Moore Oklahoma Tornado – May 2013

When the people of Moore, Oklahoma woke on Monday morning, the very last thing they expected was to have their lives turned upside down and inside out later that afternoon. Unfortunately, as most of us know, that is exactly what happened.  When the enormous EF5 tornado ripped through the town, people were caught unaware. The tornado moved fast…and it moved hard destroying almost everything in its path. Lives were lost, homes destroyed, and the residents of Moore had their very existence shaken once again.

This isn’t the first time that Moore has been hit hard. Just ask anyone from the area. May 3, 1999 also proved to be a day that will  live forever in their minds. Just like this one. My Tommy spent a good part of his childhood in Moore. His grandparents still live there. Monday evening was very tense in my house while we waited to find out if they were okay. Finally, he received an email from them and all was well. They were lucky and the twister missed their house by about a mile or so.

We as couponers stockpile. We coupon hard to help our own family survive. My family personally preps for emergencies just like this. For that one moment in time when your life as you know it…forever changes. It’s my belief though that because coupon’ers like myself and those of you who stockpile have more than we need on any given day…that we should help where we can. The people of Moore’s lives were changed on Monday in ways that those of us who have never been through it, can not really fathom. I can tell you of another blogger who lives in the area. Her husband coaches a local basketball team and they found out last night that one of their 9 year old players is in ICU. He was scheduled to have surgery today and I’ll update you when/if I find out more. This little boy, 1 year older than my Emma, when he wakes up, has a whole different world to wake up to. His school is likely gone, his home may be…and worst of all? His mother is.

I encourage you to really stop and think about where you can help. If you can donate items, fantastic. If you can donate $10.00, great. If all you can manage right now is time to volunteer? Even better. Do something to help though and help the resident’s of Moore, Oklahoma put their lives back together. Below is a list of places where you can donate time, money or goods. I encourage you to take a look and do what you’re able to, and if you can’t do any of those things? A simple prayer goes a long way.

• water bottles
• Gatorade
• diapers
• baby wipes
• baby formula
• work gloves
• trash bags
• individual wrapped snacks
• hand sanitizer, hand towels
• sunscreen, batteries
• flashlights and money

These will be delivered to the Salvation Army for distribution.

Please bring items to the Yukon High School Rotunda by Wednesday 5/23/13 at 3:30pm

All Edmond Schools are taking donations

The high schools in Edmond are collecting donations. North is collecting water, Santa Fe is collecting canned goods and Memorial is collecting clothes. You can drop off any donations at their respective location.

St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church

Located at SW 119th and May, they’re needing non-perishable food items, water, and clean-up supplies (rakes, shovels, heavy duty gloves, etc) for donation.

The fabric is soft enough that it won’t irritate baby, it’s sturdy enough to help those learning to sit without support sit up on their own and those Taggies will keep your little one entertained during tummy time! Arica sure loves hers!
