When I was a little girl, in the early sixties, my mom used to sit me in a corner with a pair of scissors and a stack of magazines. I remember this image because I thought it was so beautiful, with all the deep greeny blues. I especially admired the confidence on the woman's face and how she was looking off into the horizon as if she had a head full of well-defined plans and five years in which to accomplish them. I thought the only flaw in the photograph was the man simpering at her breast. So I took my scissors and snipped him out. Voila! Problem solved!

I love men, but I was right. This guy doesn't belong in this picture.

Paula Abdul - heterosexual ambassadress

Gary McCullough, the director of ChristianNewsWire, posted an opinion piece on the upcoming demise of the television show American Idol. He blames it all on Ellen DeGeneres who will be replacing Paula Abdul as judge. McCullough claims DeGeneres is , "...more known for her same-sex sexual preference than any expertise in the music business." On the other hand, when you think of Paula Abdul your first thoughts are of wholesomeness and family values?

He goes on to imply that adding DeGeneres as a judge "...is one more step in making sexuality the prime topic when discussing American Idol."

Just because the word "sex" is part of the word "homosexual," the same as it is with "heterosexual," doesn't mean that homosexuality is all about sex, any more than heterosexuality is all about sex. Ellen DeGeneres is a lovely person in a stable, loving relationship. To imagine her sexually as McCullough suggests will happen, takes a lascivious mind, straying from its own professed inclinations.

Christians, let's bring discussions of faith back above the waist. Take your noses out from under other people's bedding and get a breath of fresh air.

While many legal authorities claim the new Irish law is written so narrowly that it is unlikely anyone will ever be prosecuted, please remember that, based on charges of blasphemy, Monty Python's Life of Brian was banned in the Republic of Ireland for eight years.

The new law is meant to protect fragile religious ideas from the big bad wolves of free thought and free speech.

We have figured a way to enhance the tradition of decorating a tree for Jesus at Christmas by adding a cross that acts as a reminder of Him. By changing our tree to include a cross, we are making a statement that we want to keep our Christmas holiday! Our new tree and decorations ideas will not only help to enhance our celebration of the Christmas holiday but will help to enlighten those who may decorate for Christmas but may not be "Christians."

There's a new movie for all you eco-friendly, diversity-addled, liberal, intellectual elites out there. It's called Hive Mind, created by Ladd Ehlinger, Jr., who previously worked as a "military multimedia artist." Let's let the auteur describe the concept behind the film.

When our own President is constantly saying 'we must all think collectively,' naturally as a filmmaker I thought: scifi-horror film! Eco-friendly nudist Borg-like zombies! Cross-bred with Paris Hilton and Tila Tequila! Because really, who wouldn't?

Dang, he's on to Obama. Right, it's because all democrats and liberals think alike that all of Obama's ideas for change are sliding through Congress like shit through a goose. A naked goose! RRrrrooww!

A ChristianNewsWire review encapsulates the plot.

Zombies created by a cell phone that you swallow, that merges with your brain. The lone hold-out is Doug Trench, conservative talk-show host and stevedore of freedom. He's lived in a bunker for twenty years, ever since humanity was consumed by the collective.

"Stevedore of freedom"? I had to look that up. A stevedore is "a person whose job is moving goods on and off ships", basically a longshoreman. I don't get it. I guess I'll have to rent the movie, because Ehlinger is bypassing the traditional distribution to theaters to put this important film directly into the hands of his fans. In other words, straight to DVD.

Over at Debbie's Cakes is a very special Christmas cake she designed. In her own words,

Happy Birthday Jesus

I was ask to do a baby Jesus birthday cake. The design was up to me. My husband came up the the crown of thorns idea. To make the crown, I weaved rolls of fondant around a ring of rolled up of wax paper. Then before the fondant dried, I cut the crown into two sections. This allowed for easy removal of the paper without breaking the crown into pieces. After the fondant dried (several days), I "welded" (with royal icing) the rolls together in various places to keep them together when the paper was removed. Then after that dried, I removed the wax paper.

The thorns are made with royal icing and also attached with royal icing. The tips of the thorns are dabbed with red royal icing. The cake is red velvet with cream cheese icing.

Red velvet - signifying the oh-so-yummy blood of the lamb. Happy birthday, Jesus, indeed!

In honor of last night's passing of healthcare reform by the House of Representatives I offer you a very low resolution version of Ron Ormond's Christian cult classic, If Footmen Tire You, What Will Horses Do? now available on Google videos.

If you thought conservative religious paranoia was something new, this movie will assure you it has existed since Jesus wore short pants.

Minister Estus W. Pirkle, of Nashville, Tennessee, narrates.

In my favorite scene (18:49) communists taunt school children to pray to Jesus to bring them some candy. When that fails, glorious leader steps in and delivers the goods. Other scenes illustrate the dangers of sex education and sensitivity training (10.11), debauchery (12:30), Batman hubcaps (14:00), bullet throwing (18:21), work camps (21:00), bad beards (30:35), assault (32:00), christianity is stupid (34:00), lascivious lip licking (41:21), and Pirkle translating a grandmother's ramblings from beyond the grave (47:20).

Cheap special effects abound, beheadings (44:32), chopsticks in ears (23:40), and drunken communist menacings (24:50).

I love this movie and have tried for years to find a good copy, but this will do for now. Ron Ormond rocks.

Ex-Miss California, Carrie Prejean, has been caught red handed in a sex tape that she herself deemed "disgusting," until she realized she was critiquing her own handiwork.

The video was shopped to TMZ.com but they "decided not to post it because it was so racy."

Who would have guessed that being "white and delightsome" would fail to protect one from criticism, nay, even oppression, equal to that suffered by Blacks during the Civil Rights era?

Brother Dallin H. Oaks, an apostle of the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), spoke to students at Brigham Young University about the backlash against the church's support of Prop 8, California's anti-gay marriage campaign.

These incidents were expressions of outrage against those who disagreed with the gay-rights position and had prevailed in a public contest. As such, these incidents of 'violence and intimidation' are not so much anti-religious as anti-democratic. In their effect they are like the well-known and widely condemned voter-intimidation of blacks in the South...

Responses to Oaks' comments have been swift and sharp, causing Oaks to backpedal, admitting that the intimidation was not "as serious as what happened in the South."

The LDS church has admitted spending $190,000 in support of Prop 8, though expenses and "compensated staff time" may push that number higher.

The man who killed Dr. George Tiller yesterday at his church, as Tiller handed out bulletins to those entering... The man who killed Dr. George Tiller yesterday is the deed to the thought of O'Reilly, Hannity, Beck, Tony Perkins, Donald Wildmon, James Dobson and all their impotent little wannabes.

This happened in Tiller's church - a Reformation Lutheran church, a "welcoming" church, code for accepting LGBT.

Dr. George Tiller was one of a few doctors offering late-term abortions in the United States. He was known to wear a button that read "Trust Women."

The shooting yesterday reminds me of the gunman who entered the Unitarian church last July killing two and wounding seven. The church, according to the gunman, was a liberal church.

There's no freedom of religion in the U.S., according to the Bible bangers. Either you believe like they do or you're fair game. That's not religion. That's a cult. No, it's not a cult, it's terrorism, and the suspect should be treated as an enemy combatant.

Scott Roeder, named as the suspect in the shooting, typed on the Operation Rescue blog on May 19, 2007,

Sometime soon, would it be feasible to organize as many people as possible to attend Tillers church (inside, not just outside) to have much more of a presence and possibly ask questions of the Pastor, Deacons, Elders and members while there? Doesn’t seem like it would hurt anything but bring more attention to Tiller.

See the cached version as their site is not coming up right now. Operation Rescue was quick to denounce the killing yesterday, issuing a press release at ChristianNewsWire.com. Even in their denouncement they wrote,

Operation Rescue recently made headlines when it bought and closed an abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas and has become the voice of the pro-life activist movement in America. Its activities are on the cutting edge of the abortion issue, taking direct action to restore legal personhood to the pre-born and stop abortion in obedience to biblical mandates.

I hope this attack drives each and every lemming last one of them over the cliff of relevance.

Ed Hindson, a self-styled expert in end times theology, met with the likeminded last weekend to discuss the antichrist. Though he does not know who it is, he knows who it is not - definitely no liberals, like Nero, Charlemagne, Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin, Kennedy, or Khrushchev. Then he added one more:

I've heard people say it's Al Gore - trust me, nobody from Tennessee is going to conquer the world.

Hindson was emphatic that Obama is NOT the antichrist. He added that Obama was a kind of valet to the antichrist.

Remember when our foot-in-mouth president, George Bush, called the war in Iraq a "crusade"? It seems that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld played on Bush's delusions by juxtaposing Bible verses with images of war.

Donald Rumsfeld's top-secret briefings for President Bush, known as the Worldwide Intelligence Update,

was a daily digest of critical military intelligence so classified that it circulated among only a handful of Pentagon leaders and the president; Rumsfeld himself often delivered it, by hand, to the White House. The briefing's cover sheet generally featured triumphant, color images from the previous days' war efforts... (a)nd above these images, and just below the headline secretary of defense, was a quote that may have raised some eyebrows. It came from the Bible, from the book of Psalms: Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him... To deliver their soul from death.

This is part and parcel dominionist theory, that "society should be governed exclusively by the law of God as codified in the Bible."

Don't Persecute Me Because of My Faith

According to TMZ these photos were taken last year when "biblically correct" Carrie Prejean (aka Miss California) was 20.

Apparently she forgot about these as she'd told reporters the previous set of photos were the only (semi)nude photos of her in existence.

Or else she's a liar and a fraud.

Miss Prejean has complained that people are persecuting her because of her faith and her stand against gay marriage.

Anti-gay Thought and Children

One of the worst things about the anti-gay movement is the sexualizing of human beings, and especially of children. Heterosexuality is accepted as the norm, homosexuality as a sexual perversion. The "sexual" in "homosexual" is emphasized, understood as activity, whereas in "heterosexual" it's the "hetero" that is emphasized and the "sexual" is waived. Heterosexual children are not viewed by default as sexual beings.

When a person, or a child, comes out as homosexual they are automatically categorized, by those infected with anti-gay thought, as a person characterized by sexual activity. They are viewed in a lascivious light, as might someone working as a pole dancer or Catholic priest.

This is especially harmful with children. Viewing an LGBT child as someone who has crossed over into imagined sexual activity allows some adults to withdraw their respect and protection from that child. This is something I have become acutely aware of as my own 13-year-old son has come out at his middle school.

Many well meaning adults charged with my child's protection look at me through a fog of incomprehension, not understanding why they cannot allow children to be called "faggot" in their classroom, or why they have to report each and every incidence of violence. It's as if they were saying to me, "But your child is gay!"

My son does not have a boyfriend, nor does he want one. He is not there yet. He is a child. He understands that his desire is for his own gender, just as some little girls understand that when they grow up they want to marry someone just like daddy. Coming out as gay, for my son, was not an invitation to be treated like someone "asking for it".

The religious right and social conservatives are making a grave error that may cause the marginalization of their organizations for decades to come. Stripped of their political power and moral authority, all that's left, all the world sees, is the perversion of their ideas - LGBT children as sexualized beings rather than human beings, and the smallness, meanness and cruelty that they preach.

Viewing LGBT children as sexualized beings instead of human beings requires the willing (though perhaps unconcious) act of recategorizing a human being, or human child, as a sexual object. This places the child at risk of being abused by other children and adults for whom the usual social boundaries no longer apply.

If we are talking about sin, recategorizing a human child as a sexual object is a SIN.

Semi-nude photos of Carrie Prejean, aka Miss California, have surfaced. Miss Prejean who is a born again Christian and anti-gay marriage activist, claims the photos were taken when she was a teenager.

Prejean claims the release of the photos was meant to mock her Christian faith. She called the release an attack, intolerant and offensive.

In the photos Prejean is wearing only a pair of pink panties, and her arm covers her nipple. The bottom of her breast is exposed.

The Blessed Virgin Mary is appearing at the Las Palmas restaurant in Calexico. She's assumed the form of the Virgin of Guadalupe in a stain on the griddle. The miracle has been attracting many visitors including the two Lucha Libre stars - Renegado and Mr. Tempest - above. Mr. Tempest told reporters,

I follow Our Lady of Guadalupe. This is amazing. It's a true miracle.

The griddle has been replaced and is now on display.

There's problems brewing in the hitch-o-sphere.

The Florida legislature has voted for a new Jesus license plate. When asked if he would veto the bill ordering the new plates, Florida Governor Charlie Crist commented,

"I would not veto those... No, I would not," Crist said. Asked if he has a problem with Jesus on a license plate, Crist responded "I don't. No." On the question of Church and state, Crist argued that "If they don't want one they don't have to buy one" and defended the plates on the basis that "I think it... What's it say? 'In God We Trust' on every single piece of monetary, coins and paper we have? I think it's fine."
