Basically, Hidayah Centre was established to help people who embrace Islam as their religion. Hidayah Centre provide support for them who have problem with their families.

In this blessing month of Ramadhan, Hidayah Centre will organize Majlis Iftar Perdana Hidayah Centre or majlis berbuka puasa to celebrate the first time fasting experience.

This year, MIPHC will be conducted in Penang, Sabah and Putrajaya. This event will be held in Putrajaya on 28th August 2010. We are looking for contribution from companies to buy tables for this dinner.

I offered my help to create a montage for this event in Penang. So check it out.

Let’s do our part in promoting Islam to the non-Muslim in Malaysia.

From this map, I can see all the locations that I’ve checked-in for the past few months. You can see that most of the check-ins are in Keramat and some in my workplace in Taman Sri Hartamas.

The interface is simple and awesome. However I’m expecting more features to be developed in the future.

The good thing about this map is that you can set the privacy. Social media stuff can make or break our life if we don’t care about protecting our privacy. I’d like to remind you guys to read this entry as well, How I became a Foursquare Cyberstalker.

I do have something similar in my mind about location-based application. I’m looking for any freelance web developer who are willing to contribute in this project.

From the Kiblat Walk

This is the starting point of the exhibition booth in Kiblat Walk. Kiblat Walk is a bridge between Kompleks Perbadanan Putrajaya and the mosque.

All participating university exhibits their products on the left side while government bodies are on the right. IIUM booth is the first one!

Then I came across Kementerian Dalam Negeri booth and I was curious to ask about the non-certified Quran. Apparently after I visit the booth, more people are also interested to check the display.
Among them are Quran with wrong page order, Quran printed on a calendar paper and many more.

These are some apparel that have Allah name as part of the pattern.

This is Almuneer Quran Device. I’ve seen the printed version of this product in IIUM last year. According to the officer, locally it is distributed by Darulfikir. It cost more than RM3400++ [source]

At the Sahn in the mosque

Approaching the mosque, this is the view from the audience canopy. The main stage and the audience is separated by the crystal clear pond.

Moving on, there are exhibitions from private sectors including Tabung Haji, TM Unifi, Islamic banking and finance, NGO and many more.

Anyway, I’m sorry for the low quality of the pictures. I forgot to bring my digital camera. However I regretted that there are some female exhibitors that don’t cover their aurat in the mosque area. I hope the organizer can observe into this matter for the next carnival.

Well, there are lots of activites during this carnival and exhibition. Please note that the exhibition will be open through out the whole carnival from 10am to 10pm.

Exhibition from goverment sectors will be held at Kiblat Walk while the private sectors will be held at Sahn Masjid Tuanku Mizan.

Why you should come?

This is the nearest event near Kuala Lumpur. Previously, the same carnival has been conducted in Perlis, Terengganu. So, this is an opportunity not to be missed.

When I was studying industrial design, I enjoy going to IKEA in Mutiara Damansara to get some ideas and inspirations. This is one of the place where you can get creative and unique product design for your home.

In this entry, I’ll showcase 15 useful IKEA products and some story behind it.

1. FEJS clock

This is one of the oldest clock that we bought at the first IKEA store in Bandar Utama. It is placed in the dining area and it still ticks!

2. VALLO Watering can

Now we use it to place the TV antenna. Sometime when we rearrange the antenna, we will get a zap of electricity, so the plastic material is very useful to prevent the shock.

3. BOHOLMEN Dish drain

Easy way to hold your dish upright to drain the water after you have washed your plates.

4. Blue tray

We already have lots of tray and this one is just an addition during open house or any small family functions.

5. Plastic stool

This is the original design. The latest one is a stool with a compartment inside it.

6. Standing Lamp

It has two pendant lamp inside and nicely placed in a corner of a living room.

7. BRADA laptop support

I bought it for my sister since she also have laptop. Its quite comfortable since the heat from the laptop won’t be transfered to you lap.

8. Orange Shoe Cabinet

It is not only for shoes, because I still remember a lecturer used it outside his room for students to submit their assignments.

9. LERAN pendant lamp

Free standing reading lamp.

10. Window Blinds

I bought it for my hostel room but when I no longer stayed in hostel, I take it back home and placed it at the dining area.

11. SKUBB vertical storage compartment

I put it near the entrance as an indoor shoe and slipper rack.

12. Multi use hanger

Very useful for my mum’s scarfs and tudung.

13. RAST – chest of 3 doors

Waiting to be disposed. Currently left outside the house. Still strong & sturdy.

14. Easy apple cutter

It simply separate the seeds and slice the apple into 8 parts.

15. Plastic Trolley Storage

Portable storage for bedroom.

IKEA Hacker’s blog

This blog teaches how to use IKEA products creatively to suit our home and need. Visit IKEA Hacker.

The conclusion is, most of the IKEA products that we have is just accessories. IKEA furnitures are affordable and suit for all walks of life. Purchasing stuff at IKEA is very tempting. Spend wisely!

Sometimes, people will update their status either in Facebook or Twitter their whereabouts. “I’m at Midvalley” or “I’m Home” so that their friends may know where he or she is at the moment.

The geo-location and geo-tagging technology

Soon after the advent of GPS and when internet has developed the geolocation and tracking system via smartphone revolution, it is easier for developers to come up with a tracking someone. I’m not sure how does it works but that’s the main idea that I’ve understand. Oh by the way, Feedjit is one way to track where you came from.

What is Foursquare?

If people connects via Facebook profiles & Twitters, brands and companies have Facebook pages and Twitters, then how about places and locations? It is Foursquare that connects between the people and places in real life! You may ‘Like’ some brand but if you’ve been at one of their premises or branches, then the connection for me is better.

How to use Foursquare?

Simple! Just create your account and download the apps for your iPhone, Blackberry or any Android phone. Then you can link your Facebook and Twitter accounts. Actually, I don’t own any of these smart phones yet. So I’ll just log into their mobile version to check-in.

Check-in means that you want to update your status that right now, you’re here! Every check-ins will be rewarded with points and badges. I think this is where Foursquare is addictive for some users.

However, according to the FAQ, you have to be at there physically. Not just passing by. I can see that some mayors and badges collectors will check-in despite they are just passing by.

Earning badges

The screenshot below shows the badges that I’ve collected and venues with my mayorship. If you’re not logged in using Foursquare account, you won’t see the list of mayorship.

Why I use Foursquare?

I use Foursquare just for my own personal need. I usually will not inform my location to Facebook and Twitter. There’s some serious issue with this. Besides that, by checking in to these places, I can have my own personal record on where I’ve been.

Its easy for me to write on my diary. If you feel you just want to check in without letting your friends know, you can opt for ‘Hide My Location’.

Why I become mayor?

Basically Mayorship will be rewarded for people who check in most number of the day. For a new venue, you have to check in at least twice to get the mayorship.

Basically, I want to become a mayor because I want to edit the venue details such as the address and other contact details. In addition, I want to add more mosque as the places in Foursquare.

So far, its easy for me to become mayor at the mosques within my area. You also can try it too. By introducing the mosque and check-ins two times in a week, you can become a mayor as well.

Disadvantages

Foursquare is competing with another location-based media including Gowalla, Google Latitude to name a few. Based on a study, it is only 1% people using it. So, its not really a good marketing approach at the moment. [via]

Besides that, there are multiple names of a certain venue. I wonder why people simply add the venue to the directory without searching for the listed option first? For instance in the list of mosques, there are three venues for Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan, two venues for Masjid Mu’adz Bin Jabal Setiawangsa and two for Masjid As-Sobirin.

This is just a few example of duplicated venue. Foursquare should have attend to this matter to make it fair & square.

Conclusion

Well, that’s it for this week. There are many advantages and disadvantages in using Foursquare and other social media and location based media nowadays. Another interesting article that you should read is How I became a Foursquare cyberstalker. After giving it a thought, I know I have to be more careful in sharing information on the internet.

When I trace the date, I remembered that I was using the card before I’m filling the fuel for my bike. Usually I will fill from RM3 to RM5.

When I login to Maybank2U, instead of RM5, they have deducted RM200. To make thing worst, I used the card twice when I’m filling up for my bike. Please refer to the screenshot here.

MAYBANK HAS DEDUCTED RM400 FROM MY ACCOUNT AND I DON’T HAVE MUCH LEFT!

On 12th July, they deducted RM200. On 15th July, they deduct another RM200. They only refund the RM200 on 17th July. From here, it shows that Maybank will refund the RM200 pre authorize debit between 3-5 days.

The moral of the story is, don’t use Debit Card when filling up petrol at the petrol pump. Better use cash or pay with debit card at the counter.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you step by step to install the mapping software, MapSource. It is an official software from Garmin. Next, we install the map from Malfreemaps and view it with MapSource. Alright, let’s get started.

Downloading source files

1. Go to Garmin website. Choose Support and Software from the menu.
2. Select Mapping Programs from the list.
3. Choose MapSource. The latest version when I write this blog is 6.16.2
4. Click Download. Save it in your Downloads folder. We will change the folder later.

5. You can download the map while waiting to download MapSource. There are two main map contributors in Malaysia which are Malsingmap and Malfreemaps. Let’s go to Malfreemaps.
6. In the forum, go to Downloads – Free Public Download. Then open thread Topic – Free Malaysia & Singapore GPS Map: MFM-Garmin 100628a.

7. There is a bunch of download links. I’ll select the first one which has EXE/RAR version. Download map here.

8. The file is hosted at Google Docs. So you simply click download and don’t worry because there’s no virus.

Installing the map

9. Once the file has been downloaded, you can run MFM-Garmin-100628a.exe. Just follow the setup as shown in the screenshot below.

10. Choose Custom Polygons & POIs (For uploading to Nuvis/Streepilots/MobileXT)

11. When prompted ‘Do you wish to create a gmapsupp.img?’, choose No. That’s it for the map installation part.

Installing Mapsource

12. Copy the Mapsource file from into Garmin folder. It should be under ‘C:/Garmin/’
13. Don’t click on the file. It is a compressed file so you should extract it as shown below. Choose ‘Extract to MapSource_6162\

14. Once all the file has been extracted, go into the MapSource_6162 folder and select MSMAIN. It will take some time to install the software.


15. There will be no notification mentioning that the installation has finished. So you can simply go to Start – All Programs – Garmin – MapSource and you are now ready to navigate the map from your PC!
