The Dark Knight Rises couldn’t steal the opening weekend record away from The Avengers, which established an insanely high bar when it debuted to $207.4 million in May.

On the other hand, Nolan’s first installment, Batman Begins, opened slowly but went on to earn a very respectable $205.3 million. Three years later, sequel The Dark Knight pitted Batman against his most-famous foe, The Joker. The anticipation of seeing that conflict play out in Nolan’s universe was only amplified by Heath Ledger’s untimely death, and the movie went on to set a record with an incredible $158.4 million debut.

The Dark Knight Rises achieved a $160 million debut.

First, it is correct, it was so obvious that while Iron Man, Thor and Captain America were fighting, Loki didn’t run away and just waited to be trapped.

Poor Hulk, he didn’t know about Coulson’s death. The details are some plot moments that helped them a lot like Odin being able to send Thor back to Earth, the professor closing the portal, and all the Chitauris dying at the same time.

It is really funny to see all The Avengers sharing the table with Superman and Batman in the coffeehouse. And they are eating Shawarma, like in the post credits scene.

I’m not jealous. I’m Batman.

Chitauris Escene

Two Chitauri buddies discuss their life in the evil alien army. They are happy that they only have to worry about six people fighting against them, and both of them decide to make a clever change of plans, instead of just shooting with no reason, they will go to protect the Tesseract (none of the Chitauris did this in the film )

No matter what, there is always a Stan Lee cameo in the main Marvel movies. Already a tradition, the creator of Spider-Man was also present in The Amazing Spider-Man, in a brief scene where a librarian working at the school of Peter.

The scene consists in this gentleman using noise-canceling headphones, and while listening to classical music he is not aware of the big fight between Spider-Man and the Lizard. He is almost hit by a table, but nothing happens

This is the scene showed in the middle of the credits after the end of The Amazing Spider-Man, almost an after credits sequence.

We see Dr. Curt Connors (The Lizard) walking inside his prison. Inside the cell, he sits alone, but he hears a voice of a cloaked man who appears between two slivers of moonlight.

He says: Did you tell him about his father?

He is wearing a hat.

Connors says that he told young Peter nothing about his father, Richard Parker, and nobly pleads that Peter be left alone. The shrouded man quickly disappears with another strike of lightning.

The scene is brief, but there may be some clues.

We don’t know who is this person. It can be the second personality that Connors developed (he listened to an evil voice when he transformed in the giant lizard), so it could be a manifestation of his mind.

But, maybe, it’s a real person, probably the sick Norman Orborn, who is very aware of the destiny of Peter’s father. Since Amazing Spider-Man will have a sequel, it is very likely that we are looking at the new villain. But the mystery will remind until the new movie arrives in 2014.

Some fans say that the hat is the main clue, because of that he could be Dr. Angst, an agent of Norman Osborn, who specialize in Psychology.

It’s intentionally mysterious, and I invite speculation. I like this idea that Oscorp is this Tower of Babel. And every crazy thing in the universe somehow relates to Oscorp.

Rhys Ifans, the actor who plays Connors, says:

Connors is sent to an asylum, and he’s visited by, shall we say, a representative from Oscorp.

Cern scientists reporting from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have claimed the discovery of a new particle consistent with the Higgs boson.

The particle has been the subject of a 45-year hunt to explain how matter attains its mass.

Both of the Higgs boson-hunting experiments at the LHC see a level of certainty in their data worthy of a “discovery”.

More work will be needed to be certain that what they see is a Higgs, however.

The results announced at Cern (European Organization for Nuclear Research), home of the LHC in Geneva, were met with loud applause and cheering.

Prof Peter Higgs, after whom the particle is named, wiped a tear from his eye as the teams finished their presentations in the Cern auditorium.

“I would like to add my congratulations to everyone involved in this achievement,” he added later.

Marvel has officially released the First Concept Art for Iron Man 3, for its promotion in San Diego Comic-Con 2012 (July 12th). The drawing by Ryan Meinerding shows Tony Stark in what appears to be segments of his new golden armor, and surrounded by armed men.

Disney have just released the first official photo of Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, she is wearing the horns like the original character, the villain from the Fairy Tale Sleeping Beauty (1959).

Maleficent reveals the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora.

Directed by two-time Oscar-winning production designer Robert Stromberg (Avatar, Alice in Wonderland), in his directorial debut, and written by Linda Woolverton (The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast).

Co-starring in the film are Sharlto Copley (District 9), Elle Fanning (Super 8), Sam Riley (On the Road), Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake), Miranda Richardson (The Hours), Juno Temple (Atonement) and Lesley Manville (Secrets & Lies).

Maleficent is scheduled for a March 14, 2014 release in 3D.

These videos show the mobility and features of this quadsuit, which has lots of new ideas not seen in other quads.

Fabrication: It was built with a special PVC frame with full harness unit, moving pivot neck, double jointed stilts for extra movement, fully detachable as the wings/tail/arm stilts and back feet can be detached for packing.

The person inside can be on all fours or switch to being on 2 legs. A 4″ cpu fan kept cools the suit. The skin material is jo-ann fabrics and a micro-suede material, claws are molded from featherlight plastic, large spines are sanded down foam mat material.

Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury in The Avengers) is joining the cast of MGM’s RoboCop reboot, which begins filming this September 2012. Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) is set to star as cop Alex Murphy, while Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon in Chris Nolan’s Batman films) will play Murphy’s scientist-creator Norton.

Samuel L. Jackson will play Pat Novak, “a charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the RoboCop world.” Jose Padilha is set to direct the reboot, which will be produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman.

Jackson is currently filming Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained.
RoboCop will be released on August 3rd, 2013.

This is (as the title says) a Fa-Made Star Trek 2 Teaser Trailer for the J.J. Abrams movie scheduled to be released in 2013. This video has the feeling of Abrams mysterious style and creates more hype.

The Star Trek franchise continues with this follow-up to 2009’s reboot. J.J. Abrams returns to direct from a script by Damon Lindelof, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The cast and crew of the Enterprise come back for a second tour of duty along with acclaimed actor Benedict Cumberbatch making his Trek debut as their most daunting threat yet, the rumours says he will be Khan.

Snow White and the Huntsman attracted strong interest on opening day, and wound up earning more than the next six movies combined. Meanwhile, Men in Black 3 had a decent hold in second place, while The Avengers passed two major milestones.

The Avengers eased 42 percent to $5.65 million. That was enough to push the movie past The Dark Knight ($533.3 million) to claim third place on the all-time domestic chart with $538.1 million. The movie also moved ahead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 to take third on the all-time worldwide chart with $1.331 billion. That’s as high as The Avengers will go—there’s no way it catches James Cameron’s Avatar and Titanic—but it will wind up way over $1.4 billion before its run is over.

The budget for Iron Man 3 has been increased from $140 million to $200 million following the box office success of The Avengers. The success of the superhero ensemble has apparently resulted in Marvel Studio deciding to spend a lot more on the next solo movie, and director Shane Black has been tasked with not only making the best Iron Man movie yet, but also the best Marvel movie too.

EW has released the first look of actress Danai Gurira as the fan favorite katana wielding character, Michonne, who will make her debut in the Season 3 of The Walking Dead series.

She actually debuted at the end of the Second Season, but only with her face hidden by a hood.

How will the live action version of Michonne differ from TWD comic?

Slightly:

The essence of the character — her personality, her motives, everything that makes Michonne Michonne — remains intact from the comics. But like a lot of things on the show, there will be little tweaks and differences here and there. We saw that her introduction is slightly different from how it was in the comic, and her interaction with Andrea is really going to be a really cool addition to the character that I think will get television viewers up to speed, and they will get to know her a lot faster than comic book readers did.

In our first meeting Kevin Feige (President of Production of Marvel Studios) said, this is what we’re gonna do and I said, Oh but you have to go out there and tell everybody that it was your idea because this is going to get me so much shit. Because they are all going to be like, Oh he did it again! It was stipulated from the beginning, and I completely agree that it was the right thing to do, and so did Clark. Who said in the early days, when I was busy apologizing for it, In a movie like this, with what’s going on if there isn’t some toll, it’s just irresponsible story telling.

Saroo Brierley was only 5 years old when he got lost. He was traveling with his older brother, working as a sweeper on India’s trains.

It was late at night. We got off the train, and I was so tired that I just took a seat at a train station, and I ended up falling asleep.

That fateful nap would determine the rest of his life.

I thought my brother would come back and wake me up but when I awoke he was nowhere to be seen. I saw a train in front of me and thought he must be on that train. So I decided to get on it and hoped that I would meet my brother.

Saroo did not meet his brother on the train. Instead, he fell asleep and had a shock when he woke up 14 hours later. Though he did not realize it at first, he had arrived in Calcutta, India’s third biggest city and notorious for its slums.

I was absolutely scared. I didn’t know where I was. I just started to look for people and ask them questions.

It was a very scary place to be. I don’t think any mother or father would like to have their five year old wandering alone in the slums and trains stations of Calcutta.

The little boy became a beggar, one of the many children begging on the streets of the city.

I had to be quite careful. You could not trust anyone. Once I was approached by a man who promised me food and shelter and a way back home. But he looked very suspicious. Ultimately I think he was going to do something not nice to me, so I ran away.

Saroo was taken in by an orphanage, which put him up for adoption. He was adopted by the Brierleys, a couple from Tasmania.

I accepted that I was lost and that I could not find my way back home, so I thought it was great that I was going to Australia.

Saroo settled down well in his new home. But as he got older the desire to find his birth family became increasingly strong. The problem was that as an illiterate five-year-old he had not known the name of the town he had come from. All he had to go on were his vivid memories. So he began using Google Earth to search for where he might have been born.

Eventually Saroo found a better way to guess where his home could be:

I multiplied the time I was on the train, about 14 hours, with the speed of Indian trains and I came up with a rough distance, about 1,200km.

He drew a circle on a map with its centre in Calcutta, with its radius about the distance he thought he had travelled. Incredibly, he soon discovered what he was looking for: Khandwa.

When I found it, I zoomed down and bang, it just came up. I navigated it all the way from the waterfall where I used to play.

Soon he made his way to Khandwa. He found his way around the town with his childhood memories. Eventually he found his own home in the neighbourhood of Ganesh Talai. But it was not what he had hoped for.

When I got to the door I saw a lock on it. It look old and battered, as if no-one had lived there for quite a long time.

Saroo had a photograph of himself as a child when h ejust arrived to Tasmania (look the photo below these lines) and he still remembered the names of his family. A neighbor said that his family had moved.

Another person came and then a third person turned up, and that is when I struck gold. He said: Just wait here for a second and I shall be back. And when he did come back after a couple of minutes he said, Now I will be taking you to your mother.

I just felt numb and thought, Am I hearing what I think I am hearing?

Saroo was taken to meet his mother who was nearby. At first he did not recognise her.

The last time I saw her she was 34 years old and a pretty lady, I had forgotten that age would get the better of her. But the facial structure was still there and I recognized her and I said, Yes, you are my mother!!!

She grabbed my hand and took me to her house. She could not say anything to me. I think she was as numb as I was. She had a bit of trouble grasping that her son, after 25 years, had just reappeared like a ghost.

Although she had long feared he was dead, a fortune teller had told Saroo’s mother that one day she would see her son again.

I think the fortune teller gave her a bit of energy to live on and to wait for that day to come.

And what of the brother with whom Saroo had originally gone travelling?

Unfortunately, the news was not good. A month after he had disappeared his brother was found in two pieces on a railway track. His mother had never known whether foul play was involved or whether the boy had simply slipped and fallen under a train.

We were extremely close and when I walked out of India the tearing thing for me was knowing that my older brother had passed away.

For years Saroo Brierley went to sleep wishing he could see his mother again and his birth family. Now that he has, he feels incredibly grateful. He has kept in touch with his newly found family.

And there is something to make him sleep better, based on the gr4eat success of the film Slumdog Millionaire, several publishers and producers are getting interested to buy his incredible story and take it to the big screen.

Arjun is the first India animated film made by Disney. The movie tells the untold story of India’s greatest mythological warrior. It follows his epic adventure from youth to warrior.

The graphics looks a little bit 3D but with a 2D-look in the render, almost like a video game or like the Tv series: Transformers Beast Wars.

It’s been clear for a while that The Avengers would be a box office success, though few people could have foreseen this opening. The superhero team-up got off to an unprecedented $207.4 million start this weekend in the United States, which obliterates the previous all-time weekend record set by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 last Summer ($169.2 million).

While it fell short of setting a new opening day record (that still belongs to Potter), The Avengers was responsible for new high marks in most other major categories. It was the fastest movie ever to reach $100 million, $150 million, and $200 million, and it set new records for Saturday ($69.6 million) and Sunday ($57.1 million) grosses.

Through its first three days, The Avengers has already grossed more than Thor ($181 million), Captain America: The First Avenger ($176.6 million) and The Incredible Hulk ($134.8 million). It’s still behind Iron Man and Iron Man 2 ($318.4 million and $312.4 million, respectively), though it should pass those movies next weekend.

The incredible opening weekend gross for The Avengers is mostly the result of a lengthy, extremely effective marketing effort which began all the way back in 2008 when Nick Fury made his first appearance after the credits in the original Iron Man.

No dialogue, just a special moment of pure camaraderie.

Warner Bros. and Hollywood wants to make a Death Note life-action movie based on the famous anime Tv series. The director for this project is Shane Black, the same who is in charge to direct Iron Man 3. The film is scheduled to be released in 2014.

As shown, the Avengers are in a restaurant which is in ruins, with damaged walls, rubble and some signs are down. Bruce Banner seems to be talking loud in this conversation, Tony Stark is using his Black Sabbath t-shirt, he is listening with interest to Bruce, Hawkeye seems to be reading a magazine on his lap, Black Widow is staring at the food of Captain America who seems to be bored. Thor has lost any finesse or manners of a god and is giving a tremendous bite to his Shawarma, he is a hungry god (which we already saw in his first film).

During the movie, Tony Stark makes an offhand comment to the team that he knows of a good Shawarma (Shoarma) place nearby. The final scene closes this comment out as it shows the Avengers sitting around a table (above) eating some of the aforementioned shawarma. There is no dialog and no hints as to any new Avengers or anything cool like that.

Lets hope this is not the real After Credits Scene, I really wanted to know if Agent Coulson will survive.

Update: The video has leaked

With the video (recorded from a cinema in the U.S.) is is confirmed that the only scene After Credits is the one with the Shawarma Restaurant, without any dialogue or any look at any future villain.

In this recent interview, actor Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/The Hulk) talks about The Avengers script, some Deleted Scenes, and also reveals signed 6 picture deal with Marvel (minute 1:33).

Ruffalo talked about his reaction to reading The Avengers script for the first time, his deleted scene with actor Harry Dean Stanton, the old security guard that a naked Banner meets after falling from the Helicarrier.

In addition, Ruffalo revealed he signed a six picture deal with Marvel and he’s excited to keep making movies with them after seeing The Avengers.

The quality is not so good but we can hear somebody speaking to Thanos while he is watching planet Earth and smiling about Death (his lifetime love in the comics). The dialog speaks about humans, and if they can be ruled, he says:

While it initially appeared that scheduling conflicts would make her unavailable, it now appears that she may in fact be able to play a character described as, “a sexy scientist every bit as smart as Tony Stark.” With this short information, her character could be Maya Hansen, an old flame of Tony Stark, who plays a pivotal role in the storyline which Shane Black’s movie so far appears to be based upon.

This video shows versions of DARPA and Boston Dynamics robots climbing stairs (wearing shoes), walking on a treadmill and doing pushups. I is interesting to see how it climbs the stairs with the help of one arm.

Boston Dynamics developed the PETMAN Robot and is now adapting it for use by the DARPA Maximum Mobility and Manipulation (M3).

A modified platform resembling these robots is expected to be used as government-funded equipment (GFE) for performers in Tracks B and C of the DARPA Robotics Challenge.

The GFE Platform is expected to have two arms, two legs, a torso and a head, and will be physically capable of performing all of the tasks required for the disaster response scenarios scheduled in the Challenge.

Despite the entrance of two competitive titles to the marketplace over Easter Weekend, box office phenomenon The Hunger Games had little difficulty taking the top spot for the third-straight frame. American Reunion opened in second place, though its debut doesn’t compare favorably to earlier series entries, while Titanic 3D wound up on the low-end among 3D re-releases.

American Reunion took second place with $21.5 million from 3,192 locations. That’s much lower than the opening weekend for American Pie 2 ($45.1 million) and American Wedding ($33.4 million).

Facebook has bought the photo-sharing app Instagram Monday, for roughly $1 billion in a combination of cash and stock.

It is very likely that a lot of users that used to love Instagram and hate Facebook will start to close their accounts and will migrate to another photo sharing network and app.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the acquisition in a post on the Facebook Newsroom:

I’m excited to share the news that we’ve agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.

For years, we’ve focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we’ll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.

We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. But in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram’s strengths and features rather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.

That’s why we’re committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.

The sale is expected to close later this quarter, and will bring the nine-person staff of Instagram to the social network.

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom echoed said:

Instagram launched its iOS app in October 2010, and came to Android for the first time last week.
This is the first time Facebook has acquired a company or product with so many users.

How Pulp Fiction Should Have Ended. Whether it’s blueberry pancakes or a Royale with cheese, this is a very funny ending. The animation shows the scene of Wallace’s wife and the needle, the tradition of the gold watch, the Bonnie situation, and the robbers Pumpkin with Honey Bunny being in the same restaurant as Superman and Batman

The first official trailer is here for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows adaptation. Johnny Depp plays the vampire Barnabas and stars opposite Michelle Pfeifer, Eva Green, Helena Bonham Carter, and Chloe Moretz.

The trailer has tons of 70’s schtick and is more of a comedy than I expected. I am not sure what I was expecting, but this is not really it. It could be one of Burton’s oddest films to date.

After months upon months of box office speculation, John Carter finally opened and as expected was a huge disappointment. The mega-budget sci-fi epic wasn’t even able to unseat The Lorax, which held first place for the second-straight weekend.
