After a year of painting last year, I'm not really sure what to do with myself now,

so I write,

I answer questions,

I seek,

I discover,

I paint,

I collage

I experiment.

This was a spur of the moment experiment this past weekend. We needed a birthday gift for our Aunt Jack's and this is what we came up with. Alex worshipped and I painted and took the photos then we put it all together in this slide show.

Doll House for Sale....Maybe

This is me and my sister's dollhouse that we used to play with when we were younger. A friend of my grandmother made it for us over 25 years ago. I told my grandmother I was having a yard sale next weekend and she pulled some things together from her house for me to sell and this was one of the items.

At first I thought no big deal, I'll pitch it in with the yard sale stuff. But then as my husband and son helped me put it together to take these photos, I felt that selling it at a yard sale would not do it justice. The hours I used to spend playing with this flooded my memory. I don't really want to keep it. I have a 12 year old son and can't think of anyone I could give it to.

Look at all the pieces that come with it, even down to the little plate of pastries! I thought I could sell it in my vintage Etsy shop, or try the yard sale. If I did sell it how much? Any thoughts? Suggestions? I welcome any.

This tree outside my window is what has been inspiring me lately. I love the pink, green and black. We've had a lot of rain here lately and whenever it rains it seems all the blooming colors are so much more vibrant.

As I've only had one comment on the Free Art Friday, the art goes to that person. I believe it's Pamela Marshall as she is my anonymous commenter every week! Congrats Pam!

Yesterday was my birthday and I was having a hard time this year. A lot of changes, a lot of situations going on just kind of distracted me from my own day. I was having such a hard time that I left work early. I piddled around Michael's, cashed in on a Victoria's Secret gift card and then came home and stuck my nose in some art magazines. The backgrounds that I did in the last post were calling to me so I did the piece above. I tried something new with the crown. It was made out of glitter tape, and self adhesive jewels. I love doing these paintings and am excited to see where they are going to take me.

I finished this piece over the weekend by adding some doodling. I think I'm going to frame this one.

I decided to transfer my thankful list to my art journal. I've had a hard time getting started in it this year. But I am practicing the new faces and thought my thankful list would be a nice addition.

I worked on some backgrounds pages as well. I'm using watercolor paper, adding old handwritten notes, gesso and paint, stencils and stamps.

Spring seems to be inspiring the my palette right now. Pink and green are in the forefront of my mind. Here are some of my papers I'm starting for collaging. Once they dry I will add a pattern with stamps and stencils and then save them for future paintings.

Spur of the moment

After attending a craft show this weekend we decided to go into DC to the art supply store, Utrecht. For my upcoming birthday I gifted myself a new moleskin journal. Something I would never buy myself any other time.

On our way we started to pass this memorial that for the past couple years we thought was a 9/11 memorial.

But because of this little diversion we discovered it's actually a monument to the Air Force.

It was a cloudy, cold day but the view was still beautiful from where we stood. Arlington Cemetery to our right kissed with cherry blossoms.

In front of us Washington D.C. in all it's historic beauty.

So I got another idea for my new paintings. I wanted some more texture on the backgrounds so I collaged some of my notes from bible study down. I have had this idea for years now because I never wanted to ruin the notes. But really stacks of notebooks filled with notes aren't going to make you change, you have to apply it to your life. What's really sad is these notes were from 2005 and my pastors are teaching the same thing today. It all is relevant. Anyway back to the art. I then doodled all over the notes and applied a white wash of gesso.

I then added a layer of green paint, now I really like the background. We'll see what testing I do tonight!

Truly Seeing

Here's some testing I did in my journals before I wrote the words on the painting. I wanted to get an idea of how it would look. I also played with doing some doodling on the "hair", loving that too!! Is this really me!??!?

First I want to open this post congratulating Vanessa on winning last week's Free Art Friday. Vanessa has been a faithful supporter and encourage of my art since day one so I am thrilled that she's the winner this week.

This is a piece I started on this week. I love the new direction I am going in with my art and decided to make this one my new blog header.

Here's another one I started this week along with the other one. I wanted to put a new piece in my bathroom. So I'm making this one blue and green, stay tuned.

This isn't the best picture, but I have found a way to make my own papers and am loving that process as well!

I know I've missed a couple weeks, I've been crazy busy at the job. Now that the busy season is over, I think I can get more art into my schedule. So here we are with another Free Art Friday.
