I recently gave a CPM advertising campaign a try here on Advertising Moms. We get a good amount of traffic here as far as a work at home mom site goes and the CPM rate offered was fairly decent so it looked like a good income opportunity for us.

After seven days of watching my stats I pulled the ad units and chalked it up to a lesson learned. It was a complete waste of time and earn me a sum total of 18 cents.

Yeah. Eighteen cents.

Our Adsense far out earns that nonsense.

I adore Bed, Bath & Beyond. When I moved recently I treated both my son and I to brand new bedding. I went to BB&B and bought two of their bed in a bag sets plus a few odds and ends for the new apartment.

If I had had a thousand bucks to spend, I would have spent it. The store is full of cool stuff and really nice decor that appeals to my style.

I couldn’t buy that day - but I will be going back. I know this for two reasons.

One - my shopping experience was fun and I got a good deal.

Two - they remind me

I get a mailer every single week with a 20% off coupon for a single item. Every week I smile and hold it and ask myself if this is the week I’ll go back.

It hasn’t happened yet because we were focused on saving for a new television and I’ve been taking care of a few other things - but I WILL GO BACK one of these Mondays and use that coupon

I think this is a good example of persistence in advertising.

Too often we see advertising as a one shot deal when we should see it in terms of a campaign over time.

Bed, Bath & Beyond is working hard to keep their name at the top of my mind. It’s working and it will pay off.

I just had to flush the entire comments database on this blog because I forgot to activate akismet and the creepy damnable blog spammers finally noticed my blog here and completely flooded me with over 4500 spam comments on everything under the sun.

So if you had left a thoughtful and interesting comment on the blog - I apologize that you had to go out with the crap but there was no way that I knew of to avoid it after the fact.

Lesson: Always activate Akismet on a new blog.

As I scanned the ridiculous amount of spam - I can’t help but wonder what kind of bottom dwelling, pond scum eating jerks are behind all that crap that ends up wasting MY time?

Some dull minded idiot takes a perfectly good and useful function and turns it into a torture advice just to get some other daft bonehead some one way links - which for all intents and purposes are a waste of time anyways because my website has nothing to do with any of the topics included in their spammy comments.

Please, please tell me that none of it is done in the name of ‘online advertising’ because I’ll come over to your house and wap you right upside the head with my keyboard.

I invited Advertising Moms Network Members to join me for a Blogtastic Weekend. Every member who wants to participate is blogging a little something about Advertising Moms, the website or the Ryze network - then sharing the blog link on our network so that others can come check out their blogs and make comments.

I love to see new blogs and I especially love to see people commenting on each other’s blogs so this ought to be a lot of fun.

So far we’ve heard from:

Marlo Boux of Small Business Moms. Marlo is a small business coach and she shares my interest in helping work at home moms understand more about the ins and outs of online advertising. I appreciate Marlo’s input on the network, she is always giving back more than she takes.

Laurie Ayers. Laurie is an experienced writer and serves as our ad copywriter at Advertising Moms. She blogged about our Ad Critique Friday’s (which have been nonexistent through the holidays and we need to get them rolling again!) and shared that she really appreciates the willingness of others to be critiqued.

Deanna Spencer. Deanna is a Virtual Assistant who enjoyed reading the ‘Pick and Peck’ article at Advertising Moms.

Carrie Peterson completely gave me a big head and called me a Wonderful Person. Who can live up to that? LOL! Corrie is a frequent poster on the network.

Robin Lemon jumped in to give Advertising Moms a plug too. She is in a blog challenge at the moment where she is posting to her blog 30 times in 30 days.

Chris Carroll blogged about us too. Chris offers some nice exclusive advertising positions on her website by the way

Tammy Munson commented on one of our blog posts from last year. We agree that there are a lot of advertising opportunities in the WAHM community that aren’t worth the cost. Tammy organizes a semi annual Work at Home Expo that WAHMs should be sure to participate in.

I’m sure we’ll have more blog action tomorrow. Meanwhile, be sure to stop at these Mom’s blogs and make a friendly comment!
