concrete construction. The facade consists of one heat-insulating compound system and an aluminum and glass facade. Slats and anti-glare sheeting provide integrated sun protection, protecting it against heat.

“All of the lightweight partition walls inside are made of drywall. The floor is a seamless layer of screed. The roof with the deep, recessed balcony was built with pre-weathered zinc plate cladding and is fitted with solar panels. Outdoor paved areas were realised as tartan surfaces.”

Adelto loves the interior design of this contemporary property. The property has a very clinical but cool feel to it. We do have a predilection for this sort of German design.
