While I often read about other's more natural lifestyle and all the natural products companies were offering, I never really gave it much thought. I had favorite, trusted brands/products and I am a creature of habit. I know what works for us and I stick with it. That is until I kept hearing news about what's really in some of the products I use, especially the products I use for my daughter! That got my attention and I really started considering natural products for her. While I eventually plan to change most of our products to natural products, I figure I can start where it's most important....with my precious little one.

I was thrilled to learn more about Johnson's Natural Baby Products. Johnson's has always been our trusted brand, I grew up using it and it was automatcially what I knew I would use for Abby. Not only has Johnson's been around for generations and is a trusted brand by many, they went the extra step and created Johnson's Natural, a new line of baby products that are natural and gentle for your baby's skin. To discover they offer a Natural product line was just what I needed, my trusted brand with products that are better for my child.

The Natural line consists of three products:

Head-to-Toe Foaming Baby Wash, Baby Lotion and Baby Shampoo.

The Johnson's Natural product line is the only line of baby skin products that is at least 98% natural with over 100 years of baby care expertise. And of course, every Johnson's Natural cleanser contains the gentle No More Tears formula.

One thing I love the most about these products were all paraben-free, dye-free, and allergen-free. These are all huge pluses for me and exactly what I look for now when it comes to products for my daughter! It's also reassuring to know that all of the products have been tested by dermatologist.

I know that Johnson's Natural will now be what I use for Abby. We love the products, they work well with her sensitive skin and leave her skin feeling really soft. Plus they have the same wonderful smell as the regular products! Best of all, it's still affordable compared to regular products so I don't have to change the budget!

And....Johnson's Natural line recently won the 2012 Better Homes and Gardens Best New Product Award!

I feel better each day about making the change to Johnson's Natural and I'm thankful for the opportunity to review the products and share them with all of you! I encourage you to give these three great products a try for yourself!

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Johnson’s Natural and received a product sample to facilitate my review, and a promotional item to thank me for participating.”

"Out Sick" Giveaway! philosophy 3-in-1 Shower Gel!

Oh my, where to begin! Each Spring and Fall as the sale dates are announced, I start planning for my shopping trip. With Abby in odd sizes I know I need to start by trying a few things on her. This helps give me a good idea of what she's currently in, what is getting small and what she will probably be in throughout the season. I try on shirts, pants, shoes, pretty much anything to get an idea of her sizes. I also take note of her closet, what all she already has and how long it will last plus anything I might have bought in advance if I found a great deal at a previous sale.

For each sale in the past I have always tried to go during the Pre-Sale Event. Shopping the Pre-Sale is my favorite because I get to go in before the event opens to the public, I have a better chance of finding big items (those big items are most popular and go fast!) and I have first selection of the clothing/toys/etc. Rhea Lana's gives you so many different ways to earn an opportunity to shop the Pre-Sale:

Volunteer! Rhea Lana's wonderful volunteer's truly help make make the sale a pleasant shopping and consigning experience. Volunteering helps earn you a Worker's Pass and those with Worker Passes are the very first to get to shop on Pre-Sale Day! Visit Rhea Lana's Website for more information about volunteering and how you can earn a Worker's or Early Worker's Pass.

Consign! Enter your own items into the sale, make money while you shop and get the opportunity to shop early! There really isn't anything better! Consignor's are in line behind the Worker's to shop early during the Pre-Sale event.

Moms-to-Be! That's right, Rhea Lana's loves all the wonderful moms-to-be that visit the sale and offer them a chance to beat the rush of the public crowd by shopping early. Simply visit the website, select your sale event, go under the "shop" tab and print your moms-to-be pass.

Guest Pass! This is for those that receive a guest pass from a friend that is consigning (you must have the pass to shop) as well as for the Military Moms (must show ID)! Plus I'll give you a quick hint here.... become a friend of Rhea Lana's on Facebook and keep your eye on their wall. Not only do they post helpful shopping tips, updates, sneak peeks of the sales but they also post a special Facebook Friend Pass that you can print and use to shop during the guest pass time frame during the Pre-Sale!

So there you go, several fantastic opportunities that allow you to gain a pass to shop during the Pre-Sale event. What's even better, there's also a Pre-Sale event before the start of the Half-Price days! I always make sure to shop both the Pre-Sale and the Half-Price Pre-Sale. In the past I have always found amazing bargains on both days and I'm always quite pleased with my purchased. There's a restock day so it's definitely worth going back for a second round!!

I can honestly say the rush and excitement before the sale is always fun. Standing in line with my pass, just waiting to go in and see what I can find. Now I don't like crowds, I have anixety attacks when it comes to big crowds but once I'm in the door and looking through the clothing racks the crowd doesn't seem all that bad so don't let the long lines/crowd scare you off. A big tip, take something to put things in!! Rhea Lana's does request that strollers (and children) do not attend the Pre-Sale simply because it is so crowded and so busy. In year's past my sister and I have either taken my niece or taken her stroller to put clothes on/in while we shopped. The sales have grown considerably over the years and the last sale I went to, there is no way I could have manuvered a stroller through the racks and people.

*My tip is get you once of those little basket carts on wheels or get you a large laundry basket and make a handle (the large tubs with handles work great as well, I just have laundry baskets already at home). Bags might seem like a good idea but they get heavy and get in your way of shopping.

Depending on what I'm looking for depends on where I start, when I was pregnant and was needing larger items I started by going to the furniture nook and area where all the pack n plays were set up. These items will go fast so if you are looking for them shop there first. After that would be large toys and baby items. Now that I'm more focused on just clothes I head straight to the racks and start browsing the sizes I need. I put items in my basket and flip through the clothes quickly just so I can get through all the racks. Now I admit, I will grab what catches my eye. There are SO many shoppers that I like to gather everything first then find a quiet corner to go through my stack. Typically there are 5+ racks in the sizes I need and my basket will be overflowing by the time I'm done! Here is a picture I took at one of the sales last Fall...now this pictures includes clothes for BOTH my daughter and niece. I got to the sale long before my sister so once I was done looking for Abby I looked through my nieces size.

HUGE buggy full (can you make out my little laundry basket in the bottom? lol) but I'm just getting started. Remember, I said I quickly go through the racks and gather what I like. Now it's the fun part, it's time to sort and really go through what I have. Here are some great tips:

Find a space with good lighting and go through the clothes you have picked up. There are normally tables but sometimes not enough.

Inspect the clothes for possible stains, holes, rips, etc. Yes it is against the rules to put items like that in the sale and the volunteers are wonderful at keeping an eye out for possible stained/torn clothing when it comes in but they are not perfect. And yes, people will put items in the sale that are severely stained. I've seen it every single year. People often look at me like I'm crazy cause I'm standing there so very carefully looking over the clothes but I'm not going to waste money on something with stains or that has holes or that is severely worn out. Many times I've had to put back a super cute outfit I really wanted to get because it was covered in stains. Check the clothes over!

Check sizes!! This is very important when it comes to outfits. I know it seems like a 2T top would be with a 2T bottom but it's not always true. I have often picked up tops in the right size only to discover that the bottoms are either way too small or too big. Always double check the sizes.

Make outfits! This is wonderful and really saves big money. Finding items that will mix and match help you get more for your money. Remember that the consignor's have possibly already made some outfits (not all outfits may be matching brands but that's okay as long as matching sizes) so making additional outfits really helps.

Double check the tags. If it says it's a 2T Gymboree Seahorse Tee make sure it really is :) no one is perfect and sometimes a simple mistake can happen.

Make sure your item does have a tag! No tag means no sale :(

After going through your pile, take eliminated items to a return rack and then go browse the racks one more time. You might have overlooked something or someone else might have put something back.

Have a budget, go through your pile adding up prices to see what your total will be...if more than what you really wanted take the time to really consider everything. Do you really need all those tees? all those jeans? Work on the pile until it fits in your budget and you have your favorite items.

Our huge buggy full usually turns into just a simple laundry basket full for each of us by the time we are ready to check out. That's because we set a budget before going in and we keep to that budget. At this last sale my sister came in a few hours after I did and ended up finding several items for Abby and her daughter that I didn't find. She I think ended up with 15 items, I had about 30 just enough to fill my basket to the top plus two big toys.

The girls are all set and our shopping is done. The experience is always such fun, we find such amazing bargains and adorable clothes and our shopping for the season is finished! Here are a few pictures of some of our great finds:

It's that time of year again! Children's Clothing Spring Consignment Sales and my absolute favorite, Rhea Lana's, is coming up soon! No idea what Rhea Lana's is? You are definitely missing out so let me take a moment to quickly fill you in.

Rhea Lana's is the nation's premier children's consignment event venue with numerous events in 17 states! At Rhea Lana's you can find name brand children's clothing, toys, furniture, pretty much anything and everything you need for your little ones at amazing prices! Better yet, not only can you stock up on clothing and items for your child BUT you can also sale clothing & toys your child has outgrown! So while you're shopping and saving you can also be making money! We all know that it can get really expensive when it comes to little ones so this is a win win situation.

Rhea Lana's announces it's sale dates twice a year, once during the Spring and again in the Fall, just in time to stock up on clothing needed as the weather changes. Here in AR, there are numerous cities Rhea Lana's comes to and I'm lucky enough to live within traveling distance of several of them. I can honestly say that since Abby was born I have rarely bought her any clothing brand new at the actual stores. Oh she has tons of brand new clothes, tons of adorable outfits that are name brand such as Gymboree, Children's Place, Old Navy, etc and she definitely has always had a closet full. I have stocked her closet each Spring and Fall by attending Rhea Lana's. I have found all the jeans, tees, coats, everything that she has needed and many items I found with tags still attached. I even went to the consignment event before having Abby. I attended many times with my sister to help her shop for my niece, she's actually who got me hooked on Rhea Lana's! Then once I found out I was pregnant I started shopping for myself, purchasing our boppy (brand new), our travel pack n play, bumbo, glider & ottoman, toys, blankets and clothing to help stock the nursery. When I sit down and really look at my totals and compare, I have saved hundreds!!

Here's a small price comparison of a few things I've purchased in the past:

Boppy
Brand New in store: retails for about $50.00
Price I paid at Rhea Lana's for one Brand New in original package: $10.00
Bumbo
Brand New in store: retails for about $45.00
Price I paid at Rhea Lana's for one in excellent condition: $15.00
Gymboree Outfits
Brand New in store: prices vary but can be about $10-$30 per item
Prices I paid at Rhea Lana's: $10 for an entire outfit NWT, $3 for a shirt NWT, etc.

Sitting here thinking of my saving got me curious and I went looking for one of my recent receipts, I purchased 31 items for only $98. These items included 6 NWT Gymboree outfits, several more Gymboree outfits in excellent condition, a NWT Gymboree coat, NWT Children's Place, Old Navy and Carter's pajamas, several more outfits and shirts. The 6 NWT Gymoboree outfits and coat alone could have cost me $300 -$430 at the store (depending on if I went during a sale with coupons). The savings are amazing, my child has everything she needs and I didn't kill our budget!

Since having Abby, I now not only attend the sale to shop but I also consign to help make money to cover the cost of her clothing. With the amounts of clothing and toys my child has...especially the many, many items she never wore because she grew so fast, it only makes sense to consign and try to sell everything. I keep a tub handy and throughout the year I add things to it as she outgrows them. When the consignment sale dates are announced all I have to do is grab my tub, some hangers, a few other supplies and I'm ready to get my items entered into the system. This is another part of Rhea Lana's that I love, the system for entering my items to consign is SO easy and quick, plus all the guidelines are easy to understand so I know what I can and can't sell. Here is a page of FAQ's that might answer a few questions you're thinking of now :)

So...a quick look back to my pricing comparison. I spent $98 yet I sold a good majority of what I consigned and made $120. That means I not only got everything for my daughter FREE but also MADE money all while shopping! Now it doesn't always turn out this awesome, sometimes I spend more than I make and sometimes I don't bother consigning at all (I lose track of time) but when I put a little effort into it I can really save big.

Interested yet? I can't say it enough, go to Rhea Lana's website and find a event location near you. Even if you have second thoughts just go for the experience, go and see for yourself! Go browse through the many racks of children's clothing, sort through the toys and books, take a glance at the furniture for sale...all at affordable prices that help you save and still get everything you need! You find top quality, name brand items in great to new condition plus Rhea Lana's does not allow any recalled items, broken toys, etc. so that helps eliminate those worries. With everyone trying to live off such a small budget lately, saving any way you can definitely helps and it just doesn't get better than Rhea Lana's when it comes to things for the little ones!!

For those of you from Arkansas, the Spring sale in West Little Rock is coming up in March:

I finally had to wave the white flag and give in...I started getting sick at the beginning of last week and by Friday I was miserable. I thought I could take on the slight cold with simple over the counter meds, I was wrong...so very wrong. I spent the entire weekend in bed, my computer was never even turned out. I had my stock of medicine, my vicks vapor rub, my box of tissues and even a pile of dvds to keep me company (that is when Abby was willing to share the dvd player with me). I'm still not feeling all that great but since it's Monday I knew I had to be up and about today. Hubby was a sweetheart all weekend by letting me rest but Monday morning means work for him and time for me to take on chasing Abby while sick. She didn't give me too much trouble today, she actually woke up a little stuffy herself :( I've tried really hard to stay away from her, the last thing I need is for her to catch this crud. I just wanted to pop in real quick, let everyone know that I'm still here :) just trying to get better. I hope (plan) to be back later in the week with several great reviews and giveaways for all of you!! For now, it's back to bed for me.

It's that time of year again! Blog Conference Season! This is such an exciting time for blogger's and what better way to prepare for such an important conference than with the help of Tiny Print's Business Cards. Oh yes, the all important business card that you will pass along to all the important representatives of companies you would love the opportunity to work with.

For me, it's so important to have business cards on hand to pass along. Not only at conferences but also just while out and about. You simply never know when a potential partnership will be presented and it's so much easier to pull out a business card with all the important details listed instead of scrabbling to write everything down on a scrap piece of paper...a scrap that might not seem important to someone later and very well end up in the trash. Having a nice business card with my blog's logo, contacting information and details helps me get my name out there and helps me stand out to someone, I promise someone is going to remember a professional business card over a handwritten scrap of paper.

That's why this year, I'm heading to Tiny Prints for some new business cards. My blog design has changed and I need something that helps reflect that change. Plus it's always nice to have something new and fresh! Considering there are hundreds of bloggers at the conference, I need something that helps me stand out and catch people's eye! Most important, since my speaking time with someone is possibly limited, I need to make sure all of my information is listed on the all important business card. I love Tiny Prints business card designs because they offer the space I need for my information, are heavyweight cardstock and are very professional looking!

What I love even more is that I can actually customize them! That means I don't have to settle for some stock image that somewhat but doesn't really fit the theme of my blog, I can use my blog's actual image and really stand out to those that I meet!

While I play around with my card design, I'll leave you with a few tips that work for me to help keep my cards organized. I always make sure to have a handy business card holder. Nothing worse than having all my cards just floating around in the bottom of my purse. The holder keeps them organized, neat and easy to put my hands on when I have just seconds to pass along my information. As for the thousands of business cards I receive (and yes, I mean thousands!) I try to jot down a little note on the back to help me remember something about the company/person. I'm sure you're thinking that's silly, how could I forget something like a big company. Well, not all companies I come in contact are big names, I tend to collect several for small little boutiques, boutiques that after awhile can easily start to all blend together. And what's worse, sometimes business cards just have a name and company name!! Umm hello?! How can I possibly remember what exactly this person was representing when I've talked to so many in one day. Usually after speaking with someone I take a few moments to write down a little more information, something that will clearly remind me of the company. At the end of a very long, exhausting but so much fun day, these little notes are so very helpful!

So what are you waiting for!? Head on over to Tiny Prints and get started creating your perfect business card to show off your blog!

Sandra Magsamen Valentine Collection Review & Giveaway

Valentine’s is one of my favorite holidays! It's such a fun holiday, usually filled with lots of laughter and hugs with a couple of kisses thrown in. From the adorable children with their cartoon valentine's to exchange in class to the adults exchanging roses and diamonds, it’s a holiday all about love and caring. Sure, more people think Valentine's Day is all about romance but for me, it's the little heartfelt gifts and sweet hugs & kisses from my baby that makes my day special. Roses only last so long, framed pictures of my baby's handprints and thoughtful gifts mean much more and last forever. That's why I love Sandra Magsamen 's amazing products. Sandra Magsamen has some fantastic plaques, books, bears, and more to help commemorate and share your love. I fell in love with Sandra's products a few years ago when searching for a different than normal gift. I wanted something that helped express my thoughts and feelings and I found the perfect plaque in one of her holiday collections.

The love bug craft is an easy craft for kids to make and give as a gift. I make this cute little love bug every year with my kindergarten class. If your kids are using scissors this is a great cutting exercise; if not there is some prep work involved.

Materials

Red, pink and white craft card stock

Clothes pin

Self adhesive magnet strip

Black chenille stem

Googly eyes

Paper plate

Tacky glue

Paintbrush

Red marker

Hot glue gun

Doilies (optional)

Trace (or cut out) 2 medium sized hearts (no bigger than the clothes pin) from the card stock. Trace (or cut out) 5 small hearts (about 1 inch). I like to use the other 2 colors of card stock so the kids can alternate to make a pattern. Cut 2 one inch strips from the black chenille.

Instructions

Stick the magnet strip to the back of the clothes pin

Cut out medium hearts (if done by adult, skip to step 3)

Glue the points of the medium hearts together

Glue the medium hearts to the center of the front of the clothes pin

Cut out small hearts (if done by adult, skip to step 6)

Glue 4 of the hearts together, hearts flowing the same direction, glue the point of the 5th heart to the point of the last heart.

Paint glue on the entire clothes pin (over the medium wings) and attach the small hearts to the clothes pin

Glue googly eyes on the love bug’s head

Draw a mouth on the face

Adult will hot glue the black chenille stems on the back of the love bugs head for antenna. (You can add doilies to the wings of the love bug)

Send the Love Bug to someone special with a sweet Valentine picture.

I just came across this idea when looking online for new things to do for Valentine’s Day crafts. I wasn’t so sure it would work, so I grabbed my kids and we played around to see how it would really work. After all, we all know some things sound better on paper! What we ended up with is a really cute idea that I think I will expound on for Valentine’s Day. The picture I included is our print on paper but I am going to use this idea to make a wooden wall hanging for the Grandparents. Below is what you will need to create the wooden wall hanging.

Items needed:

Wood- any shape and size to use as the base for your wall hanging.

Acrylic paint-red, black, and pink

Ribbon –color of your choice

Hot glue gun

Paint pens- color of your choice

Instructions:

Have children use their hands to make a heart-pinky side of hand. (Think about how tweens make hearts with their hands to show their love for Justin Beiber- that’s the way it should look!)

Using paint of your choosing, paint the heart shape on the outside of your child’s hand.

Place firmly on wood.

Repeat for each child.

After prints have dried, write child’s name and age under each heart. If child is old enough, have them write their own name.

On the top of the wood, either you or your child can write with the paint pen, “From our hands to your heart” Happy Valentine’s Day insert name here!

Use the hot glue gun to secure the ribbon in triangle fashion for hanging on the wall. Wrap and give to that special someone on your child’s life!

This is super fun activity to do with kids of all ages but the older the better because of the use of the iron. If attempting with younger kids, just make sure they realize you are the only one able to do the parts that involve the iron. These turn out beautifully and each on is different. Hang in a window or near a light and they really do look like stained glass.

Items Needed:

Waxed paper

Crayon shavings in the colors of your choice

Scissors

Iron

Hole punch

Ribbon

Instructions:

Lay out a piece of wax paper on an old towel (This protects your counter).

Place crayon shavings on the wax paper.

Lay another piece of wax paper on top.

Place a paper towel or another old towel on top of this wax paper (This protects your iron).

Place iron on top of towel on low heat, rubbing gently for a few seconds until wax is completely melted.

Remove top towel and let cool completely.

Cut wax paper into a heart shape, punch a hole in the top and add ribbon.

Hang in a window or near a light and enjoy your very own stained glass heart!

This is a sweet and simple activity that is sure to be a great gift for anyone on Valentine’s Day. I am using these as gifts for my husband from the kids but these would be great to make in school or church to give as parent or grandparent gifts.

Items needed:

Printed out copy of poem

Washable paint in color of your choice (I chose red for Valentine’s Day)

Construction paper

Glue

Scissors

Instructions:

Print out poem below in the font and size of your choice.

Make sure to change name and date to your child. If your child is old enough to write leave the name off and allow them to write their own name on the bottom.

Paint child’s handprints and place on paper around the poem.

Cut out hearts in different colors using construction paper and glue around the paper.

Back with a darker piece of paper to make stand out. (I used black.)

Poem:

Sometimes you get discouraged

Because I am so small

And always leave my fingerprints

On furniture and walls

But every day I'm growing --

I'll be grown some day

And all those tiny handprints

Will surely fade away

So here's a little handprint

Just so you can recall

Exactly how my fingers looked

When I was very small

Put a date here

Love, put child's name here

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Kids

With Valentine’s Day just a few weeks away, it’s time to start thinking about what you may want to give the little ones in your life. As a mom of three kids, there have been many years that I have waited until the very last minute and ended up buying stuffed animals and candy that are really just things that have no sentimental value. Instead of giving my children something just so they will have a gift, I have decided to only give them things that are truly special.

One great idea that I plan on doing this year is to create a love book for each of my children. By using one of the many photography websites available I can create a very special book that is unique to each child that they can treasure for years to come. If your children are anything like mine, they love to read, and to have a book with their pictures and special words from Mommy and Daddy is sure to be a treasured gift.

Another idea is to plan a special date night. Maybe create a card that shows all you have planned and even wrap up the tickets to the movie or a special necklace to wear on her special date night.

My husband did this last year with my daughter and she still talks about how fun it was. She was able to get all dressed up and pick her favorite restaurant. They had dinner and then she got to pick one store to go to get a prize. She of course, chose a toy store and a paper doll kit! After shopping they went to a movie and just really enjoyed the time with just the two of them.

Now that our son is older, I plan to do the same thing with him as a Mommy and son date night. I have a feeling our date night may be a little more adventurous. Whatever you choose to do with your child, whether small or extravagant, what is most important is to make sure your child knows just how much they are loved.

However, my hair forces me to stock up on hairspray because it loves to be frizzy, staticy, and of course have tons of pesky fly aways. I dread all these insanely windy days we have had lately, wind = my hair being a total fly away mess! A recent photo shoot with Abby on a windy day proved to me that I needed to consider a better hairspray than what I was using, I needed something to help keep my hair in place so I don't have to worry with it while I'm busy fussing over Abby. I was beyond thrilled when I found out I would be given the chance to review Freeze It Fast Drying Mega Freeze Hairspray.

I was pretty impressed with the results of Freeze It Fast Drying Mega Freeze Hairspray, it kept my thin little frizzies in place even on a major windy day. It kept my hair out of my face and helped my hair look nice for photos instead of me having that crazy wind blown look. While I don't see myself using this hairspray everyday, I am a stay at home mom...my hair is normally tossed in a ponytail, I do like to have it on hand for times like family portraits, windy days I have to be outside, etc. It would be especially wonderful for those that dance, cheer, tumble or do pageants. I danced when I was younger, I remember all the millions of cans of hairspray we went through. If we had Freeze It Fast Drying Mega Freeze Hairspray I doubt we would have had to use to much! This hairspray would be perfect for keeping curls and updos in place for cheer competitions, pageants, dance competitions, even just cheering at a football game!

Here are a few interesting qualities of Freeze It:

Humidity resistant

Quick drying

UV protection

Extreme freeze hold

Non-sticky and non-flaking

Water free

Enriched with panthenol vitamin B5

Another reason I love this can of hairspray? Did you notice the awesome pink design on the bottle? Freeze It has teamed up with the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and sales of their special edition pink can will go to benefit the foundation! I think that is so awesome and I love supporting charitable companies!

I'm sure those of you with little brothers are possibly already giggling. Oh yes, my little brother loved blocks. He started with the huge prime colored Duplo blocks and advanced to the thousand piece Lego sets. The blocks were quickly renamed "land mines" and I ended up with my fair share of cuts on the bottom of my feet.

Fast forward many years and my brother seems to still be out to get my poor feet. For Christmas he bought Abby her first set of Duplo blocks...let the "land mine" fun and sore feet begin!

Abby loves her blocks, she didn't seem too interested at first but they have become her favorite toy over the weekend. She even decided to leave me a little surprise for when I got ready to put on my shoes...

yep...she loves mommy so much she filled mommy's boot with blocks! At least it kept her entertained during the severe weather. oh yes dear brother, revenge will be mine when you eventually have little ones lol ♥

My Blog got a Makeover!!

I am LOVING my new blog design! I decided end of last year that it was time for something different. I loved my old design, I just felt like it wasn't me anymore nor did it feel right for my blog anymore. I blame it on everything I went through last year, I changed and just felt the need to change up my blog. I wanted something bright, pretty, still somewhat child-like. I wanted something that I had no clue how to describe. One night while sitting on Facebook bored I came across a post for Wacky Jacqui's Designs announcing a special for blogger. I checked out her blog and looked through her portfolio of work, yet I wasn't sure I was ready to make the change.

Well, after much thought I decided to go for it! I took advantage of her special, sent her several emails and was on my way to a new design. She was so patient with all my questions (I am shocked I didn't drive her crazy lol) and even helped point me in the right direction. She listened to what I described, listened to where the inspiration for my blog comes from as well as my reasons for change. She was really quick to answer emails and the blog design came along quickly.

The outcome....perfect! The new look feels refreshing to me and just bright and cheery. Let me know what you think!! I really want to hear what you have to say :)

...please excuse the mess while I finish rearranging everything. We had severe storms move through tonight and I was away from the computer for quite some time.

The Night of April 25, 2011...

In Arkansas, you just never know what the weather is going to do. Here it is January and we have had Spring like temperatures pretty much all month. We go from being in the 30's one day to mid 60's the next. While the insane temps are annoying, I can pretty much deal with it. What I don't want to deal with is what is in the forecast for later today/tonight. Severe storms with possibility of tornadoes. I've lived in AR almost my entire life, tornadoes are just a part of life here. However, after experiencing my first one last year, that one was more than enough to last me a lifetime.

It's been almost a year since that night, I've realized here lately that I never shared what happened on my blog. Seems odd that I didn't, I usually share all major events on here. Perhaps I didn't share because things were so crazy afterwards, perhaps time simply got away from me and I became busy with other things, or perhaps I just couldn't stand to think about it long enough to put thoughts/feelings into words. I still have nightmares of that night, I've actually had several nightmares here lately. I'm especially on edge today because what NOAA is saying about tonight's storms is quite similar to what they were saying the day the tornado hit.

Last year on April 25th we were expecting severe weather. I had the diaper bag, my purse and a small bag already in the hall, I had my flashlight ready along with tons of pillows to help protect us. My phone was charged and the TV was being flipped back and forth between my two favorite news stations. It was just after dinner when all the storms starting rolling into our area. I remember the weather man cutting to an image of a storm forming out in West Little Rock, it definitely looked like trouble and it was heading our way. At the time we lived on base, hubby kept going out the door to watch the weather with another one of the guys from the maintenance department. I watched as the weather man reported a tornado ripping through the town of Vilonia which is just above the base, basically taking out the entire town. I watched as devastating images were shown and live calls were aired of speaking with local policemen on scene. The last I remember before the tornado hit base was the weather man reporting once again on the storm that was morning towards us, it was then in North Little Rock. I remember the channel cutting back to reports of the damage in Vilonia. I was holding Abby and walked to the door to try and find hubby. I remember the wind blowing and suddenly seeing all the neighbors (all the men were outside watching the storm...typical men) running to their house and suddenly hubby was running towards me, shoving me and telling me to just go. I made it to the end of the hallway, our storm spot (yes I know a bathroom is better but with the way our house was set up, the hallway was better), when the lights went out. I remember calling my mom and asking her what was going on, she kept telling me that it was going above us...I remember yelling that it wasn't going above us, it was ON US! I sat down with Abby, trying to keep her calm, gathering the pillows and blankets up and got ready. Hubby waited a few and went back to the door to see what was happening (again...typical man has to see everything). He left the front door open and I remember the wind was so fierce, it was making all the other doors rattle (all to the hallway were closed). Within minutes it was over, it was pitch black and I had no idea what had happened. I got a text from a friend saying that all the trees on her street were down so I told hubby. Since he was housing maintenance he decided to head out with the other maintenance guy to check out the damage. It was probably 30minutes later he came back...he just had this look on his face...he said it was bad, really bad. He changed into uniform so he could help. While maintenance was being called in to help, only military personnel were being allowed in some areas to help. Hubby wanted to be helpful so he changed and went back out. I got Abby settled into bed and pulled out all my candles, I knew we were in for a long night. At some point someone came by the house to check on us, they were walking around to knocking on doors to make sure everyone was okay. The tornado hit around 8pm...it was around 2am when hubby made it home...

With morning came light, which brought with it the reality of the destruction the tornado left behind. While many of us knew it was bad, seeing it in daylight was heartbreaking. Houses gone, cars upside down, trees completely uprooted. Instead of a normal day for housing maintenance of doing typical maintenance calls, they all spent the day with chainsaws, moving debris and picking up the mess. Abby and I went out to help deliver lunch to everyone working to clean up the storm damage. I helped drive while one of the housing ladies handed out pizza. I got to see first hand the devastating damage. I have friends who lost everything, houses completely destroyed, everything lost but thankfully everyone was okay. I remember attending meetings, how they called it Miracle Monday because although so much was lost, no lives were lost. The tornado pretty much only went through the housing area and close to the commissary, it also took out half of the high school that sits just outside the base. Within about a week you really couldn't tell anything happened...until you drove to the housing area. The storm showed just how a tornado can do damage, how it can leave the roof on one side of a two story house duplex but completely take off the other side.

I've always heard stories and watched stories on the news, never had I seen it first hand before now. Slowly power was restores, everyone was moved to a new house and slowly life returned to normal.

Out of the devastation of the storm, what was uplifting to me was seeing everyone come together as a community. Everyone was helping, after the storm everyone was helping to make sure others were okay and safe, they helped pull families who were trapped out of houses, then the next day the streets were flooded with people trying to help others salvage what they could, helping those displaced load up what could be saved and move it to storage, everyone was helping to move debris and it was truly wonderful to see everyone helping so much.

It's been a year almost...aside for a few houses still needing repair you wouldn't really know a storm came through. Those that are new to the base hear the stories from those that lived it. Those of us that were there that night get nervous every time severe storms with possible tornadoes is predicted for our area.

Many of you noticed I disappeared from my blog for a little while last Spring, some of you even contacted me through email to make sure things were okay. Now you all know where I went. You are probably wondering why I'm sharing this now, I guess the main reason is because I'm so nervous about the impending severe weather tonight that I needed an outlet. I needed to cry and let myself face things again for a few moments. To write things out is often helpful for me.

One thing I do encourage, if you have severe weather in your area don't wait until the last minute to prepare. Get things ready ahead of time...storms are unpredictable and can be upon you in the matter of seconds. Take a moment to plan your storm area, where will you go in your house to be safe from the storm. Have pillows and blankets in that area to help protect you. Since I have a little once I always make sure to stock her diaper bag with diapers, wipes, snacks, an extra sippy cup, bottle of water, medicine and anything else she might need. Add some favorite toys to the pile, these help distract little ones and help keep them happy. Also grab those favorite items your little one is highly attached to, if something were to happen you don't want them going without their special blankie or lovie. I have my lockbox of important documents that I always make sure to grab, of course I grab my purse and I always stick my huge pile of thumb drives in my purse (I always back up my pictures!). Make sure your flashlight has good batteries, make sure your phone is charged, I recommend getting a NOAA weather radio to help keep you updated. Sure, the internet and news stations are great but once power is out you are left in the dark when it comes to updates as to what the weather is doing.

Spring is right around the corner which means it's storm season for us. It's only January but I guess we are getting an early start this year :( I'm going to gather up a few things and just keep my fingers crossed that the worst of the storms stay away from us tonight.

**The picture at the beginning of the post was taken from a weathercam of a hospital in West Little Rock. This is an actual picture of the tornado that hit. Other pictures posted were taken the day after the storm. I am not posting many pictures, the pictures are heartbreaking to look at. Plus I really don't have many, while I took a few...I couldn't bring myself to take pictures of such terrible sights.

My Baby Clothes Review & Giveaway

I know I'll definitely be buying several Valentine items soon, either for my little sweetheart or several other sweet little girls I know. I trust in My Baby Clothes, the clothes are great quality and the fit is just right. I have learned to go with the bigger size for Abby just because she grows so fast.

When I was offered the chance to review an outfit, I decided to go with something that would work great for New Year's as well as fun events throughout January along with being pretty with pink for February. I wanted a pop of color to help brighten up the winter days (okay, not like we're having much of a winter BUT you know what I had in mind). Although hubby isn't a fan of leopard prints, I chose the Bonnie Jean Fuzzy Gray Leopard Print Dress and Pant Set. It looked super cute, the gray such a soft pretty color and I love the pop of pink in the flowers. I went with the 3T just to be on the safe side and when it arrived I loved the outfit even more. It was so much prettier in person, the flowers are so bright and the whole outfit is super soft. I couldn't wait for Abby to wear it and take pictures of her!

She looked absolutely adorable in this outfit! She loved it, had a wonderful time running around in it and the flowers never bothered her one bit. They didn't even get in the way of the carseat straps which was something I worried about. The dress fit perfectly, a little long but she has plenty of growing room and I can see this dress lasting for quite a while! It's definitely a new favorite and a great choice! So glad I didn't listen to hubby and his whole "no leopard print" rule lol even he had to agree that it's a cute outfit.

Shhh! Don't tell hubby but I'm heading to www.mybabyclothes.com now to do a little more shopping, Abby needs a cute tutu to wear for her birthday pictures! :)

If you are like me, you have tons of pictures from the past couple of months. Numerous family holiday portraits, pictures from fun family outings to holiday events, lots of candids from all the family being together and of course the priceless photos of your little one opening their gifts Christmas morning. I'm a huge photo bug, I can't help but always have my camera in hand to capture all of life's little moments. What this means for me, TONS of pictures that I want to display. The challenging part is finding fun, unique ways to display these pictures. Sure, I can buy a great frame for each picture but for me...that gets a little boring. I like to think a little outside the box (in this case, outside the frame). That's why I was so thrilled when I was contacted by Easy Canvas Prints to work with them on a review! A new way to display my cherished moments and to add a something different to our decor.

When I finally managed to select the photo to use (incredibly hard, I have so many!) I went to Easy Canvas Prints website to get started creating my canvas. From the main page I clicked "start your canvas" and was taken to a page with all the different canvas sizes available. I love how there's a display with a couch that helps you visualize how your canvas will look on the wall. At first I figured I would go with the basic 8x10 size but when I got to playing around with all the different sizes in comparison to the couch, I realized I wanted a slightly bigger size to accommodate a particular place on the wall where I planned to put the canvas. Once I chose the size I wanted, I was taken to the next page to upload my photo. Another impressive tool, there's a photo quality bar that helps advise whether or not your picture will be good print quality. All of these tools makes creating the canvas so simple! While uploading my picture I realize that I need a portrait size canvas instead of landscape. I started to get slightly frustrated until I went back to the page with all the canvas sizes and noticed the custom size option at the bottom of the list. Problem solved! Back to editing. Picture uploaded and checked for fit and I was on to the next page where I was given the option of selecting my border. I ended up going with the Mirror Image option and was suddenly at the final proofing. I couldn't believe how very simple the entire process was. I loved all the different sizes/options available, all the different tools available to make sure I got the right size as well as a picture with great print quality.

With my canvas created and ordered, all I had left to do was wait. The estimated shipping was a reasonable time frame and I was pleasantly surprised when my canvas arrived ahead of schedule. The canvas has been a wonderful addition to our decor, the colors are rich and it always gets attention when we have guests.

Here is a picture of my review canvas (my camera does NOT do the colors justice, they are so much brighter and prettier in person).

I was so pleased with my canvas that I have already purchased another one! I signed up for emails when I ordered my review canvas so I'm always notified of discount specials. I decided to take advantage of a holiday special and order another family canvas to display. Here is the newest addition to our wall decor (it just arrived so we haven't hung it up yet):

Canvas prints are definitely my new favorite way to display pictures and I absolutely love Easy Canvas Prints website and product quality. I know I'll be ordering several more through out the year, not only are they great decor items but also will make fantastic gifts! Visit www.easycanvasprints.com to take a look around the website, learn more and get started creating your own unique piece of art!

Oh yes, tonight is the night! The big game between LSU and Alabama! I have heard absolutely nothing else but talk of this game for a week now. I'm not much of a football fan but I can't help but get into the games this season, LSU is 13-0 and now it's the BIG game, the National Championship and we're facing off against Alabama for the second time.

I'll probably work on a few blog posts while hubby screams at the TV, as exciting as the game will be I just can't sit still for all of it. I'll join him for the 4th quarter lol

Back when we faced up again AR the day after Thanksgiving I had my friend from Adorable Creations by Julie make Abby a super cute outfit to wear. My family is from AR and are all huge AR fans so the rivalry during the big AR/LSU game is always tons of fun. Since hubby is all about LSU then of course Abby should be supporting the Tigers! Here's a few pictures from that game day:

Isn't the outfit super cute?! I was so thrilled when I picked it up and then was even happier when I put it on Abby. It's adorable and I LOVE the bottom of the pants. Absolutely PERFECT for game day! And lucky for us the weather decided to cool back off so she can wear it again to support her Tigers again for the championship game.

Well, I have a roast cooking for dinner, a load of laundry in the washer and dryer and a few things to work on so I'll leave y'all with the LSU Championship Bounce :) and a little "RAWR GEAUX TIGERS" from Abby :)

Go Camping with Barbie and Her Friends

Measuring approximately 22 by 12 inches (W x H), the Barbie camper has plenty of space to house several dolls and the dog plus the included furniture and accessories. Sturdy and durable, this camper comes pre-assembled with four wheels that roll smoothly on both carpet and floors. There's room for two dolls to be strapped in with plastic seat belts in the front and plenty of space inside the camper for Barbie's sisters and friends to hang out. Accessories include 11 kitchen pieces, 12 pieces of silverware, and a full sheet of stickers of things like food, placemats, wall clock, and a garbage can to give the camper a real-life feel.

Fully Furnished Camper with Fun Features

The top of the camper pops up via a large sliding button on the side to reveal space to hang two curtains trimmed with ribbon and the hammocks. Our testers loved the pretty pink and blue stripes and ribbons on the curtains--a nice, homey detail. There's also plenty of room for one doll to fit on each hammock without pulling them down off their rods and hooks. A built-in bike rack at the rear holds a bike (sold separately) when everyone's ready to get back on the road.

Another sliding side button lets you open the side door down to reveal a pink seat and mounted flat-screen TV. The back door swings open when pushed, but our testers found that it gets caught halfway around unless the toilet seat is lifted up. But once this door is opened, it reveals a hidden lavatory with standing shower stall.

Easy Assembly--No Tools or Batteries Required

Parents will need to help with initial assembly of the furniture as well as the hanging of the curtains and hammocks. Little hands may need assistance using the sliding buttons as well.

Building the kitchenette area is relatively easy thanks to a pre-assembled stove/oven unit and clear visual directions. No hardware or batteries are required. All ages are sure to love placing the decorative stickers in the camper; our testers appreciated the easy-to-follow numbered pictures of where to put what. Little ones can also learn the correct way to set a table by placing the plates, silverware, mugs, and water bottles in the right spot. The Jacuzzi pops onto the interior of the side door once it's opened and can be filled with water for splashing fun. When it's time to pack up, everything fits inside the camper for fast and easy cleanup.

What's in the Box

Pre-assembled camper, kitchenette, Jacuzzi tub, stickers, bag of silverware, bag of pots, cups, and plates, toilet lid, shower curtain, two hammocks, two hammock curtains, dog figure, dog bed, fold-out bed with blankets, kitchenette seat, tabletop, and instructions.

I love this time of year! The holiday cheer, the festive lights, the real meaning of Christmas, this has always been my favorite time of year. One of my favorite things about this time of year is all the wonderful holiday traditions we share as a family. From picking out the perfect Christmas tree to driving around looking at lights, even all the wonderful holiday baking. An important tradition in my family is Hallmark's Keepsake Ornaments. Every year, for as long as I can remember, we received a Hallmark Keepsake Ornament selected specifically for us. Years ago my parents selected a collection for my sister, brother and myself. They selected a collection that represented our likes and carry on the tradition of giving us that special ornament even now. On top of our collection, as we grew older we would select a special ornament for each year. A Hallmark Keepsake Ornament that represented that year, that helped remind us of special memories. Anything from being newly weds to our new home to being pregnant and of course baby's first Christmas. Each ornament has special meaning for us and it's a family tradition I have started now with my own lil family. Each year I select an ornament for hubby and myself and now I help pick one out for Abby.

Picking out a special Hallmark Keepsake Ornament for Abby this year was so easy, she absolutely adores Mickey and Minnie Mouse so when I saw this Minnie ornament I just knew it was perfect for her!

The night we decorated the tree Abby carefully watched what I did and even tried to help just a little, she was fascinated with all the pretty ornaments. Then I got out her special ornament and oh my was she thrilled!! "Min-ne, Min-ne" is all I hear now! Every day Abby walks over to the tree, points and says "Min-ne" then giggles, I love that we were able to add such a special ornament to the tree and even if Minnie isn't a favorite next year, getting this ornament out will simply remind us of all the wonderful memories of this year.

Have you included Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments to your family traditions? Transform your Christmas tree from a holiday decoration to a “family tree.” With more than 300 new Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments to choose from, you can tell your family’s story on every branch. Reminisce over old times, celebrate “firsts,” and capture your kids’ passions (even if it will embarrass them 20 years from now!) If you haven't yet, take a moment to visit Hallmark's website and take a look at all the wonderful ornaments available. It's never too late to start a treasured holiday tradition that will last for years to come!

Another Hallmark tradition that is new for my family is the Hallmark Recordable Storybooks. I love to read to Abby and the Hallmark Recordable Storybooks adds a special touch to each story. Instead of me simply sitting and reading to her, we are able to record either hubby or myself reading the story to her. This way, if she wants to hear us read her a story she can at any time she likes. Adding the Hallmark Recordable Storybooks to our bedtime routine has special meaning to my family, with hubby in the military there are many times he isn't home for months at a time. This wonderful recordable storybook allows him to read the story to Abby even when he's miles away from us. It allows her to hear her daddy's voice whenever she wants (or needs) to and it helps being him "home" for storytime even when he can't actually be here. These recordable storybooks are perfect for any family where a parent has to be away from home...especially military families. A few more important points about these wonderful storybooks:

* Whether you’re far away or side-by-side, you can always share a Christmas story with loved ones, thanks to Hallmark Recordable Storybooks. This year, Hallmark Recordable Storybooks not only record a reader’s voice directly into the book; they now feature music!

* You can read or sing one of six holiday classics — including three new titles —and participate in holiday story time with loved ones even if distance causes them to be apart.

* Hallmark also offers more than 15 any day titles, such as Goodnight Moon, Disney’s Lightning McQueen, and All the Ways I Love You, allowing your gift to keep giving any day of the year.

We received "Counting Kisses" to review and I decided to let hubby record this one. With his training coming up soon, it would be wonderful to still have him "read" Abby her bedtime story. He recorded it late last night so I decided to try it out today as we were winding down for nap time. Abby was delighted to have her daddy "read" her a story even when he was gone to work today. She's been sick in bed and she's such a daddy's girl, I could tell it really made her day. "Counting Kisses" is such an adorable storybook, Abby was giggling as she listened to her daddy's voice. He really enjoyed being able to record the story for her, he loves the recordable storybook idea and has already picked out several he plans to get Abby before he deploys.

And just in case you're like me and like to spread cheer all year long (who needs a holiday just to make someone smile!) then you will love this:

* Hallmark wants to make it easier and faster for you to spread holiday cheer to loved ones. At Hallmark.com, you can create and send personalized holiday paper cards from the comfort of your own home (you can make the cards in your pajamas if you want)!

*Simply pick your favorite holiday card design, customize it with a photo and a personal message, upload your address book, and Hallmark will do the rest! From addressing and stamping to mailing your season’s greetings, Hallmark has it all under control.

So what are you waiting for!! Christmas is quickly approaching and it's the perfect time to be enjoying all kinds of wonderful holiday traditions! Best of all, Hallmark has generously offered one lucky reader then chance to win their very own Hallmark Keepsake Ornament and Hallmark Recordable Storybook to help create their own memorable family holiday moments/traditions!
