Full of meaning are His words, “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” John 13:17. Words are of no value unless they are accompanied with appropriate deeds. What is Total Member Involvement, and how should it be done?

Total Member Involvement (TMI) is really the last great proclamation of the Advent message. It’s an initiative that encourages everyone in the Seventh-day Adventist to find ways to actively bring friends, neighbors, and even strangers to Jesus.

TMI is an intentional soul winning plan that discovers the needs of family, friends, and neighbors, then shares how God fulfills every need. To do this, we must first ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, pray often, become diligent students of God’s Word, and then share it with others. And there are so many possibilities for sharing!

Personal witnessing, literature distribution, small groups, health ministry outreach, community services, Pathfinder and youth programs, and of course, public evangelism are just some of the ways in which we can reach others for Jesus. Whether you are a lay member, pastor, or church administrator, we need to become completely involved with God’s advent message to the world. Everyone doing something for Jesus!

The amazing results that we recently saw in Rwanda (see “Number of Baptisms Reaches 97,344 in Rwanda”), are a direct result of Total Member Involvement and serve as a wonderful example of what God can do when people are totally committed to reaching others for Him.

Have you ever heard someone go on and on about how terrible their life is? They have nothing positive to say and no matter how encouraging you try to be, they insist on seeing the dark side of life, as if they enjoy wallowing in their misery.

After a while, no one really wants to be around all that negativity! Christians should be the most positive people on the planet! We have the blessed hope of a soon coming Savior and living for eternity with Jesus! Now that’s something to look forward to! No matter how bad it gets, we have no reason to feel sorry for ourselves because God has everything under control and He has a better life planned for us! When tempted to be discouraged and start feeling sorry for ourselves, the best thing to do is “count our blessings!” Even the person who seems to have lost everything, still has “something” to praise Jesus for!

We can all thank God for giving us life, for the air we breathe, His love and protection, His faithfulness and most of all, for sending His son to die on a cross so that we might have eternal life with Him! Travel
Significant travel (30-50%) is required for all GCAS positions as field work is performed in client offices throughout the Region. An audit team usually leaves on Monday morning and returns to the regional office on Thursday evening.
Orientation
Intern orientation is done within the assigned Regional office and will include both an overview of GCAS and hands-on learning in a live client audit environment.
Audit Experience
Interns will experience hands-on audit work similar to a new employee. This will include working under the supervision of an Audit Senior or Audit Manager in performing various audit functions including pulling trial balances and preparing lead schedules using audit software, assisting in performing compliance and substantive testing during work in the client’s office, and assisting in preparing client financial statements and reports.

Philosophy of Remuneration
As outlined in the General Conference Remuneration Scale document, working for the Seventh-day Adventist Church involves a commitment to mission and spirit of dedication, service, and sacrifice. The focus is on sharing Jesus and the hope of salvation with the world.
Remuneration Rates
Hourly pay rates for interns are determined based on the regional GCAS office to which the intern is assigned.
Work Week Hours
While GCAS auditors typically work a standard work week, there are times when additional time in the evenings or on weekends is needed to complete the audit, observe physical inventory counts, prepare for constituency session reports, or other unusual obligations. There is no overtime pay, as GCAS auditors are “exempt” salaried employees; however, Friday afternoons and weekends are generally free.
Travel Expense Reimbursements
Travel expenses to client offices are reimbursed according to policy including mileage, per diem, lodging expense, etc. Full details are available in the NAA Practices and Procedures Manual.

There are seven paid holidays in the year in addition to a full week of paid time off for the Christmas holiday week, as specified by the GC HR Committee. The Canadian GCAS office will follow the holiday schedule as published by the SDACC (Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada).

From the moment we open our eyes in the morning our decision making process starts; Should I get out of bed, or hit the snooze button for 10 more minutes of sleep? Do I wear the red shirt or the blue? Have breakfast or skip it? Or course there are more serious decisions that we make as well and with every choice we make, we must keep in mind that for every ‘action’ there is a ‘reaction.’

If we make wrong choices, we will suffer the consequences. Just one decision can alter the course of our lives and that’s why it’s important to ask God to be part of all the decisions we make! With God in charge, we never have to worry about; “Am I doing the right thing?” We can move forward with confidence knowing that God is leading and guiding each step of the way! Talk to Him about the little things and the big things! Whether it is as small as what to eat for dinner, or as critical as changing a career path, God wants us to lean on Him fully and completely!

117,00 people babtized in Tanzania and Uganda

A major evangelistic thrust in Tanzania and Uganda has resulted in 117,000 baptisms, dramatically expanding a Seventh-day Adventist initiative to proclaim Jesus’ soon coming through Total Member Involvement evangelism.

About 24,000 speakers, mostly lay people, participated in June 16-July 1 evangelistic meetings at 8,000 sites in the neighboring African countries, church leaders said Wednesday. Thousands of church members also reached out to their communities with free medical clinics and other forms of practical assistance.

“We praise the Lord for His leading this far,” said Joel Okindoh, director of evangelism for the Adventist Church’s East-Central Africa Division, whose territory includes Tanzania and Uganda.

Okindoh said 80,806 people were baptized in Tanzania, and another 35,969 people were baptized in Uganda. Additional evangelistic meetings are being held in the two countries this month, and more baptisms are expected, he said.

The recent baptisms bring church membership to about 600,000 in Tanzania and 330,000 in Uganda.

Okindoh credited Total Member Involvement, or TMI, with playing a key role in the baptisms and said all church members needed to be encouraged to make it part of their everyday lives.

“The greatest task is to nurture these new believers and to make TMI the lifestyle of our unions, conferences, local churches, institutions, and individual members,” he said by e-mail.

TMI is a world church initiative that encourages each of the church’s 20 million members to actively share Jesus with others.

Among the TMI efforts in Uganda, Adventist health professionals ran a weeklong free medical clinic in the city of Mbarara that treated more than 800 people a day, the East-Central Africa Division said on its website.

Ham Youngsik, a South Korean pastor and missionary, who assisted with the free clinic, expressed joy that 35 patients were baptized.

“God avails money and skills to do His work,” he told the website.

The latest baptisms mark the second time that the Adventist Church as surpassed the 100,000 mark during a TMI evangelistic campaign. A similar initiative in May 2016 resulted in 110,000 baptisms in Rwanda, which is also part of the East-Central Africa Division. TMI evangelism took off with 30,000 baptisms in Zimbabwe in 2015, and it has led to thousands of baptisms in Romania, Ukraine, and the Philippines so far this year. In Kenya, 73,000 people were baptized in March alone as local church members aim for an annual record of 400,000 baptisms.

“After the Total Member Involvement experience in Rwanda in 2016, TMI has become a standard feature of the East-Central Africa Division!” Adventist Church president Ted N.C. Wilson said on his Facebook page. “We praise God for how the lay people are rallying to the call to become completely involved in soul winning. What a joy to see the thousands upon thousands being baptized through the Holy Spirit’s power and the hard work of pastors and lay people united in mission for Christ sharing the good news of the three angels’ messages and Christ’s soon coming. Let’s all be part of TMI!”

Duane McKey, who oversees TMI for the Adventist world church, said that after Rwanda the world church provided the East-Central Africa Division with 1,200 special video projectors that work with only a flash drive, no computer needed, and he encouraged division leaders to hold 20,000 evangelistic series in 2017.

“It looks like they are well on their way,” he said by e-mail. “Like Pastor Blasious Rugori, president of the East-Central Africa Division, says, ‘God is up to something HUGE.’”

TMI evangelism has not only led growing numbers of people to Christ but also encouraged visiting speakers to expand the program in other countries. Hugely successful evangelistic meetings across Romania in February prompted the Inter-European Division, who leaders preached at the meetings, to announce that it would expand the initiative throughout its territory.

About 550 foreign guests from within and without the East-Central Africa Division participated in the Tanzania and Uganda events. The visitors left inspired to follow the model in their home countries, Okindoh said.

“TMI has generated a spiritual revival among all the participants and enhanced unity through foreign guests’ involvement across the territories,” he said. “TMI is here to stay by the grace of God.”

Job wealth was taken away and his children died just in a single day, yet he did not complain why me nor am I the only one suffering on planet earth, but responded positively by saying, the Lord has given and the Lord taken away blessed be the name of the Lord (Job 1: 21). Job praise God in the midst of his difficulties. In the same vein, Paul echoes in 2 Corinthians 4:17 "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory".

Job, Paul and other faithful christians in the Bible saw affliction not as stumbling block but they saw their trials, difficulties, pains, etc as stepping stone and an opportunity to praise God. My prayer for everyone is to rejoice and praise God in the midst of our challenges and trials.

God doesn’t want you to worry and fret about your problems! He wants you to trust Him with your trials, pain and heartache, knowing He will see you through.
He also wants you to have good thoughts, keeping your mind focused on Him. If you find yourself thinking about things that are pulling you away from God - then it’s time to push the “reset button” by reading God’s Holy Word, and start filling your mind with things that are pure and true. Prayer and Bible study is the best way to get your thoughts focused in the right direction!

A Young Adventist Girl Bags a Commonwealth Youth Award For Excellence in Development Work

For the second consecutive year, a Seventh-day Adventist was announced as a winner for the South Pacific region of the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work.

Jacqueline Joseph, the CEO and co-founder of Equal Playing Field, a youth-led organization in Papua New Guinea (PNG) that uses sports activities as a tool to end gender-based violence, was presented with the award in March when she was flown to London, England for a special ceremony.

The annual award acknowledges young leaders under 30 who have demonstrated initiative in spearheading projects that will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals—a set of 17 global targets that governments have committed to achieve by 2030. Selected from more than 200 nominations, Joseph was one of 17 finalists chosen from the 52 Commonwealth nations for the annual award.

“Receiving this award is a great honor, as it recognizes the hard work and dedication of all the people who have been involved in Equal Playing Field (EPF), and more importantly God’s faithfulness and leading,” said Joseph, a member of Vai Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church in Port Moresby. “I feel privileged to represent the Pacific region, and want to recognize the many other young people around the world who are leading initiatives that are bringing about positive change. Social change never happens in isolation.”

On March 15, Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland presented the four regional finalists with their awards and praised them for their efforts to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals.

“With our Commonwealth Youth Awards we honor exceptional individuals whose practical sense of purpose is uplifting, and whose passion inspires us,” she said. “I encourage anyone who thinks they can’t make a difference to follow the example of these youth leaders who are working in imaginative ways to make our world safer, and our societies fairer and more inclusive.”

“These eight-week programs for 13 to 15-year-olds have fostered frank and open discussions and proven to be an effective model of working with young people to prevent violence against women and children,” Joseph said. “But more importantly, we have seen how the attitudes and behaviors that allow violence against women and girls to occur, have been changing and contributing to the building of stronger, safer, happier communities in PNG. For the first time, I am seeing children at an early age begin to question and challenge social norms on the value of women. For the first time, I see an emphasis on respect in relationships.”

“We want conversations about preventing gender-based violence, and creating respectful and healthy relationships to continue. And as Christians, I believe that we have an important role to play in doing more to change attitudes to gender-based inequalities,” Joseph continued. “We are well-positioned through our education and health systems, and I hope we can lead even more discussions about healthy relationships and preventing and addressing gender inequalities in our communities.”

Reflections on the Mark of Beast - Evang. Eddy Thompson Azanor

Revelation 13:16-18
Our passage reads: “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.”

It is my conviction that God would not leave people in the dark concerning this most important end-time issue. Those who will gain victory over the beast—surviving its deceptions and assaults—would/must clearly understand the issues at stake. The prophecy of Daniel intimates us that God will grant special illumination to His faithful in the “time of the end.”: “Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand” (Dan. 12:9, 10, Emphasis mine). It is pertinent to note that understanding come to those who are the opposite of the wicked. They are wise because, first and foremost, they are righteous—they are true to the truth previously revealed to them (regarding stealing, adultery, state of the dead, Sabbath, etc.). So being righteous is a foremost prerequisite in receiving divine illumination.

Now the context in which our passage finds itself is undoubtedly dealing with the issue of worship. In fact, the entire book of Revelation is replete with this motif.

Another thing (very pivotal) that needs to be considered in knowing what the mark of the beast constitutes is to see the polarization shown in the book of Revelation. Most people follow the beast and a few follow the Lamb. Those who follow the Lamb do not receive the mark of the beast. They are characterized as those who keep the commandments of God in Revelation 14:12 and this is how they resisted the mark of the beast. From this alone it is safe to conclude that if one keeps all of God’s commandments by the enabling power of the Holy Spirit as a love commitment to Christ, one is bound to escape the mark of the beast.

Furthermore, taking the Bible as one corpus, it is also very easy to see what the issue will be in these last days. But before we even do that let us understand that once we are able to identify who the beast represents, we are not very far from knowing what its mark constitutes. And, of course, real, unbiased, textual, contextual, intertextual and objective studies have shown that the papal system of the medieval ages is the sea beast of Revelation 13. All the identifying marks unmistakably point to this religio-political power as the apocalyptic culprit that persecuted God’s people and tampered with His law in the Dark Ages (see our article “Who is the Beast with the Dreaded Mark?” on this blog).

Let us go back to looking at the entire corpus of Scripture in determining the mark of the beast. God has used different signs to mark His people down through the ages—entering the ark, circumcision, etc. But since we have been intimated in Revelation that those who do not receive the mark of the beast keep all of God’s commandments, it is only logical that God’s seal has everything to with God’s commandments.

It is important at this point to show that among the Ten Commandments there is only one that God speaks of as a sign between Him and His people (see Exo. 31:16, 17; Eze. 20:12, 20). It also makes sense to see that this is so because this is the only commandment that contains the reason why God alone is worthy of worship—by virtue of being the Creator God. It is not hard to see also that Satan would especially hate this commandment and seek to draw people’s attention from it—exactly what he has done through the ages. Have you ever noticed that even communist (atheistic) states had laws that prohibit stealing and murder? But such godless systems can never think of observing the Sabbath because the only reason for keeping it is to acknowledge the God who made the world in six literal, 24 hours, consecutive and contiguous days (Gen. 1:1-2:33; Exo. 20:8-11).

Moreover, the beast power has claimed that the greatest mark of its authority is the fact that it changed the Sabbath to Sunday and that those who keep Sunday are paying homage “to the authority the [Catholic] church.’’[1] And if we know that the mark of the beast is the opposite of God’s mark or seal (that Satan has created not only a spurious but also a counterfeit Sabbath), then it is not hard to figure out that faithful Sabbath observance in the last days constitute the seal of God and enforced Sunday observance and the prohibition of free Sabbath worship constitute the final issue around which the great controversy winds up on the earth. Remember, it’s not just a matter of days but that of those who you follow—the beast or the Lamb. And if Ellen White’s statement, as found in The Desire Of Ages, that “in order to keep the Sabbath holy, men themselves must be holy” is true, then true Sabbath observance calls for unreserved consecration to God.[2] It is no wonder Ezekiel links Sabbath observance to sanctification (Eze. 20:12).

Finally, as a Seventh-day Adventist who believes that Ellen White manifested the gift of prophecy in her life and ministry, I fully subscribe to the following from The Great Controversy (which I believe to be prophetic):

But when Sunday observance shall be enforced by law, and the world shall be enlightened concerning the obligation of the true Sabbath, then whoever shall transgress the command of God, to obey a precept which has no higher authority than that of Rome, will thereby honor popery above God. He is paying homage to Rome, and to the power which enforces the institution ordained by Rome. He is worshiping the beast and his image. As men then reject the institution which God has declared to be the sign of His authority, and honor in its stead that which Rome has chosen as the token of her supremacy, they will thereby accept the sign of allegiance to Rome—“the mark of the beast.” And it is not until the issue is thus plainly set before the people, and they are brought to choose between the commandments of God and the commandments of men, that those who continue in transgression will receive “the mark of the beast.”[3]

The Believer's Dilemma - Questions That Beg For Answers

I am a Muslim by birth. My dad and mum have been to Mecca as pilgrims and my grandfather was the chief Imam of Ile-Ife, Osun State, for decades. I remember drawing the ire of my father on several occasions by sleeping with a Bible over my head during my teenage years. And despite the disapproval of my parents, I gave my life to Jesus Christ several times as a kid, and got baptized in my second year at Babcock University, where I first encountered Seventh-Day Adventism. By the time I was at Babcock University as an undergraduate, I had given my life to Christ, but I was not a Bible student. I simply followed whatever was popular in Christendom, and that, of course, meant believing that Sunday was sacred.

I also had to pretend to be a Muslim whenever I was at home for the fear of being reprimanded. However, before I graduated from the school, a friend and classmate patiently introduced me to the Sabbath commandment and other unmistakable Bible truths. By then, I was already an avid reader of the Bible through the help of another friend and classmate, who did not believe in the Sabbath Commandment.

Their contrasting beliefs put me in a huge dilemma, but today, by the help of the Holy Spirit and years of patient study, I have come to understand that if the Bible and the Bible alone is our standard as Christians, the Sabbath commandment like every other commandment is important to the great law giver, and is our clearest indication that we acknowledge Him as the Creator; not as a means for salvation, but as a result of our salvation. I have since informed my parents about my faith and had several other encounters with Christ, and I now double as a missionary through literature evangelism and songwriting. In November 2015, after a unique divine encounter and in obedience to God’s instruction, I spent the next ten months writing “The Believer’s Dilemma: Questions that beg for answers”, relying on my study, experience, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Before the completion of the work, I left my job to finally answer a long-time call by God to become a missionary to the sick and needy. I am the founder of a start-up non-governmental organisation, Mission to Neighbours Nigeria Foundation (MNNF), whose mission is to alleviate poverty and suffering amongst the less-privileged, while bringing them to Christ.

Although he had never heard of Adventists or visited their church, Ahmet felt a strange impression to go find an Adventist church.

What is Love?

I tend to find the answer to life’s questions written in the Word of God. This should not be any different when it comes to the understanding of love. The world gives and promotes a superficial idea of love, where lust is often regarded as love. Love is not based on impulse but principle. Love is not temporary or based on feeling it is a continuous act.

The topic of love cannot be exhausted. There are different aspects to this one entity and all theses variances make up or at least contribute to understanding what constitutes love.

First Corinthians 13 is chapter where apostle Paul outlines the formulae of love. (In the King James version of the Bible the word love is referred to as charity but for the purpose of this article I will be using the word love that is found in other Bible versions)
