Salam. We are still discussing about the mosque and surau design in Malaysia. Previously, I shared about my 10 most visited mosque and surau. Based on my observation, they shared common problems in term of architecture and interior design. Let’s see one by one.

1. Layout
There are few mosque and surau which has been expanded and renovated from their original design to cater the growing number of Muslim in the area. However, some of the renovation was conducted by contractors, they are not really keen on the circulation. These renovation led to a confusion of circulation for the first timer. I don’t like it when I have to walk around the mosque looking for the restroom and ablution area. Maybe some direction signage should be installed inside these mosque.

2. Orientation inside the Ablution area
Inside the ablution area, there are few number of mosque which don’t make the wall of pipes facing the qiblat. It is a sunnah to take ablution while facing the qiblat.

View more pictures taken at Sultan Mizan Mosque, Putrajaya.

3. Orientation of the Toilet
Some mosque or surau, once renovated, will experience odd orientation inside the toilet. It is makruh for Muslim to use WC while facing qiblat and that’s why some of the WC was rotated 90 degree. Users will find it hard to use the squat toilet while facing the wall. (Source)

4. Ventilation
Malaysia is a hot and humid country. Therefore, most of the mosque should have good ventilation to ensure the comfort of the user. However, most of the mosque was designed without proper ventilation and it causes the user to sweat especially in the afternoon. Some mosque or surau even installed air conditions to provide thermal comfort.

5. Acoustic
Last but not least, most of the big mosque will have the acoustic problem. This happen because the large prayer hall with brick walls causes noise and echoes. Its difficult to listen to the sermon with poor setting of the PA system inside the hall. However, most of the mosque manage to solve this issue by investing in good microphones and speakers.

These are the five common problems that I’ve been thinking about. Again, these are just my observation on the older mosque and surau. Some of the modern and latest mosque design has taken care of these problems.

Salam. Introducing my new blog theme, Binafsha 2.0. Its a tweaked design from the Binafsha 1.0 which is my previous theme. I call it Binafsha 2.0 because it still has the same colour scheme, purple with various shades.

Before we go any further, let’s see how Binafsha 1.0 looks like. I uses WP Framework for this design.

For Binafsha 2.0, I uses Whiteboard framework with major arrangement. You can see they have same color scheme and overall layout.

This theme was inspired from many design blogs out there. I also had experimented few new features in this design.

What’s New?

Typekit – You can see in the blog title. Its not a web standard font but it gives new feel about the blog.

New fonts collection – Header uses Myriad Pro, the title uses Sovba and the content uses Lucida Sans Unicode

960 grid system – I want to make the blog shorter (less scrolling) and that’s where vertical sidebar took place

Big fat footer – using the 960 grid system, I put many stuff down there to allow important ones on the sidebar

Innity ads – replacing the old good Nuffnang

Experiment with CSS3 – Put few text-shadow, rounded corners and box shadows.

New comment section – everything is aligned!

Why I redesign?
There are few reason why redesigning the whole theme is crucial. The first reason is to improve the loading time. Previously, there are too many unnecessary items here and there. So I’ve decided to design it purposely for improving my loading time. These are the comparison of the loading time for both themes.

Second is to motivate my to write shorter post, as I don’t really read long post (more than 300 words). So I just reduced the font size and surprisingly, its easier to read with less scrolling!

I designed a homepage with thumbnails & excerpt is also to improve the loading time. Based on my statistics, for the past 3 months, most of the visitors came from search engine and they read my post page only, about 80%. While those who visited the homepage are 19%. Since its hard to know which entry do the read, I revert back to excerpt with thumbnails layout. Only 3% visit my About, Portfolio & Contact page.

I guess that’s it for today. I’ll post more creative ideas in the future. Been busy with few works recently.

P/S – Am I a speed addict?

Every Muslim are encourage to perform congregational prayers at mosque. For the past three years, I’ve been coming to these mosque few times. Let’s see which is my most visited most, begin with the number 10.

10. Surau An-Nur Lebuh Nipah, Pulau Pinang
During my internship in Penang, this is the closest surau which is located 500 meters from BJ Complex. I will always miss the friendly qariah over there.

9. Masjid Al-Malik Khalid, USM, Pulau Pinang
During my internship in Penang in 2008, I frequently visit this mosque for Friday prayers and some Tarawikh prayers too. Credit picture.

8. Masjid Sobirin, AU5 Keramat
This mosque is located in a neighborhood area of Taman Keramat AU5. Sometimes I pass this area while I’m running errands between home and Melawati.

7. Masjid Al-Akram, Dato’ Keramat

This mosque is located in Kg. Dato Keramat, about 500 meters from Dato Keramat LRT station. There’s a good dining place, Gelas Besar and Nasi Ayam stall opposite the mosque. I come to this mosque for Friday prayers since I’m working near Sunway for the past six months. Located opposite of the lion/sphinx statue of Sunway Pyramid.
5. Surau An-Naim, Seksyen 5, Wangsa Maju
I have been following Ustaz Hasrizal since last year and he used to conduct monthly kuliah maghrib in this surau. Check their blog here.

4. Masjid Al-Muttaqin, Wangsa Melawati
This mosque is located strategically near MRR2 at the Wangsa Melawati exit, behind the Petronas station. I will pass this mosque everytime I go to IIUM. It also has sekolah agama.

3. Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque, IIUM

This is my favourite mosque during my study in IIUM. Eventhough there are musolla/surau in most faculties, I prefer to perform my prayer here because of its unique experience. It has good example of natural ventilation. Credit photo archiprezmosis

2. Masjid Muadz Bin Jabal, Setiawangsa
Strategically located near Keramat Permai business centre and Setiawangsa LRT, this mosque has sekolah rendah agama and a hall at the basement. It is the second closest mosque to my house. I use to come here once a week. The mosque was repainted last year from cool colors into earth colors scheme. Check the website here.

1. Masjid Al-Ansar, Taman Keramat

It is located in Taman Keramat AU2 and it is the closest mosque to my house. I’ve been here since I was a small kid and lot of memorable experience, such as playing Tamiya cars during Tarawikh, dragging my bicycle home (because I’ve lost the key) and participating as Qurban committee.

Well, each mosque has its own identity, qariah and unique experience. Whenever I travel to a new place, I’ll make sure to perform prayer in the local mosque before I continue my journey. This is not a tagging entry, but you are also encourage to share your most visited mosque in your blog.

P/S – wish to visit Masjidil Haram in near future!

Salam. Have you noticed some people surfing internet and social networking at cafes for hours? But how if they are actually doing work from there? The cafe is their office?

During my study in IIUM, there was a Design Methodology class with Mr. Jazman. In the final project, we were assigned to present the concept of future office. That is when I’ve started my research on mobile office.

Among the few things that I still can remember about predicting the future working lifestyle is the usage of all-in-one product. Some of my colleague even propose a vehicle (imagine a caravan) with all the facilities you need at office such as printer, fax, copier, workstation etc.

Well, as my lecturer favourite line, ‘Future is Now’. I’ve stumbled upon this local website, OfficeKami which practices mobile office concept in their working lifestyle.

After four years since that class, I can see that people are heading towards that direction. Wireless technology is making everything mobile and it makes people work faster and becoming more productive.

Personally, I do have my netbook if I want to get my job done out there. But as a designer, I really feel the need to work with large screen. Anyway, when there’s a will, there’s a way. That’s for now. Will discover more interesting topic soon.

Business owners who have online catalogs are quick to discover, whether through research or trial-and-error, product library management plays a huge part in market success. There is no secret that if someone cannot navigate your site, they probably aren’t going to buy from you.

So, what is product library management? In essence, it is nothing more than product data management, only the product data is categorized and mapped into basically a usable virtual library.

This catalog library maps the products, matching them into specific categories and pairing them with their proper manufacturers. By doing this, the website can be designed to help the consumer find similar products that fall under the same category or same manufacturer.

Managing the product data allows content writers to use search engine optimization (SEO) to better market the product. Moreover, since the product data includes the product prices, by having them all entered into a database, price comparisons can be made available to consumers. By allowing consumers to compare similar products on your site, they are more likely to buy from that site, because they will feel they had the chance to make an informed decision.

For your marketing, use product library management service providers that have proven themselves leaders in online catalog processing. Product data management is an inescapable part of providing online catalogs to your customers. Some business people will still try to tackle these jobs on their own, and while some will do a quasi-good job at it, the majority will have simply wasted valuable time and money.

Salam. Welcome back to the public transportation issue. Last time, I’ve discussed 10 things about KTM Komuter and in this entry, let me share on one important point, which is the new schedule or timetable.

When I want to buy the ticket, I picked up the pamphlet at the ticket counter. It is the timetable for the Komuter train service. So, while waiting for my train to arrive at the station, I try to read and understand the time table. This timetable is released on 1st November 2009.
The table is quite large and it has lots of numbers.
Luckily, Transitmy just released the new timetable for KTM Komuter on their website just in time before I’m going to write about this. Its kinda weird because the timetable is not available in KTMB website itself.

I don’t want to teach you how to read the table, but my main concern is only on my traveling time and the train. This is the time table for the Bank Negara station.

This is the timetable for Setia Jaya station, which is useful when I’m going back from work. I forgot to mention that the train in brown column is the Limited Stop train, which will stop at certain stations only.

In conclusion, it shows that Komuter train is quite reliable because I don’t have to waste my time waiting. Instead, I can plan my journey either going to office or going back. No more rushing for uncertain train time like I used to do for the past six months.

Accessibility at KTM Komuter station
In the latest timetable, they also have indicated the wheelchair user icon, which symbolizes the accessibility of the station. It looks like they need to work hard to provide more facilities for the disabled. From my observation, more disabled people (OKU) are using Komuter rather than RapidKL LRT. Is it just me or do you notice it too?

P/S – I still remember watching Bourne Supremacy, on how Bourne can read the schedule at a glance during the police pursuit in Berlin.

Salam. Last week, Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak has launched ‘Malaysia Inovatif 2010′ with the tagline, ‘Innovative Leadership for 1United, Innovative Malaysia.’

This is one of the historical moment for Malaysia in gearing towards the vision 2020, which is less than 10 years from now.

With the theme of ‘Celebrating Creativity’, which is quite inline with my blog’s tagline, ‘Innovating Creative Minds’, it is my hope to see Malaysia especially Malaysian can become creative and innovative nation in the world. Its time to show the world that Malaysia also can become as good as the Japan or even the European.

According the their website, Malaysia Inovatif portal, some activities will be organized including roadshows and exhibition throughout the year, which are:

Northern region (Kangar, Perlis) : 27-28 February 2010

Sabah (Keningau) : 24-25 April 2010

East Coast (Kuala Terengganu) : 19-20 June 2010

Southern region (Pagoh, Johor) : 7-8 August 2010

Sarawak (Sibu) : 16-17 October 2010

Central (Melaka) : 13-14 November

Program Jiran Muda Sabah dan Sarawak : 17-18 June 2010

Young Creative ASEAN Program : September 2010

1Malaysia Innovation Tournament : 21-30 August 2009 (Youtube)

Festival Malaysia Inovatif : 24-27 November 2010

Lots of events this year. Mark your calendar guys! Its time to get creative and innovative this time. Let’s put on your thinking hat and create something cool! I bet university students and even local private companies with R&D departments will have something new to show.

All we need is a really creative idea, before we can commercialize and contribute for the society well being.

First of all, I welcome and appreciate the idea of Selangor state government initiative in introducing ‘No Plastic Bag Day’ on every Saturday starting January 2010 in supermarket and participating premises.

This is truly the first step to educate the people to reduce the usage of plastic bag besides being eco-friendly nation. Its going to take some time before people can accept the green living concept. I hope KL will also participate in this campaign, but isn’t it better to make it everyday rather than Saturdays? During my study, we have been told to include the green concept in our design. I know its going to be a benchmark comparing with other products.

I also want to make my life greener as I want to start with 2010 as the year of green living lifestyle. For products design, there are lots of thing that we can apply to make it more eco-friendly. But how about the designer or an organisation? So, there have to be few action that I can follow.

1. Reduce the usage of air condition
That’s the use of Smart Saver and Timer of the aircond. I won’t be using air cond throughout the night. I will just set it for 1 hour, and the remaining, I’ll only use ceiling fan. Cooler temperature will consume more power, so I’ll just set the aircond above 24-26 celcius.

2. Use both side of paper, for print or scribbles
I have a lot of papers in my room and I will not trash them away unless both side has fully occupied/scribbled. Even for printing purpose, for draft whatsoever, there’s no harm for printing on both side.

3. Switch off computer whenever leaving the room
I use to have the habit like leaving the computer on or in standby mode. If I leave the room for lunch or dinner, I’ll make sure to turn it off.

4. Use white background on website design
A research has been done and it prove that LCD monitors requires less power to display white than black background. For CRT bulky monitors, its different where white requires more power. Alright, I’ll change my theme design soon.

5. Go paperless
In today’s world, the technology and internet allow us to go paperless which mean everything can be done online with soft copies. There are email, calendars, chatting, ebook and most of them can be save inside the computer. However, only important documents need to be printed. Always observe and think whether you should print or just email the document.

6. Donate or sell no longer used item
There’s a lot of junks in my room. I can donate or give it to the needy. Its going to be such a waste. Its also one way to exercise amal jariah.

7. Be creative with no longer used item
This is not going to be that hard, during my study years, I’ve always collect unused item to be integrated into my design. I will try to post some photos if I have done some creative project soon. At least five by years end!

These are the seven things that I can try to practice. There’s a lot more but let’s start with something simple first, right?

P/S – can’t wait for Earth Hour 2010 on March 27!

This photo was submitted to Thumbnails at The Star newspaper on 13th January 2010. I’m not sure where the exact place of this guard house. This is a direct design imitation yet it is a creative approach.

Pangkor Island jetty
Recently when I went to Pangkor Island in Perak, I’ve noticed this new landmark at the jetty. I’m not sure what kind of structure it is, maybe it is a biggest signage in Pangkor. It has the word ‘Pangkor’ on the side of the structure, so that visitors and tourist can see it from distance while on the ferry. The structure was there even before the launching of 1Malaysia. With the aid of Photoshop, here’s what it may looks like after the jump.

Salam. I just watched National Geographic documentary series, ‘Big, Bigger, Biggest‘ about the development of dome in the architecture world. I really enjoy the documentary where cool 3D visualization and animation helps me to understand the whole thing.

To date, the biggest structure with the dome concept in the world is the Oita Stadium in Japan. So, after I’m doing some comparison on Google Map, I guess if somebody wants to beat the record, perhaps Masjidil Haram can be the best place for the next biggest dome.

Here’s an illustration and visualisation to show how big the dome can be if it is possible.

Lot of research need to be done for this purpose. But for this mega project, and the most complicated job is to ensure the safety of the people underneath the dome. This is mainly because Muslim will be in Masjidil Haram 24/7 to perform prayers throughout the year!

Please note that this proposal has nothing to do with the Makkah expansion plan. It just another Sketchup and Photoshop work done by me.

First of all, thanks to Linuxmalaya for introducing me with the Jolicloud. I have installed it and I enjoy using it on my netbook. Here is the screen shot of the main menu.

Jolicloud is an operating system (like Windows XP or Windows 7), but it is a Linux based, and it is designed for netbooks. I have always wanted to install Linux on my machine since 2007 (where my first time met Ubuntu). But software compatibility and usage hold me back from using Linux.

Why Jolicloud?

I bought my netbook for internet surfing and social networking and that’s the reason why I choose Jolicloud. It is lightweight and suitable with the low-specs netbook. The applications can maximize the viewing area in my small netbook screen resolution (1024×600).

If you have a netbook, you should try and consider to use Jolicloud as an additional OS because there’s no harm in trying something new. Plus I don’t have to worry about virus, spyware and malware for now.

I still can switch back to Windows XP whenever I want, but with Jolicloud, everything is a snap! Actually, there is not much different with using XP, but its a free and that makes me feel good. I hope that they can improve the speed especially when I open few tabs in Firefox.

There are also other Linux-based OS dedicated such as Ubuntu Netbook Remix and Moblin but for now, I’ll go for Jolicloud.

Have you ever update your Twitter status and get replies or new followers instantly? Well that’s the result of the Twitter Search. I never realized the potential until I’ve read these articles; 17 Ways You Can Use Twitter: A Guide for Beginners, Marketers and Business Owners and 50 Ideas on Using Twitter for Business.

Social media such as Twitter and Facebook has become the most influential technology in 2009 and perhaps going to be bigger in 2010. I just want to share few things about using Twitter Search, which has become useful tool for most companies to listen to your complaint and suggestion.

For Twitter users, you can simply update your status about certain products and services, give a poor review, feedback and complain in 140 characters. You can include the hash (#) tag if you want to.

Some local companies (whether they have Twitter account or not) will be able to track down your complaint instantly by using the Twitter Search. I’ve tried it myself and its quite useful. But it requires few keyword and search string/operators to get more accurate search. For instance, people who works for Telekom Malaysia and they want to find what customers think about Streamyx service. Just go to Twitter Search and type ’streamyx’. You can also search from the sidebar of your Twitter’s page and save the search.

Because of this reason, Twitter makes profit by selling the searches to Google and Microsoft. Previously, people rely on Google and bloggers rely on high pagerank to get this done. Well, Twitter breaks the rule. You don’t need to have many followers to get in the cloud. You just have to update your status! This is the main thing Facebook doesn’t have.

The scenario might changed in the future, who knows.

P/S – preferred Seesmic as my Twitter client for now

Salam. I guess its not too late for me to wish a happy new year 2010 for all readers from all over the world. May this year bring more success and safer journey to all of us. In this entry, I have two important things to announce.

AdlanKhalidi Blog Niche

It has been two years since I blogged at AdlanKhalidi.com. There are lots of useful and some is not really useful information that I have shared. After I’ve been thinking about it, its time for me to set the niche topic for this blog.

As I’m supporting Mr. Prime Minister with making 2010 the year of innovation and creativity, I would like to introduce a brand new tagline for this blog, which is ‘Innovating Creative Minds’. It is my wish to contribute and spread the idea of creativity and innovation through this blog. New blog theme will be ready by February.

However, there won’t be much different because I will write my own personal view about these topics; design, creativity, technology, product / industrial design and architecture. There will be no more personal rants on this blog from now on. I’m sorry if I have to keep it private. (Twitter & Facebook will serve that purpose).

2010 Resolution

Just another to-do-list of 2009. After I’ve been thinking about it for some time, here’s what I plan to do this year (360 days left since I publish this post).

Publish at least one e-book and make money from it

Participate in online community actively

Save and invest at least RM20k

Publish 100 entries in this blog consistently

Improve motion graphic techniques

Getting fit and tone my upper body

Serve the community

Buy and read more books at least once a month

Create Wordpress and Blogger themes for free

Sponsor customized design for personal blogs

I guess that’s all 10 that I can think of this year. Please pray for me so that I can achieve all of them, InsyaAllah.

Salam to all my readers. This is the last entry for 2009. It was a wonderful year for me. Lots of things happen, graduation, convocation, getting job, freelance, family matters and many more.

Here is a collage, which have made my wonderful and colourful 2009.

In 2009, I only write 86 entries (less 14 than my target) and the most viewed entry of all time – ‘DUKE Highway Route Map on Google Maps‘. Its not easy to do compilations because it takes time yet I will always go for quality than quantity.

2009 Resolution

Let’s recap my 2009 resolution. I guess I have achieved most of them.

Graduate successfully with flying colours this semester. Alhamdulillah, I even received Best Student Award

Produce a good degree project, from sketches to the prototype. Alhamdulillah, I manage to get an A plus an ITEX award too.

Get a job within 3 months of graduation. Alhamdulillah, I got my first job just after my official graduation.

Save and invest at least RM20K for the future. Er.. unfortunately I only can save half of that amount.

Contribute and share more with the society (time, energy and money). Taaruf Week and KASUKABE, does it count?

I’ve been using Komuter for the past 6 months to get to work. My mum will drop me at Bank Negara before I’m heading to Setia Jaya station. In the afternoon, I’ll take Komuter from Setia Jaya to KL Sentral. I’ve been quite an observant to see and understand the issues regarding KTM Komuter. So, I’m going to share few things on why KTM Komuter has poor service yet it still can be improved.

1. Understanding the train design
There are basically three main Komuter coach design. Please refer to the seating layout in the diagram below (not to scale). Please note that these are the seating arrangement for the middle train car, where it is the most spacious car among the three cars (without drivers’ cockpit). Let’s start from the left car.

The first one has the most number of seating, 80 seats. However, the access door is very small and its hard for passenger to disembark and enter the car quickly.

The second one has a unique combination of seating arrangement with 76 seats. However it only has two wide entrance.

The third one has the least number of seating, 72 seats. However, this layout allow more space for standing passenger. It also has three wide entrance for easy access. This is my favourite car of all three.

2. Limited Stops
During peak hours, there will be a Komuter with a different head. This is the Limited Stop Komuter and it will only stop at certain stations. The selected stops are: Shah Alam – Batu Tiga – Subang Jaya – Setia Jaya – Petaling – Pantai – KL Sentral and also Kepong – Rawang – Sungai Buloh – Kepong Sentral – Putra – Bank Negara – Kuala Lumpur – KL Sentral – Midvalley – Bandar Tasik Selatan – Serdang – Kajang – UKM – Bangi – Nilai – Seremban.

3. Schedule
Komuter had changed their schedule recently. From every 20 minutes previously to 15 minutes (off peak hours) and 30 minutes (peak hours). I think it is not a really good move because every hour is a peak hours in modern days. I can’t afford to waste 30 minutes for nothing!

4. Why it suddenly stops?
This question has been puzzled me for the past ten years (I started using Komuters since high school). Based on my observation, I believe that this is because of the sharing rail tracks.

Unlike RapidKL, they have their own lines that ensure their smoothness. Komuter has to share with KTMB train and requires to switch the track. Komuter & KTMB has a complex rail network but they are not efficient enough. I remember watching Discovery on how Mumbai has a complex yet efficient rail network.

5. Travelling time
This information might be varied. Based on my personal experience, from, Seremban to KL Sentral – approx. 1 hours 50 minutes; from KL Sentral to Port Klang – approx. 2 hours.

6. Direct train from Tanjung Malim?
I’m not sure about this train. Every morning I can see five non-Komuter train cars with lots of standing passenger passes by Bank Negara. I don’t think they come all the way from the northern states. My guess is that they are riding direct train from Kuala Kubu Bharu up to Tanjung Malim.

7. Driver will wait for passenger
This is the best thing about Komuter. Usually, the driver will wait until all passengers are safely disembarked and enter the train before it departed (LRT will leave us if we are late). I’m not sure whether the driver has a side mirror or not. But the funny thing is that sometimes the train will reverse if they missed the stop position.

8. Not environmental friendly – wasted paper tickets!

Despite using electric train, Komuter is not green enough because they wasted lots of paper tickets. I’m not sure if they collect those ticket where people toss in the bin.

9. Unfriendly access gates

Most of the Komuter stations use two leg tripod turnstile at the access gates. They should look replace this facility because I think it is uncomfortable as it will touches men’s private part. I have to push it with my hands manually to get through. Some of the access gates are useless and not functioning because people can get through them easily.

10. Accessibility and universal design

Not all station are equipped with elevators for the wheelchair users and elders. If only Peter Tan is a frequent Komuter user, I bet he will complain about these facilities too.

I guess that’s it for today. Lots of harsh complains can be found in local newspaper. I hope Komuter can improve their service in the future based on my comments. For more information, you can visit Komuter website or Wikipedia: Komuter page.

Salam to all readers. I’m sorry I was quite busy with one high impact program (quite high cost too) this weekend which is Karnival Sukarelawan Belia 2009 with shorter name, KASUKABE 09.

Here’s the official Poster, and flyers design.

This program is organized by Belia JIM Ampang Jaya with cooperation from Masjid Al-Azim Pandan Indah as the host. Among prominent exhibitors are Les Copaque (Upin Ipin), National Blood Centre, Hidayah Centre, National Transplant Resource Centre and many more.

Some of the activities including exhibition booth, food and beverage, car boot sale, jumble sale, blood drive donation, free medical checkups, game booths and many more. For more information, you can visit Official Website of KASUKABE 09.

Besides that, its my first time to use Facebook Ad to promote this program. Social media is an important advertising tool because online and offline advertising is important to promote this event. Let’s see how well it performs.

Till then, hope to see you guys there!

P/S – Guess my involvement in UIA events such as KAED Fest and Taaruf Week was really useful this time

Salam. I bet most of you have seen the brand new LRT train in Kuala Lumpur with four cars. My first time seeing this train was on 28th September 2009. You can see more information about it from Transit (Klang Valley) blog.

Here’s todays picture that I’ve taken at KL Sentral station. Its a bit dissapointed to see an empty train but you have to wait for the next one.

Read my five things about RapidKL LRT.

1. The Kelana Jaya line LRT was designed by Bombardier which is based in Germany. The train is an ART MK II model. (Wikipedia & Bombardier)

2. Most people still associate the LRT with Star and Putra eventhough Rapid KL has combined both of them in 2004.

3. It took approximately one hour journey from Terminal Putra station to Kelana Jaya station during non-peak hours.

4. In 2009, RapidKL has setup prayer rooms (surau / musolla) in some of the LRT Stations (including Setiawangsa station).

5. The ticket price remain the same for more than 8 years and its the most economic choice of travelling in Kuala Lumpur. From one end to another end is only RM2.50!

P/S – hate waiting at LRT station

Salam to all my readers.

Just to share my experience when I’m upgrading my operation system from Windows XP to Windows 7. After I have done my homework, studying the pros and cons of Win7 from the internet, I decided to upgrade because it feels like Win7 has many cool feature.

Since I don’t use Windows Vista at all, there’s a slight confusion when I’m browsing here and there. Anyway, I don’t want to explain about the advantage. You can read about it here. What I want to share is the cons or disadvantages especially on the driver support.

This is a common issues among hardware manufacturer. Win7 does not support two of my hardwares which is Aztech Wifi PCI card and Happauge TV Tuner card. Its a bit frustation because without Wifi, its hard for me to connect to the internet from my PC. Anyway, I have the solution by bridging the connection with my Laptop Wifi.

About the TV card, I don’t think Happauge will release a driver for Win7 because its an old hardware.

So far, I’m satisfied with the overall performance of Windows 7. It just a matter of time because I believe, computer programmers and software developers are moving towards Windows 7 compatibility.

P/S – love the fast startup, less than 45 seconds!

Salam and happy Eidul Adha to all Muslim.

Its been awhile since the last post because I’ve been busy with work and some freelance job (view portfolio to see my latest work). For your information, this entry is the hardest compilation I’ve ever done. I have a deep interest in graffiti artworks. I’ve been taking pictures every time I came across any graffiti walls since 2006.

I can see that 2009 is the rise of graffiti in Kuala Lumpur. In this entry, I tried to get all the creative, unique and beautiful ‘bombs’ instead of ‘tags’ which can be seen entire the city. I prefer ‘bomb’ because it is big, colourful and vibrant. These graffitis are here to stay and perhaps, grow longer and bolder. (Unless the authority will repaint the entire wall). Let’s check it out!

1. Shell Wangsa Maju

Seksyen 5, Wangsa Maju – between Shell station and Affinbank

2. Dewan Serbaguna Datuk Keramat

Located at abandoned tennis court, Dewan Serbaguna Datuk Keramat. Can be seen from LRT Jelatek station too.

3. AKLEH Dato’ Keramat

Klang riverbank in Dato’ Keramat, beneath AKLEH Prolintas expressway. Can be seen from Dato’ Keramat LRT Station. To date, this is the second longest graffiti wall in KL with approximate length of 325 meters.

4. Wangsa Melawati

At a playground between Jalan Wangsa Melawati 1 and Jalan Wangsa Ceria 1.

5. Along river bank facing LRT Pasar Seni

Klang riverbank near Central Market. Since July until November, they have been working on painting beautiful and weird graffiti here. To date, this is the longest graffiti wall in KL with more than 400 meters length. Among the catchy design are 1Malaysia and Yasmin Ahmad potrait.

6. Outside Pasar Seni LRT Station

Outside Pasar Seni LRT Station, behind TNB substation.

7. Behind DBKL water curtain

If you drive along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, near to the traffic light of Jalan Tun Perak, you can see this graffiti at a collapsed shophouse walls on your right. On the other side of the wall is a DBKL water curtain!

8. Setia Jaya Komuter station

Located outside Mentari Court wall, facing Setia Jaya Komuter station.

These Graffitis were painted on the zinc wall of a parking lot in front of Leisure Commerce Square (Taylor’s College PJ Campus).

Can be seen from Jalan Tun Razak. On last February 2009, National Art Gallery had organised Graff Jamm 09 and the Graffiti artworks was exhibited at Pavilion KL.
Google Map of graffiti locations

So, here is the Google Map. I’ve plotted these location and maybe I’ll try to add them in the future. I’m feeling like playing GTA3 game, where I have to locate and spray the tags on the wall. Click on the map to view Google Map version.
